So this issue is kinda memory about better times. Nevertheless, we’re trying to stay positive and believe that this shit will go fukk itself soon. Stay strong, dudes. Soon we’ll rise from this hell. Devastatingly uncontestable, NILE’s technical ferocity shows utterly zero signs of diminishing with the new album Vile Nilotic Rites. Containing 11 songs that are as sharp as obsidian blades and as heavy as nine Nubian pyramids, the rulers have instilled a hammer blow of god-like heaviness. The time has surfaced to reacquaint diehard Australian fans with NILE’s saurian whirlwind and provocative funerary spells. Emanating from the UK, selfproclaimed Kings of Slam INGESTED are forcing their way into Australia for the very first time. With raw & aggressive gutturals, grooveladen guitar work, blistering drums, and slamming hooks, INGESTED continues to push the boundaries of international dominance in every direction both on record and live. Interview with Tim «Tetzel» Schmidt
Interview by Olga Schneider
- First of all, I must say thank you very much for the opportunity to
your new official video? Hello! It’s awesome for us, too.
The only sad thing is, that the Corona-Virus Crisis delays the release and

some shows are put on hold. Aside from that we feel great about the new album since we know it is our strongest yet!
So your band was founded in 2007, and the first demo was released already in 2008. That’s incredible fast for a new

German as well. What is that connected to? Honestly we try to keep things international but we know that so far our core
band! What inspired you most of all at that time and how did the history of Asenblut begin? Actually I (Tetzel) just wanted to play some music. I was a beginner guitarplayer and took some lessons with Claus Cleinkrieg... so we decided to do some re-

audience is from Germany or German speaking countries. The lyrics are in our native tongue because of the obvious strong connection to that and the aspiration to write good stories. It kind of feels a little more disconnected in English and in that way almost easier. 11

ing all this time? I mean sound, atmosphere, any concept and stuff like that. We talked about making it a concept album when we were very early in the process but in the end it did not become a coherent concept album. You just have some connecting elements for example in “Berserker” it was all about vindication/ self-assertion. “Die wilde Jagd” (The wild Hunt) is more about sharing stories and looking at the world a r o u n d , so it’s less selfcontained. The sound is a little different since we recorded with Jörg Uken (Suicidal Angels, God Dethroned...) this time instead of Seeb Levermann (Orden Ogan). We have heavy emphasize on the guitars and the vocals got stronger as well. - As the genre, you chose Blackened Thrash Metal... A wild and a little bit unusual mix. What bands inspired and still inspire you mostly?
We called our music blackened thrash in the very early days of the band but we feel we have evolved into Melodic Death Metal (with some thrash and black influences still). Even on the very first album we did not sound much like Destroyer666 or early Sodom... but certainly had more t h i n g s in common with modern Kreator and Iron Maiden and Annihilator. Nowadays we just try to advance the style of music we have and make people feel our vision of the songs. - Do you see any connection between Metal and sports? Can you assure that these two things give you some strengh for... Each other or something like that? Music gives you strength. It helps your through any emotional turmoil and especially if you want to lift heavy weights. Also sports
and lifting weights is good for you! Metalheads tend to let themselves go a lot... drink a lot of alcohol and don’t care much about their body. Partying of course is important and we don’t say noone should have a beer or seven
but there should be balance. - What would you decide if you should choose between Metal and sports? Or you’re one of those people for which these two things are impossible without each other? On a professional level I got to say I’d go for the music. For example, if I have a competition and a show to play I would usually go for the show ... but of course it’s not always that straight. I am
a professional athlete as well, so if the competition is very important (like a German or international championship) I would try to fit it in the schedule. In the end its just about planning ahead and really things don’t cancel each other out. - Do you plan any tours already to promote the new album? Yes! We will tour this autumn with Nachtblut in GER/AUT/Switzerland and have shows in Czech and Germany throughout the summer. (You can find the dates on our facebook.com/ asenblutband or www.asenblut.de) - Our last and traditional question. What would you like to say to those who’s reading this interview right now and to our edition crew? First of all, thank you for the interview! Thank you for reading it! Let’s meet at a show and make sure to follow our band on Instagram and Facebook to stay updated. Have fun with the music during workouts, parties, sex or whatever you like ;)

Infiltration• Death Metal from Saint-Petersburg•Russia
Interview with Pavel Vakhlakov
14
Interview by Evgeny Destroyer
- Infiltration is quite a young band, but while listening to ya tracks, it seems like you’ve already got some experience in Extreme Metal before. Tell us a little about each of the members: who is who, in what projects did you okay before and how did you end up all together in one band? Hey, bro! First of all, thanks for having me, it’s always an honor to be able to talk about what we do, to describe us basically, plus of course I’m very grateful to you for the given opportunity. So, here we go, yeah, like you’ve just said we are relatively new band, but everyone of us had been
playing in various bands prior the formation of Infiltration. The band itself was started by these two, immensely talented dudes, Andrew and Eugene, formerly of local Groove metal band “Free at Last”, so it makes sense to start
smart, very funny too! But also – he is one hell of a guitar player, very well rounded! Not only is he technically prominent, but also he is a true composer, who absolutely knows what he does when he grabs his guitar, who can make his instrument really shine, when it comes to riffing or soloing, his phonation is a top notch. I can’t stress enough just how freaken talented he is! Guys, just listen to this dude, really! And I always smile when I hear him playing! Prior to starting Infiltration, he was a guitarist for Free at Last.
r u o in s s u c is d e w s g The thin ality. e r in d e t o o r e r a s g n so with introducing them first! Our guitarist, Eugene – Well, I just love that guy!))) He is super nice, absolutely cool cat, he just has got that great vibe about him, that makes you want to be around. He is very
Beside our band he also played in Hellbomb (great black metal band) Our bass guitarist, Andrew – Whatever I have just said about Eugene I can repeat here, as it is absolutely fits with Andrew! The way he plays, the way he writes songs, the way he arranges riffs and rhythm patterns, you can tell he is a 100% pro. He just knows how to groove. I don’t think you can mimic it, it’s either in you or it is not. That guy has it and then some!!! But there is one very cool thing about Andrew, it is some kind of an instinct, he just knows what fits best for the song. When we were recording our new album, I noticed, how I would think like: “hmmm… ok I’m not sure if I nailed the part, should I try once more?” and the next thing I know Andrew goes: “I think we should try once again, you can do better than that…” He just has this “special ear”, you know?! Again, very tal-
ented bass and guitar player, super smart dude, has an incredible sense of humor, very cool to be around! Played bass in Free at Last and also sang there for quite sometime. Plus, he’s got a long hair, which automatically makes his stage presence hella known and, well, dominating!!!))) Our drummer, Alex Semenov – Well, some fellas need little presentation, as their impressive amount of works speak for themselves… It’s safe to say that Alex is one of the best drummers in Russia, very accurate, very precise, very hard hitting drummer, with just an incredible stage presence. I first saw and met Alex as early as 2006, when we (with my then band Abnormal) went to Moscow where we played with his then band Katalepsy! (Tolya if you happen to read these lines, then Hi, Cheers and Respect) love me some Katalepsy… but I digress... So back to Alex, he is experienced in both studio and live situations, played with bunch of bands such as aforementioned
Katalepsy (as a drummer), Perimeter (as a vocalist) – yeah, not only is he a splendid drummer, but also one hell of a vocalist too! He constantly involved with bunch of bands as a session musician, so guys keep in mind that! If you need a drummer, producer, vocal coach – contact Alex then! Naturally I love his playing as it sounds very catchy and he never let’s go of groove, even when he goes super-fast! He is just a joy to watch!!! By the way, check out his main band HELLBOMB these are some relentless dudes who play ferocious black metal!!! I just love to be around these mofos!!!) I also feel blessed to be able to play with them, it’s an honor and well, pure joy, really!!! Love these guys! All in all, all of us had known of each other a long before we started the band, as we would see every one of us playing here and there over the course of many years. We started playing in various local bands around the same time I suppose, circa the beginning of 2000s that is, but somehow we never had a chance to play together up until 2017!!! On how we got together: It actually happened during an odd show I did for a local band, where I was playing temporarily, and quite frankly wasn’t going to stay with them and it was my last show, which took place in one of our local clubs. 15
Infiltration• Death Metal from Saint-Petersburg•Russia
For whatever reason, Andrew and Eugene visited that gig and obviously saw me on the stage. After that show we had a very brief conversation, and I didn’t even think I’d see the guys for a n o t h er 5 or 6 years, you know?! ha ha… however, few weeks later, I received a phone call and a message from Andrew where he pretty much asked if I was interested in recording several songs with them… To be honest I was skeptical at first, as I had just quit that band and wanted to concentrate on my main band at the time (Chamber of torture that is) because it was the band that i started as early as 2004 and was sole original member and I always felt a huge responsibility for it, however as of 2020 we are disbanded, to my chagrin… but I digress as usual. So I originally didn’t plan to have another band, but I agreed to listen to what the guys had written, for I’d known that they had a lot of talent! Well... little did I know back 16
then… HOLY FUCK!!!! I remember playing what eventually became our title song “nuclear strike warning” and
immediately thought: “this is the best shit I’d heard in ages” barrage of killer riffs, fat as fuck grooves… needless to say I was hooked. I pretty much started to write lyrics to those four tunes instantly. Funny thing is that lyrically I wanted to cover the whole range of social topics from wars to any other form of social injustice… and when I was about to say that it wasn’t going to be “your typical, gore and Satan kind of stuff” Andrew beat me to a minute when he called and said, that lyrically, they didn’t t want typical brutal content… talking about instincts... Now don’t get me wrong it doesn’t mean that social ills ar-
en’t brutal or anything, in fact I opine it’s quite opposite, cos the things we discuss in our songs are rooted in reality unlike superficial and grotesque brutal stories, which are cool as well of c o u r s e . So to cut a long story short, the straight standing hair on my hands was a good enough indicator, that we should give it a go! -It’s very remarkable that Death Metal from 90’s influenced you very much. What can you say about this? What Death monsters had the strongest impact on you? Oh it easy! We all grew up on western heavy music and I believe that 90 was the pinnacle of musical prosperity! everything from Thrash, to Death, to newer genres such as groove, then punk, hard core. Here I can speak for myself but I grew up mainly on New York Hard Core, Hip-Hop and first wave of New metal, then I added a vast portion of Death Metal. As for the other guys it is everything from Black metal to
classic hard n heavy stuff. This is what I assume, influenced everyone of us and that what everyone of us brings to the table, when it comes to writing. As for the band, well in general, I think its Napalm Death (especially Colin Richardson phase as I call it) 90-98, Pantera (of course), Bolt Thrower and Obituary (cos nobody grooves like these two bands do), Slayer (because they are the best band ever, period) Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Vomitory, and just about anything that s catchy, groovy and has a memorable riffs in it. Yeah, these are our main influences -Are there several variations to translate the name of the band? How do you see it and what does it mean for you? It was Andrew who found that term in one those books dedicated to military operations and warfare or something. So he knows the true meaning behind the moniker ha ha... But I would say this, as we are grown enough and I hope sufficiently experienced to make it big, so to me Infiltration bears somewhat prophetic meaning as we basi-
cally ready to INFILTRATE the bigger stages, and not only within our own country but also beyond! The way I see it, is that these guys Alex, Eugene, Andrew they deserve to be heard, they are hella talented and we work our asses off just to be worth of listening, refer-
ring to, being a fan of, kind of a band. Also we always respect people who come out and support us during our life shows, so you can say that we also INFILTRATE your minds and hearts with our charm, ha ha!) -At the end of January, you shared the stage with the British band Ingested, which performed in St. Petersburg as part of a world tour. What was it like to share a scene with such band? It was great, really! First of all, I’d like to thank Ilya Rytov
who offered us a gig. But mostly we just love playing live, I don’t think you can ever substitute this feeling when you see a crowd going insane, in front of you, it’s so cool to see how your song sends a spark of electricity into the crowd and how this very energy goes back at you!!! Man it was awesome! Then of course, Ingested, super nice fellas, very laid back, very cool. Kudos to Jason for the CD))) -I would also like to dwell on your performance with Napalm Death at the end of September last year. I think that it was unrealistic to play on the same stage with such monsters. Share your impressions. Precisely! This is one of those bands, one of a kind really! I fail to name any extreme band who wasn’t influenced by these forefathers of extreme metal. Yeah it was great! But also, again, because we are all fairly seasoned musicians if I may say so, we didn’t exactly loose our heads, acting out on emotions (you know, cos you’re standing 10 meters away from the legends, it’s such a major wow effect), but rather took matters seriously cos we knew that the band 17
Infiltration• Death Metal from Saint-Petersburg•Russia
we are honest, it’s kinda felt I guess, and all these guys and girls weren’t let down with us as an opening act -You’ve played lots of concerts for so many
that I can’t even tell you which one of my performances sucks more, ha ha… I just can’t sit and relax and pick the good one, I’m way too biased when it comes to my part…)) - You didn’t release any full-length album yet. Are there any plans about it? It is already, recorded, mixed and mastered! It will be out this year, this much I can tell you!!! But what I can also tell you is
tdiena club alongside Deformity, Iron Wings and Heaven Grey. KILLER time, awesome people, great venue, hands down one of our best gigs. On noticed. And I think the fact the other hand - I am VERY that we play from our hearts, critical of myself, to the point
that we put all of our hearts, souls, blood, sweat and tears into it, and trust me, what we came up with is just the finest piece of death metal from Russia! Just give it a listen when it comes out! We took all of our influences, added our own talents and ideas put it all through blender and cast out a sound equivalent of the slab of concrete - What are your plans for the future? Will it be possible to participate in open air next summer, performances
was quite tired from then prolonged touring and we acted accordingly, you know, like: “Ok, we gotta play to our best capabilities, so that we could warm up the crowd in a proper way” … I believe we did just that. Again thanks a lot to promoters and people who actually came to see us too! Because it’s so important to the opening band to get
years. Which one do you consider the best and which one the worst? Oh… hmmm. Well I absolutely loved our gig in Riga last may at Melna Piek-
in clubs with someone brutal, or conclude a contract with a record company (label) to promote your future album? Well, we’re pretty much working on just about everything you have just recapitulated ha ha! Yeah, you said it best man! - How do you see the development of extreme metal scenes in our country? Now the alternative movement and metalcore movement is gaining popularity and the situation is not only in our country, but throughout the world. What should such brutal teams like Infiltration do to keep it all and continue to delight fans of Death metal? I think that Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash metal, Hard core, crossover, punk rock, doom metal, sludge… are here to stay no matter what! I also think that it is to our advantage that we are in a minority, cos I think these aforementioned pure styles of extreme music are only for those of pure views if you will. That actually makes these genres and bands more valuable. Besides, today when everybody so “modern, proggy, djent oriented, core this-core that” it is US old school metal bands who actually stand
out! Musicians and fans alike are allergic to anything water downed and that keeps these styles very raw and very pure but with fewer listeners. While I’m at it, I must add that I’ve nothing against Metalcore, alternative metal and the likes, in fact I’m a big fan of these more modern styles of music, and I listen to it a lot, it’s just that I love to express myself
through a rawer music I guess. -Which of the Russian bands are worth to pay attention? Who do you think is worthy of the attention of both local and foreign metalheads? There are so many, man! Right of the bat: my bros in PYRE, HELLBOMB, BUICIDE, GRAVE DISGRACE, STUBBORN, WOMBRIPPER, GROND… man there’s a lot of more obscure but as awesome bands as well, DAMP-
NESS for example or NEVA -From the editorial board of Inside the Darkness magazine, I wish your band success and more good, brutal albums. Be aggressive and evil, and carry metal to the masses. At the end of our interview, our traditional question is your wishes to those who are reading this interview. Guys n Girls if you read this: We thank YOU for YOUR time, thank YOU for YOUR support, and we absolutely do it for YOU. Music has always been that magical instrument that could bring people together, that could get you through the tough times and essentially be a soundtrack to your life. I remember how every time when my favorite band released an album be it Cannibal Corpse, Slayer or whatever – I d always felt HAPPY despite the fact that it is some heavy and aggressive sounding music, I believe it bears such a strong positive energy! I wish you guys to be happy and with that in mind we dedicated our new album to YOU!!! Cheers Paul and INFILTRATION
Endeathed - Black Metal from Colombia
Interview with Grinder Sick
Interview by Evgeny Destroyer
- Endeathed formed only a couple of years ago, but looks quite professional, both in terms of music and band’s members. There’s very little information about your band. Tell our readers about Endeathed: when and where was formed, who is who in the band, what goals you pursue, and so on. Endeathed is an idea that has been going around my head for a long time, but that only two years ago became reality. I found by chance the right people to form the band: Cr6ne the Bass, Podrum the drummer and “Y” the vocals.
Both had been making metal in our country for years. Endeathed is exclusively Black metal, our lyrics talk about the occult, blasphemy, hate, misanthropy. Although it started in Bogotá, we are now in Europe. - You ‘ve already released one an EP “A Deafening Void” in 2018 and a single “Seven” in 2019. When is the release of the debut fulllength album planned?
We have been working in the EP for a long time. It will be finished at the end of this 2020, there are 9 songs, recorded, mixed and mastered in Europe, in this moment we are just looking for a European label to print. - For the short history, Endeathed performed on the same stage with many bands both local and foreign bands. Your band had quite a few live shows in general, from which I can conclude that you like to perform on stage in front of a crowd of metalheads. Tell us about your feelings during such performances.
Long live for Black Metal and his people around the world
20
Disclose the details of the forthcoming album, If it possible.
That is our really passion. Each show is unique for us, the experience also, when you can play with great bands your live change, your point of view change. I can tell you some names like ACHERONTAS, it was a great experience, it is an honor to play for those who take the time to listen to our music and Black Metal. - And which of your shows you could highlight among others, and why exactly this or these concerts do you consider the best in your career?
The most important show was our debut for the launch of our EP “A deafening void”,
we were eager to give everything on the stage and get each note to each of the attendees, it was a great night, we managed to expose with height our music. - What affects you like a musician? What is your favourite bands, your hobby? Black metal is the most honest way to express myself. And many of those bands have been a voice that accompanies me, I could tell you to name you Immolation, D i s s e c t i o n , Dawn (Sweden), Impetigo, Namelles (col), YGG (Ukraine), S a c r a m e n t u m , Infernal Dominion...

Endeathed - Black Metal from Colombia 22
About my hobbies there is nothing weird, meet new places, watch a S o c c e r game, drink a couple beer, share with my girl and with my friends. What helps you get distracted when you ‘re in a bad mood? I would really find an answer for that. Lol. I get angry easily, I was previously distracted by fighting or doing some physical activity, I haven’t done it for a long time. Now I prefer to play the guitar. - What is your favorite instrument and why your choice fell on it? Well. I always liked the Guitar, I chose it because in 94 or 95 I spent nights listening to a great friend playing, He can say incredible things with this instrument, we lived special moments ... it is also a good instrument to compose, I manage to take my feelings to the strings and turn
it music, I do it in the most visceral way, I don’t think about techniques. - As I know, extreme metal is very developed in Latin America. Colombia is no exception, on the
contrary, there is a huge number of fests and open airs. Tell me, why in your regions is such an interest to brutal bands? W e l l , Colombia is one of the countries with the best audiences in Latin America, in addition there are many bands and more are still being born. I think that metal tradition speaks of our rage for so much violence, inequality,
chaos, daily deaths, tea makes you have enough reasons to express hate. Today there is a different sense. There is a lot of crap in the head and the new bands don’t broadcast much, they just want to compete. They are not all but the majority. And that competitive feeling makes more “musicians” than public. - Which of the local bands in your opinion are worthy of respect and which of them can be distinguished among others? Colombia has many bands, many. I know all off them because I have dedicated myself to it. My cult bands are ... NAMELESS, MASACRE, G U T G R I N D E R , B L O O D H Y M N S , DEEP SILENCE, SUPPURATION, INFO, LAMENTACIONES, DANTALIAN, INFERNAL, ESBBAT, ASBEL, ENTER HELL, GUERRA TOTAL, NONSENSE P R E M O N I T I O N , INTERNAL SUFFERING, GOC lots more...
- I would like to wish Endeathed and you personally creative longevity, many good albums and more devoted fans. And at the end of our conversation the traditional question: what is your wishes to all those who read this interview right now. Our Band gives deep thanks to you and the Darkness for giving for give us this space. It is an honor for us. For those who read this interview, I hope they can listen to our music and follow us on our social networks; there we post everything
about our events. Long live for Black Metal and his people around the world. Grindersick (guitar).

Necrophobic - Death/Black Metal from Sweden
Interview with Joakim Sterner
24
Interview by Olga Schneider
First of all, we’d like to say thank you for the opportunity to do this interview with you! How is the band feeling at the moment? Joakim: Hi! We are rehearsing for upcoming shows and the nearest show right now is in London (UK) in two weeks from now. Necrophobic was founded 3 decades ago, and of course you’ve grown up incredibly much musical-
ly, but at the same time, atmosphere of your music doesn’t change from album to album,
Joakim: We, to start with, other bands maybe want to experiment more or make a bigger progression. It can also be so that they can’t or are able to keep the high level of creating music. I can only speak for us. We are all fanatic metal people, that started to listen to heavy metal in the very early 80’s.
s, g n o s w e n is m u A new alb at it is h t r a e h l il w u o y but Necrophobic. it’s still cold and full of hate. Not many bands can keep like this actually... What’s your main secret?
We were very young and got a lot of impressions from the magazines and TVshows that wrote about metal or included metal in their TVshows. We were a bunch of people that wanted to do it ourselves and later on in the 80’s started to play the instruments. With this shortly explained, we were quite early determined on how we wanted to look, image wise and how we wanted to sound. From the very beginning we, of course, gory as Iron Maiden or let’s wasn’t near that vision, but say W.A.S.P., we are sort of with every song and record- those bands but in Black/ ing, we took steps in the Death Metal. Besides your members of course... Joakim: Our live p e r f o r mances. We work hard to improve our performances and are very self critical. We watch ourselves on video clips that fans put online and discuss what we did great and what we can improve or just get new ideas to improve. We just don’t want to go up on stage and play. We want the audience to get more out of our shows. Involve them as much as possible. 25
Necrophobic - Death/Black Metal from Sweden 26
Along the way, we have also joined otherwise, haha. It got a better self confidence. may sound hard or that I am We have been doing this for a total dictator, but that’s not many many years now and really the case. Yeah, you’re one of are the ones that is a memthose bands who changed ber of this band today. Othlots of members, what, however, didn’t destroy Necrophobic as it happens to many bands nowadays. What are the most important things for you as for the founder in your potential members, besides their skills? Joakim: I think another member of the band should answer that question, but I guess I’m really stubborn and purposeful. I go into the smallest details that can make the difference from being just ”OK” to be the ”best solution” instead. The members that has come into the band as ”new” has to ”learn” this mindset and fully want it to become a member. Lazy fucks will be out quicker than they
er members that have been in this band before have also been like that. They have had to leave because of other stuff. The name of your band is inspired by the Slayer’s song with the same name. Why did you choose this one? Some personal meaning or maybe an epic story connected to that? Joakim: There is no epic story behind it. The person I formed this band with (David Parland) came up with the name one day in the late 80’s and the other of us agreed. Your band had been born just before the time when such a phenomenon as Swedish Melodic Death Metal was born as well and started developing so actively. On the other hand, that time brought us so many great Old School Death Metal bands. What was the main power then and what is the main power nowadays when it’s about Swedish Metal scene in your opinion?
Joakim: When we formed I guess the Swedish scene is this band, this genre (Death still like that, but with difMetal) was something real- ferent tools and ways to do ly new. There was so much it. You can say what you happening and developing w a n t , with bands and und e r ground f a n zines that was p o p ping up all over the world and especially here in Stockholm and Sweden in general. Interview by Evgeny Destroyer
- Fedra it’s the first black metal band from Colombia and South America formed only by women and it’s honor for me to make the interview with you. Let’s talk about it. She is a sucubu, She punishes men through dreams, wraps them up and tortures them. The name was the idea in the beginning of a friend named Dario. - The Topics of FEDRA are occultism, profanity, death and black magic. Yathur-ea/ Aghori: Well, times are altered by changes in lineup, personal issues and let’s be honest, releasing a record is not economical, we already have new material, we hope to press soon and bring this new production to all of you. - I would like to talk on The Gates of Hell. I noticed one interesting detail: the tracks alternate in English and Spanish. Why did you decide to record the album in this vein? Yathur-ea/ Aghori: We don’t leave the spanish aside as it is a way of connecting with the spanish speaking public, interpreting songs in English allows the band to expand internationally, opens horizons but spanish is equally important. 29

exploring since dropping their debut full-length in 2010, Towards The Blaze Of Perdition. Lyrically, the record is at least in part a continuation of the topics explored on Conscious Darkness, taking the listener into dark and complex territory that is the equal of the musical accompaniment.

My Dying Bride Doom Metal band from United Kingdom released the fourteenth Full-length album The Ghost of Orion released March 6, 2020. Taking time away from My Dying Bride, Vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe retreated to be with his daughter stricken with cancer, who fortunately took a positive turn, thus resulting in his return. Replete with an excellent Eliran Kantor (FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, EX DEO) cover art—commissioned by Stainthorpe—and sporting 11 tracks, The Ghost of Orion posits MY DYING BRIDE back on the proverbial doomdeath throne. they’ve never sounded better. From the doleful lay in ‘Your Broken Shore’ and the deathly traditional ‘A Secret Kiss’ to the grim 10-minute epic ‘The Old Earth,’ »The Ghost of Orion« is the product of a vibrantly creative band unwilling to rest on their laurels or past glories. “The Ghost of Orion” is a warmly welcomed addition to the band’s discography, since it considers every igredient that makes My Dying Bride such an epic band. Misery, sorrow, despair and some really memorable, heavy riffs are the stand-outs for “Ghost of Orion”.

Burzum Black Metal, Ambient band from Norway released the thirteenth Fulllength album Thulêan Mysteries on March 13, 2020. In 1991, when Satanel disbanded, Vikernes revived his solo project, changing the name to Burzum (which translates to «darkness» in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Black Speech, which is spoken by orcs and other creatures of Mordor). Handling all instruments and vocals by himself, he recorded Burzum’s first four full-length albums in a span of just over one year. Although Vikernes officially ended Burzum in 2018, in October 2019 he announced that he will be releasing a new full-length album tentatively titled Thulean Mysteries at some point in the near future. The release is intended to be used as background music while playing his MYFAROG tabletop role-playing game. «Thulêan Mysteries was made passively, in the sense that I never intended to make a new album; I just made music

every now and then and at one point realized that I actually had enough to release it all on an album. When asked to do so I figured: why not? It was a good idea. The music is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, transcending any genre, and perhaps belonging to many different genres. The intention with it was always to create a certain atmosphere, often related to an idea or a situation. Since my true passion has never been music, but actually tabletop roleplaying games, I figured I should make this an album intended for that use; as background music for my own MYFAROG (Mythic Fantasy Role-playing Game). Hopefully you will get a sense of Thulê when you listen to this, like always with Burzum, ideally when on your own. I hope you will enjoy this soundtrack to Thulê, to Mother Nature and life itself» – Varg Vikernes Lineup Varg Vikernes - Everything

Scalpture Death Metal band from Germany released the second Full-length album Eisenzeit on February 21, 2020. Emerging from the wider surrounding of death dealers Evoked in the industrial juggernaut of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany, Scalpture turn out to be a surprisingly individual take on true-and-tested genre formulas. While the members were doubtlessly raised on a diet of Bolt Thrower with two big spoons of Dutch and American fare respectively, it’s clear from the outset that Scalpture’s second full-length is its very own beast. As a musical narrative unfolding during the ravages of World War I, “Eisenzeit” (“iron age”) does not once plumply glorify armed conflict and heroic violence but displays a peculiar depth. Whereas compositionally, it focuses on atmosphere first and foremost with mini epics such as the two-partite ‘The Storm Ebbs into Stalemate’ or the chillingly
melodious ‘Yperite’, frontman Thorsten seems to tear his heart out as if during his history studies, he’d been forced to relive the soldiers’ pain. At the very least, he makes his cautionary tales frightfully topical; just listen to the hymnic elegy that is ‘Hinterlandsymphonie’, the dramatic closer ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ and, in particular, the blasting inferno of ‘Und Ehre ist’s’ (“and it’s honour), which subtly questions the morals of yore – an era from which we apparently fail to lean to this very day. Add to this highly emotional mix a monstrously powerful yet crystalline sound devoid of any shallow “vintage” references, and you can be sure that Scalpture are going to actively shape the future … however militant it might become.

Nowadays, when damn corona talks and of course it touches our community as well, it feels like it was so long ago, even if just one month has passed since that day... It was last day of February 2020 when Melechesh played their very first concert in Russia for all the time of their existence. They planned to come here back in 2016 with Nile and Belphegor, bur due to the circumstances, their plan was broken. And

from Melechesh that it felt like the promoters just took some random bands and put them into the lineup just to create some action. However, that’s not the most important
moment, so... Who gives a fukk actually? So... Melechesh took the stage 100% at the scheduled time, and that was kinda pleasant bonus, knowing what usually happens with show timing here. It felt at once like the audience kinda resurrected, so hell began. Yeah, the dudes didn’t need any special time to make the audience alive, they have absolutely great contact with ut and keep it during
now, after 4 years, they finally come to Moscow. All this action looked rather like some old friends’ event. I don’t wanna talk that much about support bands, their music is so far 61 61

the whole set. Despite the fact that Ashmedi turned out to be sick, it didn’t interrupt him to put all his energy into this process. And, maybe that’s my personal fetish, but kinda mathematical order in music is some special kind of art. Everything is clearly built and defined, no deviations.

Following the good old tradition, the musicians left backstage area after the show and came to the audience. Great people without attempts to seem to be some «rock stars». Now, looking forward to the moment when all this situation with corona goes and fukks itself. Keep strong out there!

Friday, Dec 27/ 2019, we attended which would be the last 2019’s appointment: Asesino’s returning to Colombia (for the first time in Bogota), in the middle a party plenty of brutal sounds, guttural voices, friends, and lots of beer. This was likely to be a a luxury party which started with Holy Shit B.S.E (Bogotá-Colombia) performance. Raw and explicit grindcore. High strenght and power live.

. It was then the time to receive Cuentos de los Hermanos Grind (Bogotá-Colombia), a band that just arrived from a succesful tour in Mexico including their presentation at the Mexico Metal Fest 2019 tol Ace of Spades stage with their satiric and enjoyable, colorful and explosive onstage performance. The next turn was to the trio led by the metal legend Dino Cazares (El Asesino) who, together with Tony Campos (Maldito X) and Emilio Márquez (El Sadístico) conform the band Asesino. What we saw onstage was an energic presentation led by the deep voice of Maldito, which, added to the powerful bass sound of Cazares and the drums of Sadístico bring an explosive mix of dark lyrics to enjoy la chingada.
Closing this tremendous portfolio of bands, we had the presentation of Visceral 666 (Bogota – Colombia) who continued the brutal discharge of death and grindcore that we enjoyed that Friday’s night. The one last thing to say to Broken Tattoo Music staff is congrats and thanks again for being confident in what we do.

After some very difficult days globally and in a very tense environment due to some restrictive measures that were revealed at the weekend, faceless men appeared for the first time in our country. As part of the “Age of Excuses 2020” tour, Mgła made a short tour of Colombia, including shows in Cali,
Medellín and its closure in Bogotá on March 15 at Ace of Spades, a show that without thinking at the time, both band and assistants, would become their last concert in a few months, while the measures of confinement by the #CoronaVirus globally end.

The Chilean Sol Sistere, accompanied Mgła during their passage in the country. They took the stage minutes ahead of schedule and it would be «Death Knell» from their work «Unfading Incorpoporeal Vacuum» the introduction to about 40 minutes of atmospheric black metal; Sol Sistere would have prepared a setlist with 6 tracks, among them «Sight of the Oracle», «The Faceless», «Swallow The Misery» and «Relentless Ascension» with which they would give way to Mgła.

Mgła reached to touch in Brazil Argentina, Chile and Ecuador; however, the closure of the tour in Mexico had to be postponed due to the border closure decreed hours before its presentation in Bogotá. Due to the above, Bogotá has been the last place in which the Polish black metal group was present. The show, about an hour and a half long, included nine tracks emphasizing the 2015 LP «Exercises in Futility» with «Exercises in Futility I» and «Exercises in Futility IV» introducing this rite. We listen to songs like «Mdłości II» or the most recent production «Age of Excuse II» and «Age of Excuse III». would end his visit to South America with the themes «Exercises in Futility VI» and «Exercises in Futility V» and would give way to an «epic» return to their country of origin, since at that time, most European countries had with high restrictive measures for the movement of people and containment at its air and land borders.

An event that was held thanks to the organizers Colombian Shows, perhaps the last great metal event in the capital and why not in the world for some months, time still uncertain for all, since with the intention of mitigating the impact on the contagion of COVID-19, has given way to restrictive measures such as the limitation of people conglomerated or gathered in the same place or the closure of bars, cinemas and other places of social group, quarantines, curfews, dry or liquor-free law, among many other measures…. Finally, it only remains to say: #FuckCoronaVirus # FuckCovid19.

paintings on stands covered in silk cloths, and a full size coffin. The stage wasn’t that big and I was genuinely wondering where on earth the band members were going to stand. As the lights went down we firstly witness the candle lighting ceremony and eventually all the band members crept onto the stage and found their allotted spot to stand, albeit some of them almost standing in the wings or hidden at the back. Eventually we got to hear the pretty amazing sound that Batushka create.
Batushka : The Dome – London, 3 March 2020 Having already seen Krysiuk’s Batushka at last summer’s festivals, I has been very much looking forward to seeing the Krzysztof Drabikowski Batushka and deliberately hadn’t done any research into what I might expect from their stage performance so to keep alive the element of surprise and excitement. I was specifically interested in seeing how similar or different they might be to Krysiuk’s version. The Dome was sold out which was encouraging. Normally there is a bit of a boring wait in-between bands but tonight it was like watching someone move house as all sorts of artefacts were carried onto the stage and carefully positioned. In addition to all the usual kit, I counted 3 stands full of long thin candles,

The set-list is predominantly from the Panihida album. The vocals are specifically prominent as we have lead vocals and I counted 3 backing vocalists (with h y m n books) adding a choir effect to emphasise the lead v o c a l s . W i t h all lyrics sung in the Old Church Slavonic language there is little point in trying to listen to understand any words but more a case (as with most Black Metal) of absorbing them as you take in the whole feel of the music.

I noticed the 7 and 8 stringed guitars and they do make a fantastic sound and blend in well with all the different high pitched vocal ranges. I’d love to comment on the
drummer but he was stuck at the back in darkness which is a shame as being a drummer myself I like to be able to watch them play, but tonight, with s o many people on stage and all the props, he appeared a l m o s t irrelevant. It is quite a spectacle watching Batushka perform. All band members are dressed in hooded religious Habits, faces covered, and no spoken word other than the vocals. Although they are pretty motionless on stage, it sort of adds to the mysterious feel of it all.
With all the candles flickering, a dark spindly tree backdrop and of course the big coffin in amongst it all, you do genuinely feel part of this ceremony that is being performed in front of you. I do have to add though that there were times when I would lose concentration as the moshers who were clearly there for support

band Malevonent Creation were intent on continuing with the moshing even though there was barely anything from Batuska to really drive this. So after an hour the set closes, the band bow their heads and they slowly make their way from stage. All except one, who had the lengthy job of putting out all the candles one by one and then handed them out to the audience, which makes a difference from plectrums and drumsticks I guess. So going back to my original thoughts and expectations of Drabikowski’s B a t u s h k a . Well the whole performance, or should I say
ceremony was almost identical to when I saw Krysiuk’s Batushka. I originally thought this to be a bit disappointing but when I reflect back on it I guess why should Drabikowski change things to be different when it was concept in the first place. A shame we only had an hour of Batushka, but then again, their album catalogue is small and not particularly diverse so it probably wasn’t necessary to have it drawn out just to fill in time.

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult & Stahlsarg: Nambucca
London – 14 March 2020 English band Stahlsarg caught my eye last year when supporting Djevel so it was great to see them added to the bill. Stahlsarg play Blackend Death
Metal and their set-list comprised mostly of tracks from their most recent album ‘Mechanisms o f Misanthropy’. Their music is influenced by World War II and you will have occasions where the vocals briefly change to spoken word to help tell a battle story. New bassist Kevin on his first gig with the band was very lively, playing with energy and p a s s i o n . It’s been three years now since any new music was released by Stahlsarg so I’m hoping we get to see some new material soon, and with that, plenty more gigs. Nambucca was sold out for the UK exclusive of
Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult and many people had
travelled a significant distance to be at the venue tonight to witness this anticipated ritual. Dressed from head to toe in white and carrying a large inverted cross, lead vocalist and guitarist

O n i e l a r slowly steps onto the stage, raises the cross in the air and bows down in front of it. With this, we get a snare drum roll and the band launch into ‘Mardom - Echo Zmory’ from their recent album ‘Mardom’. After a couple more tracks, Onielar removes her white headdress to reveal her corpse-painted face and long blond hair that stretches way down her back. Much of the set-list

consists of tracks from ‘Mardom’ and the previous 2013 album ‘Necrovision’. In-between each track the band members fill their mouths with pigs blood, which subsequently seeps out while they play and Onielar sings. The thick red blood covers their chins and
drips onto the floor. I now know why the monitors had been covered in clingfilm. Gradually Onielar’s long dress changes from stark white to different shades of red as it becomes more and more stained in blood. There’s something about Darkened N o c t u r n Slaughtercult live that really draws you in. It’s difficult to take your eyes off of Onielar who is so visually engaging and the intense sound they make is totally

absorbing. What also helped was a full venue, and with the knowledge that this could be one of the last London gigs for quite a while due to the Corvoid-19 virus I think everyone was a little more determined to make the most of it tonight. Finishing the set with ‘Bearer of the Blackest Might’, Onielar closes the ritual by once again raising the inverted cross into the air and bowing before it. The band leave a blood stained stage and it’s quite a sombre thought that we all really have no idea when any bands from abroad will be able to come and play in London again.

It has been a long eight year stretch between releases for Umeå, Sweden’s black metal nihilists NAGLFAR, but despite the eight year wait, the band hasn’t been resting on their laurels. Like any slumbering beast, NAGLFAR have returned from their respite ferocious and hungry with their seventh full length album “Cerecloth” which is due for a worldwide release on May 8th, 2020. Recorded and mixed by NAGLFAR guitarist Marcus Norman at Wolf ’s Lair Studio, and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound, the underlying musical and lyrical themes of “Cerecloth” were succinctly and confidently described by guitarist Andreas Nilsson: “The usual death and destruction.” Lineup Kristoffer W. Olivius - Vocals Andreas Nilsson - Guitars Marcus E. Norman - Guitars «Cerecloth» will be released on May 8, 2020.
«Solitude In Madness», the 16th album by polands death metal legends VADER is out May 1st, 2020 Piotr Wiwczarek commented about the album and its title: «Humanity never learns from its lessons. I feel tensions continuing to rise around the world. People have forgotten about true pain, from a bigger picture standpoint. Generationally, the new generation doesn’t respect the old, and I’d challenge they don’t even respect themselves. Our everyday lives are on TV, so there’s no soul left. Everything’s empty. I think technology is also sucking the human out of us. There are more lonely people now than ever before, and yet we’re supposed to be connected together by technology. It’s madness! That’s where the title, ‘Solitude In Madness’, came from, actually. Of course, I approach these topics in a very VADER way. I love telling stories and expressing myself through those stories.“ Lineup Peter - Bass, Guitars, Vocals Spider - Guitars Hal - Bass James Stewart - Drums Will be released on May 1, 2020.
Amalgamating a wide range of musical forms and concepts, on their third studio album Sojourner outlines a captivating soundscape, gradually unfolding into a musically unpredictable ode to the unknown. Premonitions is in this sense not only a masterfully told story, but much more a milestone confirming the group’s unique approach towards the genre! Lineup: Emilio Crespo - Vocals Mike Lamb - Guitars, Piano, Synth/Keyboards Chloe Bray - Guitars, Tin Whistle, Vocals Mike Wilson - Bass Scotty Lodge - Bass (Live) Riccardo Floridia - Drums “Premonitions” will be released on May 8, 2020.
In a comment that encompasses everything from working on the album, to musical expectations and lyrical themes, the band had this to say: «Nihilistic Estrangement is our tenth album and it opens a new chapter of the band and possibly a new trilogy, therefore it sounds different from our previous release, which closed the past trilogy. The whole idea and concept behind the album was to make something detached from all the current trends in terms of style and production so that it would feel timeless and not chained to a particular frame in time. I chose specific vintage microphones from the 60s/70s for the studio sessions and mostly played on early 80s instruments, as well as using both analog tapes and mixing desk. It was pretty much recorded like an old album from 40 years ago or such. I pretty much wanted to make something that was removed from the current state of music and the standardized productions that get churned out daily. Musically speaking there are references to all of the band’s eras but it sounds very refreshing and extremely personal; it’s 100% Forgotten Tomb. The lyrics deal with several different themes but the main focus is about reaching a mental estrangement from the modern world; it’s about refusing to partake in the current state of things and finding solace in a inner world of my own where no one can enter. I’d say the lyrics and concepts on this album are extremely misanthropic, even if it’s a term that got thrown around so much over the years that it kinda lost its real meaning». Nihilistic Estrangement will be released on May 8, 2020.
The time has arrived for TESTAMENT to unleash new thunder to the masses and reveal their thirteenth studio album: Titans Of Creation. Just as the elements of this planet thrive within all living creatures, each musician in TESTAMENT represents a necessary component of this latest musical endeavour. Still filled with a massive and unstoppable energy since their last release, TESTAMENT has taken their style to the next level and present an album that is loyal to the roots of traditional thrash metal while still bringing alluring, brilliant, and progressive ingredients to the table. Bass is showcased, new vocals are introduced, and as expected, the guitarwork of Peterson and Skolnick is greatly complex and mesmerizing. TESTAMENT’s process of creation has evolved and progressed yet they’ve remained steadfast over the course of literal decades. While always managing to present the genuine aspects of thrash metal that solidify their existence, they spread into unique horizons through developing crisp and fascinating sounds. Titans Of Creation will be released on April 3, 2020.
