MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA AUGUST 13-15
Fellow Enthusiasts,
Here we go again…the bags are packed, the tickets booked, hotel reservations made, and the Monterey Peninsula is about to become its annual playground for car enthusiasts from around the world. Russo and Steele is proud to once again be a part of the festivities, and in our 9th year, we couldn’t have a better line up of European Sport, American Muscle, Hot Rods and Custom automobiles. We will kick off the weekend on Thursday night, August 13th by hosting our Fourth Annual Charity Preview Reception. This “Can’t Miss” social event is the ideal chance to get a first look at the cars, catch-up with old friends, and start the weekend off right at the premiere event in town. Proceeds from this year’s event will once again benefit HeRO; The Hunger Relief Organization and we look forward to seeing you there! Continuing with our signature “Auction in the Round” format, Friday and Saturday night, the Marriott has evolved into the most exciting, emotional and passionate epicenter of the weekend! Additionally, one needs to experience firsthand the “Rolling Preview” that takes place in the streets of Downtown Monterey. In a fit of nostalgia, attendees can watch as the 150 of the finest automobiles on the peninsula parade down Calle Principal in their “natural environment” before roaring up the street and
entering the auction. This visceral experience is one not to be missed! Inside the auction, attendees are up close and personal with the cars, and are encouraged to get a better look on the block. The critics agree, there simply isn’t a better auction experience to be had! Russo and Steele is once again proud to have teamed up with Kevin Martin and “Pieces of the Past” to bring the very best of celebrity memorabilia and collectables! Don’t miss the opportunity to own rare certified documents, autographed photos, and other one of a kind memorabilia. This auction starts at 5:00 on both Friday and Saturday evening, so come early and enjoy! Russo and Steele is honored to have put its mark on the collector car landscape, and as we continue on our journey towards a decade in the hobby, we are truly grateful to all of our clients who have helped us get to this point. We have enjoyed the relationships and camaraderie that has grown around our Monterey event, and we are looking forward to another record setting year! We’ll see you in Monterey! 1960 FERRARI 250 GT PINNIN FARINA SERIES II CABRIOLET Designer Felice Mario Boano built the first Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet for the 1956 Geneva Motor Show. A year later, a Pininfarina-designed cabriolet appeared at Geneva, again based on the 250 GT platform. This famous car became the property of Ferrari racing driver Peter Collins and was the first of four Pininfarina Cabriolet prototypes. Feeling the pressure from Jaguar and others on the racing circuit, Collins would fit Dunlop disc brakes to this car, making it the first Ferrari to be so-equipped. The second prototype, dubbed the ‘Spyder Competitzione’ by Pininfarina, had a cutdown windscreen and a faired-in headrest like the Scaglietti-built racing cars, the third was built for the 1957 Paris Salon and the fourth sold to the Aga Khan. Between July 1957 and August 1959, 36 more Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolets were produced. These cars are henceforth known as Series I. The result of successes with the Series I in Coupe and Cabriolet form was a Series II, launched at the Paris Salon of 1959. By this time, the competition-based Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder was also in production and as it looked similar to the Series I Cabriolet, Ferrari wanted significant changes so that the Series II could be easily differentiated from the California Spyder. The car also had the latest Colombo 128F V-12 engine with outside plugs, coil valve-springs and 12port cylinder heads that as a unit produced 240 horsepower. Other performance attributes were improved as well, since the Series II was also equipped with disc brakes and a new four-speed gearbox with overdrive. Production started in late 1959 and lasted until 1962, during this time the Series II Cabriolet was the most expensive car in the 250 GT range. Delivered when new to Fiocchi, Italy in Grigio conchiglia (Shell Gray) over red leather, the 1960 Ferrari 250GT Series II Cabriolet on offer here was believed to have been imported by Vilem B. Haan when new and kept as his personal car for some years following. Haan was one of the pioneers of the American sports car aftermarket and known to readers of period automotive magazines for his catchy advertising and unique offerings. The car was later restored by renowned craftsman Steve Tillack of Redondo Beach, CA and is now finished in a deep maroon over tan hides. With some years now on the restoration, the quality and comprehensiveness of the work performed speaks for itself as the car remains in show-quality condition throughout. Most recently on display just this past fall at the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance. From the exquisitely chromed bumpers and Borranis on the outside to the lustrous wood instrument panel and steering wheel inside, the richness of its appearance and tactile elements are second-to-none. Under the hood, the Colombo V-12 is just as thoroughly restored and well-detailed as the exterior cosmetics. All of this was recently attended to by the car’s current vendor, a meticulous top-flight collector, to ensure that the new owner will be able to enjoy the pleasure of open-top motoring in a front-engined Ferrari V12. To that end, a fastidious Pre-Purchase Inspection has been performed by world renowned Motion Products. In addition to ensuring peak performance, Motion Products also prepared this outstanding Ferrari prior to presentation at the Monterey Auction.

1974-75 GREENWOOD CHEVROLET CORVETTE IMSA ROAD-RACING GT John Greenwood’s foray into road racing followed a successful career street-racing Impalas and Corvettes on the legendary Woodward Avenue near Detroit. After he found his initial competition successes at the club level at Detroit-area Waterford Hills Raceway, Greenwood turned to road racing in the late 1960s then took his Corvette racing operation nationwide, winning two consecutive Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) A/Production National Championships in 1970-71. A sponsorship deal with B.F. Goodrich in 1972 resulted in his first highly-modified Corvette racers called the ‘SwingArm Cars’ by Greenwood that were run in IMSA’s Camel GT Challenge and subsequently took home 3 wins in the SCCA’s Trans-Am Series in 1972 and 1973, all wearing Greenwood’s trademark ZL1 flares over their shaved BFG Radial T/As. There are not many vehicles of any stripe today – let alone from the 1970s - that could do over 220 miles an hour on the back stretch at Daytona and then drift through the high-banked turns like a World of Outlaws car all fully while under control. The two cars known as the “Spirit of Sebring” built by John Greenwood in the mid-’70s represented a high water mark in the design and construction of road-racing Corvettes. These were the last cars that the legendary designer built using the production C3 Corvette frame as all his later cars featured a full-tube-chassis. During the early spring of 1975, the #75 “Spirit of Sebring” Corvette was in action in an IMSA Camel GT Challenge race at Laguna Seca. As Greenwood recalls, that race was as much a research-anddevelopment session as it was equally a competition against the factory Porsches and BMWs in the field. “We didn’t do well there,” he recalled. “There was a learning curve with the car.” However, once he mastered the idiosyncrasies of that challenging curve, Greenwood wound up with a car that ran in the front of the pack in both IMSA Camel GT and Trans-Am and scored three wins in the latter category that led to winning that series’ 1975 championship. The opportunity to see, let alone acquire, such a vital part of American racing history does not come around but so often. More significant pieces of Corvette racing history – especially those attached to names such as John Greenwood – infrequently change hands in the public eye. This car was lost to the public for many years until having been acquired by Lance Smith, the expert on the Greenwood Corvette, who brought it back to its former glory. Introduced to competition at IMSA’s Road Atlanta race in 1974, the car on offer here, then known as ‘The Batmobile’, was co-driven by John Greenwood and Mike Brockman at that event. It left the paddock to first qualify in second place and then go on to lead the opening laps of the race. Milt Mither drove it to victory at Talladega, a race of 200 miles over 50 laps of that circuit. By December of that year, the car was both fast and reliable enough to win the 66-lap, 250 mile IMSA Finale race at Daytona, averaging nearly 116mph qualifying on pole, finishing off even its nearest rivals by a clear lap. In 1975, Greenwood’s thunderous Corvette finished 4th in the first Road Atlanta IMSA round and again won the Daytona Finale race, again starting from pole at record speed and setting the fastest race lap – but this time beating Brian Redman’s BMW CSL by almost 40 seconds overall to win at a record 116.775mph for the 65 lap race.

1939 ALVIS SPEED 25 TOURER CROSS & ELLIS COACHWORK Alvis built its last automobile in 1967, a generation ago. Never a volume manufacturer, Alvis was one of the most innovative and successful British marques, distinguished by racing success, a well-earned reputation for reliability and steady management that, after a financial reorganization in the mid-twenties, turned yearly profits through the depths of the Great Depression. Early record-setting success at Brooklands was followed by the innovative development of front-wheel drive cars with de Dion front suspension, the first British automobile with fully independent suspension and the first fully-synchronized four-speed gearbox offered on a production British car.
4, 1938. Fitted with a Luvax one-shot chassis oiling system, Luvax A.L.C. adjustable shock absorbers, a special-order fold-flat windscreen, wind tone horns, cigar lighter, chassis-mounted scissors jacks, a two-inch longer steering column, dual side-mounted spares and quick release radiator cap, it was an individual expression of bespoke motoring style and performance. Under the hood, its original 106hp 3571 cc overhead valve six-cylinder engine and four-speed manual transmission propel it down the road, while independent front suspension with transverse leaf spring and a live axle rear-end with leaf springs and four-wheel mechanical drum brakes keep it under control.
Introduced in August 1936, the Speed 25’s engine was increased to 3.6 liters displacement from the Speed 20’s 2.8 liters. With predictable handling, a stylishly low chassis that brought the best possible work from Alvis’s favored coachbuilders and remarkable power that propelled even the heaviest bodies to nearly 100mph, the Speed 25 is regarded as Alvis’s most important and sporting machine. A measure of enthusiasts’ regard for the Speed 25 is that of 391 built some 207 are known to survive today, a remarkable 53% survival rate. Rightfully regarded as a worthy competitor for the 3-Liter and 4-Liter Bentleys of the day, the most sporting coachwork was the four seat tourer built by Cross & Ellis and of the 38 built, 34 are believed to exist. The Cross & Ellis coachwork is long but low and delicately proportioned, expressing the essence of British sports tourers of the thirties.
An outstanding touring car automobile, this Alvis drives well at speed and, with its Luvax shocks set to soft, it is comfortable to drive on longer trips. The six-cylinder engine and transmission perform like that of a modern vehicle and it will cruise effortlessly at 50-55 miles per hour. The previous owner, who had long desired a Cross & Ellis Tourer, shipped this car to England for an anniversary meeting of the Alvis Club and drove it throughout the countryside around the Oxford event. An AACA Junior winner at Hershey in 1992 following its restoration, the Speed 25 Cross & Ellis Tourer has been shown in the Concours d’Elegance at both Amelia Island in 2001 and Pebble Beach in 2002, honors that are rarely conferred upon classics with nearly ten year old restorations. It is ample evidence both of the quality of its restoration and the care and attention it has subsequently received. It has since been acquired by the present owner, a dedicated collector in his own right who has maintained this outstanding car in his noted collection.
This particular 1939 Alvis Speed 25 Tourer by Cross & Ellis is the nextto-last of the 38 examples built and was shipped to Canada on August

1967 FERRARI 275 GTB/4 COUPE In the late 1990s Speedvision featured a popular automobile restoration series called “Dream Car Garage”. Essentially the program focused the spotlight on a total restoration of a feature car. All of the Dream Car Garage Speedvision program segments which detail this car’s restoration will accompany the sale of the car to its new owner.
20 years and putting some 15,000 further kilometers on the clock. Chris Cox of Prova International became the next owner prior to its ground-up restoration by Legendary Motorcars of Milton, Ontario, Canada as part of the Dream Car Garage series. After the restoration, it was purchased by the aforementioned Skip Barber.
As the television film footage shows, # 10045 was at that time a red/black original, matching numbers, low mileage California car – “almost too nice to restore”, according to Peter Klutt, the principal of Legendary Motorcars, the restoration firm contracted for the rebuild and film production. Take the body, for instance. A strip to bare metal revealed a perfect, never-rusted or accident-damaged shell which had only had one re-paint from the original Factory silver to red, sometime in the late 1980s.
While most of the cars in the Barber Collection can be shown on a national level, all of them are of a “turn-key” driver quality as well. As an ex-racing driver of note, Barber’s performance car conduct centers upon three criteria – engine performance and in particular, throttle response, handling and for a sports car, this means cornering, and last but not least, braking ability. While the car’s fresh restoration could not be faulted in terms of its aesthetics and fit and finishes, Skip Barber felt that a bit of additional mechanical work would make it a perfect driver.
Prior to this, the Marcel Massini database shows that our four-cam was delivered new to Ferrari dealers Martinelli & Sonico of Lugano, Switzerland in 1967. Shortly after that, it was exported from Switzerland to the U.S.A. with the first American owner listed as L.D. Alderman of Maryland. In 1973 Francois Sicard carried out major work for an unknown owner. In January, 1973 it was bank-owned prior to going to a Robert Neudeck of New York, NY with the odometer showing 18,000 kilometers. Neudeck apparently liked this four-cam, owning it for over
The engine, for example, had been disassembled and inspected but not deemed ready for a full rebuild during the previous restoration. After Barber purchased the car a total engine-out, rebuild by Bill Pollard’s SportAuto was performed even though set of modern valve guide seals would have sufficed. It may seem like overkill but hey, that’s what car guys do! Major suspension work by AutoSport in Sharon, CT in the areas of spring rates, shock settings, sway bar adjustments and wheel alignment took care of Skip Barber’s handling concerns.

1938 DERBY BENTLEY 4 1/4 COACHWORK BY VAN DEN PLAS Shortly after the armistice that followed the Great War in 1919, W.O. Bentley, together with a group that included Frank Burgess (formerly of Humber) and Harry Varley (formerly of Vauxhall), set about designing a high quality sporting sport-touring automobile for production under the name Bentley. The first Bentley Motors, Ltd. was founded in 1919, and between that time and 1931, W.O. created the motorcars which became a legend on the racing circuits of Europe as well as among the sporting set at home. It wasn’t until 1928 that Woolf Barnato became a fully-fledged part of the group of rich amateur drivers known as the Bentley Boys that included many of the prestigious customers of the small marque at home and abroad. Bentley racing proved highly successful in the late 1920’s including victories at Brooklands and in 1929 the Team’s best ever result were at LeMans, with Bentleys placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th. In 1931 Bentley Motors and the consultancy of W.O. Bentley were acquired by RollsRoyce and thereafter the company focused mainly on passenger car production. One of the first of the Bentley vehicles produced after this marriage was the 1933 3-1/2 Liter, a vehicle similar in many ways to the Rolls-Royce 20/25. The significance of the Bentley nameplate was not lost on Rolls-Royce as their new acquisition’s automobiles continued to be identified by the public as having a racing pedigree. The Bentley featured 2 SU carburetors and a naturally aspirated straight-six engine producing 125 horsepower. It could achieve sixty mph in around fourteen seconds with the top speed just below 100 mph. With a four year production run from 1936 through 1939 and during which time 1,241 examples were produced, this was the greatest number of vehicles produced under the Bentley make of the same essential designation. All Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars of this period were fitted with custom coachwork from the premier British and European body builders ranging from England’s H.J. Mulliner, Park Ward and Vanden Plas to Berlin’s rakish Bohman & Schwartz. The subject vehicle on offer here is no exception; fitted with a one-off six-place drophead coupé body by Vanden Plas, it was built to the specific requirements of its original owner, Captain Douglas Krauss of Scotland. B84LS was originally registered as ELB3 in May of 1938 and was retained by Capt. Krauss for only one year before being sold to Sir Allan Lane of Penguin Books in London. Tragically, Lane died during the Second World War and the car passed to his 5’ foot tall sister, who found the car positively too huge for her small frame following her move to Sydney, Australia in the late 1940s. B84LS then changed hands to one Kenneth Hoskins of Moss Vale, New South Wales, who also performed the car’s first largely mechanical restoration that included some tasteful and subtle upgrades such as full-flow oil filtration and power-assisted steering from then-current Rolls-Royce production models. Hoskins retained ownership of the car until 1965, when it passed into the hands of the current owner. After some years of appreciative ownership, the current owner began a no-expense-spared comprehensive restoration of the car to its current condition, inside, out and underneath. Shown since at many major Concours d’Elegances around the country, B84LS has received an initial invitation to the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as Bentley is again this year’s featured marque.

1965 SHELBY GT 350 R-MODEL In January of 1965, the first batch of 1965 Shelby GT350 models was completed to comply with homologation requirements. One of these cars, a Wimbledon White Mustang with the Ford VlN 5RO9K165905, was assigned the Shelby VIN SFM5021 (Shelby American would not employ an ‘S’ to designate street models until car #35). This car, upon its completion, was not shipped to a Shelby dealer for retail sale; instead, it was consigned on February 3rd, 1965 to Shelby American General Manager Ray Geddes and shipped to the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, where it was likely used as a public relations and demonstrator car by Ford. It was then returned to Shelby American and on August 10, 1965, it was invoiced to the Carroll Shelby School of High-Performance Driving. The car was then used as a school car and during this time it was gradually converted to competition specifications, documented by pictures in two magazine articles written about Shelby’s driving school; both the July 1966 issue of Popular Science and Car & Driver for April, 1967 show the car in action. Back at Shelby during the end of June, 1965, work was begun on the last batch of 15 GT350 competition-only models. A work order was opened on June 25, 1965 which indicates that the Shelby VIN SFM 5R537 was to be assigned to the Mustang carrying the Ford VIN 5R09K217475. According to Shelby race shop mechanics, sometime around Christmas of 1965, this car was chosen to be the prototype for the 1967 big-block GT500. Sometime near the end of 1967, as Shelby American was losing its lease on its airport facility, this car was sold (less the 427ci engine and transmission) to one of the mechanics who had modified it into the prototype configuration. Shelby-American and California DMV documents for this transaction described the car only by its Ford VIN, 5R09K217475.
14
At about the same time in late 1967, both Hi-Performance Motors and the Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving were being wrapped up. In that Shelby VIN SFM5021 had been converted to competition specifications while at Shelby’s driving school, someone within the Shelby organization made the decision to re-identify SFM5021 as SFM 5R537. The car was then sold as a competition model to Richard Rice, who proceeded to race the car in SCCA events in California. When the engine was blown the following year, Rice parked the car in a garage in Fresno, California where it sat until it was located by Dan Hodges and Lance Coren in 1988. On page 157 of the Shelby American World Registry, SFM 5R537 is listed as being ‘a beautifully-restored correct vehicle with only test miles since completion’. Strictly correct with a few more miles since that time, 5R537 remains as such on offer here. Restored to the livery it wore during its days at Shelby’s driving school, it still also wears the correct date stampings on the floor, doors and fenders from when the original Mustang left the factory at Dearborn in late 1964. These stampings confirm that unlike most Mustangs, this car truly retains all of its original sheetmetal. Historically, it is without peer; first a Ford promotional vehicle, then one of Shelby’s driving school cars, then a successful SCCA racer. Finally, since it carries the number of the last ‘R’ model GT-350 for 1965, this combined with its excellent preservation during its years in storage, bulletproof documentation and a top-tier sympathetic restoration make this nothing short of a blue-chip collectible Shelby Mustang.

1970 LAMBORGHINI MIURA P400 S Ferruccio Lamborghini entered the automobile business in 1963. His previous efforts were in the tractor manufacturing business, modifying military surplus equipment for civilian use. The creative entrepreneur and car buff in his own right felt that he had to build a supercar that would top anything Ferrari or Maserati had to offer. He hired two young engineers, Gianpaolo Dallara and Paulo Stanzani to begin designing this new car. The Miura was first shown to the public at the November 1965 Turin Auto Show. At the time, it did not have a body. It was just a rolling-chassis. The design was mid-engined, a very revolutionary technique at the time. When Nuccio Bertone was chosen to carry out the body design, he gave the project to Marcello Gandini. In early 1966 the Bertone body and the chassis designed by Dallara and Stanzani were assembled into one unit. The world was given their first glimpse of the completed Miura at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, which began on March 10th. Not surprisingly, the revolutionary vehicle named for a breed of Spanish fighting bulls was instantly popular, with demand outstripping supply. Ferrucio Lamborghini
16
had originally planned the Miura to be a low production, halo car with production set to around 30 models, but the car’s lightweight frame, impressive list of specifications, all independent suspension, and midengine layout truly impressed all who had money for The Next Big Thing burning holes in their pockets in Lamborghini’s direction. In all, even though offered at a price of nearly $20,000, 108 units were constructed in the first year. The Miura’s appearance is indisputably stunning, with clamshell-style bonnets and a four liter V12 engine putting out 305 bhp. The Miura is also the first road-going automobile to use Campagnolo wheels with a central locking nut, just like a racecar. In 1968 the ‘S’, for ‘Spinto’ or ‘tuned’, was introduced at the Turin Auto Show, featuring an upgraded 370 horsepower engine thanks in part through the use of a new combustion chamber and larger intakes, upgraded brakes and numerous other enhancements; even air conditioning was available at extra cost. The “S” was an even faster car, sporting better performance and more luxurious amenities
throughout, and could sprint from zero-to-140 in less than 30 seconds. Offered for sale here, this 1970 Lamborghini Miura S has had but three owners from new and is one of just four ordered in Blu Spettrale Metalizzatto (Spectral Blue Metallic). Recently the recipient of an extensive, careful mechanical and cosmetic restoration, chassis #4629 left the Lamborghini Works on July 30th, 1970, making it an extremely late-production P400 S. As such, it features the same stronger S and SV chassis, SV rear wheels, steering wheel, gear shift knob and the vented disc brake package that the SV featured until the end of production. Considered the ultimate Miura S, this special car along with just 21 other examples features the very rare and desirable factory-fitted air conditioning option. The original engine, stamped with the number 30549, remains in the car. The car’s history is well-documented, it was the 553rd Miura built, one of just 140 P400S models in total and one of only a handful for Quester (Lamborghini of Austria) where it spent the best part of 10 years before going to Japan. The car remained there until 2007 when it first landed on US shores. According to the Lamborghini registry, only 140 P400 S Miuras were ever built.

#41-4011
1959 BMW 503 Following the end of the First World War, German production of aircraft engines and related parts seen as means to start another war ceased by the terms of the Armistice, formalized by the infamous Versailles Treaty. The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production by 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted, followed by their first automobiles in 1928. The early success of the outstanding BMW IIIa inline-six aviation engine, from 191718 in World War I, with the Luftstreitkräfte in a limited number of Fokker D.VII fighters, as well as a number of prototype “inline-six” fighters from various manufacturers, might have actually influenced the BMW logo’s design. The circular blue and white BMW logo or roundel is often alleged to portray the movement of an airplane propeller, an interpretation that BMW adopted for convenience in 1929, which was actually twelve years after the roundel was created. In fact, the emblem evolved from the circular Rapp Motorenwerke company logo, from which the BMW company grew; the blue and white colors of the flag of Bavaria had at least as much influence over the design. With the close of the Second World War spelling disaster for German industry, initial automotive offerings from the ruins of remaining production facilities were a good representation of the needs of the German people. The company’s initial non-microcar model, the 502 released in 1952, did not sell well, but allowed their design studios to slowly work towards more workable models. From this, the first postwar sporting car, the BMW 503 represented a similarly-modern styling exercise put into production. Based on the 502’s box- and tubular-section chassis, it also shared its 3.2-liter V-8 engine. The four-speed manual gearbox was mounted remotely on early models, as on the 502, but was placed in unit with the engine from late 1957. The original steering column shifter gave way to a floor-mounted mechanism on later examples. Offered in sleek coupe or cabriolet (convertible) body styles designed by Count Albrecht Goertz, both variants offered 2+2 accommodations. Like its sedan counterpart, the 1956-1959 BMW 503 nevertheless was an expensive indulgence but a great image builder for BMW, whose motorcycle and compact car production did not project as prestigious a stance to counteract the many financial problems suffered in preceding years. The last-year BMW 503 offered here was a European-market car from new. Finished in Brilliant Silver and fitted with rare Rudge wheels, a period Blaupunkt radio and a floor-shift fourspeed transmission, it appears to feature most of its original finish throughout with only minor touch-ups. As such, the body seems not to have ever been rusted or hit and doors and panels fit as they were assembled fifty years ago. Chrome and brightwork is also original and excellent throughout. Inside, the incredible original interior shows well with nicely-patinaed leather and what appears to be correct older replacement carpet that extends to the luggage compartment. Under the hood, the detailed engine compartment reflects the same careful preservation offered the rest of the car. Relatively unrestorable given the dearth of these cars produced when new, an excellent original such as this example is the hands-down choice for the discerning collector as fewer and fewer nicely-optioned examples of this caliber will continue to surface in the coming years.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO TRANS-AM RACE CAR This West Coast, Historic Trans-Am Group accepted 1969 Z/28 Camaro has a Historic Motor Sports Association log book along with its SVRA and original SCCA (#18-494) log books. This Camaro’s track record has proven it to be one of the fastest, most developed and sorted first generation historic racing Camaros anywhere in the country. Still retaining all of its TransAm specifications including the all-iron 302 cubic inch engine, Borg-Warner super T-10 transmission and J-56 brakes, a complete cosmetic restoration has recently been finished topped off with a set of Minilite wheels and a Mark Donohue seat. In the fall of 1971, Richie Allin race prepared this theft recovered 1969 Z-28 Camaro to replace Jerry Petersen’s 1967 Camaro he destroyed at driver’s school. This Camaro was built to specifications from Penske/Donahue specifications from the GM engineering drawings as well as those from Vince Piggins, who he had met the previous season. This car was painted bright blue metallic with unique red and white stripes crossing the roof and going down the rear quarter panels with ran large number 87s. This unique paint was found in photos in the early log book and was used to find its original identity through Road America records. Richie Allin inspected and verified the car at a historic race event Mid-Ohio in 1990 and has provided a wealth of original documents and photos. The Petersen Camaro ran in four races in the Trans-Am Series in 1972: • June 4th Mid-Ohio - finished 31st • June 18th Watkins Glen - finished 10th • July 4th Donnybrooke - finished 9th • July 15th Road America - finished 30th • Various SCCA Regional and National events between 1975 and 1982 • Various Historic Racing events 1988 through 2006 After crashing in the 1972 Road America Trans-Am, this Camaro sat in storage for a short while until Rod Harris of Fargo, ND. purchased and raced it in the SCCA during the 1975-1982 seasons. Greg Schneider of Grand Forks, ND. purchased it in 1988, prepared and introduced it to vintage racing. Current SVRA Competition Director Carl Jensen of Mazomie, WI. then bought it in 1989, restored the Camaro’s body to 1972 specifications to go along with its all original chassis, roll cage and tub and for the next sixteen seasons Carl competed in East Coast and Mid-West vintage venues. Most recently, in 2008, a complete cosmetic detailed restoration was completed by Lance Smith of Huntington Cars. Now with a period-correct fresh restoration on a very well sorted, well documented original car, this historic Camaro represents a great investment as well as an easy entry to the camaraderie and fun of the Trans-Am Race Group.

1964 SHELBY COBRA CSX2492 As with many British specialist manufacturers, AC Cars had been using the smooth, refined Bristol straight-6 engine in its small-volume production, including its AC Ace 2-seater roadster. The engine was a pre-World War II BMW design which was by the 1960s considered remarkably outdated. Bristol, a small independent automobile manufacturer in its own right, decided in 1961 to cease production of its engine and instead to use Chrysler small-block V-8 engines. Non-plussed by this idea, AC started using the 2.6 liter Ford Zephyr in all of its cars. An idea was borne out of this concept and in September of that year, former champion racing driver Carroll Shelby approached AC about building a car that would accept a V-8 configuration. Chevrolet was not interested in providing their new 327ci V-8 due to too much direct competition with the Corvette, however Ford wanted a car that could compete with the radical new Sting Ray from across town. As luck would have it, they happened to have a brand new thin wall small block engine which could be used in this endeavor. The name Cobra came to Shelby “in a dream”, he recounted, and a legend was born. Due to Carroll Shelby having destined all of the first production 427 Cobras for strictly competition use, all cars were delivered to the Shelby American facility in bare, unpainted aluminum from AC’s production facility in England. Although an impressive automobile for street or racetrack, the car was a financial failure and never sold well. To save cost, some Mark III Cobras were fitted with Ford’s 428ci engine which was a long stroke, smaller bore, lower cost engine, intended for road use rather than racing. It seems that a total of approximately 300 Mark III cars were sent to Shelby in the USA during the years 1965 and 1966, including the early competition version cars. Also unfortunately, the MK III missed homologation for the 1965 racing season and was never raced by the Shelby team, another chink in Shelby’s marketing strategy that would draw him closer to Ford in the very near future. However, these big-block cars were raced successfully by many privateers and would go on to win races all the way into the 1970s in IMSA and the SCCA championships. Most Cobras of this era are restored, perhaps even over-restored to well beyond their originally-delivered specifications. Many do not convey with their original powertrain configuration, yet this 289ci Cobra retains much of its originality throughout and thus is a blue-chip example in a field of very special performance automobiles. Invoiced to Shelby American, Inc. on the 25th of June, 1964, CSX 2492 sailed from London on the SS Loch Avon on the 10th of July and landed in Los Angeles less than a month later on the 7th of August. Its original invoice, made out to Gandols Ford Sales of Columbus, Ohio shows that the car was originally red over black and included the Group “A” accessories package comprising a tuned air cleaner, chrome aluminum valve covers, front grille guard, chrome wind wings, luggage rack, rear bumper guard and exhaust pipe tips, tinted sun visors, seat belts and whitewall tires for $280.50 over the price of the car. Additionally, chrome wire wheels were an additional $105 on top of this. Gandols sold the car to the late Russ Lamm of Columbus who, by the historical record kept the car until about 1969, when it passed into the hands of Marion ‘Chick’ Ford of neighboring New Albany, Ohio.

#41-4098
1961 PORSCHE 356 CARRERA 2/2000 GS CABRIOLET Designed by Erwin Komenda, the first Porsche 356 models were built in Gmünd, Austria until 1950, when Porsche returned to Stuttgart. The initial roadster version was joined by a coupe, while Swiss coachbuilder Beutler initially built some attractive convertibles. However, its future lay with competition; the little car’s lightness and agility led to its growing use in competition. Porsche grew rapidly with the success of the 356, which was produced in ever-greater numbers; its success enhanced by a continuous program of improvements. Then, as part of a deal with Studebaker in the USA, Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann of Porsche designed the Type 547 engine for racing use. This unit, with four overhead camshafts driven by gears and shafts, was a substantial change from the VW engine, but retained the flat four-cylinder, air-cooled concept. Although the 356 pushrod engine had been progressively developed, the revolutionary change to the car came when it was decided to fit a version with the much more powerful 547 four-cam engine. This inspired concept was underlined by christening their version of the 356 the Carrera – Spanish for ‘race’. The first four-cam street cars were special-order ‘Pre-A’s, of which relatively few were built. Starting with the new 356A, introduced in September of 1955 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, an official street version of the four-cam was offered, the Carrera 1500GS. This engine upgrade alone made the car over $1,000 more expensive than the next-best street model, but they did sell to privateer racers as well as a few brave souls who chose to employ the new car and its amazing engine on the racetrack. Eventually, Porsche acknowledged those who wanted the car primarily for purposes of competition and released both racing and street versions of the Carrera four-cam engine models. Having begun life as a stock 356B (T5) cabriolet, the
absolutely one-off example of a 1961 Carrera 2 Cabriolet on offer began life as the personal car for none other than ‘der Chef’, Ferdinand ‘Ferry’ Porsche. The boss took delivery in March of 1961 and enjoyed his brand new car for approximately five months when it was turned over to the factory repair department for servicing prior to taking a vacation with the car. During a road test after the maintenance service the vehicle was involved in a light accident damaging the front apron and fenders. Since the car could not be repaired in time for Prof. Porsche’s vacation, it was decided by the chassis department to modify the vehicle with a complete T6 front clip as various prototypes were being built prior to production commencing in September 1961. As evidence of this preproduction modification, no chassis number is stamped on the bulkhead, however, it should be noted that the chassis number appears in 3 other locations on the vehicle. Most importantly, it was further decided to remove its stock pushrod engine and in its place the very first type 587/1 4-cam engine was installed bearing serial number 97001. This engine would power the upcoming 356 Carrera 2 models and was a large part of the trend that created the market for those who wanted the best in performance from a small, light and low sports car. Sold to the United States in 1965 to a California resident and friend of Dr. Porsche’s, it was restored approximately 15 years ago, and still features many unusual one-off distinctions such as non-standard locations of many instrument panel switches and controls, an under dash ashtray on the passenger side, leather seats with houndstooth inserts, a special 7-relay fuse block and much more. The first featured articles were published in April 1995. Additionally, the car is featured prominently in the wellknown book published by Sports Car Market magazine Keith Martin on Collecting Porsche in the first few pages. A magnificent piece of history and truly one-off in every sense of the word, not only does this car’s celebrity provenance speak volumes about its history, but its prototype mechanical, bodywork and interior features, though odd, do nothing but confirm its top-tier collectible status.

1969 CHEVROLET COPO CAMARO While an exact number is not readily available, it is commonly believed that fewer than 1,000 COPO 9561 L72 Iron Block 427 cubic inch Camaros were produced by General Motors. Inspired by Don Yenko, this project was so secretive that most Chevrolet dealers had no idea such a car was ever built by the factory! In fact, COPO 9561 was not mentioned in any dealer literature or GM advertising back in the day, making it truly a covert Super Performance Program supported by GM and other members of the Hi-Performance elite to promote and ensure the dominance of GM & Chevrolet at race tracks all over the USA. It is a certainty that the 1969 Camaro is one of - if not the most sought-after muscle car of all time and that total Camaro production was a staggering 243,000 vehicles. At the top of this heap, the L72 427ci COPO Camaros are without a doubt top-tier collectibles. They stand out as some of the most desirable Camaros and Chevrolets ever produced. Of these approximately 1,000 9561 COPOs, approximately 80 were exported into Canada. The Canadian Ministry of Transportation kept detailed records of all the cars which came into Canada. The Canadian COPO 9561s are completely documented as to equipment and options, the dealership where the vehicle was delivered to, the
date it was delivered, and so on. These documents have been a doubleedged sword and many of the Canadian COPOs were “rebodied” during the restoration process or “built out of thin air” over the years. This COPO has no such issues. It is certified as not having been a rebody! The VINs and trim tag are authentic to and born with this Camaro. Nickey Chicago, Inc. certified this car many years ago, prior to its current maximum standards restoration. It is a past “Feature Car” on Yenko.net, a.k.a “The Super Car Registry” where all Chevy factory and Chevrolet Dealer built Super Cars are showcased and registered. This special COPO Camaro was also showcased at Super Car Reunion number 9, as well as other prominent National level shows. Much time and money, including lots of rare New Old Stock parts, as well as an extensive nut and bolt rotisserie restoration was completed, just a few years ago. The total cost of parts and labor to restore this COPO was approximately $225,000.00, not including the price of the car, itself initially already in better than average condition! Rally Green was only available as a Camaro color in late 1968 & 1969, and is sought after by Camaro enthusiasts and collectors alike, which serves to make this collectible icon of muscle car history that much more desirable.

ALL RESERVE - ALL THE TIME THE RULES HAVE CHANGED The integrity of “No Reserve” has been so badly compromised within our hobby that it no longer has value. Quality consignments are the result of only two scenarios; either the owner had paid a premium or has endured a costly and laborious restoration. Neither of these two will entice this caliber of automobiles to simply be “sold to the highest bidder – regardless of price”. These consignors want “top dollar” for their cars. And deservedly so. The challenge we auction companies face is how to attract these types of quality consignments and consign them with appropriate reserves that will be well received by our knowledgeable bidders. Sure, there was a time that being granted a “No Reserve” entry to some auctions was like winning a lottery ticket. The seller knew that they would probably sell the car for more than anywhere else on the planet. Or at least that was the perception. Now that the market has taken a more conservative turn, and quality inventory is selling for market relevant prices at most high caliber sales, consignors are now seeking to invest themselves in long term relationships with the auction house that best suits their particular needs and objectives. Russo and Steele will now be offering exclusively “With Reserve” entries to all our auction sales. I believe allowing owners this measure of control over the sale of their car results in the high quality consignments we have become known for presenting. All Reserve entries however mandates that the auction house be keenly in tune with the market to appropriately counsel our clients on market relative reserves.
THE DOWNSIDE RISK OF NO RESERVE At every auction on the planet there stands the chance that the “right” two (and yes it takes at least two) bidders are simply not in the room at that golden moment in time when a car is on the auction block. The downside risk for the consignor then results in two alternatives. One, allow his car to be “stolen” from him and be forces to sell the car at substantially less than we all know it is worth. Or two, compromise the integrity of our hobby by having a friend bid on the car or do so himself, and essentially “buy” his own car back. Both of these options fail to build the most important part of the process, the relationship between the consignor and the auction house.
THE DUTIES WE MUST FULFILL We have three duties to perform when we produce an auction sale. One, to the consignor. I am acutely aware that it is not a “cheap date” to bring a car to an auction, having spent many years as a consignor myself. Costs include transportation, detailing and preparation, care and feeding on site, food and lodging for the owner and (depending on the number of entries) possibly a small staff which in places like Scottsdale, Monterey and South Florida are on the farthest planet from Motel 6! These costs and investment, in my opinion, mandate that the auction house works with the seller to achieve a suitable reserve to achieve the objective of selling the car for the most money possible. To simply grant a ridiculous Reserve, that has no market relevance, is wasting the time and money of the seller.
30
™
Two, we have a duty to our bidders. To place vehicles on the auction block that they essentially cannot buy due to an unrealistic expectation of a seller is both frustrating and infuriating. Our bidding clients are keenly aware of the market values on the specific types of cars we bring to market. Many of them know that outstanding cars sell for a premium regardless of the trends up or down. As a result, many of our bidders will indeed understand this additional value but for unrealistic reserves to waste their time “fishing” for an anomaly with every final bid is disrespectful of both their savvy and their wallet. Third is simple economics. The caliber of events that we produce and the related expenses associated with this level of production simply cannot be compensated by the collection of entry fees, general gate, vendors, or sponsorship. We must sell cars with corresponding sellers and bidders commissions to pay the bills. It is that simple. To achieve a successful outcome and fulfill the duties to all three is indeed a delicate balance. It requires a staff who are closely in touch with the marketplace so that we can work with our sellers to consign great inventory, bring them to our auction sales with appropriate expectations and enable our bidders to buy them while enjoying the very best our hobby has to offer.
THE INVESTMENT IN OUR HOBBY The liability of No Reserve far out-weighs the benefits. Having a seller get “beat up” and him into selling his car for considerably less than market value or forcing him into a “buy back” at usurious commissions (either by contract or as a deterrent) fails at every level to foster and maintain long standing relationships. These are the very buyers who will hopefully become your best sellers when the time comes to trade, and will once again consign quality cars that will initiate relationships with new buyers. Sadly, somewhere along the way No Reserve has resulted in an adversarial relationship between sellers and the auction house. In addition, now that bidders are well aware of the many mechanisms used by unscrupulous sellers (know or unknown by the auction house) the integrity of our hobby is jeopardized by No Reserve entries. The myth of “stealing” a car just because it is No Reserve has been now been exposed. Savvy bidders will immediately recognize the value of quality consignments and aggressively bid accordingly. Our equity lies in the transactions of quality cars to astute enthusiasts. The announcement by Russo and Steele to now present our auctions with All Reserve entries has already been well received by our clients. The consignment of quality cars is the foundation upon which we have built our company and the fulfillment of this duty is directly responsible for the fortunate success we now enjoy. I believe this perspective is clearly evident in the quality of cars we present at our auction sales. I know this commitment will result in the long term health of our hobby and maintain the integrity which our clients have come to expect from our company. We welcome your Reserve entries and invite you to bid on the finest European Sports, American Muscle cars, Hot Rods and Customs at the next Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction!

2002 PORSCHE 996 GT3 SUPERCUP RACE CAR After winning the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans overall with the Porsche 911 GT1, Porsche had announced not to enter the 1999 Le Mans with a factory car suitable to defend the overall win against the competition by major automakers due to an internal agreement with Ferdinand Piech to leave the field to the Audi R8. Porsche instead decided to focus again on less expensive GT racing classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Grand-Am Rolex racing series, and began making plans to modify the new 996 generation of the 911. They set out to develop the race car simultaneously with a road-going variant which was required by GT class homologation rules. As such, the new GT3 model of the street 996 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999 before going on sale. Driven to victory in the 2002 Porsche Supercup series by Stephane Ortelli, one of the three winning drivers of the Porsche GT1 mentioned earlier at the 1998 24 heures du Mans, this amazing Porsche 996 GT3 car is the only one that won its series in its first year out at the hands of one of the period’s winningest drivers. Still in its period livery as-raced to the podium, it continues to represent one of the most significant recent racing Porsches still fit to use in current or historic series. Whether as a display car or something a skilled driver can put back into use, few Porsches represent the company’s near 60-year racing history to such an extent.

1967 ASTON MARTIN DB-6 COUPE This DB-6 was the last iteration of the great DB-4s introduced in the early 1960’s. This wonderful Coupe is freshly refinished in its original Silver Metallic coachwork executed to a Concours level of preparation. The interior has its original blue leather throughout and is right-hand-drive with an automatic transmission. It is very original in all respects and has the matching-numbers engine that performs very smooth and quietly. The car still retains its original 8-Track player, a mini Aston-Martin Fire Extinguisher hung on the passenger footwell wall, the original headliner and even appears to have its factory carpets from brand new. Its brilliant chrome wire wheels wear new period-correct Pirelli tires. Still retaining its original British Tags front and rear, it also features a very rare option; the Webasto sunroof operates as it should and is large enough to allow plenty of sunshine into the cabin even when closed, the brand-new Rolls-Royce Everflex vinyl fits perfectly across the roof. The car arrived on US shores in the early 1970’s as per paperwork included with the car. The 4 Litre straight-6 cylinder engine produces 282hp thanks to twin overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors. The engine has good oil pressure and never runs hot or overheats.

1966 DODGE HEMI CORONET 500 CONVERTIBLE Part of Chrysler’s motivation for bringing the Hemi to the boulevards was to certify it once again for NASCAR by building at least 500 street-ready examples. The Hemi had dominated NASCAR in 1964 but organizers decided it wasn’t truly a production engine and banned it for the 1965 season. Still, even with attractive options, a Coronet was less flashy than the Charger; about the only external clue was a discreet Hemi badge on the front fender. While any Coronet could be ordered with a Hemi engine, fewer than 1,000 examples of the 1966 model had it from the factory, of which only 27 had a top that went down. This 1966 Coronet 500 Convertible represents one of the rarest of the rare with its original 426ci Street Hemi and 4-speed manual transmission, all verified as numbersmatching by a Galen Govier visual inspection. Finished in silver with a black top and black interior, it was comprehensively restored using NOS and reconditioned original parts in an attempt to maintain the highest degree of originality. Attention to detail spared no trouble or expense: the instrument cluster has been reconditioned and all gages recalibrated, all glass is correctly date-coded and even all electrical and mechanical components down to the air and oil filters under the hood are 100 percent correct. Even the car’s underbody has only black sealer with a light dusting of color as per the factory and is undercoated only in wheel well areas and the tonneau area. As was the case with many of these cars from new, the car is authentic to the period in that it has no power options. Riding on period Blue-line tires with a matching spare, this beautiful, rare and frighteningly-quick ragtop has ‘got a Hemi’, and it’s a real one it’s had all its life.

1956 FORD THUNDERBIRD Based on the success of the initial Thunderbird, the 1956 model brought about more trunk space, the spare wheel was mounted outside, the exhausts were moved to the ends of the bumper and air vents were added behind the front wheels to improve cabin ventilation. To improve rear-quarter visibility with the removable hardtop in place, “porthole windows were made available as a no-cost option. An optional 312 Y-block V8 was made available for those that wanted more performance. 1956 was also the first year for 12 volt electrics. Despite the improvements, 1956 sales were 15,631, the lowest of all three 2-seater Thunderbird model years. As one of the lowest-production year Thunderbirds, the example offered here is a prime contender for one of the best in existence. Finished in the similarly-rare hue of Sunset Coral over a Coral and White interior and featuring the optional 312ci Thunderbird V-8 engine, this particular car spent years in a museum in Germany before being repatriated to the United States. With a comprehensive body-off restoration some years ago just beginning to unwind recently, the car has been the recipient yet again of a careful top-flight application of the restorer’s art by its current vendor. And so, unlike so many Thunderbirds seen the world over, this gorgeous and rare big V-8 1956 is again at its absolute prime and will be sure to please not only appreciative onlookers but also the fortunate few who have the ultimate privilege of taking it down the road again.

1984 FERRARI 512BBI The prototype Boxer made its debut at the Turin Auto Show in 1971, its top speed by Ferrari listed as a heady 188 MPH. When Enzo Ferrari finally decided to build this particular car, he surprised everyone by using a “flat-12” engine rather than a B-12. The long and low power plant appeared first in the company’s formula one cars during 1964 and 1965, then made its return in 1969. Further refinement issues were addressed in 1976, with the introduction of the Ferrari 512BB. The new name signified the engine 5.0 liters and 12 cylinders. Rear track increased by 1.7 inches and the body was 2 inches wider and 1.5 inches longer than the Daytona. The front end had a small chin spoiler, and Naca ducts helped rear brake cooling. At the 1981 Frankfurt Show, Ferrari introduced the final and arguably most superior version of the series, the fuel-injected Ferrari 512 BBi. This would prove to be the most popular of the entire BB series; the Ferrari 512 BBi looked almost identical to its predecessor, save minor exterior details such as badging, but its flat-12 featured Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection instead of multiple carburetors and used a Digiplex ignition system. The close Boxer production in 1984 represented yet another milestone in Ferrari history. “It was something special”, said builder Sergio Scaglietti, whose firm made the bodies. “It was the last car where we made everything by hand”. The example offered here is no exception. This car was imported by European Auto of Costa Mesa, California. This final year 512 BBi has traveled just over 19,720 kilometers since that time and has long been part of a collection of special cars. 36

1956 PORSCHE 356 SPEEDSTER Perhaps due both to celebrity ownership and its iconic slipstream shape, the best-known convertible model is the 356 Speedster, introduced in late 1954 after Max Hoffman, the sole US importer of Porsches, advised the company that a lower-cost, open-top version could sell well in the American market. With its low, raked windshield (which could be removed for weekend racing), bucket seats and minimal folding top, the Speedster was an instant hit, especially in Southern California. Production of the Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and then began to decline. Replaced in late 1958 by the “Cabriolet D” model, the Speedster’s sleek grace was slightly lost by the new refinement of the original as it featured a taller, more practical windshield, glass side windows and more comfortable seats. Like the Speedster, less than 1300 Cabriolet D models were produced, and 1958 brought about the replacement of the D by the 356B “Roadster” convertible and the end of an era. Finished in silver over a black interior with a black cloth top, this beautiful 1956 356 Speedster remains in fabulous condition both inside and out. The exterior paint is in excellent condition, literally flawless with not a scratch on it. As a long-term western example, there isn’t, nor has there ever been absolutely any rust on the body or pan anywhere. Inside, the spartan interior has been as lovingly-restored as the exterior with leather upholstery, correct carpets, crisp and clear instrumentation and the correct Nardi steering wheel. Long-ago re-powered with the engine from a 1961 356B, the numbers do not match the Porsche Zertifikat; however the engine compartment is as beautifully-detailed as the rest of the car. Not only a pleasure to look at, this engine is in prime operating condition, does not leak and is in excellent running order. If you’ve been on the hunt for a very special Speedster in one of the finest color combinations ever offered by Porsche, you will be hard pressed to find another car as beautiful as this on the market.

1965 SHELBY GT350 This car is a genuine GT-350, the Ford serial number and the Shelby number were verified by SAAC when the car was purchased by the current owner. 5S384 is one of only 516 street GT-350s produced in the first model year. It has been driven and enjoyed by several owners, including 18 years by the current owners. It has been well maintained and restored where appropriate with a few changes for safety and handling. No changes have been made that are not easily reversed for complete originality. This is a car with a potential to be used as a well-maintained driver or, due to its originality, it could be restored to a concourse level or converted into a reproduction R Code for historic racing. The body was stripped and repainted in 2003 and a photographic record is available for inspection. As with many of these cars, Shelby stripes were added. The interior is in excellent condition and has been recently refurbished and the glove box was signed by Carroll Shelby in 1999. While no antenna is present, the factory AM radio is present and works in its dashboard location. All of the Shelby-specific mechanical parts are present and in excellent condition. A dual chamber master cylinder has been installed for safety, but a single chamber 1965 type is included with the car. Its Cragar mags were restored by Craig Conley and shod with BF Goodrich Comp T/As. Under the hood, the engine is a replacement K-code block and heads installed during an earlier restoration by a prior owner. The correct Holley 4-barrel carburetor is present and was overhauled by Holley in 2004.

1966 JAGUAR XJ13 About ten years ago, the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust turned down a £7,000,000 offer for the unique prototype of Jaguar’s first V12-powered car, the original XJ13 designed as a LeMans entry to challenge Ford’s GT40. While its racing pedigree was never allowed to take off, the significance of this very special car ranks high in the annals of British supercars let alone the history of post-war prototypes on the grand circuit. As a replica of XJ13, the “Green Machine” is a representative of the original car, yet certain liberties have been taken in the basic structure, powertrain and ancillary equipment to make the vehicle not only more civilized for street use but also more potent and enjoyable for the end user. Where the original vehicle was an all aluminum monocoque structure, the Green Machine utilizes a modern space frame with FRP and aluminum body panels affixed to it. Naturally, the original car was also a strictly racing machine with no thought given to the usual creature comforts of street legal vehicles nor was any effort considered to comply with the legal requirements of public road usage. The ‘Green Machine’s mill puts out 500bhp and an amazing 518 foot-pounds of grunt. Relative to its curb weight of just 2460 pounds it is anticipated that performance will be quite spirited indeed. Like the original, the transaxle is a ZF 5 speed with a Centerforce single plate dual friction clutch bolted to a lightweight flywheel. Adding additional braking surfaces, it utilizes 17” wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires (up from XJ13’s 15” magnesium rims) which permits ventilated and cross-drilled disc brake rotor diameters of 13” with 4-piston staggered bore calipers.

1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO Z10 PACE CAR Of all the special option packages and engine choices available for 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, few examples of the breed combined a big-block high-horsepower engine with a hardtop coupe version of the Indianapolis Pace Car. Currently, it is believed by the vendor and many seasoned first-generation Camaro experts that no other 396ci/375hp L78, Z10 option code Indy Pace Car Coupes were built, let alone survive to this day. It is known that fewer than 300 Z10’s were produced, and of those, far fewer than 50 had the 396ci 325 or 350hp engines with the remaining 240 plus powered by the 350ci small block Chevrolet engine. The matching-numbers, comprehensively-restored Z10 offered here is fully documented back to the original purchase order as-built in the configuration you see here today, even sporting a 3.07:1 rear axle capable of speeds up to 170mph. If you want one of the rarest and most well-known examples of the first-generation Camaro that makes no excuses for what it is or its history from new, look no further.

1956 PORSCHE 356 T-1 CABRIOLET The 1956 Porsche 356A Type 1 Cabriolet on offer before you reflects quite possibly one of the finest examples on offer - if not in existence - anywhere. A complete pictorial album of the restoration is on display with the car and conveys to the next owner. In addition to the car’s number and date-matching correctness as regards pan, body and engine, all this car’s instruments, fuel tank and fuel level sender are dated to its original build. Inside, the seat leather was correctly tacked onto the wood frames - no staples were used on this car’s interior - just as it was delivered from the factory. The top is correctly nailed to the wood frame at the rear cowl, with new wood top bows having been hand-fabricated. Even the grill cloth on radio speakers is correct; having reproduced it for this car, the vendor then sold the rights to it to the largest Porsche aftermarket dealer in the world. Having personally restored every sub-system on the car himself, the vendor attests to the thoroughness with which the brakes, steering, suspension, pedal cluster, control cables and every nut and bolt inside, outside and in-between were attended to; even the nuts and washers on the transaxle are the correct 14mm that is nearly impossible to find. The car’s tools are correct and entirely concours-correct including a correct 2-Kilo copper hammer for the Rudge knock offs reproduced from one in an originallydelivered Rudge wheel car. An original Owners Manual in the correct cover also conveys along with service tags such as one for the Hirschmann “Red Tip” antenna and the correct Oil Tag’ that is wired onto the filter canister indicating that Shell oil was used at the factory for the original fill. With few if any peers to this quality in existence, this T-1 “A” was restored to the highest standards of excellence while remaining entirely correct throughout.

1966 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 427 A/C ROADSTER The Corvette has been America’s sports car since its inception. The “C2”, 19631967, mid-year Corvettes are amongst the most collectible and desirable of their breed. 1965 was the first year you could order a Mark IV Big Block for power, which was in the form of a 396ci engine. The size of Chevrolets Big Block was increased to a legendary 427 ci or 7 Liters for 1966. This 1966 Corvette is one of the very few, which came factory equipped with a 427ci engine. It also features rare factory air conditioning, which became a factory option in 1963. This option was extremely rare in 1966 and even more so in convertibles. This special Corvette has earned the coveted NCRS Top Flight, Blue Ribbon. It received an extensive complete frame off nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, just a few years ago and has been only driven a few hundred careful and sparing miles since. Look this Corvette over very closely, you will be very hard pressed to find an example of this quality and with these options, anywhere. The restoration costs of this vehicle exceeded $100,000.00 USD and that did not include the cost of the car. This numbers matching original drive train Corvette has an affidavit, verifying its authenticity, from the prior owner, who had the car restored. It also has a certificate of authenticity from Nickey Chicago, Inc.

1957 PORSCHE SPEEDSTER Not just a Speedster but a Super with an irrefutable Kardex and Porsche Zertifikat, the example offered here has been garaged and covered in a climate controlled environment since a full and comprehensive restoration in 2002. This car was originally picked up in Germany and delivered to the States to its first American owner. The pan-up overhaul preceded a return to a Concours-correct and beautiful original exterior and interior color combination. With fewer than 1,000 careful break-in miles on the new Shasta-built C engine since restoration, no mechanical aspect of the car was overlooked. In addition to being a Super, this Speedster features quite a few unusual options, including comfortable leather coupe seats, Blaupunkt radio, tonneau cover and one outside mirror on the driver’s side among others. Finally, not only has this car been owned by the vendor since the early 1980s, extensive documentation conveys with the car documenting its history back into the 1970s. As most connoisseur owners will attest, ownership, service and restoration history are paramount with any Porsche but absolutely imperative with top-tier Speedsters such as this amazing example.

1964 JAGUAR XKE ROADSTER Most easily recognized by glass-covered headlights, small “mouth” opening at the front, signal lights and tail-lights above bumpers and exhaust tips under the license plate in the rear, the first E-Types are the car many people think of when one mentions a Jaguar sports car. Cosmetically and mechanically both to the same high standard, this 1964 model XK-E was recently the subject of a comprehensive tub-up restoration to the highest standards. It is finished in Jaguar’s original Cream hue with a correct tan cloth top that is accented with deep red piping that matches the exquisite leather and carpet. Under the long, flowing wrap-around bonnet, the original 3.8 litre XK6 engine was blueprinted and balanced as part of a thorough overhaul to modern specifications, then further enhanced with a modern high-torque starter, Pertronix ignition, soildstate fuel pumps and a multi-blade electric cooling fan. A period restored Grundig multi-band radio sets off the rest of the instrument-and-switch-laden dash panel and interior detailing to a tee. Even the car’s boot suffered no lack of fastidious detailing, with a perfect spare wheel and tyre, complete original kit, tyre jack and a mint condition owner’s handbook.

1970 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302 “The Boss 302 is a hell of an enthusiast’s car,” said Car and Driver, “It’s what the Shelby GT 350s and 500s should have been but weren’t.” With never-rusted, alloriginal sheetmetal and numbers-matching throughout from body to mechanicals, the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 on offer here is as correct from top to bottom as one can be. This example was restored over four years with extensive documentation in the very early 1980s, allowing for the preservation of the entire original interior and trunk, original tires, hubcaps and wheel trim rings, dated Autolite shocks, data plate, glass, lights, bumpers, battery and tray. In addition, new old stock parts convey including a complete correct factory exhaust system and much more. Whether on the car or off, parts of this sort documenting any car’s comprehensive preservation of original parts is nearly unmatched anywhere. The car features not only unbelievable preservation of original parts and features but also immaculate care to its nearly 30-year old restoration. Never undercoated, the wheel wells and underside are as pristine and clean as the top surfaces. Under the hood, the details are just as crisp, concise and complete as everywhere else and the engine features its original distributor, water pump, radiator and shaker hood components though the engine itself was painstakingly rebuilt just 300 miles ago. Of course, documentation including the original window sticker, #2 sticker, Warranty card and a Gold Marti Report convey with this exceptional example. Further, it goes without saying that numerous magazine articles and awards have followed this Boss around since the time of its restoration. Showing just 65,810 miles from new and historic preservation of an unmatched amount of original features, this beautiful car’s similarly unrepeatable and undeniable preservation stands for more than one-of-one anywhere; it represents a stunning example of Ford muscle history appropriate to any collection.

1960 FACEL VEGA HK500 2-DOOR COUPE Facel founder Jean Daninos’s primary goal for his company was to create a postwar car that would bring his native France back to the front of the GT market. Facel already had plenty of experience in manufacturing cars for other companies, and a contract cancellation left one of its factories running well below maximum output. With the facilities, the resources, and -- perhaps most importantly -- the drive to succeed, Daninos set out in earnest to make his goal a reality. The first-generation Facel Vega was unquestionably in the grand routier tradition, spiritual heir to the prewar greatness of Delage and Delahaye. Though faster, more stylish and more roadworthy than its predecessor, the HK500 was still mainly a grand touring machine a comfortable, lavishly equipped highspeed cruiser of obvious quality. Built in September of 1960, the 1960 Facel Vega HK500 on offer here was originally finished in Tudor grey over a red leather interior. The car is powered by the dual-quad 383ci Chrysler Wedge engine and backed by the Pont-a-Mousson 4-speed manual transmission. The car was ordered and delivered at the Facel factory in France for a Mexican client recorded simply as Ascarragas’ on delivery paperwork dated 13 October, 1960. According to the FacelVega club who had the above-mentioned delivery information, Ascarragas also ordered a Facel-Vega Excellence reportedly for the then-President of Mexico. As one of only 540 HK500s ever built, ownership of this spectacular automobile all but guarantees that this spectacular, largely original automobile will always represent the select “few who own the finest.”

1971 DETOMASO PANTERA This 1971 Pantera was recently restored by its Phoenix-based vendor on a costno-object basis from stem to stern and was just completed in June. Finished in its original Victory Red’ hue over a new black leather interior, the car was taken down to bare metal inside and out and put back to better than new. Its original 351 Cleveland’ V-8 was professionally built to 408 cubic inches with a billet crankshaft, roller rockers, and much more, then was fitted with an SD & LA Morrison cross-ram EFI manifold and FAST EFI controller, resulting in an amazing 535 horsepower with 548 foot-pounds of torque per the dynamometer. The engine is cranked over by a new high-torque starter and features a 100 amp alternator for efficient and reliable starting and charging. Transferring the power to the freshly-rebuilt and extremely rare ZF1 transmission, a dual-friction Centerforce clutch and flywheel were utilized. On the suspension side, billet-aluminum fully-adjustable shocks, new sport coil springs and super axles were employed for maximum handling and durability under high-stress conditions. GT-5 Wilkinson wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport rubber put the power to the pavement with aplomb. Much more has been omitted here than has been completed, so a full sheaf of records, receipts and documentation cover the car’s immediate history as well as the dedication a labor of love if ever there was one - that went into its meticulous restoration for you to peruse. If you’ve ever lusted for the power, reliability and performance of a bulletproof American V-8 combined with complementary iconic yet timeless Italian styling that made the Pantera a hit from start to finish, you need look no further than this elegantlycrafted scalpel cum sledgehammer with which to hit the open road.

1999 VECTOR M12 During the period of excessive spending by the young & wealthy baby boomers in the mid 1980s, many exotic cars were being made to satisfy the craving of this sector of the market. The Vector M12 was a vehicle designed by the America-based Vector Aeromotive Corporation, and was the first vehicle produced after the company was bought by the Indonesian company Megatech. The original car built was called the W8, a GM based V-8 powered “Supercar” that was a failure, due to the high price of manufacturing it as well as the fall of the stock market of 1987. The next generation of Vector was this Vector M12 & could be considered a basic redesign to the Vector WX-3 Show car, never released to the public due to the Megatech buyout. Among many small changes to the vehicle’s design was one fundamental change to the drivetrain. A 5.7 liter Lamborghini V-12 engine, producing 492 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm was chosen to power the car. However the WX-3 had been designed to accommodate a V-8, therefore Vector had to completely redesign the chassis to hold the longer V-12. The resulting changes forced the cockpit of the Vector M12 to be moved further forward than the WX-3. In total, there were 18 Vector M12s produced (four pre-production models and 14 production models). One of the M12 pre-production cars was converted to motorsport specification by the factory, but it had no success in the few races it entered, as it was forced to retire due to mechanical problems in every race. The Vector M12 was produced from 1995 to 1999. The M12 production run ended when Vector went into debt and couldn’t pay Lamborghini for the engines. This Silver Metallic M12 example has beautiful Navy Blue leather & is a very late production car making it way better than the earliest M12’s. This M12 runs cool & the Air Conditioning is nice & cold. It was sold new in Ft. Lauderdale by the Auto Toy Store. Having just over 3,600 original miles on it, this is one incredible investment opportunity for a true American Supercar that will not be able to be replaced by anything close in the near future by any US car maker. This is your opportunity to own the prettiest M12 made & may well be the most reliable of any of the 14 cars produced.

1967 CHEVROLET SS 427 CONVERTIBLE This particular example is one of the 2,124 factory original SS427s ever produced. It also has the distinction of being one of the few SS427 convertibles ever produced. No one knows for certain how many of the convertibles were made but suffice it to say, documented examples are extremely rare and one of the most desirable collectibles from 1967. This is a Los Angeles built car which has the L in the serial number and no build sheet was found inside the car. However it has been since discovered that the trim tag of a true SS427 has a special code which designates the rare option. This is code “4N”. The car also retains its original numbers matching engine code IS for a 427 ci 385hp SS427 with a TH400. There are also important structural elements incorporated ONLY into an SS427 convertible, which were not used on any other Impalas. This SS427 has been inspected and certified by Tom Dietz, noted Impala expert and historian. It also has two affidavits: One from the most recent owner and one from the private detective verifying the cars authenticity. It also has a certificate of authenticity from Nickey Chicago, Inc. If you’re looking for a real deal SS427 convertible to add to your collection then this is, one of the very best available.

1964 PORSCHE “OUTLAW” 356/930 CONVERSION This forced-induction 1964 Porsche features a wider body with extreme fender flares, aerodynamic front and rear spoilers and an amazing amount of power over and through the rear wheels. The stylistic appeal of the original Porsche combined with the power from the later model car inspired the builder of the car on offer here. Finished in 2006 at a cost of more than $115,000, this 1964 356 features a carefully-modified 930 engine on a custom tubular frame that also carries the coil-over suspension running Bosch CIS fuel injection combined with Unwired Tools Digital Fuel Pressure Controller, MSD ignition, Snow Performance Water/Methanol injection, oil fed chain tensioners, SC cams, Garrett 3092R Ball Bearing Turbo, a Tial 45MM wastegate and custom fabricated headers/exhaust that combine to result in a figure of 320 horsepower at the rear wheels. The transaxle’s gears were changed to close-ratio for 1st, 2nd and 3rd with a stock 4th gear so loping along at 80 miles per hour is only 3000RPM. A separate 12 relay controlled and fused power distribution system was fabricated and fitted to supply the engine, pumps, cooling fans and air conditioning. The brakes were likewise converted, a dual-circuit brake master cylinder powers 911 vented and cross-drilled discs up front while Wilwood cross-drilled discs bring the rears to a halt. All of this would seem rather senseless if the car was not restored to concours standards; a 2-stage PPG paint job, all chrome parts were re-plated, all glass replaced and new rubber seals and wear parts were fitted throughout the car. To complete the look, this unique 356 rides on 911-style Fuchs alloys carefully polished to a chrome-like luster and shod with high-performance rubber. If you never wanted a 356 unless it performed like a newer Porsche, here’s your chance to own an unbelievable conversion that truly embraces the best of both substance and style that is all Porsche from bumper to bumper.

1951 PORSCHE 356/1500 REUTTER SPLIT WINDOW COUPE
This lovely, distinctive and early production split-window ‘interim-bumper’ example of a 1951 356 ‘Pre-A’ coupé received a high-quality restoration some years ago. What we know about the history is it was originally sold from the Park Avenue dealership owned by the United States importer, Max Hoffman. It was sold to an unknown owner who kept the car until 1964 when it was sold to a New York City auto dealer. This fellow stored the vehicle in his Lime Rock, CT barn until it was discovered in 1989 by Porsche restorer, Craig Stevenson. The vehicle was found complete, though partially disassembled. The car currently sports a 1500cc engine. The panelwork is very straight with good shut lines to the doors, engine lid and front boot while the attractive green finish exhibits the care, quality of workmanship and preservation since the car’s recommissioning. Inside, contrasting green upholstery can be found on the folding front seats as well as on the matching door trim and door pockets, while correct square-weave carpeting covers the remaining surfaces. The dash layout includes clear gauges and an original and rare Telefunken period radio. The engine compartment is as tidy as the rest of the car and has had just a nominal amount of running since it was overhauled in the past. With the attractive Reutter bodywork and a rare and correct color scheme, this attractive early interim bumper 356 cannot help but be highly desirable to both concours purists and driving enthusiasts alike. 64

1962 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 BT7 To our knowledge, this is the only polished-aluminum Big Healey in existence. After 2000 hours of frame-off restoration and enhancement, this is the car Donald Healey would have driven if his factory had been capable of artfully fitting aluminum panels and not simply building racers in aluminum and puttying over the gaps. With 300 pounds trimmed, this baby can be expected to move like a 200-hp beast, one of the world’s quickest Healeys as perhaps the most beautiful. Everyone who sees this Healey wants the whole story, starting from how it was acquired as a rusted out hulk to its renaissance as a rolling work of art. This unique vehicle comes with complete receipts and photographic documentation detailing the entire process.

1960 MGA TWIN CAM ROADSTER One of the last Twin Cam MGA’s imported into California, this MGA TwinCam represents one of very few that were made for competition. In appearance, there is little to distinguish it from the other standard MGA models, except its special centre-locking steel disc wheels and badge additions. However, the engine was a development of the B-series unit which was being used in the standard car. Twin one and three quarter inch SU carburettors were fitted as standard, giving a power output of around 110bhp which was sufficient to propel the Twin Cam to a maximum speed approaching 115mph, while at the same time slashing acceleration times by a considerable amount.

1963 FORD THUNDERBIRD This example of a 1963 convertible was created on April 16, 1963 in the Ford Thunderbird plant at Wixom, MI. A ground up restoration was begun in 1998 and finished in 1999 by a retired Ford Parts Manager. This was done to Factory Specifications per the original Factory Identification Tag and available sales records.
