SABAH Sabah the ‘land below the wind’ is located on the island of Borneo, alongside Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan in Indonesia. Surrounded by the South China Sea in the west, Sulu Sea in the northeast and Celebes Sea in the southeast, making it a place bountifully blessed with an amazing nature and wildlife, gorgeous beaches, and a diverse marine life. Sabah is perhaps best known as home to the iconic Mount Kinabalu—the highest peak in Southeast Asia. Sabah is also home to some of the lushest jungles on Borneo, such as Danum Valley and Maliau Basin—the Lost World of Borneo. Many wildlife species like the orangutan, the proboscis monkey, and the Bornean pygmy elephant, as well as plenty of endemic birds are also found in Sabah. Sandakan The historical city of Sandakan is the second largest city in Sabah. It is in the east coast of Borneo Island and is the administrative centre of the Sandakan Division. It had served as the capital of the British North Borneo during the British colonial time. Sandakan is famous as the gateway for eco-tourism destinations in Sabah such as the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, the Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River, and the archaeological Gomantong Caves.

The Danum Valley Conservation Area

Lahad Datu Lahad Datu is located in the Tawau division, occupying the peninsula on the north side of Darvel Bay. PANGKOR ISLAND The beautiful island of Pangkor is located in Manjung District of Perak – circa three hour’s drive away from Kuala Lumpur. Pangkor Island comprises three main islands: Pangkor Laut, Pulau Mentagor and Pulau Giam, among which, Pangkor Laut is the most famous. A mountainous island, the highest point on Pangkor Island is Pangkor Hill at 1,216 meters above sea level. REDANG ISLAND Redang Island constitutes the nine islands in the Redang Archipelago. A famous holiday and scuba diving destination, renowned for its turquoise clear waters, powdery-white sandy beaches and its diverse tropical reef fish circa 50 feet off the shores. PERHENTIAN ISLAND The Perhentian Island comprises two separate islands, namely Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Smaller Perhentian Island) and Pulau Perhentian Besar (Greater Perhentian Island). In Malay, the name ‘perhentian’ translates as ‘a sojourn’, and in the past, Perhentian Island has served as the main pit stop for traders commuting between Malaysia and Thailand. Apart from the permanent residents who inhabit the small fishing village on Perhentian Kecil, Perhentian Island remains pristine and relatively removed from the outside world. There are no roads on the island, save for labyrinths that cut through the jungle. Watch out for encounters with some of the island’s elusive wildlife, such as fruit bats, monitor lizards, squirrels and mouse deer.
