Sticky rolls for Tuta absoluta

The Tutaroll is an innovative product from Russell IPM for the management of Tuta absoluta. It is a clear film coated with non-drying glue and treated with slow release Tuta absoluta pheromone formulation. It is one cost effective pre-baited ready to use sticky roll. The Tutaroll ensures steady release of attractant for longer period. Our extensive field studies also showed application of Tutaroll captures Tuta absoluta successfully without affecting the beneficial’s Nesidiocoris tenuis or Trichogramma achaeae. It is compatible with all sorts of biological control systems in place for the management of Tuta absoluta.


Tutaroll is a clear film coated with nondrying glue and treated with slow release Tuta absoluta pheromone formulation lure. It is compatible with all sorts of biological control systems in place for the management of Tuta absoluta. Evaluation trial of Tutaroll in green houses shows it to be very effective in capturing Tuta absoluta with an insignificant accidental capture of Beneficial’s Nesidiocoris tenuis and Trichogramma achaeae.

Not attractive to Trichogramma achaeae

Highly attractive to Tuta absoluta

Not attractive to Nesidiocoris tenuis

A further study was conducted to compare the capture of Tuta absoluta and Nesidiocoris tenuis and found consistent result for a longer period. The results after application of 24 hours showed at lower height catches of Tuta absoluta was significantly higher (675 moths / 24hr) than that of upper height. At the same time beneficial insect Nesidiocoris tenuis capture in lower height 60-120cm was zero. However, at 190cm only 3 Nesidiocoris tenuis were captured. 10 days after the application, a similar trend was followed at a lower height and 60cm distance, Tutaroll captured 4988 Tuta absoluta moth and only one Nesidiocoris tenuis. Results 24 hours after the application of Tuta Roll

Tutaroll was also tested in the presence of Trichogramma achaeae. Again it proved

a consistent higher number of Tuta absoluta captured when the trap was placed

at a lower height. At all heights the capture of Trichogramma achaeae was zero,

therefore Tutaroll does not affect the activity of Trichogramma achaeae at all.

Considering all of the studies it is evident that Tutaroll clear is safe with a high compatibility with other biological control systems. As it is clear in colour it is

not affecting the natural enemies Nesidiocoris tenuis or Trichogramma achaeae.

Russell IPM also offer its customer a similar kind of Tuta absoluta pheromone mediated yellow sticky rolls for use in green houses where beneficial insects are not in use as a biological control agents. The yellow colour of the sticky rolls adds an extra advantage of capturing whitefly and aphids.
