ABOUT THE POSITION Reporting to the associate director for experiential education, leadership, and discovery in Career Exploration and Success with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) Vice-Dean for Undergraduate Education, the program director will oversee experiential education programming, manage the Rutgers Internship & Co-op Program (RICP), and teach in the RICP and other Career related programs as requested by SAS. The program director will work under the direction of the SAS Office of Undergraduate Education to develop the RICP curriculum to include specific learning objectives and professional competencies and create internal and external partnerships to cultivate employer relationships and manage the application process. The program director will work with the RU Office of General Counsel to develop/refine vetting policies for internships/co-ops and response policies for workplace issues encountered by student interns. The program director will serve as the primary expert within the Office of Career Exploration and Success on all internship-related matters and oversee the campus-wide Internship Council (comprised of 52 academic internship coordinators). The program director will also coordinate experiential education programming and provide direct service through group and individual career counseling.
50% – RUTGERS INTERNSHIP & CO-OP PROGRAM:
The program director will manage the Rutgers Internship & Co-op Program. RICP is an online pass/fail internship and co-op course for academic credit during the fall, spring, and summer sessions. Course credits apply towards graduation as general elective credits. The School of Arts and Sciences sets the criteria related to recruitment policies and procedures; the program director will review student applications to the program. She/he will provide direct service delivery to students seeking internship experiences, advising them on search strategies to locate suitable internships, and preparing strong applications for those internship positions. She/he will work under the direction of the School of Arts and Sciences to continually review the accompanying course curriculum to ensure optimal outcomes and, at the discretion of SAS, teach one or more sections of the internship and/or the Career Explorations in Arts and Sciences course each semester. Under the direction of SAS, the program director will be responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of the RICP co-adjunct instructors. He/ she will work with SAS to gather data, assess impact, and use assessment results to refine curriculum and assignments continually. He/she will strive to increase enrollment in the course through mutually beneficial campus partnerships and employer cultivation.

10% – INTERNSHIP SITE VETTING AND OVERSIGHT:
The program director will work with the RU Office of General Counsel to develop/refine vetting policies for an internship, handle articulation agreements and response policies for workplace issues encountered by student interns. The incumbent will also work to ensure that employers retaining Rutgers students as interns are adhering to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other commonly accepted standards of workplace decorum and practice including policies governing sexual and other forms of harassment. The Program Director will develop best practices in this area and promulgate them through the Internship Council. Will also oversee the Internship Council, including maintaining correspondence and planning meetings each semester. The Program Director will prepare monthly reports with an inventory of all workplace issues encountered by student interns and how they have been addressed, along with a list of any vetting issues of workplaces that have arisen; this report will be submitted to both the associate director for experiential education, leadership, and discovery in Career Exploration and Success and the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) Vice-Dean for Undergraduate Education.
15% – EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS:
He/she will also design, publicize, and deliver small and large-group programs on various experiential education topics as well as general career exploration topics. These programs shall include a variety of experience “unpacking” workshops in collaboration with multiple campus partners. The program director will supervise a student assistant and additional student staff as necessary.
