HOGAN, PARLE & CREANE BY SEÁN FARRELL As their anniversaries occur this month, I had intended to write something about three young Irish Republicans who loved Ireland more than life itself. But then I realised that no words of mine could be as eloquent as the final words of Patrick Hogan, James Parle and John Creane. So here are there own last words to their parents! Something for all the family at Wexford's St Patricks Day Parades orget about Dublin and New York, Wexford is the place to be this St Patricks Day. As well as the traditional town parades, some smaller gatherings are now becoming established in villages across the region. Wexford town will host the largest parade in the County, with ten bands and one hundred and thirty groups and floats taking part. One of the oldest parades in the Country, Wexford has been going since 1917, only stopping during the second world war. It is rightfully regarded as one of the most professional parades in the state. The Wexford parade will begin in

the Fisher's Rowe area of Maudlintown at 11am and move along the quay before ending in West Gate. The area from Redmond Square to the Quays will be closed from 11am in the interest of public safety. Parades will also be held in the other towns across the county, but many people will prefer a more local experience this St Patricks Day. The Carrig on Bannow parade is now in its fifth year and always offers a variety of floats, vintage vehicles, and performers. The Taghmon parade also makes a welcome return this year, with floats, fancy dress and live music in the vil-

lage square afterwards. Kilrane and Rosslare Harbour Active Retired Association will also be holding their annual St Patricks Day lunch in the Hotel Rosslare at 1pm with tickets priced at €18, and €15 for members.

There are now more ways than ever to support Wexford Marine Watch. The voluntary organisation have just launched a new car sticker which is available free of charge from Wexford Swimming Pool in Ferrybank and Blazing Logos on Crescent Quay in Wexford Town. Wexford Marine Watch was formed in 2012 to combat the epidemic of suicides in the Wexford harbour and bridge areas. In its very first year, the voluntary group managed to reduce suicides and accidents in the harbour from several hundred a year to zero. Marine Watch operate safety prevention patrols several nights a week. They also monitor life saving equipment in the area. The organisation is always on the lookout for new members and, like any voluntary group, rely on fundraising to continue their operations. Wexford Marine Watch mugs and other merchandise are available from Blazing Logos on Wexford's Crescent Quay. They also welcome any fundraising that can be carried out by groups or individuals to benefit the organisation.
