Deconstructing the “structures of Mayestik since it has been collapsed because of the plastic consumption and waste, causing the stability becomes scarce. The project focuses on plastic as the attractor of instability. It integrates the modification of spatial elements found in Mayestik and the dynamic flow of plastic use and waste to reveal the events of Mayestik’s catastrophe, allowing human to dwell in the unstable condition.
Many people use plastic on a daily basis. This project focuses on plastic and its use as the antagonist of the collapse process of Mayestik causing it to become unstable and the stability becomes scarce. It is caused by the overconsumption of plastic and it plays bigger role as the attractor of instability. In response to the issue, this project aims to recall the instability process of Mayestik by deconstructing the structures and modifying the existing spatial elements. This project also tries to observe the dynamic flow of plastic use and waste as the method to reveal the event behind the collapse process of Mayestik. It leads to the “switching perspective of the actor in which plastic now becomes the protagonist and shapes new spatial experience.

Scarcity is not only about the conditions of “having limits”. It is a more complex and problematic concept because it touches on every aspect of life. It began with human’s neglection of surroundings condition. Nevertheless, seeing scarcity as an opportunity is needed for human to be aware of what is already there and be able to learn from the past. Scarcity also could be the turning point for us human to see the new paradigm of the chaotic processes that previously occurred. Furthermore, human’s ignorance and the over-consumption of plastic triggers environmental stability where the plastic waste could contaminate the surroundings. Plastic will then play bigger role as the actor of instability and it is seen as the antagonist for the environment. The research is then followed by exploring and finding the stages of instability.
RESPONSE: MAYESTIK Mayestik is one of the area with the highest amount of plastic use. Many trading activities happened in Mayestik because it is a trading area that consists of Street Vendors, Shop Houses, The Resto, and Market. This step of research aims to find the plastic usage in Mayestik.
Scrutinizing Mayestik Taking Mayestik, one of the vital markets located in South Jakarta due to its high consumption of plastic. This project is focused on the event that lies beneath the trading activities and the plastic consumption that occurred in Mayestik. There are various types of plastic use that it is mainly used to wrap the food and objects to make the buyers easy to carry. Sometimes, it is also displayed to attract them. However, the over-consumption of plastic causes Mayestik to collapse.
The research is then followed by reimagining Mayestik’s collapse process that are differentiated into 4 phases and there are only the destroyed structural elements left. The project is taking time after the Mayestik’s collapses. By emphasizing the potential of the catastrophe, this project deconstructs the existing structural and spatial elements and it is then merged with the events of plastic use and waste found in Mayestik.
