The themes in this report—creating memories, fulfilling dreams and changing lives—are the heart and soul of what we strive to do in our community every day. And you play a big part in our accomplishments. Because of your support… we are able to help members, including special needs children, meet their favorite artists and create memories. Because of your support… we are able to offer students scholarships to study the performing arts and fulfill their dreams. Because of your support… we are able to provide young people with innovative programs that change their lives.

Creating Memories
Each year, we provide hundreds of world class concerts to hundreds of thousands of community members in the Tampa Bay Area. We strive to provide our members with once- in-a-lifetime experiences. Here Ruth Eckerd Hall Board Member Ami Forti and a guest meet Jonathan Jackson, star of ABC’s hit show Nashville. Jonathon + Enation rocked the Capitol Theatre along with Colbie Caillat for a very special benefit with our “Friends of Music” members.

With more than 28,000 students participating in programs at our Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts, children will always be central to our mission. So of course we said yes when a family reached out to us for help affording tickets to a Fresh Beat Band Concert for their seven-year-old twin girls, one of whom has cerebral palsy. As this photo was captured, one of the girls told us, “You made my dream come true!

Classical music, ballet and opera have been vital components of Ruth Eckerd Hall programming since the very beginning. This year, Betty Jo Andrews, Elisabeth Smith and J. Harrison Smith formed a lasting memory when they met Lang Lang, heralded by The New York Times as the “hottest artist on the classical music planet.” Long-time Nuevo Arts Group (formerly Stradivarius Society) member Betty shared, “Anyone who was at this performance would be happy to join us in supporting the classics… it was that outstanding!”

The renovations completed at the Capitol Theatre have fulfilled our dreams, the dreams of the City and the dreams of our fellow Clearwater community members. The impressive numbers achieved and numerous awards won solidify the fact that this is a key component of Downtown Clearwater’s revitalization. In our first year since renovation, the Capitol Theatre had a $5.5 million economic impact*, which created 172 full-time jobs, $4.2 million in household income, $1.6 million in local spending and $531,000 in local and state government revenue. The Capitol Theatre has achieved an extraordinary feat with average attendance being 87% of capacity. Photo credit: Riley Photography *From Americans for the Arts Economic Impact Calculator IV.

The Second Annual Dare to Dream Awards fulfilled the dreams of students competing for scholarship funds. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and event sponsors, Maya Jacobson won first place in the drama and vocal categories as well as being named Fan Favorite. Maya told us, “Winning three scholarships enabled me to go to my dream college and major in musical theater—thank you!” Student-focused fundraising events like this one provided $68,669 in scholarships benefiting 209 students who otherwise would not be able to experience arts education.

Changing Lives
“There’s no doubt you played a huge role in getting us to this point,” – Charlie and Kevin Ries. When The Ries Brothers auditioned for our inaugural partnership with the GRAMMY Museum’s® Music Revolution Project, they never dreamed that one year later they’d be opening for the legendary band Chicago on their U.S. tour. More than 60 talented students participated in this program during its initial two years – and we’re just getting started with it!

Project: Shattered Silence is a cutting-edge theater program that allows teens to create and perform reality-based showcases tackling difficult topics such as adoption, depression, sexual identity and suicide. It has received countless awards and changed the lives of its participants, their family members and friends as well as audience members. One mom told us, “A young lady in one of your plays spoke about her friend committing suicide. Her story encouraged me to get my own daughter the help she needed. Her story really changed me— thank you.”

Our expanded Careers in Theater program (formerly the Technical Theater Career Training program) completed its second year educating 70 students from seven partner high schools and colleges. Nico Lyons, a summer intern and participant in this job-preparedness program, told us, “Working for the education department was the most rewarding experience of my life. As a lighting designer, I worked with many different shows. I take pride in every show and enjoy the challenge as well as the reward of watching my work on opening night. Stay tuned for more news on the next chapter of this exciting program.
