SEPTEMBER 2024
Editor’s Note Greetings! As editor, I am pleased to present to you the 2024 Rural Leader Forty under Forty Honorees. The judges, once more, had the difficult task to select forty outstanding leaders from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The leaders represent the rich talent, skill, and vast knowledge that can be found in small town America. Again, I was extremely impressed with the level of expertise and accomplishment found among this year's honorees. Their exemplary service to the people in small communities is a testament to their dedication. Without such leaders, who pour daily back into the essence of communities abroad, Small Town America would undoubtedly cease to thrive. Therefore, I continue to be committed to acknowledging the efforts and contributions of leaders in small rural communities. I understand all too well the significance of their efforts. My hope is that the Forty under 40 Honorees encourage young leaders in the knowledge that what they do each day matters. As always, I hope you enjoy this issue and continue to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Thanks again for your continual support! Sincerely,
Kuanita E. Murphy, PhD Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

Chasity Hulin-Searcy Age 35
Hometown: Buena Vista, GA
“Believe you can, and you are halfway there” has been a saying that has stuck with her since she was a young girl. Born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1989, Chasity is a 35-year-old poster child for the well-known quote, “If I can do it, so can you.” She is the second child of Louisiana native parents, who then relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia due to the military. Her parents divorced when she five years old, and she spent the rest of her childhood in the Columbus, Georgia area and other smaller towns outside of Columbus. At age 10, she spent a summer in Louisiana with one of her aunts when she discovered what she dreamt of becoming when she grew older. Her aunt was a nurse and cared for her that summer after she had a complicated skin flare-up related to her skin condition. She realized during that time with her aunt that she too, wanted to help heal people the same way. As a teen, Chasity spent her high school years as a student at Marion County High School in Buena Vista, GA. It was the first school system that she spent the longest time attending. She was active in sports, student leadership committees, and aspired to graduate and to become a nurse. In 2007, she graduated with honors from Marion County High School. That same year, she became a mother to her first child. Although statistics were against her as a young mother, her vision to become a nurse remained. She raised her child, enrolled in college, worked, and eventually was accepted after multiple rejections into an LPN nursing program in Americus, GA. Her dream to become a nurse was finally settling in. In 2010, after starting her nursing program, she realized she was expecting her second child. Things became a little tougher, but she
Profession: Healthcare
pushed through. She became a nurse in 2012 and was finally able to start her career in nursing after the obstacles she faced. She landed her first job in an ER that same year and became a sponge in the healthcare industry since then. In 2016, she received her associates degree in nursing from Darton State College (GA) and became an RN where she worked in several ERs including, Martin Army Community Hospital, Piedmont Newnan Hospital, and Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Furthering her education was still particularly important to her. She received her bachelor's degree in 2019 from South University. The pandemic hit shortly after, and she began to ask herself, what now? She decided to go back to school to further her nursing degree once again. She received her master’s degree in nursing in 2022 from Albany State University (GA). That year, she began working as a family nurse practitioner in an urgent care in Columbus, GA. She enjoys the fast-paced environment of urgent care where her background in ER nursing shines. Of course, she still desired to help people maintain their health and wellness goals outside of the clinical settings. In October 2023, she opened her own medical spa offering services such as IV hydration, vitamin therapy, and medical weight loss. Her business is also located in Columbus, and she spends most of her off days treating her clients there. Although remarkably busy with two active teenagers, a husband, her job, a business, and a passion for DIY home renovations, she still finds time to accomplish each goal she sets her mind to. If she can do it, anyone can! —
