Attendance Policies:

Students are expected to attend class regularly. In case of illness or family emergency, please notify the instructor prior to class through our Education Office at 727.712.2706. Students are allowed to miss up to 3 classes – after 3 you may not be able to participate in the final performance.

If a student misses a lesson without notifying an Education Associate in advance, or is unable to attend a scheduled makeup, a lesson fee will be charged. • Inclement Weather Policy Classes are occasionally cancelled due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled. For our youngest dancers, the introductory classes offer the perfect place to start! Classes are smaller in size to allow for more personal instruction, as little ones begin to explore the magical world of dance. Welcome, Christopher Liddell

Christopher Liddell is certified in the American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum. He has taught at numerous prestigious studios including “Steps on Broadway”, the Harkness Dance Center in New York City and with the Cecchetti Ballet Council of America. His students have been accepted into the American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Ballet School, Laguardia High School of the Arts and Professional Performing Arts and have worked on Broadway and in television and film. His classes are fun, while allowing each student to reach their personal best.

Intermediate Classes

Advanced Classes

The emphasis of the advanced classes is on thorough warm-up and technique, with added attention to style, attitude and athleticism. Students will be given the skills necessary to navigate successfully through the world of auditions – both professional and collegiate. Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts welcome the Tampa Bay Ballet Tampa Bay Ballet was founded in 2008 by Lindsay Clark and is the official school of the professional ballet company, Tampa Ballet Theatre.

Ballet I* Ages: 7 and up Wednesdays, 5:30–7:00 pm Tuition: $350.00 Classes start: September 9 Classes end: April 6 Instructor: Lindsay Clark Students will learn the basics of ballet including: the positions of the arms and feet, proper alignment, body directions, and movement, while developing a great appreciation for music. Girls will start building their ankle strength and flexibility in preparation for pointe work and boys will begin building strength in the legs to perform higher level jumps.

Ballet II* Ages: 9 and up Wednesdays, 7:00–8:30 pm Tuition: $350.00 Classes start: September 9 Classes end: April 6 Instructor: Lindsay Clark Students who have mastered their turnout and placement will learn increasingly complicated steps and combinations at an accelerated pace. This level begins to focus on building leg extension and strength in preparation for partnering.

The Tampa Bay Ballet’s Performance of The Nutcracker Students accepted into the Tampa Bay Ballet I and II classes will have the option to augment their classroom experience by performing in this year’s production! Any student wishing to participate in the Tampa Bay Ballet’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s Christmas classic MUST audition and are guaranteed a role in the Ballet. Students interested in participating must attend an audition and must commit to Saturday rehearsals from September through the performance on December 23rd August 28 - Advanced students ages 13 and up. Drama The theater curriculum rotates on a three-year cycle to provide a varied and thorough experience for each student. This year’s curriculum will emphasize acting methods and techniques, along with character development and creation. Course work will be showcased at the end of each semester. Drama and Choir classes are scheduled so that students may participate in both offerings! Level I: Creating Original Work Grade: 1 – 3 Saturdays, 11:15 am- 1:15 pm Tuition: $390 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Jack Holloway While encouraging self-expression and boosting confidence, students will begin to build the “Actor’s Toolbox” made up of the voice, the body and (most importantly) the imagination. Numerous acting exercises and games to create characters, situations, and ultimately their very own play will be presented at the end of the semester. Level II: Improvisation, Characterization, Monologues Grade: 4 – 5 Saturdays, 11:15 am- 1:15 pm Tuition: $390 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski Using improv games and techniques and the concepts of observations, improvisation, pantomime and monologue study, students will have the opportunity to explore the roles of the mind, voice and imagination while learning to work as an ensemble. Level III: Monologues and Scene Study Grade: 6 – 8 Saturdays, 9:00- 11:00 am Tuition: $390 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski Modern and classic published works will be used, studied, and combined with various acting techniques to assist students in the development of stronger, more truthful moments on stage. Each actor will learn to find which method works best for them while creating a role within a monologue, scene or play. Level IV: “Method to the Madness” Grade: 9 –12 Saturdays, 9:00- 11:00 am Tuition: $390 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Jack Holloway In this advanced class, students will explore numerous popular acting methods such as Stanislavsky, Meisner and Practical 10

Aesthetics. Skills and techniques will be honed to create richer, truer characters and performances. Stage Combat I (Unarmed) Grades 9 - 12 Saturdays 2:30 – 3:30pm Tuition: $150.00 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: December 5 Instructor: Jack Holloway Let’s get ready to (safely) RUMBLE!!! This action-packed class will introduce students to the essential skills and key concepts of unarmed stage combat. Students will learn to safely perform falls, trips, punches, kicks, blocks, elbows and other stage combat techniques, and choreograph their own combat scene to be presented at the end of the semester. (Stage Combat II (Armed- Single Sword Combat) will be offered in spring 2016) Comedy Tonight! Grades 9 - 12 Thursdays 4:00 – 5:00pm Tuition: $150.00 Classes start: September 10 Classes end: December 3 Instructor: Jack Holloway Are you ready for a no-nonsense approach to nonsense? Sharpen your comedic skills with exercises in clowning, timing, styles of comedy and how to sell a joke. Musical Theater Dance and vocal technique are used while the actor is also developing and interpreting their character. These classes help the young and developing student learn the techniques and skills necessary to enjoy and perform on the musical stage. Twinkling Stars Ages: 6-8 Tuesdays 5:30 – 6:30pm Tuition: $150.00 Classes start: September 8 Classes end: December 1 It’s a tale as old as time in a whole new world! Young students will delight in their favorite songs while developing their musical literacy, pitch, character development and movement skills. “I Can Do That!” Broadway Cabaret I Ages: 8–10 Thursdays, 5:30–7:00pm Tuition: $195.00 Classes start: September 10 Classes end: December 3 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski Students will explore classic musical theater characters from the Broadway stage while reinforcing the techniques of physicality, vocal pitch, articulation and projection to create more experienced and confident performers who CAN do that! “Spotlight” Broadway Cabaret II Ages: 11-13 Thursdays, 7:00 – 8:30pm Tuition: $195.00 Classes start: September 10 Classes end: December 3 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski By exploring Broadway musicals from several decades, students will learn to bring characters to life, explore song lyrics as monologues, and write original scenes. Students from both Broadway Cabaret classes will join forces in a full production celebrating their new-found skills in the new Murray Theatre at the end of the semester. 12

Acting in Musical Theater* Ages: 14 – 18 Wednesdays, 5:30 – 7:00pm Tuition: $195.00 Classes start: September 9 Classes end: December 2 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski How do you approach your role in a musical? How do you choose which song to sing for an audition? What do you need to include when building a repertoire? This class will explore the questions each aspiring musical theater performer must ask and answer. Character development, script and libretto evaluation will be studied along with performance techniques including vocal pitch, articulation, projection, and dance movement. Musical Theater Cabaret: “What I Did for Love”* Ages: 14-18 Wednesdays, 7:00 – 8:30pm Tuition: $195.00 Classes start: September 9 Classes end: December 2 Instructor: Jarrett W. Koski This class explores the theater through songs, original monologues and collaboration in group numbers. Students will learn the concepts of dramatic interpretation along with the vocal technique, articulation, and projection required for the big stage, Audition preparation including creating a resume and selecting headshots will be taught, as well. A full cabaret production will be presented at the end of the term. * DOUBLE DEAL: Acting in Musical Theater and Musical Theater Cabaret are scheduled so that students may enroll in both classes with a discounted tuition rate of $325 per class - a savings of over 15%. Choirs

Choirs at The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts offer opportunities for students ages 7 and up. Students of all choirs learn vocal techniques along with appropriate literature and the ability to read music. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Children’s Choir Grades 1-5 Saturdays, 9:00-11:00 am Tuition: $390.00 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Kathy Bawel The Ruth Eckerd Hall Children’s Choir prides itself both in entertaining its audiences and in achieving music literacy for its members. Students involved in the Children’s Choir create choral landscapes while learning the joy of working together. Performances reflect a diversity of choral repertoire, and a variety of venues. The Children’s Choir has been invited to perform again this year with Dave Koz and Friends when they return to Ruth Eckerd Hall on November 29th! The Ruth Eckerd Hall Middle School Choir Grades 6-8 Saturdays, 11:30 am- 1:30 pm Tuition: $390.00 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Rosemary Collins Come join fellow middle school students to develop your talents and perform with students from the Tampa Bay area. Students in this choir will develop techniques essential to young performers and prepare them for participation in high school musical activities. Middle School Choir will perform in concerts at the end of both the Fall and Spring terms. Other opportunities for performance or master class study will be announced as they become available. 14

Center Stage Mixed Ensemble Grades 9-12 Saturdays, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Tuition: $390.00 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Kathy Bawel The Center Stage Mixed Ensemble is an auditioned group of experienced male and female students. This ensemble gives students an opportunity to learn varied, advanced choral repertoire and to build musicianship at a college preparatory level. Students will have many opportunities to perform both on and off the Ruth Eckerd Hall campus.

Center Stage Troupe Prerequisite: must be a member of the Center Stage Mixed Ensemble Grades 9-12 Saturdays, 1:30 –2:30 pm Materials Fee: $50.00 Classes start: September 12 Classes end: April 9 Instructor: Kathy Bawel Students in the Center Stage Mixed Ensemble may apply to become part of this troupe that performs a varied repertoire of music at hospitals, senior centers, charity events and other local venues spreading the joy of music throughout our community. Instrumental Jazz The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts is known for setting the standard of jazz education in the Tampa Bay Area. Our program includes students from four surrounding counties, with many alumni studying in our country’s top music schools including Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Boston Conservatory. The Jazz Track is supported by the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation. (Participation fee for the Festival is not included in tuition.) Auditions: All Students–Saturday, August 22 9:30 am–12:30 pm or Monday, August 24 5:30–8:30 pm Students are placed in ensembles based on their knowledge of music theory, instrument proficiency, and improvisation skills. Auditions will include: • Memorized Scales: Concert Bb, Eb. Ab. Db, F, C and chromatic (two Octaves) • Memorized prepared piece, short jazz etude or standard • Sight-reading at discretion of instructor • Improvisation (optional) Improvise on a 12 bar blues form in concert Bb, F Maj. (Accompaniment track can be supplied upon request) • Drummers should be able to demonstrate swing, ballad, Latin, funk.

The Ruth Eckerd Hall Lab Band Ages: 12–19 Mondays, 5:30–6:30pm Tuition: $300.00 Classes start: September 14 Classes end: April 11 Instructors: Frank Williams and Chris Touchton The Lab Band is designed to give the traditional band student an opportunity to learn jazz styles, theory, and literature. Students are introduced to jazz musicianship concepts which they apply to performance of various improvisatory genres including the 16

blues, big band, and traditional jazz standards. Students will gain instruction in the fundamentals of music, including reading, writing and listening activities, as well as mastery of the elements essential for improvisation. With the recommendation of the instructors, students in this group may participate in Big Band II. Membership in the Ruth Eckerd Hall Big Bands is decided through open audition and subject to the instrumental needs of each ensemble. Literature for both of these ensembles is selected to challenge and reward students seeking to take their love of jazz to the next level. In each ensemble, the history and development of jazz music is explored, along with tools and opportunities for developing their improvisation skills. Percussion Ensemble Welcome, John Lluvera

John Lluvera has authored percussion texts considered to be the standard literature in the field of percussion. Having performed in a variety of percussion ensembles around the world, his musical background includes instruction from renowned music educators Frank T. Williams III, Colin McNutt, and Robert McCormick. He has received many distinguished percussion awards and is currently serving as the Director of Percussion at J.W. Mitchell High School and Lakewood Ranch High School. He also teaches at the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts, the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps and the Infinity Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Each of his students is given individual attention, as his philosophy focuses on steering each aspiring musician towards greatness. On Camera Classes Opportunities to work in Commercials, Film and Television abound in the Southeast. On Camera acting differs in many ways from stage acting, and students who wish to pursue this profession must possess a unique skill set, an understanding of vocabulary, camera technique, and an awareness of the expectations of the Film/TV industry. These classes offer opportunities to learn and develop new skills, improve your auditioning process, work with actual commercial, film and television scripts, and build confidence. Participants will also receive general information regarding castings, agents and photographers. Adult Classes Welcome Yohance Wicks

Yohance Wicks received 2 BA’s in Vocal Performance and Music Education as well as a minor in Jazz Piano from Stetson University. There he also received several awards and scholarships including, 1st Place in the NATs competition and runner up at the Regional Metropolitan Opera competition. Mr. Wicks conducted Stetson University’s Lab Choir for 3 years and taught music to Elementary and Middle School students for 4 years with Orange County Public Schools. Since moving to Tampa Bay, Mr. Wicks has directed musicals such as Seussical The Musical, Hello Dolly, Footloose and Once on This Island. Also, Mr. Wicks has conducted numerous choirs, orchestras and brass ensembles at churches, schools, and community productions.

Ages: 19 and up Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:00pm Fees per term: $50.00 Auditions: September 1 Classes start: September 8 Instructor: Yohance Wicks Come experience the joy of singing and community building with vocalists from around Pinellas County. With more than forty years of tradition, the Clearwater Chorus is the official adult chorus of Ruth Eckerd Hall. Chorus members can look forward to performing a variety of musical styles and genres. Clearwater Chorus Ensemble Ages: 19 and up Tuesdays, 8:15 – 9:15pm Auditions: September 1 Classes start: September 8 Instructor: Yohance Wicks The Clearwater Chorus Ensemble is an auditioned group of singers from the Clearwater Chorus, looking to augment their choral studies and vocal development with challenging repertoire. Adult On Camera Acting Ages: 18 and up, Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00pm Tuition: $25.00 per class Instructor: Peggy Sheffield Auditions, character development, camera technique, memorization and overcoming nerves. This class is for “newbies”, those already working in the TV/film industry and serious actors seeking a deeper connection to their roles and a higher level of work. The focus will be on developing and improving skills and preparing students to work as professionals.

Dance Techniques IV Ages: 18 and up Tuesdays, 8:00– 9:30pm Tuition: $20.00 per class Classes start: September 8 Instructor: Chris Liddell The emphasis for this advanced class is to provide the knowledge, skills, and background necessary for students to navigate auditions and rehearsals. Emphasis is placed on rigorous and thorough warm-ups and technique, with added attention given to style, attitude, and athleticism. These two classes offer a flexible group lesson format that allows you to plan around your schedule. Classes are limited in size, and enrollment requires payment for four classes in advance. However, students will not be charged for planned absences (24 hours notice required). Enrollment and course curriculum are ongoing throughout the semester. 22

Scholarships are awarded annually in the areas of drama, voice, jazz, instrumental music, dance and R.O.C.K. (Original Composition) to high school juniors and seniors currently enrolled at The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts to encourage continued study. A $20 enrollment fee is required for each student. Enrollment fee’s are waived for all Ruth Eckerd Hall Members.

Tuition assistance and scholarships are available for students with financial need.

Payment plans are available (fees may apply). Please contact an Education Associate for more information.

Tuition is nonrefundable. Refunds and credits for classes will ONLY be issued if a class is cancelled by the school.
