Buying a car: new or used, that is the question Conventional wisdom says that a new car will always cost you more than a used one. Why? There’s a higher price tag and you have to face the depreciation that comes when you drive off the dealer’s lot. Previously, if you were looking to save money, used vehicles were thought to be the best option. However, as supply may not be meeting demand, conventional wisdom may not hold true.“Several years ago, we would have advised shoppers to go the used route in order to save money, but in the current economic state, used car prices have skyrocketed, which could make buying new just as economical,” says Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief of Cars.com. Experts suggest that the sluggish economy pushed more people out of the new-car market and into the used-car market. This resulted in a strain on used inventories, jacking up prices. Additionally, the 2009 Cash for Clunkers program also removed more than a million used cars from the market. “It’s all about supply and demand,” says Olsen. “Low supply means car shoppers can expect to pay a premium for a used car that would
usually be affordable, since new cars are so much more plentiful.” While used-car prices have dropped a little in recent months, they remain high compared to historical standards. Aside from looking just at cost, experts like Olsen, say that buying new or used has many different benefits. Some of the advantages to buying a new car: * Reduced maintenance expense, l argely because of warranty coverage * Free roadside assistance * Often lower financing charges, which can be spread over a longer loan term * Peace of mind knowing that you are the first owner * That unique feeling of owning something brand-new On the contrary, there is a definite case to be made for buying used. “If you aren’t married to the idea of buying a new car, used vehicles also offer some great benefits,” says Olsen. “The top perk remains affordability. Buying used can often let buyers drive a nicer, more luxurious car than they could afford if buying new.”
TERENEA REAL ESTATE
Other benefits of buying used: * Someone else paid for the depreciation * Often there is leftover warranty coverage Another trend that makes buying used an intriguing option is the proliferation of certified pre-owned programs. The idea started with luxury brands, but today, most manufacturers have these programs. “Consumers can be assured that they are getting a great car when buying through a certified program,” says Olsen. “Only newer, low-mileage cars are usually included, and they have to undergo a rigorous inspection by the manufacturer to be considered
for the program.” Certified vehicles are normally covered by a new warranty that extends beyond the original factory warranty. There are also sometimes special low-financing options for certified vehicles. What the future holds for the great new or used debate remains uncertain, but the improving economy has resulted in record-breaking newcar sales in 2013. “This means that, in theory, the supply of used cars should go back to normal, and buying used should once again be cheaper than buying new,” Olsen says.

Back to school road trip Whether you’re a parent driving your college-age student to school or you’re heading out on your first solo road trip back to campus, you can make sure your trip is stressfree and prevent unnecessary break downs on the road. Check your tires While you can’t avoid all debris on the road that could cause a flat tire, you can make sure your tires are in the best shape possible before you set out on your trip. Inflate your tires to the air pressure recommended by the manufacturer. This can be found on the inside of the driver’s door. Do not inflate them based on the numbers on the sidewall of your tire. Tires are manufactured for a variety of vehicles, but the manufacturer determines the correct air pressure based on other aspects of the car. Inspect the tread on your tires. Any signs of wear like little - or no tread - or visible threads signal that tires
need to be replaced. Update your GPS Summertime is notorious for road construction and driving around to take an alternate route or sitting in traffic can waste time and gas. That’s why it’s important that you update your GPS before you hit the road. In addition to avoiding construction, keeping your GPS up to date provides other benefits: * Stay safe by avoiding unnecessary stops in unfamiliar
neighborhoods, particularly at night. * Save time and money by using your GPS to locate restaurants, hotels and gas stations so you’re not driving around aimlessly. Freshen your fluids For most college students, maintaining a vehicle is not usually at the top of the list of priorities. Taking care of basics like changing your motor oil, oil filter, air filter and checking the level of other fluids like radiator coolant can save you from costly repairs. Consider using premium synthetic motor oil like Royal Purple. This simple switch can save you money because you can go more miles between oil changes. Depending on driving habits, this can be between 10,000 and 12,000 miles. Taking the time to make sure your car is maintained can mean an enjoyable trip back to school and a great start to the new school year.

Santa Margarita Eagles Football Team Victorious Over Venice, 42-0 Eagles Bounce Back in Commanding Fashion to Shut Out Venice High School 42-0
The Eagles get ready to take the field last Fright night at Trabuco Hills High School. The Eagles shut out the visiting team, Venice High School, 42-0. The Eagles are now 4-1 and will host JSerra Friday, October 10th at Saddleback College. Story by: Sean Zeitler Photos by: Bob Russell Last Friday the Eagles were able to bounce back with a dominating win over visiting Venice High School by a score of 42-0. In a very efficient manor, junior quarterback KJ Costello completed 87% of his passes as he connected on 13 of 15 for 129 yards with a long of 38. Costello’s primary targets were Kyle Sweet, Connor Bianchini, and Noah Rasheed with Sweet leading the charge by racking up 79 yards on six catches. Bianchini finished the night with four catches for 33 yards and Rasheed hauled in three catches for 17 yards. On the season, Costello is now 111 of 171 for a 65% completion percentage and has 1,479 yards, eight touchdowns to four interceptions. On the ground, the Eagle run game was shared by senior Christian Caragao and junior Dre Hall, as the two accounted for 146 of the Eagles’ 162 rushing yards on the game. Caragao led the Eagles with 80 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns, the first two of his career; his batterymate Hall finished with 66 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns of his own. Through the first five games, the Eagles are now outscoring their opponents 155-99 and have held all opponents to only 17 first quarter points total. On the defensive side of the ball, Page 8
the Eagles tallied five turnovers and were led by senior defensive end and UCLA-commit, Rick Wade. Wade had a standout night as he was the leading tackler with 14 tackles. Wade also ended the night with an intercepted pass for touchdown and broke up another. Last year, Wade returned an interception 74 yards for a score against Carson and he now leads the team with 51 tackles, no Eagle defensive lineman has ever led the team in tackles in school history. Grady Higgins also ended the night with an interception of his own which resulted in a 52-yard return that closed out the half. From a school record standpoint, the Eagles are rewriting history through the first five games of the season as they have set five new school records, including plays in a game (86 vs. Bishop Amat), yards in a game (613 vs. Corona Santiago), completions in a game (27, KJ Costello vs. Corona Santiago), receptions in a game (15, Kyle Sweet vs. Dorsey), and longest punt (65 yards, Kyle Sweet at Bishop Gorman). The Eagles are on the plus-side of the turnover ratio as they have 11 takeaways to only six giveaways, they have accumulated 2,221 total yards on 346 plays and are averaging 444 yards per game. Defensively, the Eagles are holding opponents to five plays per possession and only 25

Senior Kyle Sweet yards per possession compared to 39 yards of their own. Santa Margarita is now 4-1 as they wrap up their bye week this week before opening Trinity League play next Friday in the SMCHS Homecoming game versus JSerra (50) at Saddleback College at 7:00pm on October 10th. As of the latest county rankings, the Lions of JSerra find themselves ranked third behind only Mater Dei and Servite, one spot ahead of the Eagles who come in ranked at number four. The Trinity League now owns the top five sports in the county rankings, with only St. John Bosco not on the list because they are outside of Orange County but were most
Junior J.P. Hackett recently ranked as the best team in the country before their loss to Bishop Gorman last Friday night. With many people thinking this is the best team in JSerra’s school history, the target will be on their backs with the Eagles going into the game as the underdog. In his first season at the helm, head coach Rick Curtis now ranks tied for second with his 4-1 start behind only Mike Jacot (5-0, 2003) and tied with the only other head coaches in SMCHS school history Jim Hartigan (4-1, 1989) and Harry Welch (4-1, 2010). Freshman setter Devon Chang jump sets during a recent victory over Sage.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS! The Coto de Caza News is happy to announce the birth of your newborn:
Baby’s Name: Date of Birth: Weight:
Two ladies came in last week. Their stories were similar. Both were new to the area, each went to a new dentist, each was told that she needed a Dr. Michael Tessier relatively large amount of dental work (one of the ladies said the estimate was $10,000), even though they each had been going to their dentist regularly for years. So, totally independently, they came in to see me to get their teeth cleaned and for a thorough comprehensive examination and second opinion. We did a full set of x-rays on each, checked gum health, took photographs, and checked for cancer. They were both in great shape, dentally, and just needed a maintenance visit. It does happen that patients come in needing a very expensive treatment plan to get their mouths back to a healthy state. Maybe times were tough and money was scarce, or they couldn’t get time off from work, or they didn’t have dental insurance (more on that in a moment), or they didn’t have a dentist they could trust. I did have a lady bring her children in once who’d taken them to see the dentist within the six months before moving here. Each of the children had pretty significant decay- eight and twelve

cavities each , several of which I could see without even putting a mirror in their mouth. Mom was understandably upset with what I told her and took the children to another dentist, who confirmed my diagnosis. She brought them back, and we got everything squared away to mom’s satisfaction. The point is, if something doesn’t sound right, or you don’t understand it, please get a second opinion. We see patients with questions all the time, those consultations are complimentary, and we’re glad to help out. Now, a word on dental insurance. Not all dental insurance coverage is good, coverage isn’t all the same, some companies aren’t easy to work with, and some people just don’t need dental insurance. They might end up paying more in “co-pay” and premium than they would if they just got done what needed to be done when needed. After-school smarts: Go healthy when kids go home The hours between the end of the school day and bedtime are a golden opportunity for parents to help children build healthy and safe habits that will last a lifetime. Here are some simple and free ways to incorporate messages about eating well, staying safe and avoiding injuries while kids complete homework, participate in team sports or recreational activities, and relax with friends. Personal safety Some kids engage in team sports after school. Others participate in school-sponsored extracurricular clubs. Still others go home and spend time alone until parents are finished working. Regardless of how a child spends the hours after school, personal safety should be important—and a topic of conversation between parents and kids. Consider how your child will spend their after-school hours, and work together to develop a list of relevant safety tactics. For example, if your child plays a sport, discuss ways to avoid injury and make sure they always wear appropriate safety gear. For students who will arrive home before parents, set ground rules, such as go straight home and check in via phone call or text once they arrive. Remind children not to open the door to strangers or answer phone calls from numbers they can’t identify. Safekids.org offers a wealth of safety tips that can be applied to virtually every child’s after-school situation. Better snacking Snacking is actually a very healthy habit when done smartly. Teach kids to reach for a sensible and filling snack to help keep their minds alert for homework and their bodies fueled for after-school activities. Encourage kids to use portion control and choose healthier snacks, like fresh fruits or veggies or fat-free options like pretzels. Portion-controlled, pre-packaged choices are convenient and healthy options for after-school snacking. For example, 100-calorie pretzel packs from Snyder’s of Hanover are a greattasting snack kids love. Plus, ample research - and common experience - indicates chewing on something crunchy stimulates the brain. Try a low-fat combination of pretzels with apple slices or carrot sticks, which are more stimulating to a child’s brain than something sweet and fatty. Visit
www.snydersofhanover.com to learn more. Follow a schedule that builds in fun and eases homework headaches Naturally, all children want to work some fun into their day, whether it’s before or after homework is complete. Since most kids thrive with guidance and structure, talk to your child about creating a schedule or “to-do” list for after-school time, and make sure it includes a combination of fun activities, snack time and homework. Keep in mind that every child is different. Some children need to run around before starting homework, while others do best when saving the fun time for last. Screen time Once kids have completed homework and gotten a little physical activity, many may prefer to spend hours online, playing video games or watching TV. Finding a balance can be tough. Many parents take a “homework first” approach, having kids complete school assignments before they’re allowed the treat of screen time. Also consider parental control software to set limits on when kids can use the PC, laptop or tablet and to restrict when—and where—they can go online. You can also encourage kids to use technology in a manner that stimulates their brain, such as reading a book on a tablet, working on a brain puzzle on the computer, or practicing their keyboard or typing skills. Many schools will provide a list of fun websites kids can access at home or the library to reinforce skills taught in school. Once the bell rings and school is out for the day, keep your children safe, smart and healthy with each of these approaches.

Tips for a Successful New School Year Says Anne munz of rsm montessori Its funny how fish don’t need to be bribed to swim, bear cubs don’t need to be coaxed into climbing trees, and cheetahs Anne Munz, director don’t need to be tricked into running. However, for some reason, we feel the need to do all of the above to get our children to read, write, add and subtract and learn to become adults. How has our absolute trust in the natural processes of life somehow skipped over our children? The truth of the matter is, children don’t need all the coaxing, bribing, and tricking we give them. In fact, they actually come to resent it, and it goes on to cheapen the value and their natural love of learning. If you watch a child truly interested in something, you will see that it takes no outside force to keep him/her interested. Furthermore, if you went to help the child, you might soon find the child leaving and finding something else to do. Therefore, this “help” actually discourages a child, achieving the exact opposite of the planned outcome. So how do we help our children in the pursuit of becoming adults? It’s very simple; we ACT like adults. Children sense when we’re acting fake towards them with our cute little (accidentally)
condescending voices, because they’ve heard our normal voices when we talk to other adults. By simply being an adult we are teaching our children the important things they need to know as well as giving them the respect they deserve. By watching us be ourselves they will see the importance of reading (getting information), writing (giving information), math (money matters, furniture rearrangement), and every other subject possible (and trust us, it’s a lot more than reading, writing, and arithmetic!). It is very hard to trust our children to succeed in life, because we love them and don‘t want to see them fail. However, we are doing them a great disservice by interrupting their unique discovery of life. We must trust our natural programming which is to be the quickest learning species in the world!!! They will most likely fail at first and get frustrated, but without being pushed, they will learn better than anyone could ever teach them. By allowing this love of learning to reach full speed, failure gains its rightful place as simply a learning tool. Let your children show YOU where their limits are, because they’re probably a lot farther than you ever imagined. Diocese of orange to celebrate prestigious and historic “red mass” for orange county’s legal community
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange and the St. Thomas More Society will host the 26th annual Red Mass at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange on Monday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m. The Red Mass is celebrated annually at the opening of the judicial year. Orange County judges and lawyers will attend as a group, joined by public officials and law faculty members. The custom originated in Europe in the 13th century and received its distinguished name from the brilliant scarlet vestments worn by the Mass celebrant and Lord High Justices in England. “I am pleased to take this special opportunity to recognize the dedication and mission of our local legal community and seek to strengthen their resolve in the upcoming judicial session. As a faithful shepherd of our Catholic community in Orange County I am honored to attend this celebration and the St. Thomas More Society dinner after the Red Mass where an exemplary legal professional will receive the St. Thomas More Award,” said the Most Rev. Dominic Luong, Auxiliary Bishop of Orange. This unique Mass for the Bench and Bar has been celebrated for many centuries all over the world. Its roots Page 22
can be traced back to Paris, France where the first recorded “Red Mass” took place in 1245. It was held for centuries in the chapel of the Order of Advocates, La Sainte Chapelle, built by Louis IX. In certain localities of France, the Red Mass was celebrated in honor of St. Ives, the patron Saint of Lawyers. In England, the tradition began about 1310, during the reign of Edward I. The entire Bench and Bar attended the Red Mass together

at the opening of each term of Court. The tradition of the Red Mass continues in the United States. Each year in Washington, D.C., the members of the United States Supreme Court join the President and members of Congress in celebration of the Red Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew. The Red Mass is also celebrated in Sacramento and most other state capitals and major cities throughout the United States.
The first Red Mass in Orange County was celebrated in 1988 and has become a tradition. “The Red Mass in Orange County is an honored tradition that brings the legal community together and reminds us of the lawyer’s duty as a servant to his client and to justice and equity in the law,” said Fabio Cabezas, esquire, chair of the 2014 Diocese of Orange Red Mass Committee.

The 17 Best New Cars of 2015 from Edmonds Get excited. Because if you like cool cars and trucks, the next 18 months are going to be a good time to be alive. Below is a list of cars that make us remember why we got into this business. These are cars and trucks that show promise in their respective segments. Some — like Jaguar’s XS sedan — are all-new. And some — like the Ford F-150 — are mainstays that show promise in concept form. Others (like just about everything from GM on this list) deserve acknowledgement for either risk-taking or simple segment leadership. In no particular order, then, we present 17 groundbreaking, silly-fast or simply cool machines hitting the market in or around 2015. Acura NSX Though it will likely be a 2016 model, Acura’s NSX will go on sale in 2015 and that’s good enough for us. Acura promises that the NSX will be a dynamic demon in spite of its hybrid powertrain. That shouldn’t be a problem, as it will combine a twinturbo V6 with three additional electric motors, two of which will drive the front wheels individually. It should fill the original’s shoes in spirit if not in execution. 2015 Audi S3 Sedan With nearly 300 hp, Quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed transmission, the S3 is the small sporty sedan most of us here would choose. Its perfect balance of performance, comfort and technology acknowledges that not everyone wants their driving machine to be one-dimensional. 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Don’t mess with Cadillac. Because it plans to jam the 420-hp V6 from its CTS Vsport sedan into the compact ATS in order to make the smaller sedan a genuine V model. This is serious business. The ATS is small and light, so it will haul ass with this much power. And that’s really, really cool. 2015 Cadillac Escalade It’s all about the interior with the 2015 Cadillac Escalade. Stitched, perforated leather and real wood trim take center stage in an upgrade that significantly departs from the Suburban-Yukon twins on which it’s based. Expect 420 hp and 460 poundfeet of torque from the Escalade’s 6.2-liter direct-injected V8. Two- or four-wheel-drive models will be available. 2015 Chevrolet Colorado The combination of a stagnant midsize segment and the fact that many truck buyers want to buy domestic leaves Chevy in a position to strike while the iron is hot with its all-new Colorado. This truck’s good looks, three powertrain options (including a turbodiesel for 2016) and three body configurations won’t hurt,
either. If there was ever a sure thing in truck sales, this appears to be it. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Very little is known about the first performance model based on the C7 platform. Even its name remains unconfirmed. What we know for sure is that the car will be shown at the Detroit auto show in January 2014, which means it will likely go on sale later in the year as a 2015 model. Expect all the C7’s goodness to carry over into a car that actually fills its fenders with huge rubber and big brakes. We think it will be powered by a normally aspirated direct-injected V8 displacing more than 6.2 liters and generating between 530 and 570 horsepower. 2015 Ford F-150 New styling, a broad range of engine options and better fuel economy should help the 2015 F-150 retain its position as America’s best-selling truck. When it comes to trucks there’s a fine line between groundbreaking and bank breaking, and Ford appears to be walking that line carefully with the new F-150. Expect a truck that’s better in every way. Don’t expect one that’s new in every way. 2015 Ford Mustang Fully redesigned for 2015, all Mustang styles will get independent rear suspension. The big news, however, is the likely addition of a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder to the lineup, possibly to replace the V6. The 5.0 V8 will, of course, remain the iconic engine of the brand. 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan All-wheel drive will be an option for this popular sedan when it hits showrooms next year as a 2015 model. Otherwise, the news is mostly about styling, which is striking and makes the previous-generation Genesis sedan look conservative by comparison. Both the 3.8-liter V6 and the 5.0-liter V8 will remain — at least in the first year. 2015 Jaguar XS Sedan Though it’s unclear exactly when
this car will be unveiled, it’s certain that Jaguar intends to go toe to toe with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series. Expect a rear-drive-based powertrain with at least two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter supercharged V6. Both engines will almost certainly be backed by a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe Jaguar’s F-Type convertible is a strikingly beautiful car. And it only gets better with a hardtop. Base supercharged V6 engines will retain 340- and 380-hp ratings, while the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 bumps from 495 to roughly 550 hp in the F-Type R Coupe. ZF’s eight-speed automatic is still paired with every engine. Expect to see the coupe at dealers in the spring of 2014. 2015 Lexus RC Coupe This is what’s called a no-brainer in the car industry. Lexus shaves two doors and the roof line off the IS 350 sedan and calls it the RC 350 Coupe for 2015. Expect power to come initially from the IS 350’s 3.5-liter 306hp V6 followed by a 2.0-liter turbo-4. A 450-plus hp V8 will come later, allowing the RC Coupe to go head to head with BMW’s M4. 2015 Lincoln MKC There are piles of money to be made in the compact luxury crossover segment. Ask BMW. Or Mercedes. And that’s exactly what Lincoln would like to do with the Ford Escape-based MKC. Because its fundamentals are already in place, Lincoln will have to rely on striking styling, an outstanding interior and flexible chassis tuning to make the MKC a hit. But it’s been done before. A 2.0-liter EcoBoost four coupled to a six-speed automatic is the most likely powertrain. All-wheel drive will be optional. 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class With the wildly popular CLA-Class taking the C-Class’ spot as entry-level Benz, the priorities have changed for Benz’s breadwinner. First, it’s getting
bigger. Five inches will be added to the C-Class’ total length, which will noticeably increase rear-seat legroom. A new 2.0-liter turbocharged four will be the base engine, while a 2.1-liter diesel remains a very real possibility as the upgrade engine. An eight-speed automatic will be the go-to transmission and all-wheel drive will be optional. 2015 Nissan Titan Expect the 2015 Nissan Titan to come out swinging, because it needs to. This truck has, since its introduction, been an also-ran. Unlike Ford, which can rely on a solid reputation for building serious trucks, Nissan has an image to build. And the first-generation Titan didn’t get the job done. Expect a new V6 to join the once-standard V8 along with an all-new 5.0-liter Cummins diesel V8 engine. That kind of powertrain portfolio might get truck buyers talking. And that’s exactly what Titan needs. 2015 Subaru WRX Subaru’s new WRX is stiffer, lower, longer (in wheelbase) and more powerful than the car it replaces. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and a performance-tuned CVT (no, seriously) is optional. Though its styling is far more conservative than that of the concept shown earlier this year, a new WRX is always a good thing. Expect the STI to follow shortly. 2015 Tesla Model X Tesla’s Model X will (according to Tesla) go on sale in 2014. All-wheel drive will be optional and Tesla claims it will enable sub-5.0-second 0-60 times. After our experience with the Model S, we expect the Model X to be more of the same: groundbreaking, innovative, fraught with technology and remarkably refined. Also, it’s an SUV with really cool doors. Like the Model S it will be available with either a 60 or 85 kWh battery.

HAPPY GRAPES
By David White Wine demands to be shared. Enjoying a glass alone is fine, of course. But there’s an emotional component to wine appreciation. That’s a big reason why enjoying a bottle with friends is always more meaningful than drinking alone. Chicago wine enthusiast Mark Boldizsar recognizes that few experiences are quite as enchanting as sharing a special wine. So last week, he took to the world’s most active wine discussion board, Wine Berserkers, to detail his journey of wine discovery -- and ask fellow oenophiles about the doors that have opened thanks to wine. “As much as I enjoy drinking nice wine, I have to admit it’s only a small part of a larger picture,” Boldizsar wrote. “From my personal experiences, my fondest wine-related
October 3, 2014
Life Is Richer with Wine memories are of sharing my wines in the good company of other wine lovers. “In regards to my personal story,” he continued, “I was able to reconnect with a good childhood friend on the basis of wine. Over the past 4 years, we have been fortunate enough to meet up several hundred times (at least once a week). The wine is all well and good, but it’s the side stories, wine talk, and laughter that makes it so enjoyable.” Shortly after his post went up, other enthusiasts shared their stories. Many credited wine for their strongest friendships. For instance, California resident Leon Markham thanked wine for introducing him to “some of the smartest, kindest people I know.” Others praised wine for enhancing food and travel. Eric Ifune thanked wine for helping forge a deeper connection to his father. That bond remains strong, even though his dad has passed away. Another oenophile thanked wine for helping forge a deeper connection to his son. “Sitting with my son, enjoying a bottle, [and] seeing his eyes light up as he takes a sip and says, ‘Wow, Dad, this is crazy good.’ To see him have a moment, like I did so many years ago, enjoying and sharing that
time with him. [It was] magical.” Many shared tales of launching new careers. For Bill Hooper, “there were continents crossed, languages learned, cultures explored, [and] friends made” on the way toward producing Riesling in northwest Oregon. These stories are moving, to be sure. But they aren’t uncommon. Consider my own. I first fell in love with wine in the fall of 2007 while vacationing in Napa Valley. By the time I returned home, I had already decided that wine would become my new hobby. So I started planning more trips, reading books, taking classes, and tasting as much as I could. As I dove deeper into the world of wine, I launched a second career as a wine writer. And I met fascinating, generous people across the world. Today, I count many of them among my closest friends. Four years ago, at a fundraiser for an organization that works to aid the homeless and poor, Washington Post wine columnist Dave McIntyre praised the wine world’s generosity. “I’ve never met a miserly wine lover,” McIntyre said. “Spendthrift wine lovers, to be sure -- I’ve met people who live in apartments cramped and stacked floor to ceiling with cases of wine, who wear clothes
until they fall apart no matter how many trends ago they were -- if ever that sweater was fashionable. And yet these same people will come up to you and say, ‘You’ve got to try this grand cru Burgundy!’” Every wine geek can relate to that tale. At some point, we’ve all watched as a friend eagerly shares a special wine, forgetting to pour any for himself. Put simply, life is richer with wine. It’s more expensive, too. On the Wine Berserkers thread, David Bueker, a Riesling fanatic in Connecticut, thanked wine for “amazing friendships coupled with staggering credit card bills.” Many promptly agreed.
Think hosting a dinner party is difficult? Think again
Some might call the dinner party a lost art, but gathering family and friends around the table to eat great food, drink fantastic wine and enjoy each other’s company is the perfect way to celebrate the holidays. Creating an elegant, effortless evening to remember is easier than one might think. Perfecting the dinner party is about putting people at ease and creating an environment that encourages conversation and laughter - the two most important elements of a successful dinner party. So, instead
of trying to impress guests with fancy culinary skills or decorating prowess, focus on five simple tips: 1. Light can be the life of the party From glowing centerpieces to sparkling votive candles, elegant party lighting is always a bright idea. Candles set the mood and create ambiance - and allow your guests to truly shine. 2. Let the wine flow The right wine can perfect the moment and no dinner party would be complete without it. Greet guests
with a bright and beautiful sparkling rose and keep it flowing during the cocktail hour. During dinner, offer one red and one white wine. Santa Margherita Chianti and Pinot Grigio are two delicious options with wide appeal. 3. Of course dessert is a food group! Dessert is the perfect way to end an amazing meal. Leave your guests floating on air with angel food cake topped with a Prosecco-infused frosting. 4. Don’t let guests leave empty-
handed Giving guests a little something to take home when they leave extends the good vibes. Say goodnight in a unique way by sending guests home with a bottle of wine or votive candle to re-create the magic in their own home. 5. Remember to breathe If you’re having fun, your guests will too. Take a deep breath and, while you’re at it, give your red wine a little air, too. Aerators open up the aromas and flavors, making every sip better.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (855) 427-2204, visit this Internet Web site http://www.altisource.com/MortgageServices/ DefaultManagement/TrusteeServices/Sales.aspx using the file number assigned to this case 2012-01130. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. Date: 9/3/2014 Power Default Services, Inc. c/o 30 Corporate Park, Suite 450, Irvine, CA 92606. T.S. No.: 2012-01130.
