The Rustic Pathways Critical Issues Summit is a unique two-week experience that will bring together change makers from around the world. Students will explore one of five global critical issues before participating in a conference-style event featuring issue experts, workshops, and community building. Join about 100 students from more than 20 countries and members of local communities most impacted by the critical issues you’ll explore. Create real change by participating in a design challenge with a $10,000 prize that the winning team will share to support an innovative solution to the critical issue in their home communities.

Arrive in Southeast Asia and start exploring your critical issue by meeting with experts such as NGOs or professors. Dive into the “empathize” and “define the problem” stages of the design thinking process. Head to a local community where you’ll develop your understanding of the human side of the issue and its impact locally through immersive homestays. Learn from the perspectives of local leaders and exchanges with local families. Action Week Come together as one group and work with facilitators from our partner, GiveBackHack, to foster the skills necessary to lead innovation. Progress purposefully through an Innovation Curriculum designed specifically for the Critical Issues Summit. Working in teams, develop a Social Innovation Design Challenge project to positively impact one of the critical issues and compete for the chance to win $10,000 in seed funding.

MYSTERY TRIP The Best Adventures Lie in the Unknown

$5,995 | 16 days | Visit rusticpathways.com/mystery for more information. Imagine not knowing where your travels will take you this summer—until arriving at the airport for your flight. Even when you arrive in country, mystery looms. There’s no itinerary. Instead, you’ll wake to clues each morning and your group must decipher them to unravel that day’s adventure. Are you willing to take the leap?

As featured in the Wall Street Journal. Shanna Bober, a 17-year-old high school junior from Boca Raton, Fla., signed on for a guided mystery trip with Rustic Pathways last summer. She had to fight the urge to scour images on the company’s website for clues as to where she was headed (Thailand and Myanmar, it turned out, with a group of similarly adventurous teens). “It was hard,” she said, “But it was actually more rewarding. Learning everything there, in the moment, was so much cooler.” Matthew Kronsberg | The Wall Street Journal | Why Even Control Freaks Are Opting for ‘Surprise Vacations’
