Lessons will not be provided without payment. • Private Lesson Cancellation Policy: All cancellations made at least 24 hours prior to the lesson will be offered a makeup lesson. If a student misses a lesson without notifying a Registrar in advance, or is unable to attend a scheduled makeup, a lesson fee will be charged. • Inclement Weather Policy We reluctantly cancel classes due to inclement weather. Because Florida weather and road conditions may change during the day, do not make the assumption that lessons will be cancelled based on the closing of area public schools. By the same token, if weather or road conditions worsen during the day, please check with us before heading out. Please note: Lessons cancelled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled. With a strong emphasis on technique, Dance Classes provide a course of study that strengthens the skills of the amateur dancer in preparation for professional or collegiate study. The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts
Ballet Ages: 6–12, Thursdays, 6:00–7:00pm Tuition: $150.00 Classes start January 15, 2015 Instructor: Miriah Baker Ballet is considered the foundation on which all other dance styles are built. Beginners to Advanced-Beginner dancers are welcomed to this class taught by classically trained Miriah Baker, formerly with the Ballet Theatre of Maryland and a principal dancer with the Tampa Bay Ballet. Dancers will be given the foundation for developing proper placement and lines as well as choreography that will guide, encourage and advance each student to the next level. Adult Ballet Technique Ages: 16 & up, Thursdays, 7:15-8:45pm Tuition $20.00 per class Classes start January 15, 2015 Instructor: Miriah Baker For the adult student with prior experience who wants to regain or maintain his or her ballet conditioning and dance dexterity. This class will provide an energetic workout with challenging dance combinations to keep the adult dancer dancing! This class offers a flexible group lesson format that allows you to plan around your schedule. Classes are limited in size, and enrollment requires payment for four classes in advance. However, students will not be charged for planned absences (24 hours notice required). Enrollment and course curriculum are ongoing throughout the semester. Beginner Tap Class Ages: 7-12, Wednesdays, 5:30–6:30pm Tuition: $150.00 Classes start January 28, 2015 Instructor: Ashlyn Bigley For the beginner studying the basic fundamentals of tap technique this is a fun class that introduces all styles of tap. From traditional rhythm tap to a broad range of tap such as Broadway theater and modern rhythmic styles, this class will get our young tappers started on the right foot! Tap shoes required. Advanced Beginner Tap Technique Ages: 9-15, Tuesdays, 5:15–6:15pm Tuition: $167.50 Classes start January 27, 2015 Instructor: Beth Caprio For the advanced beginner who has accomplished the beginner vocabulary in tap techniques (such as shuffles, cramp rolls, Maxi Fords and the waltz clog), and is still cultivating the basic fundamentals of tap techniques. All styles of tap are taught, from traditional rhythm tap to a broad range of tap such as Broadway theater, Fred Astaire and rhythmic styles of today. Tap shoes required. For the intermediate tap dancer who has mastered basic tap fundamentals such as shuffles, time steps, Irishes, Maxi Fords and cramp rolls. Students develop a personal style and musicality by creating their own rhythms and sounds. Intermediate rhythmic tap choreography is taught and dancers explore improvisation. This class enables dancers to excel in tap dance. Tap shoes required. Repertoire and Tap Technique Prerequisite: Rhythm and Sole Audition Ages: 13–18, Tuesdays, 8:15–9:15pm Tuition: $167.50 Classes start January 27, 2015 Instructor: Beth Caprio Building on a strong foundation in tap and jazz, this advanced class is part of the required curriculum for the Rhythm & Sole Tap Ensemble. Intermediate Jazz Technique Ages: 11–18, Tuesdays, 5:15–6:15pm Tuition: $167.50 Classes start January 27, 2015 Instructor: Madeline Barnes Technique is the foundation for all dance movement. A strong technical foundation in jazz enables a dancer to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance. Advanced Jazz Technique and Conditioning Prerequisite: jazz and ballet experience Ages: 12–18, Tuesdays, 7:15–8:15pm Tuition: $167.50 Classes start January 27, 2015 Instructor: Madeline Barnes This advanced technique class emphasizes the concept of isolation technique, a feature common to all the different and personal characteristics of jazz dance. While building strength and stamina, the essential skills of focus, projection, interpretation and style, linked to the ability to absorb and memorize choreography, are also developed.

Beginner/Advanced Beginner Jazz Technique Ages: 8–13, Tuesdays, 6:15–7:15pm Tuition: $167.50 Classes start January 27, 2015 Instructor: Madeline Barnes Children are taught the fundamentals and language of jazz in an atmosphere of encouragement, discipline and warmth. Emphasis is on correct placement and development of rhythm and isolation, which allow more freedom of expression and movement.

Hoffman School of the Arts Rhythm & Sole Tap Ensemble Ages: 11–18, Thursdays, 5:15-9:15pm Selected by audition, members of the Rhythm & Sole Tap Ensemble will be required to attend the Tuesday tap and jazz classes recommended by the Director. The ensemble rehearsals will take place on Thursdays, 5:30-9:30pm. (Times within the four hours may vary dependent on casting. Dancers will be required to rehearse for two of the four hours) Tuition: $660.00 per term Classes start January 29, 2015 Instructor: Beth Caprio Under the direction of Beth Caprio, The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts’ own resident tap ensemble meets twice a week to study and rehearse for performance opportunities. The ensemble is composed of two groups that rehearse at appropriate levels and then combine their talents for performance opportunities. Past appearances by the ensemble have included Walt Disney World, as the opening act for private concerts such as Maroon 5, Daughtry and the Counting Crows, and the Big Apple Tap Festival in New York City. The youth tap repertoire includes cutting-edge choreography in everything from classical jazz to musical theater, hip-hop and funk. Enrollment is by audition only.

Level II: Creating Connections Ages: 10–12, Saturdays, 11:15 am–1:15pm Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructor: Jarrett Koski Level II continues the refinement of skills covered in Level I while beginning the development of the core elements of body, mind, voice and imagination. Students explore the role that each of these tools plays in character creation, the character’s connection to setting, and the actor’s listening and focusing skills. Further expansion of work in a collaborative ensemble will be linked with monologue reading and writing, and scene work. Level III: Drama in Motion Ages: 13–16, Saturdays, 9:00–11:00am Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructor: Jack Holloway Level III further develops the actor’s physical skills through various techniques applied to the vocal and physical work of the singer/ actor to assist in the creation of stronger and more truthful moments. The application of these skills and scripts from modern and classic playwrights is used in the performance at the end of the semester. Level IV: Focused Studies Ages: 14–18, Saturdays, 9:00–11:00am Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructor: Jack Holloway Various Guest Artists Level IV addresses the needs of the teen actor who is preparing material for competition and college auditions, delving deeper into understanding the role of the actor in professional theater. Students focus on the world of the playwright, learning to create truthful moments from a published play. Class work focuses on the growth and skill development of each individual student through monologues, duets, and student directed pieces from both original written works and classic dramatic repertoire. Students collaborate on performance pieces to be presented at the end of the fall and winter/spring semester. 12 12

Level I: Setting the Stage Ages: 7–9, Saturdays, 11:15 am–1:15pm Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructor: Jack Holloway This class focuses on developing the skills, vocabulary, and knowledge a young theater performer needs to sustain a performance, engage an audience, and grow as an artist. Setting the Stage develops the young actor’s toolkit through creative play, pantomime, reading, and acting out familiar stories and characters. As the class progresses this spring, it will focus on developing the actors’ physical abilities, character connection, emotional comprehension, and listening and focusing skills.
The drama curriculum rotates on a three-year cycle to provide a varied and thorough experience. This year’s curriculum will emphasize original texts. Students will be guided in the creation of their own monologues and scenes. These classes build the essential skills and tools needed for the actor to succeed in performance and to prepare for further study. Next! Auditioning and Conditioning: Ages: 14-18, Wednesdays, 5:30 – 7:00pm Tuition per term: $165.00 Class starts: January 14, 2015 Instructor: Jarrett Koski Preparing for a musical theater career requires acquiring and maintaining optimal performance modes. For the dancer, that means a healthy body and a comprehensive understanding of ballet, jazz and tap. For the singer, it means a healthy voice, proper warm up and vocalization techniques and building a versatile repertoire. For the actor, it means an effective résumé and head shot as well as methods for approaching cold readings and character/ script research. This class will give you the tools to enable you stay in all around great shape. Musical Theater Intensive:”No Business Like Show Business” Ages: 14-18, Wednesdays, 7:00 – 8:30pm Tuition per term: $165.00 Class starts: January 14, 2015 Instructor: Jarrett Koski This spring, through songs, monologues and dance, high school students will have the opportunity to explore the business of show business. This course is designed to help students break out of their shell by exploring what sparked their love for the theater through songs, original monologues and collaboration in group numbers. In addition, students will learn the concepts of dramatic interpretation while other aspects of vocal technique, articulation and projection will be reviewed as they prepare solos, duets and group numbers, culminating in a final cabaret production. I Can Do That… Broadway Cabaret* Ages: 8–10, Thursdays, 5:30–7:00pm Tuition per term: $165.00 Class starts: January 15, 2015 Instructor: Jarrett Koski & Hayley Matrai Whether you are already a musical star or just want to explore your potential, this class will guide you in the development of the “triple threat” musical theater skills of acting, singing and dancing. This semester students will explore some of the classic musical theater characters of the Broadway stage while reinforcing the musical theater performance techniques of physicality, vocal pitch, articulation and projection, creating more experienced and confident performers. Spotlight: Broadway Cabaret – “You Can’t Stop the Beat!”* Ages: 11-14, Thursdays, 7pm–8:30pm Tuition per term: $165.00 Class starts: January 15, 2015 Instructor: Jarrett Koski & Hayley Matrai “You Can’t Stop the Beat” with the Spotlight musical theater class this semester as we explore different Broadway musicals from several decades and see how they were created! Students will have the opportunity to bring characters to life, explore song lyrics as monologue and write original scenes; enhancing their choreography skills and bringing a deeper understanding of vocal techniques, articulation and projection in solos, duets and group numbers. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Children’s Choir Ages: 7–12, Saturdays, 9:00–11:00am Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructors: Kathy Bawel, Bill Cusick The Ruth Eckerd Hall Children’s Choir prides itself both in entertaining its audiences and in achieving music literacy for all its members. Students are trained in sight-reading, vocal technique, and two and three-part harmony. Performances reflect a diversity of choral repertoire, and a variety of venues. Past performances include appearances at Disney World and Busch Gardens. Come be a part of this fun and high-level performance choir! Bella Voce Girls’ Choir Ages: 12–16, Saturdays, 11:30 - 1:30am Tuition: $195.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructors: Rosemary Collins, Judith Hurst This is an auditioned choir for intermediate girls in grades 6–10. Students in this choir will focus on vocal tone, choral blend, and independent part singing. They will receive individualized music theory study and will perform in a seasonal concert at the end of the fall semester and the Main Stage Spring Concert. Additional field trip / master class opportunities and performance opportunities may also be available. Singing Stars Ages: 7–9, Wednesdays, 5:15–6:30pm Tuition per term: $135.00 Class starts: January 14, 2015 Instructor: Carolyn Cline Does your child love to sing? This class prepares the young singer for performing by combining favorite songs and fun games to teach music literacy. Students enjoy singing a variety of entertaining, age-appropriate repertoire, including songs from musicals such as Annie, Oliver and Disney classics. This class culminates with a presentation at the end of the term.
Choirs at the Hoffman School offer opportunities for students age seven through one hundred and seven. Students of all choirs learn vocal techniques along with appropriate literature and the HoffmanSchoolOfTheArts.com ability to read music.

Students will have many opportunities to perform both on and off the Ruth Eckerd Hall campus, and this spring the choir will perform in Washington D.C. Center Stage Troupe Prerequisite: Must be a member of the Center Stage Ensemble Ages: 14–18, Saturdays, 1:30 pm–2:30pm Materials Fee: $50.00 Class starts: January 24, 2015 Instructors: Kathy Bawel, Bill Cusick Students from 14 to 18 years of age may apply to become part of this ensemble that performs a varied repertoire of music at hospitals, senior centers, at events for charities, and in partnership with Morton Plant Mease Hospitals. This ensemble brings an atmosphere of healing to members of our community through the joy of music with songs which are selected, rehearsed and choreographed by the students. This experience can serve to broaden awareness of alternative career opportunities and the role of the arts in medicine while developing a deeper understanding of the connection between students and the community. Participants are eligible to use the Center Stage Troupe as their community service project for Bright Futures Scholarships.
CLEARWATER CHORUS Come experience the joy of singing and community building with vocalists from around Pinellas County. With more than forty years of tradition, the Clearwater Chorus is the official adult chorus of Ruth Eckerd Hall. JAZZ
The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts is well known for setting the standard for jazz education in the Tampa Bay Area. The program reaches out to and draws jazz students from four surrounding counties, and many former students are now studying in our country’s top music schools including Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Boston Conservatory. Students are placed in ensembles based on their knowledge of music theory, instrument proficiency, and improvisation skills.

The Ruth Eckerd Hall Lab Band Ages: 12–19, Mondays, 5:30–6:30pm Tuition: $156.50 Class starts: January 26, 2015 Lead Instructor: Frank Williams; Associate Instructor: Chris Touchton The Lab Band is designed to give the traditional band student an opportunity to learn jazz styles, theory, and literature. The Lab Band introduces students to jazz musicianship concepts which they apply to the performance of various forms of improvisatory music including the blues, big band, and traditional jazz standards. Students will gain instruction in the fundamentals of music, including reading, writing and listening activities as well as mastery of elements essential for improvisation. With the recommendation of the instructors, students in this group may participate in Big Band 2. In each ensemble, the history and development of jazz music is explored, along with tools and opportunities for developing their improvisation skills. Performance opportunities occur often throughout the fall and spring terms, and will be conveyed by the instructors. Ruth Eckerd Hall/Clearwater Jazz Holiday Combo Ages: 14–19 by audition only. Taught by professional actor Peggy Sheffield, this class is for those already working in the TV/film industry as well as serious actors seeking a deeper connection to their roles and a higher level of work. This class is designed to improve existing skills, develop new skills and techniques, and prepare students to work as professionals. This classes offer a flexible group lesson format that allows you to plan around your schedule. Classes are limited in size, and enrollment requires payment for four classes in advance. However, students will not be charged for planned absences (24 hours notice required). Enrollment and course curriculum are ongoing throughout the semester. 22 22
