The Next Big Star! Interview by Celina Vongprachanh
T
oday’s interview was with this years MTV winner for “Best Movie Fight,” Dylan O’Brien. We sat down with him asking about the latest updates and celebrity gossip. Dylan began his career with roles in High Road, directed by Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder Matt Walsh, and in the romantic dramedy The First Time, centered on the first weekend of a fledgling romance between two high school kids. Celina Vongprachanh: “Dylan you are a rising star this year. How are dealing with all the attention and do you feel any different than before you were starred in the Maze Runner?”
Maze Runner. I love filming with the cast and we have such a great time. Like we just had a dance party last week on our break. With the plot itself, we strayed a little from the book, so I hope the fans are cool with that because we still have plenty of stuff from the book in there. I feel like we accom-

We could just hang out and shoot the scene. When we were called for the parts of Scott and Stiles we were so hype and that first day on set, is a day I will never forget. WHAT FILMS DO YOU THINK DYLAN BE CASTED IN NEXT?
DOB: “I was in high school, I think. It’s the first time that you start thinking of one of your girl friends as more than just a friend and you just think about her all the time and are obsessed with her and think she’s really pretty and just want to hang out with her always. And then you start trying to process those feelings.” CV: “What kind of girls are you looking for? Anyone special these days?”

DOB: “I have a personality type, but it's not like I'm like, 'Oh yeah, short and brunette. That's what I like. All the time.' When a girl has a sense of humor, there's nothing more attractive. I just really like fun, cool, interesting, quirky girls. But, I am sorry to all the girls that are reading this, I am actually taken. I’m with an

The Women In Black: Review
By: Riley Monshayee
Will The Face Determine Your Fate? The Women in Black is about a young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. Movie Rating = PG-13 Main Actors/Actresses = Daniel Radcliffe and Ciarán Hinds
Thinking About Who To Take? Directed towards: Teens You could take a date, only if its a couple dates into your relationship, because a good scary can allow your date to hold you in their arms and to just snuggle up wrapped in a blanket. OR You could take a couple friends because it a good movie to get a few jumps of adrenaline and freak you friends out.
Here Are Some Inputs From Your Generation:
Go see The Woman in black 2: Angel of Death
“Yes, The Woman in Black is a welcome addition to the old canon; renouncing innovation, embracing anachronism, it's almost ‘The Artist’ of ghost movies. To anyone who fancies throwback stories of the supernatural, there's nothing so appealing as a well-preserved corpse,” (From, Time Richard Corliss). “No, The Woman in Black was not as scary. Scene after endless scene of Radcliffe roaming the hallways of a spooky gothic house seeking the source of creepy noises and phantasmal movements is not compelling enough for a two-hour film,” (From, Whatithink123). Final Review: In my opinion, The Woman in Black is an ok movie. Although it gives you jumps from time to time, many scenes drag on. The actors are very impressive, but by the end of movie you're going to wish that the movie “SHE MORNS AND SEEKS kept going to see how the other characters deal with THE INNOCENCE IN CHILthe shocking ending. No spoiler alerts here. ◼

The Twilight Saga: Review
By: Riley Monshayee
Sink Your Teeth Into This. The Twilight Saga is a series of vampire novels by Stephanie Meyer. It follows the life of Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to Forks, Washington, and finds her life radically changed when she falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. Movie Rating = PG-13 Main Actors/Actresses = Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner
Thinking About Who To Take? Directed towards: Teens and Young Adults You could take all your girlfriends because why not have a girls night out and watch a chick flick. It’s a great romance series to just gawk over the shirtless and totally built stars, Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, and their other stars. OR You could take a date, but maybe only for Twilight or Eclipse, because, for the girls, you can feel a romantic sense that can help jump up your date to wrap their arm around your shoulder or maybe grab your hand. For the guys, it might seem like a chick flick but you’ll be surprised. There’s actually a good amount of action in the movie and who doesn’t like a good scare.
Here Are Some Inputs From Your Generation: “Yes, I loved the movie! I want to watch it again! The movie stayed true to the book in as many ways possible, and got all the important events across superbly. So long as there are people, there will be love stories -I hope they all feel as lush and lively as this one made me feel,” (From, Twilightfan1021). “No, now this franchise just got really silly, the first film was actually ok in a kiddie kind of way but this sequel is just very frustrating. There are some parts that just drag on over and over again. The net result is boredom unless you're already heavily invested in this series and bringing your own enthusiasm to the table,” (BBAOK130). Final Review: In my opinion, Twilight Saga is an amazing series. If you read the books then there are no surprises that the movie definitely portrays how Bella feels as she goes through these turn of events. The movie is totally romantic and on a high note, it appeals to most teenage age girls (but who can deny that the shirtless characters are the reason why). If you looking for an action pack and romantic tension, then you should definitely go see these movies. ◼

The Top 5 Worst Movies Of This Century By: Celina Vongprachanh
5
The Vow
The Vow is the fifth worst movie because although it has romantic relations with the characters, it lacks that spark that makes the movie worth wild to want to watch over and over again. By the end, our researchers felt unsatisfied with the fact that -spoiler Director: Michael Sucsy alert- Paige doesn’t regain her (2012) memory of Leo. They are left to start over their lives together after a period years. When they had everything they were looking for before the accident. This frustrating result makes the anger pop out in your veins.
3
The Ring
Director: Gore Verbinski (2002)
The Ring is the third worst movie because it’s laughable. The directors try to make a horror movie when in reality it’s so laughable when a little girl comes out of a TV. Wouldn’t the characters have any sense to kick the little girl out of the house. And a phone call telling you that you’re going to die. Like really?! Call the police! Why are you going to wait till a little girl comes and murders you. Get some protection. This movie is just totally un realistic.
1
4
Scary Movies
Scary Movies is the fourth worst movie because it’s just so stupid. The plots don’t make any sense, which is why I believe that people are amused by the comedy inflicted by the main character’s (Cindy’s) stupidity. There are about 5 movies that were created in this serious, but it’s basically just parodies of movies that were horror Director: Keenen Ivory films. In other words the Scary Wayans (2000) Movies are just remakes of horror films that are turned into a comedy for no reason.
2
The Neighbors is the second worst movie because I don’t think any parent would want to stay next to a frat house. It’s funny but some parts of the movie you just can’t handle. At some parts it’s just too inappropriate, like I saw a 6 year old sitting with her parents and friends watching that movie. It is so not age appropriate. In the end, you won’t want to watch it a second Director: Nicholas Stoller (2014) time unless you’re a teenager or adult with a sick twisted comedic person.
The Neighbors
Epic Movie is the number one, worst movie because it’s a combination of Scary movies and the Neighbors. In a twisted way it is both inappropriate and there was just no point of the movie. I admit some parts were funny at first, but after awhile they just kept making references and jokes that got old really fast. I wanted to turn off the movie about an hour into the film. I don’t even know why someone would make a movie that weird and irrelevant. ◼

The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing SpiderMan is the fifth best because it had a wellchosen cast and sure
handed direction allowing thrill and a completely different approach to the making of the film, despite referring to the same plot conveyed from 2002's Spider-Man version. In the heat of the Director: Marc Webb (2012) moment Garfield and Webb make it feel convincingly fresh and exciting. It honestly takes about 30 minutes for the first time that you get to see spider-man to fall in love with the movie. But once the action starts, there is a lot of it. This is all in all, a great change in the twist in details that I think is better than the original.
3
Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger is the third best because who doesn’t love Chris Evans? This actor captures the perfection on what human kind should be like. Captain America is a symbol of hope for others where he challenges the Nazis, when this movie takes place during World War 2. The love Director: Joe Johnston in this movie that is shared by love (2011) and friendship crumbles with a sudden twist in the end, where you can watch in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and so on.

4
Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows PT. 2 is the fourth best because it’s the last showdown between Harry and Voldemort. This movie is just amazing with the graphics and all the work that it took to build to set is phenomenal! The movie is so action packed and it has the viewers gasping, leaning, and even jumping on the edge of their seats. Even the British
Director: David Yates (2011)
2
Hunger Games: Mockingjay PT. 1
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay PT.1 (dystopian) is the second best because it sticks to the book’s main concept with every little detail. It tells of a girl beginning an uprising by becoming a hero and inspiration to all district. Seeing her take down Director: Francis the president is one battle no one will Lawrence (2014) ever forget. From the start of the star crossed lovers, Katniss and Peeta work together with their friends to restore a balanced society.
The Maze Runner (Post-apocalyptic dystopian) is the number one, best movie this year because of its exciting plot twist at the end that leads the viewers into the rest of the series. It gets you hooked right from the beginning and the suspense doesn’t let you go. This movie never gets old, no matter how many Director: Wes Ball (2014) times someone will watch it. ◼

A movie director is a storyteller who needs a lot of people, equipment, creativity and planning to bring his/her story to a movie audience. In the process, the director has to hold on to the vision while dealing with temperamental artists, union contract requirements, uncooperative weather, studio time, budget demands and a handful of other uncontrollable uncertainties. The process of becoming a director starts years earlier with getting an education, building a portfolio and gaining experience in directing films and other aspects of movie production. Actor/ Actress The happiest actors are the working actors. And just because you might not be getting paid for your acting, doesn't mean that you can't be a working actor. Every experience is experience. So, spend less time seeking out an agent and more time seeking out acting opportunities yourself. From small plays to student films -- you'll be happily surprised how many seemingly insignificant opportunities are the ones that make your entire career. Attend a performing arts college and get a degree in drama. Manager/ Agent A talent agent acts as a middleman between talented creative types and those that are looking to hire them. Agents start building their network before they start their careers, and they keep adding contacts throughout their careers. If you’re looking to start a talent agent career, you will most likely find yourself in Hollywood, New York City, and Nash-
13
ville. Aspiring talent agents should earn a bachelor’s degrees in areas like public relations, marketing, or human resources and minors in areas like music business or film production. An internship is common step that most individuals must take when pursuing talent agent careers. Many areas require talent agents to be licensed that you pursue will usually be determined by what types of artists you plan to represent. Backstage Crew Backstage crew need to be able to unload scenery, maintain and repair the flying equipment and scenery. They may need to raise and lower suspended scenery during a performance, operating the mechanical components of the stage. In smaller theatres where the flying systems are not mechanized, there can be a lot of physical labor involved. It is possible to learn a technical specialism in a non-theatre setting, and then move into the industry. In all cases, building experience of making things, setting up theatre sets, and operating machinery is important. A broad knowledge of how theatre works is also useful. Stylist/ Designer Stylists need to have an artistic eye, be organized and be able to work under pressure. Stylists work with models, actors and other celebrities as well as with make-up artists, photographers and movie directors. As a stylist, you may create styles for TV commercials, print advertisements, magazines, movies, music videos or red carpet events. A stylist needs to go through 3 steps, education, experience, and build a portfolio.
Screenwriters Too many newbie writers think that screenwriting is just something they can jump into. Now, I’ll admit that there are those exceptionally few writers who just seem to understand the rhythm of a movie script and have that innate gift of dialogue from the get go. But for the most part, all new writers need to have a basic understanding of what it is they’re trying to write. Editors Movie editors have to know the art, the business and the technology of filmmaking. One way to get the knowledge you’ll need is to attend a two or four year college that offers programs focused on the filmmaking industry. If you’re eager to become a film editor, you need to learn about the industry and the technology used in film editing. Beyond that, you’ll need to gain experience working in the movie industry. And if you want to become an established feature film editor, you’ll need to start in a more modest film-editing job and work your way up. If you turn out to be really passionate or motivated to work on editing, then ask your counselor about if your schools offer the chance to work on student projects and job assistance through placement and internship programs. ◼
