Frozen Soul Death Metal band from United States released the first Fulllength album Crypt of Ice on January 8, 2021. Dallas Texas’ FROZEN SOUL lives up to their name as the sound of death metal at its most cold and classic. Riff after slow, grinding riff, there’s no mistaking the themes of isolation and suffering that permeate the quintet’s massive sonic missives. From the first note of their Century Media debut, Crypt of Ice, it’s like the march of Game of Thrones’ Night King put to sound: nothing subtle about it at all. “The feeling I’m getting from playing in FROZEN SOUL is powerful in a way I wasn’t getting from other bands I’ve played in before», says frontman
Chad Green. “The sound. The lyrics. Even the logo itself has a harshness to it that just feels powerful and cold. Add to that the depression of dealing with real life and the venomous people that can inhabit it and the vibe of the band just makes sense.” Lineup Samantha Mobley - Bass Michael Munday - Guitars Chad Green - Vocals Matt Dennard - Drums Chris Bonner - Guitars

Alkonost Folk/Pagan/Doom/Black Metal band from Russia released the thirteenth Fulllength album Ведомые ветром / Guided by the wind on January 21, 2021. In Slavic mythology, Alkonost (Алконост) is the goddess of the land of the dead. power of the word and what is the word of power. The new album will tell you how the wind fills the sail of a misguided ship and leads him out of the fog to the saving light of a lighthouse. And how a word can lead and change the fate of a person, igniting the flames of the heart the way the wind blows the fire. And also about what happens if you don’t listen to the wise words and go against the wind. For example, if you swim across the river after sunset on the eve of a Long Night, neglect the seer’s advice or offend those who are protected by a spell.

Caedes Cruenta Black Metal band from Greece released the third Full-length album Of Ritual Necrophagia and Mysterious Ghoul Cults on February 1, 2020. Formed in 2003, Caedes Cruenta are the foremost torchbearers for the classic Greek black metal sound. For them, the early Hellenic flame of the “Big Three” – Rotting Christ, Varathron, and Necromantia – never died, nor did the contemporaneous flames of early Thou Art Lord and Zemial among others.

“Greek black metal” may have changed shapes and styles over the past 30 years, but for the members of Caedes Cruenta, the ancient days of the early ‘90s burns stronger than ever. Like its full-length predecessor and the EPs right before and right after, one could be forgiven for thinking CAEDES CRUENTA have transported the listener back in time with Of Ritual Necrophagia and Mysterious Ghoul Cults, so authentic and invigorating is their Hellenic classicism. Thus, with this album do CAEDES CRUENTA rightfully deserve to be mentioned among the Greek gods.

Dead Exaltation Technical/Progressive Death Metal band from India released the first Fulllength album Despondent on February 5, 2020. Dead Exaltation began in 2015, drawing inspiration from a variety of bands, including Cryptopsy, Cattle Decapitation, Gorod, Spawn of Possession, and Cynic. Throughout their existence, the band has focused on creating thought-provoking, concept-based lyrics and song structures adorned with complex rhythms and melodies, as well as an old school sensibility. Lyrically the band chooses to add a bit of spice to the usual death metal fare by creating
a conceptual story that continues with every song. It revolves around a psychopath warden who runs a prison holding innocent people picked up from the streets. The guards of prison are cannibal psychopaths who do not refrain themselves from torturing, killing, and eating people. Like every good tale, this story is divided into three acts: the incidents, the psychology of the warden, and an investigation leading to a brutal and bloody end of the story.

Kjeld Black Metal band from Netherlands released the second Full-length album Ôfstân on February 15, 2020. The album was written over the course of 2017, 2018, and 2019. It is an extension and an evolution of their previous works that raises the bar set in the past, with nine insanely strong songs. Ever since their early beginnings, the band has had one vision: to combine aggression and atmosphere in black metal. The band draws inspiration from Frisian nature, myths and sagas, and the darkness of man, combining these to create their own unique
sound. Kjeld plays fast paced black metal without forsaking melody and dynamics. This album is crafted with impressive songwriting and a monolithic sound, with total attention for pure genius melodies, fueled with the most ferocious and aggressive drumming The Netherlands has to offer. This album is pure creative mastery, with their trademark sound and riffs combined to create their own unique sound. As always, the songs are soaked in the rich and ancient Frisian history, and solely chanted in Frisian, a minority Germanic language most closely related to English.

Harakiri for the Sky Post-Black Metal band from Austria released the fifth Full-length album Mære on February 19, 2020. Mӕre - a malicious folkloristic entity creeping on sleeping people’s chest during the night and causing breathlessness and anxiety. It’s exactly this state of diffuse terror and paralysis that has been enshrined in HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY’s music ever since their debut album. As pioneers of the post movement, mixing haunting black metal with post rock moments, the Austrians have, ever since their conception in 2011, drawn fans and

critics deeper and deeper into their maelstrom of melancholy, self hate and anger, and even reached #29 of the German charts with their previous release «Arson». Thron Black Metal band from Germany released the third Full-length album Pilgrim on February 19, 2020. Formed in 2015 as a project of experienced, devoted musicians from German bands in the Black Forest region, THRON’s initial goals were to play authentic black/ death in the spirit of the early to mid ‘90s. Grabak Black Metal band from Germany released the seventh Full-length album Scion on March 31, 2021. A few years after «Furia l» on the «Agash Daeva» album, the band thought it would be a good idea to bring a second part of the concept to life. «Furia» stands for everything that means destruction, decay and fall. Social values, cultures and religious concepts are nothing but cobwebs in autumn or a blow job on a gloomy street corner. They are interchangeable and
3030
have no meaning in the course of the eons. Everything repeats itself, is recreated, and disappears again. And that order in chaos is Furia. No compromises are made in terms of style. Furious riffs are paired with mid-tempo parts that skillfully set the desired atmospheric density to music. Once again, the Saxon veteran collaborated with Echolux recording studios to provide this opus with the right sound. Let’s follow Grabak into the abyss of human souls, which can present themselves in many diff erent ways, and let’s face the conjured demons from old and new times.

Wode Black Metal band from United Kingdom released the third Full-length album Burn in Many Mirrors on April 2, 2021. With six new tracks spanning 40 minutes of meticulously summoned infernal ferocity Wode scorch the landscape and drape it in the foul reek of death’s fog. One may hear the ancient voice of obscure and revered gods reflected through Wode’s sulphuric incantations, the raging fire of the most blasphemous legends of the past called upon by the spirit of chaos and death. Shrouded in sepulchral black metal atmosphere and freezing cold melodies ‘Burn
In Many Mirrors’ displays a studied regard for songcraft and motive well beyond mere convention, transforming into a concentrated dark chorus of ruin and abomination. Now into the second decade of existence in the material plane, Wode’s definitive melding of black metal’s ecstatic desecration, death metal’s sharply attuned sense of violent purpose and classic anthemic 80s metal
instills ‘Burn In Many Mirrors’ with the elements necessary to sear itself into the fervent heart of the faithful. Tracklist 1. Lunar Madness 2. Serpent’s Coil 3. Fire in the Hills 4. Saille Symphonic Black Metal band from Spain/Netherlands/ Belgium released the fifth Fulllength album V on April 9, 2021. Sail or Saille is the 4th letter of the Irish Ogham alphabet, meaning «willow». The band name is pronounced [sahl-yeh]. Hailing from the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium, SAILLE is slowly, but surely making their mark on the metal scene and performed all over Europe. In 2019 SAILLE felt the need for a dramatic overall change, which led to a fresher, but most importantly much darker, heavier approach and sound. Since their inception, SAILLE has released four acclaimed albums of which the 2017 release ‘Gnosis’ was very well received and praised. With every song sounding unique and full of riffs, savage drumming,
thunderous bass and excellent vocals. At the same time, SAILLE was seeking a deeper darkness, both live and in the studio. Therefore, the fifth album is an entirely different style.

Hymnr Black Metal band from Russia released the first Full-length album Far Beyond Insanity on April 23, 2021. Describing themselves as a «Black Metal band from unknown parts of the world» HYMNR plays its cards very close to its chest when it comes to its lineup, saying little more than that it is comprised of V on Vocals, V1 on Guitars and VII on Drums. Intriguingly, the band did have this to say regarding both its formation, and it music: HYMNR is an entity, a
formation that spawned itself. The music, the story, and the concept of HYMNR is its own tale, charting the tragic path that has led the world, humanity, and religion on a downwards spiral. HYMNR is not so much a band as a concept that sets forth the old anguish-filled tales of how it all ended up where it did. willing to embark on this journey. HYMNR needs to be heard and seen, and, above all, felt. Tracklist 1. Part I 2. Part II 3. Part III 4. Part IV Lineup VII - Drums VI - Guitars, Bass V - Vocals

Rituals Of The Dead Hand Black/Doom Metal band from Belgium released the second Fulllength album With Hoof and Horn on May 1, 2021. In 2018 the world witnessed the reincarnation of the infamous ‘Buckriders’, various gangs of vile robbers who terrorized the borderlands of Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands in the late 18th century. Led by their menacing captain, they sold their souls to the Devil, rode by night on the backs of flying goats and mercilessly pillaged and burned the houses of godfearing Christians across the dim and bleak marshlands… The unholy Belgian three piece known as Rituals Of The Dead Hand, fully embraced this piece of dark folklore and translated it into a relentless attack of old school death/black metal on their debut ‘Blood Oath’, an album hailed by critics and
fans alike. Now, three years later, the shadows are moving again… On their second offering ‘With Hoof And Horn’, Rituals Of The Dead Hand walks the same path of no-nonsense, old school extreme metal updated in a modern and contemporary atmosphere. Again, the four lengthy tracks dive into the legends, myths and tales of the notorious robbers who were ultimately caught, tortured, trialed and executed for their horrific and blasphemous acts… Truth or legend? Simple folklore or further proof that the Devil is always lurking in the dark, especially behind man’s most sacrilegious deeds? Whatever your answer is, with ‘With Hoof And Horn’, the Buckriders will ride again!

Djevel Black Metal band from Norway released the seventh Full-length album Tanker som rir natten on May 14, 2021. A new era, the third if you’d like, is here. Ten years ago, Djevel burst into the Black Metal scene with the debut «Dodssanger». With fierce, raw energy and a breathtaking, ominous melodic touch, the trademark sound of the band had been placed. Now ten years into the story, the band has kept the sound and spirit but evolved through three stages of new musicians being added to the signature riffs of main composer

Ciekals, developing the music to new heights, while still maintaining the sonic outlet that identifies Djevel. So here we enter the third era, where Ciekals and Faust (ex-Emperor, Blood Tsunami) have been joined by new vocalist/bassist Kvitrim (Vemod). The raw feeling is still intact, and the acoustic elements have returned. But the eerie, haunting atmosphere has grown stronger, making it the most varied output from the band thus far.

Ildfar Black Metal band from Norway released the first Full-length album Som vinden farer vil on May 14, 2021. The solo-project Ildfar plays Black Metal reminiscent of the 2nd wave Black Metal of the Norwegian mid-90s. Originally founded in 1994 by sole member Favn, the project was inactive for long periods of time and never officially released anything. Songs were written, material recorded, but it was only in 2018 that Favn decided to take the next step and started rerecording the old songs, some of which dating back to the mid and late 90s, for the debut album «Som vinden farer vil». Hence, it is no surprise that listening to
the album creates strong feelings of nostalgia in those of us who were around back then when Norwegian Black Metal was in its prime.

Winter Eternal Melodic Black Metal band from United Kingdom released the third Full-length album Land of Darkness on June 4, 2021. Winter Eternal formed in 2011 in Athens, Greece but now located in United Kingdom. Thrillingly chilling yet breathtakingly emotional, Land of Darkness absolutely bristles with an ancient-days mysticism and melodicism that bring black metal’s majestic past into the present. So authentic is WINTER ETERNAL’s understanding of classic songcraft as well as sympathetic production, agonized and effervescent in equal measure, you’d be forgiven for thinking Land of Darkness was some lost relic released in 1997. However, again like its full-length predecessor but more so here, WINTER ETERNAL poignantly taps
into that wellspring of creation the aforementioned legends did and feeds his own lifeforce into it, flexing fluid chops along the way - always in service of The Song, of course - and returns with a ninesong/40-minute document of dreams both dark and beautiful. Nodding to his forebears, Soulreaper reverentially concludes the album with a cover of Gates of Ishtar’s «Dawn of Flames.»

Path of Destiny B l a c k Symphonic Melodic Death/Black Metal band from Germany released the third Full-length album The Seed of All Evil on June 11, 2021. Five years after “Dreams In Splendid Black”, PATH OF DESTINY return with a new album, which again needed a long ripening process. That’s why it presents the German melodic death metal outfit more diverse and more mature than ever before. All ten songs on “The Seed Of All Evil” feature an ominous character, because they mirror the society in a way that makes it even impossible to take a close look into the mirror itself. The anthemic opener ‘The Division Of A Spiral Synergy’ immediately
shows the strengths of the band: melodies that are there to stay and a thrilling heaviness. The midtempo track ‘Erased By Light’ battles its way through darkness in an epic manner, while ‘Endbringer’ is a blast beat driven speed attack. The furious ‘March Of The Antichrist’ lives up to its name and creates a pitch black atmosphere.

Eye of Purgatory Death Metal band from Sweden released the second Full-length album The Lighthouse on June 18, 2021. Swedish death metal mastermind Rogga Johansson has displayed a penchant for infusing classic style melodies in his kind of death metal which is most evident in his eponymous band and also to an extent in Revolting and Paganizer. It’s reminiscent of the timeless bands such as Edge of Sanity, Desultory, early Cemetary, early Tiamat, Pan.Thy.Monium and others where they added a
6666
dimension without diluting the heaviness. Rogga’s bands are known to be fast and hard-hitting and such melodic depth counterbalances the pummelling demeanour and adds rare emotive appeal. The music straddles the conventional HM-2 death metal and the more melodic side of it brilliantly, keeping it tasteful and not oversaturating it with too much of either. Teaming up with members of Ribspreader and Venom Inc., he brings to life his vision of classic Swedish death metal with its inherent crunchy heaviness and soulripping melodies. Albums like these are extremely rare in these times especially ones with genuine emotive quality and conviction.

Latest releases Decayed new album Old Ghosts and Primeval Demons delivers a mostly raw, buzzing quality to the rhythms that features utterly straightforward and truly one-note tremolo-styled riffing firmly entrenched in the crossover area between the first and second-wave black metal movements, containing that fiery, frost-riddled atmosphere while containing the rocking energies and rhythms that manage to merge these two styles together quite well, and given the genesis of their creation it’s quite appropriate to mix together these styles.
Decayed Old School Black Metal band from Portugal released the fourteenth Full-length album Old Ghosts and Primeval Demons on June 18, 2021. Suidakra Melodic Death Metal band from Germany released the fifteenth Full-length album Wolfbite on June 25, 2021. Suidakra started as Gloryfication and recorded one demo, known as «XIII» in 1994. Taake Black Metal band from Norway released the Compilation Avvik on July 2, 2021. Over the past months, Norwegian Black Metal icons TAAKE have released a series of 10» splits with three different bands (WHOREDOM RIFE, DEATHCULT and HELHEIM), on three different labels, and, as always happens in the case of vinyl releases, fans have been asking for a CD version. On the 2nd July, they released a limited edition Digipak CD, along with a Digital version, of the six TAAKE tracks from the series, which include a very special acoustic version of “Nattestid ser Porten vid I”, acknowledged by Black Metal fans the world-over as not only a
classic TAAKE track, but a classic of the whole genre itself. The release is titled «Avvik», which translated means «anomaly» or «deviation», which makes it a very appropriate title given that the tracks from the splits would never really fit into any of TAAKE’s own releases. You could, of course, also argue that TAAKE mastermind Hoest has always ploughed a very individual furrow with his Helnorsk Svartmetall sound, standing outside the mainstream of Black Metal, and therefore making the choice of title doubly apt.

Romlin, «Hädanfärd» is an infernal, bleak monolith of an album, one that will most likely see Night Crowned step out as one of Sweden’s best kept blackened death metal secrets. Hailed by critics and fans alike

Consisting of former and current members of legendary acts such as Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System and with a musical vision as clear as it is haunting and disturbing, the band created with their latest album an imposing work full of rage, melancholy and pure destruction, offering a true reawakening of the sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian ‘90s.

Necrogod Death Metal band from Sweden / Costa Rica released the first Fulllength album In Extremis on July 23, 2021. Necrogod is the perfect expression of atavistic death metal brutality spearheaded by none other than Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Revolting, Eye of Purgatory) who has teamed up with the revered The Master Butcher (Morbid Stench, Insepulto) to make this feat possible. It’s a product of careful deliberation and years of experience, with Rogga Johansson laying down the heaviest music of possibly his entire career and The Master Butcher just taking things to another level with his barrage of unearthly roars. This is the culmination of death metal mastery, a groovy, pummeling record that imbibes the best elements of Swedish and American death metal scenes to create a truly
fearsome record without parallel. What’s surprising is that despite the face-blasting aggression and unbridled vocal delivery, the music is well-rounded with thought-out structures, tempo changes, build-ups, solos and even traces of sick melodies. Clearly a marked deviation from the usual Rogga Johansson fare that one is acquainted with, this is some next level old school brutality that will knock you flat and will have you crawling back for more.

Diskord Death Metal band from Norway released the third Full-length album Degenerations on August 13, 2021. Eccentric Norwegian death metal band Diskord have made quite a reputation for themselves over the years for playing some twisted, unhinged death metal that takes the best elements of old school death metal, dissonant death metal, technical death metal, even progressive and jazz music, and then some. We wanted to try how the streaming shows might work. We wanted to see what kind of new music might grow in the darkness and misery of the quarantine. And soon these

Livløst Black Metal band from Norway released the third Full-length album Symphony of Flies on September 17, 2021. «Symphony of Flies» is the third Livløst’s album, the two norwegians are playing an uncompromising, grimly dissonant and bewitched black metal with definitively sinster atmospheres. Often difficult, frequently nightmarish, this stuff easily ranks as one of nordic lands’ more challenging and oblique offerings. And for us, one of his most fascinating. With a mix of various norsk black metal traditions, atmospheric and mid-tempo practices, and a radical approach to traditional
notions of extreme music in its truest sense, ‘Symphony of Flies’ is undoubtedly highly demanding of the listener. ...a dreamlike descent into the realm of death. Tracklist 1. Symphony of Flies 2. No Reason 3. Holy Night 4. Angelperfume 5 . Red 6. Hostel

In the southern parts of Sweden, in between the two major revered metal cities, Gothenburg and Stockholm lie the small town of Eksjö, just about 60 kilometers from Jönköping. Surturs Lohe Viking/Folk Black Metal band from Germany released the fifth Full-length album Wielandstahl on September 24, 2021. «Surturs Lohe» translates to «Surtur’s blaze». In Nordic mythology Surtr is the leader of the fire giants and the ruler of Muspelheim, the realm of fire. Hegemon Black Metal band from France released the fifth Full-length album Sidereus Nuncius on October 7, 2021. HEGEMON came to life in the winter of 1996 with one and only goal: to create music full of rage coming from the deepest part of each of its founding members, A, N and F. The birth of the band never followed a plan nor had any great expectations. As years went by other shadows came in and out of the band, leaving their mark only momentarily. AD and D were the last souls to slip
122122
into the den to call it home and to form a strong, determined, united front that nothing nor anyone could ever break. Several albums were released, enabling the band to assert its music and to forge its identity regardless of trends, conventions, and outside expectations. HEGEMON simply plays the Black Metal that burns in its soul with sincerity, honesty and integrity, never having claimed to be trailblazers, the group’s only creed. Together with this wild desire for freedom, independence, and complete rejection of
anything that could reduce man to slavery, more and more the band profoundly rejects its human roots, as witnessed by the substitution of the band members’ names for a simple letter, because only music and disobedience count. Necromantia Aristocratic Black Metal band from Greece released the fifth Full-length album To the Depths We Descend... on October 15, 2021. Necromantia is a Latin word which derives from Greek, and means «Divination of the Dead». The band was created in late 1989 by two likeminded individuals: The Magus (bass/vocals) and Baron Blood (8-string bass). Their aim was to create original, powerful and innovative Diabolical music, replacing the usual 6-string guitars with 8-string bass and joined forces with various musicians in

drums, lead guitars, keyboards and innovations in order to complete their magical formula. Their first recordings earned them a cult status in the scene since their music was original, ritualistic and utterly sinister. NECROMANTIA never hesitated to use “non-metal” instruments like saxophone, percussions etc. in addition to their standard metal orchestrations, and that option made them unique and
established their own individual sound. In 2019 Baron Blood departed from this world. With unflinching viciousness and a sense of atmosphere unique to the band, on Rugia, their twelfth full-length, they push the boundaries of their craft even further. “It was clear to me that it should build upon and evolve from our previous record ‘Auric Gates Of Veles’ (2019) both musically and lyrically. However, every Hate record stands as a separate journey, and never twice to the same place. You never know exactly

Pavulon (drums), who had played with the band since 2014, was forced to step down from the band due to serious health issues. The band tapped Nar-Sil (Neolith, Virgin Snatch, Embrional) to take his place. “Working with a new drummer this time around was a fascinating experience for me. Cradle of Filth have hit an unmistakable hot streak of creativity and urgency. As a new line-up coalesced around the creation of 2015’s «Hammer Of The Witches», fresh impetus propelled the band to new heights, as the revitalised crew became more in demand around the world than ever before. 2017’s «Cryptoriana -The Seductiveness Of Decay» repeated the trick with even

Massacre Death Metal band from United States released the fourth Fulllength album Resurgence on October 22, 2021. Florida-based death metal legends Massacre are back! Featuring the very same creatures that appeared on the Chamber of Ages (1986) demo, as well as some of death metal’s most prolific and malignant songwriters, new album Resurgence is the perfect soundtrack to the gruesome plague era in which we all reside. That’s right, returning to the fold are vocalist Kam Lee (Mantas, Bone Gnawer) and original bassist Mike Borders. Joining them in their journey between space-time are: inhuman death metal machine Rogga Johansson (Megascavenger, Rib Spreader) on guitars, Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath) on guitars, Brynjar Helgetun
(Crypticus) on drums, and solo fiend Scott Fairfax (Memoriam, As the World Dies) on guitars. Normally, we’d call this profane configuration a ‘supergroup,’ but the Great Old Ones have spoken, hailing the new Massacre lineup a ‘stellargroup.’ With cosmic horrors reanimating and Resurgence emanating pure, unadulterated death metal, the Massacre principals couldn’t be more pleased. The six-piece have retained the nasty nebullic strength and aggression they invoked all those years ago on cult classic debut From Beyond (1991),
but multiplied Resurgence.

The band’s critically acclaimed debut album, «Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns,» opened the doors of the asylum in 2017, introducing the terrifying concept and gruesome characters within. Four years later and featuring 10 new tracks of powerful, cinematic and mesmerizing symphonic extreme metal, ZORNHEYM’s album picks up where they left off, inviting the listener on a distracting journey, straight into the depths of the asylum! Helheim Viking/Black Metal band from Norway released the eleventh Full-length album Woduridar on October 29, 2021. The harshness and extreme sounds of “WoduridaR”, is a return to the roots for the viking metal legends Helheim. The album is a result of a fusion between their former releases “LandawarijaR” and “Rignir”, and they’ve returned to the aggression one could hear on “LandawarijaR”. However, as “Rignir” presented something new and exciting

that the band enjoyed, a lot of the atmospheres, focus of melodies and the use of clean vocals is also a big part of the new album. “WoduridaR” is an Old Norse word, that can be translated to “the wild rider”. You can draw lines from that to Odins many names and meanings. For Helheim and their new album, all the songs are conceptual free from each other, and tells their own story. Fuelled by profound misanthropy and driven by humanity’s hunger for environmental and social decay, they forge the opus that truly is a sign of the times. “Anthems of Extinction”, was recorded in mid-2021. and

Bryan Eckermann Melodic Black/Death Metal band from United States released the eighth Full-length album Plague Bringers on November 5, 2021. Bryan’s latest effort is Plague Bringers, which serves as Part II to his 2018 concept album, Winters Plague (The Final Eclipse). Winters Plague (The Final Eclipse), or Part I, detailed an alien invasion of earth by blocking out the sun with a giant ship and freezing the planet in which humanity inevitably arises to defeat the aliens. Plague Bringers, or Part II, details the aftermath from the aliens’ perspective as they resurrect their long dead queen, clone an army, and escape their dying planet to enter earth once more. Using the power of a magic orb they open a portal through space, then hide in the darkness, manipulating humans’ minds to force mass suicides in their attempt
at revenge. The mission however is in itself a suicide mission without their ship anymore to block out the sun (which is their weakness), they know they will perish along with the humans, leaving earth as a mass grave of emptiness... «Tomorrow is a lie, we won’t survive» but revenge is sweet. Bornholm Black Metal band from Hungary released the fifth Full-length album Apotheosis on November 5, 2021. Apotheosis not only showcases BORNHOLM’s tonal development, but also goes back to the origins of the band’s history and the heavy, often almost doomy influences mixed with indispensable atmospherically dark and raw flavor. Accompanied by sinister sacral sounds of historic proportions and a hypnotizing, incantatory chant, intro track «»I Divine»» heralds the dark ride to nowhere. It is precisely in the void between Pagan and Black Metal that the sound finds its home, with tracks
140140
like “Spiritual Warfare” and “Black Shining Cloaks” - including its sinister, atmospheric intro “The Key to the Shaft of the Abyss”representing the mellowness and extremes of the band. The almost melodic borrowings and acoustic guitar inserts in combination with the pure rawness of “To the Fallen” and the hammering fast attacks of the track “I am War God” highlight the band’s variety and sonic progression. The title track “Apotheosis” is a slow, howling homage mixing aggressive, shrieking vocals and melodiously grim anecdotes. Album closer “Enthronement” closes the metaphorical and musical bracket and provides the 52-minute piece with a venerable, instrumental conclusion.

With the release of their 14th full length studio album No Sign Of Life on November 12 2021, the Death Metal pioneers that influenced a whole musical genre deliver another work of sheer brutality. Formed back in 1989 by Johnny Hedlund, UNLEASHED have been delivering supreme Death Metal in the sign of their Viking ancestors from day one! The Einherjar legions of Asgard transfer Viking values and traditions into modernity and forge another uncompromising musical weapon. The rage paves its way straight from the first notes of the album opener “The
King Lost His Crown” and leaves no time to breathe during the entire playing time. The album unfolds as an unstoppable war battalion and builds up on UNLEASHED’s well established trademark sounds and lyrics. Accompanied by shouts hailing Odin, heavy guitar riffs take no prisoners on “The Highest Ideal”, until the album finds a glorious end on “Here at the End of the World”. The Chief Vikings of Swedish Death Metal manage to play modern sounding old school Death Metal and leave no doubt that they are still true to their roots
after 32 years of existence. UNLEASHED are and stay the unchallenged leaders of Sweden’s Death Metal forefathers. Hail Odin! Tracklist 1. The King Lost His Crown 2. The Shepherd Has Left the Flock 3. Swallow the Sun Melodic Doom/Death Metal band from Finland released the eighth Fulllength album Moonflowers on November 19, 2021. At 52-minutes, Moonflowers is an eight-song affair that drives deep into the heart of Swallow The Sun main songwriter Juha Raivio’s disconsolate soul. From the dramatic “Enemy” and the grim “This House Has No Home” to the delicate “Moonflowers Bloom in Misery” and the beauteous “The Fight of Your Life,”
142 142
Moonflowers is as rewarding and dynamic as it is accomplished and intimate. That it features Cammie Gilbert (Oceans of Slumber), Antti Hyyrynen (Stam1na), and Trio NOX—who perform a rearranged classical version of Moonflowers in a Finnish church, which comes as a bonus album to some of the album formats—are more reasons to hold Swallow The Sun’s latest leap into the unknown in the highest regard.

Obscura Progressive/Technical Death Metal band from Germany released the sixth Full-length album A Valediction on November 19, 2021. Germany-based metal band OBSCURA launch trilogy concept on stunning new album “A Valediction”. The group’s first (sixth overall) album for Nuclear Blast pivots on many fronts. Advanced, elegant, and yet refreshing, “A Valediction” sums up past endeavors effortlessly as it gazes with purpose and conviction into the future. OBSCURA are fanrenowned and critically acclaimed for challenging and then expanding upon norms. From “Cosmogenesis” (2009) through “Diluvium” (2018), the band flourished and made significant progress in a musical genre unprepared for a creative shot of German invention. “A Valediction” spearheads OBSCURA into a new era of extreme metal. Lyrically, “A Valediction” is layered in structure and meaning. The word ‘valediction,’ by definition, deals with goodbyes and farewells. In a way, this is auf wiedersehen to the fourpart album series while also addressing complex
topics of Kummerer’s personal life. Instead of obscuring issues of loss, death, and abandonment in metaphor and allusion, the German laid bare his torment across songs like ‘Forsaken,’ ‘Solaris,’ ‘In Unity,’ ‘The Neuromancer,’ and ‘In Adversity.’ But for every line of desperation, he also offers positivity. Indeed, new beginnings—physical, emotional, or environmental—can provide light in the darkness. Tracklist 1. Forsaken 2. Solaris 3. A Valediction 4. When Stars Collide 5. In Unity 6. Exodus Thrash Metal band from United States released the eleventh Full-length album Persona Non Grata on November 19, 2021. When we think of the phrase Bonded By Blood, we think of two things: a brotherhood that is meant to outlast the trials of war, pain, and time... and the almighty EXODUS. With a bond forged in youth and decades-old friendship, the undisputed masters of thrash metal return with their eleventh studio album: PERSONA NON GRATA.

Literally translating to “an unwelcome” or “unacceptable” person, PERSONA NON GRATA touches on themes of modern societal disgust and degradation. “The people that disgust you cut ‘em out like cancer,” explains guitarist Gary Holt. “Who is that person? It could be anybody. That’s up to the listener. Who is ‘Persona Non Grata’ to them?”

Whoredom Rife Black Metal band from Norway released the third Full-length album Winds of Wrath on November 25, 2021. Epic and grandiose, melancholic and utterly aggressive; Winds of Wrath is truly a tumultuous ride to Hell and back. The album was written, recorded and performed by V.Einride, as always aided by vocalist K.R, whose vocal performance on this album is downright frightening. Rarely do one hear a vocalist spew forth hatred in such a convincing manner. Winds of Wrath is perhaps their most complete album to date in all regards, and features stunning performances by both members, as the band still to this day remains a

Hypocrisy Melodic Death Metal band from Sweden released the thirteenth Fulllength album Worship on November 26, 2021. With governments finally admitting that UFOs do in fact exist, and humanity attempting to heal from a state of recent crisis, the timing couldn’t be more appropriate for the newest addition to the HYPOCRISY catalog: WORSHIP. Aptly titled, the album cover shows a mass of humans reaching up mindlessly to the sky as glowing spaceships shaped like the HYPOCRISY crosses sigil beam down to descend upon earthen civilizations and Mayan temples.
146146
Designed by artist Blake Armstrong (Kataklysm, In Flames, Carnifex, etc.), WORSHIP’s artwork speaks to the history of the relationship between humanity and extraterrestrials. “They’re coming back to collect,” explains founder and HYPOCRISY mastermind Peter Tagtgren. It has been 8 long years since the last record, and HYPOCRISY fans can feel the itch. WORSHIP is 11 tracks of precise, ferocious musicianship. Commonly inspired by the fusion of the modern and the ancient, HYPOCRISY has once more found a way to combine innovative ideas with classic sound in order to deliver something metalheads can enjoyably consume with awe and brutal vigor.

Archgoat Black Metal band from Finland released the fifth Full-length album Worship the Eternal Darkness on November 26, 2021. 32 years after formation, Finnish iconoclasts ARCHGOAT stand monolithic as one of the most nightmarishly singular bands in extreme music. Helmed with preternatural telepathy by twin brothers Ritual Butcherer (guitars/composition) and Lord Angelslayer (bass/vocals), newest emission “Worship the Eternal Darkness” is a typically depraved set built to mock our contemporary malaise. Continuing on from preceding album “The Luciferian Crown” the hoofpressure is slightly alleviated from the throat, the band’s patented synthesis of occult Finnish Black/Death Metal, harsh Punk, primal Thrash and Grindcore is tempered here with elements of melodic dynamism: a
rhythmic crush less unrelenting, horrorshow vocals slightly more intelligible, a production shorn of murk highlighting potent synthsorcery and welcome NWOBHM influences, not least guitar solos of old-school finesse. Recorded over 2 days in foulest 2021 and clad-as-ever in immortal Chris Moyen artwork, “Worship the Eternal Darkness” has all the thematic unity, arcane knowledge, otherworldly class and divine filth expected from a legendary band stoking underground hellfire which burn stronger than ever. Ofermod Black/Death Metal band from Sweden released the fifth Full-length album Mysterium Iniquitatis on December 3, 2021. Formed back in the dark days of 1996, the band released their debut EP, Mystérion Tés Anomias, in 1998. Although a mere two songs, OFERMOD’s opening salvo sowed the seeds for the orthodox black metal movement that would begin to blossom in the new millennium. Crime and chaos followed mainman Belfagor everywhere he went, and the band’s momentum remained halted. However, OFERMOD eventually became a working entity again, starting with 2008’s Tiamtü full-length, and through magick and will did more recordings follow: Thaumiel (2012), the two-song Serpents’ Dance EP (2014), Sol Nox (2017), and the posthumous Pentagrammaton, originally intended to be
the band’s debut album. Each one put forth a pivotal piece of the everevolving puzzle of OFERMOD – ever the same, yet always different. The production – courtesy of Andersson at Endarker Studios – cuts like a gleaming knife and rusty axe simultaneously, the perfect iron-fisted complement to the band’s ever-surging and ceaselessly unfolding songwriting here. Special mention must be made of the male choirs on the opening title track – courtesy of Thomas Ericksson (Year of the Goat) and Lars Broddesson (exMARDUK)
– conveying a grandiosity beyond compare. Tracklist 1. Mysterium Iniquitatis 2. Inax Ya Lil 3. When the Blacksmith Killed the Shepherd 4. Arteria Uterina 5. Sacrosanctus 6. Poraios De Rejectis 7. Consecration 8. Loyal to Belial Lineup Belfagor - Guitars Nebiros - Vocals
