Shopping Guide for Red-Hot Valentine’s Day Dresses By Stephanie Haddad Tired of wearing the same old black dress every time you’ve got a hot date? This Valentine’s Day, you could be sizzling in a hot red dress instead. With the “little red dress” taking Hollywood (and everywhere else) by storm, there’s no time like a holiday dedicated to love to pick one up for yourself. How to Choose Your Little Red Dress Buying a dress, no matter what the color, does not have to be a difficult process. Know your body type, what flatters your shape, and have an idea what you’re looking for before you shop. Here’s some basic guidelines for common body types: Heavy body types should shop for a dress that creates symmetry in the body (either minimizing the top half or bottom half for balance). For a minimizing top, look for a scoop or v-neck design and some simple flare or draping on the bottom. Pear-shaped body types will benefit from a dress with some detail work on the top half and an a-line silhouette. Ellen Tracy makes a great dress in cherry red that is figure flattering. Hourglass shapes should be the easiest to dress and can wear nearly

any style. But if you choose to even out the curves, shop for a dress that doesn’t accentuate the waistline, like a sheath dress. Rectangular body shapes need a dress that adds some curvature, like a belted or cinched-waist dress. Wrap dresses, halters, and sheaths are also good at feminizing a boyish figure. Have some fun with a chic red wrap dress by TravelSmith or a printed floral in red by Diane von Furstenberg. Red-Hot Shopping Options There are a lot of options out there for anyone in the dress shopping market. Red dresses, as well, abound. Nearly every major brand name has a red dress, some in multiple designs, patterns, materials, and styles. To find the best choice for you, have your specifics in mind and start searching! Some of the hottest trends in dresses right now include unique necklines, lace and sheers, mixed fabrics, one-shoulder, wraps, and (still) maxi dresses. Have some fun with something sexy and smoldering or chic and elegant, the choice is yours. As long as it’s red, you’ll be catching eyes wherever you go!

Lovestruck: How to give a Valentine’s Day gift perfect for her unique personality Whether it’s a couple’s first date, a pair of love birds in their honeymoon phase or a husband and wife team enjoying 50 years of married bliss, Valentine’s Day serves as a reminder of the affection shared with a special someone. For the Valentine who is truly one of a kind, find a gift that perfectly suits her unique personality. She’ll love the presents and appreciate the thought that went into finding that perfect gift, just for her. Follow these guidelines to select something so flawless, even cupid will be impressed. For the DIY designer - A unique, personalized gift is the perfect choice for the creative one who loves giving everything her special touch. Personalized home decor is a great way to show extra thought and effort. For example, an accent pillow that features a couple’s star signs is sentimental yet stylish, or a personalized canvas wall art with both couples’ names printed in script is a beautiful addition to any interior space. For the classic lady - If she embodies unparalleled style and grace, select a gift that is as classic as she is. For this personality, traditional,

tried and true Valentine’s Day gifts like gorgeous fresh flowers are the best choice. Red roses are a classic choice that represent love and affection, but if she likes the classic with a twist, consider a bouquet of multi-color roses. Orchids, an exotic flower that has long been believed to be a natural aphrodisiac, are another popular option for a classic but on-trend floral gift. A dependable floral gifting site like ProFlowers will have numerous seasonal designs to choose from. For the trendsetter - Something sparkly always catches a trendsetter’s eyes. Gifts of jewelry are extremely popular and serve as a reminder of love every time she wears it. When shopping, keep in mind her favorite colors and design preferences. Natural stones and rich metals are on trend for 2014, so go for pearls, gold and stones like garnet and blue topaz. For the foodie - Is she always cooking up a surprise in the kitchen and watching the latest food-focused TV show? If that’s her, surprise the foodie with a Champagne toast this Valentine’s Day. Make it extra special by toasting with new Champagne flutes from RedEnvelope that feature

the word “love” in a variety of different languages - because after all, love transcends all things. For the hopeless romantic - A little pampering can go a long way on Valentine’s Day. Give her something dainty and soft, like a delicate set of cami and shorts, perfect for a romantic evening or simply lounging on the weekends. Present her with a spa basket full of luxurious goodies

like bath salts and lotions, and watch as the stress melts away and she falls in love all over again. When words aren’t enough, the right gift can show how special she is. From roses and orchids to love baubles and Champagne toasts, a few great gifts and personalized touches to the day will leave her smitten.

Hands-on advice for getting the best from your touchscreen mobile device Few inventions have evolved as amazingly fast from science fiction to science fact as touchscreen technology. From its very basic beginnings in the mid-1960s to the first consumer applications on ATM machines in the ‘80s, touchscreen technology has reached virtually everywhere - including our pocketsized mobile devices. As astounding as the touchenabled smartphone or mobile device is, you still need to handle and use it wisely in order to ensure its optimal functionality. Here is some hands-on advice to help ensure you get the best out of your mobile device. Taking care of your touchscreen You may be surprised to learn that the glass touchscreen on your mobile device is one of its most durable parts. That’s because it’s most likely made of Corning Gorilla Glass, a tough glass - created by the glass scientists at Corning - that is featured on more than 1.5 billion devices worldwide. In the early days of touchscreen technology, device-makers used plastic solutions to protect LCD screens in mobile devices. The plastic scratched easily and lacked the smooth, aesthetic appeal and feeling of glass. Soda lime glass, most commonly known as window glass, was another material used for screens at the time, but it wasn’t durable enough for everyday use. Chemically strengthened Gorilla Glass provides the design aesthetics and naturally appealing feel of glass, and is a superior conductor for touchscreen technology. Thin yet tough, this industry-leading glass makes many of the display and touch-enabled aspects of your device

possible. The glass is durable and is designed to help sustain minor scratches and continue to work for the life of the device. It requires only basic, common-sense care and cleaning - no special cleansers required. To learn more about Gorilla Glass, visit www.corninggorillaglass. com. Prevent water damage Keeping your mobile device out of the water may seem like an obvious precaution, but more than one smartphone has died a sad, wet death because someone used it in the rain, swimming pool or bath tub. Remember, your mobile is an electrical device - it has a battery and water and electricity generally don’t mix well. What’s more, the inner workings of the device are not meant to be exposed to contaminants - liquid or otherwise. Getting your phone wet almost always means you’ll have to replace it. If you do accidently immerse your phone in water, remove it immediately and promptly take out the battery. Contact the device manufacturer to see if they have any advice for this type of damage. You can also try packing the phone in rice. The rice grains act as a natural moisturegrabber (it’s why some people put rice in their salt shakers) and may help remove enough water to allow the phone to function again. Battery basics Although mobile device batteries seem to tout longer charges every year, the more you use your device and the more functions you perform with it - the faster your battery will drain. Your phone probably has a function that details exactly how much power each app is drawing. Start by

shutting off or de-installing apps you don’t use. Next, if your device has Gorilla Glass, you may want to turn down the screen brightness. With Gorilla Glass’ excellent transmission performance, you may not need the highest levels of brightness. If you use your device for social media and email, change the settings so that these applications only update when you manually direct them to do so. Automatic checking for new emails, tweets and posts consumes a lot of battery power. You can also turn off vibration alerts, which take a toll on battery use. Finally, disconnect the Wi-Fi on your device. Not only does searching for Wi-Fi drain the battery, connecting to wireless networks that may or may not be secure exposes you to hacking. It’s actually much more likely that a cyber attack will affect your device than the risk that a scratched screen will end its usable life. In 2012, more than 65,000 mobile malware threats affected nearly 33 million Android devices, according to a security report by NQ Mobile Inc.

Job Seekers: Resolve to Make a Better Impression in 2015 First impressions matter, particularly when you’re in the market for a new job. While a top notch resume and cover letter can help get your foot in the door, only you can seal the deal. The New Year is the perfect time to revamp your look for a smooth job search. Make a strong first impression at your next interview or networking event with these easy tips: • Be a good listener. What you say is just as important as being engaged when others are talking. Make good eye contact and ask questions to show you are interested in what is being said. • Anticipate the questions you will be asked so you are prepared with intelligent, confident and articulate responses. Define your strengths and weaknesses ahead of time to answer every hard question with ease. • Get a good night’s sleep the night before an important interview or convention. Not only will you look fresher and more alert in the morning, you’ll be thinking more clearly as well. • Know how to explain any gaps in your resume. If you have taken time off from your field to pursue a passion for travel, be ready to discuss this time off and explain how it has helped you professionally. • Prepare your 30-second elevator pitch to communicate your strengths and goals. You never know where a

conversation with a hiring manager may lead, so be sure to tailor it to each person you speak with so it does not sound over-rehearsed or unnatural. • The maxim often holds true that, “it’s not what you know; it’s who you know.” Be sure that your LinkedIn profile is up to date, showcasing all of your recent work. Connect with headhunters, friends, family, or even old classmates and coworkers to learn about opportunities you may not have heard about otherwise. • Dress to impress to be taken seriously. Denis Daly Wood, founder

of Dalys1895.com, a century-old men’s luxury designer and online retailer, recommends standing out with a unique accessory for your suit, such as a stylish tie clip, tie, pocket square, or pair of cufflinks that can break the ice and start a conversation. “A unique pocket square can finish off the look of a suit or blazer, while also helping convey that you are stylish and put together. What you wear communicates a lot about your personality and who you are,” says Wood. Seek quality accessories, such as tItalian silk pocket squares, which

are handmade or tAlligator Belts, Wood also reminds job seekers that outerwear and a bag may often make or break the first impression. A sophisticated briefcase, coat and winter scarf, such as the exclusive Caravaggio wool and silk men’s scarf, can give you a polished look when you’re making your entrance. In the profe s s i o nal real m , presentation matters from your social media profile to your suit and tie. For a successful job search, resolve to showcase the best version of you in the New Year. Colorful accents create extraordinary spaces When looking to transform your home, elements such as doors, ceilings and trim are perfect places to add color. These architectural details can create a wow factor with well-placed splashes of color. “An unexpected pop of color adds interest to a space, helping an otherwise ordinary room become warm and welcoming, or modern and luxurious,” says David Bromstad, HGTV star and celebrity interior designer. “Doors, ceilings and trim are my favorite places to introduce bold accents. And if you start with a coordinated palette, it’s easy to find an accent color you love.” Bromstad recommends a collection of interior and exterior color palettes that simplifies the process of choosing hues for home accents or accessories, so you get it right every time. Bromstad offers the following tips for using color to accent your space. * Welcome guests with statement doors. Refreshing your home, inside or out, can be as easy as a brightly colored door that welcomes visitors. Boost curb appeal by inviting guests into your home with a bold orange or red front door. Inside the home, captivate guests with indulgent, exotic hues on doors. * Rethink the white ceiling. To make a space feel expansive, or for an

unexpected touch of luxury, consider a colorful ceiling. A sky-blue porch ceiling draws from nature and helps your outside space to shine. Inside, for an elegant dining room, opt for rich hues such as black or deep gray. * Frame your space in neutrals.

White trim offers depth and sophistication to your home. To give your interior a twist of modern luxury, opt for white trim with a hint of gray or taupe. Outside, consider white trim with a touch of blue or green. “You don’t need to paint an entire

room or exterior to transform the aesthetic of your home. Refreshing a space, inside or out, can be easily accomplished if you start with unique accents and architectural elements,” says Bromstad.

Snoring, or noisy breathing while asleep affects slightly more men than women. There are several reasons for this, including Dr. Michael Tessier flabby tissue in the throat, loose or long soft palates, or obstructed nasal passages. Sleep apnea or the temporary cessation of breathing is a result of some of that redundant tissue or the base of the tongue covering the wind- pipe. Snoring and sleep apnea prevent a good, deep night’s sleep, which can lead to a sleepy day, even narcolepsy which causes people to fall completely asleep during the work day. Undue stress on the heart can also be a result of a poor night’s sleep. According to a Yale University study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that obstructive sleep apnea can triple the risk of stroke or death. 4% of adult men and 2% of adult women in this country suffer from the malady, including, according to a 2003 study of three hundred players, about 14% of the National Football League. While there are surgical procedures used today to cut away redundant tissue and open up the breathing passage

not everyone needs surgery to fix this problem.. Alternatively, I make a noninvasive removable oral appliance (like a retainer) that comfortably repositions the lower jaw forward, thereby clearing the base of the tongue away from the windpipe minimizing breathing restrictions to give you more oxygen while you are sleeping. I have tried several designs, both on myself and patients with similar problems, and have finally found THE WINNER. My wife and my neighbors, and all the patients for whom I’ve made this appliance and their neighbors, are very grateful. We all awaken more refreshed in the morning because we got a more profound, more restful nights sleep. Incidentally, a patient told me today that in a hospital sleep study he had 168 sleep apnea episodes without the appliance, and seventeen episodes with it. Also, he had a seventeen per cent reduction in blood oxygen while sleeping without the appliance, and only a three per cent reduction with it. If your sleep habits are disturbing other people, before going the surgery route, a call to Dr. Tessier’s Office for a complimentary consultation appointment may be in order. Dr. Michael Tessier’s office is located at 28562 Oso at the intersection of Oso and Antonio parkway in the center near the carwash and Starbucks. The telephone number is 949-459-7212.

Yes, the cooler months are here and sumnmer is a way off. That means long coats, scarves and an entirely different skincare routine. Skincare you say? True, it’s easy to forget about your skin when it’s covered by all those extra layers, but dermatologist Dr. Anne Chapas, who is the founder and medical director of Union Square Dermatology, says cooler months are when skincare, particularly lip care, is most important. “The skin is our first line of defense against environmental elements, but the skin on our lips has extremely unique properties. It is one of the most sensitive areas of skin, so they require special attention in order to maintain a healthy appearance,” says Dr. Chapas. With that in mind, Dr. Chapas offers these tips to help you keep your lips and the rest of your skin feeling and looking healthy no matter the temperature. * Nurture your lips. The cooler months are hard on your lips. Not only are they exposed to cooler temperatures daily, behavioral habits like biting or licking your lips can also be damaging. “What most people don’t realize is that common behaviors such as drinking wine or coffee and eating salty or acidic foods can dry out the lips,” says Dr. Chapas. “But drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated and applying a moisturizing lip balm can help counteract the effects of these activities and improve your lip health.” Chapstick Hydration Lock Moisturize and Renew is a dual-ended lip balm that delivers long-lasting moisture to the lips and works great to keep the skin on the lips moisturized and replenished in the cooler months.

* Protect your hands. Your hands are often left exposed during the cooler months, especially if the cold air has dried your skin, making gloves or mittens painful to wear. Dr. Chapas says products that contain shea butter and lanolin are great for counteracting the abuse your hands endure. * For your scalp. A thicker, moisturizing shampoo will reduce dryness on your scalp and prevent itchiness as temperatures drop. * Remember the time of day. Don’t use the same skincare products for day and night. Instead, use products with protective, moisturizing benefits to guard your skin during the day. At night, switch to heavier creams that offer more hydration. Your skin will absorb this extra moisture while you sleep. For example, ChapStick Hydration Lock Day & Night contains two distinct formulas specific for day and nighttime use. * Don’t forget the sun. Just because you’ve traded in your sunburn for windburn doesn’t mean you don’t need SPF. “UV damage can happen year-round,” says Dr. Chapas. “In fact, we are closer to the sun in the wintertime, and the sun can reflect off the snow, further amplifying its rays and causing sun damage. This makes it so important to incorporate sun protection into your skincare routine, regardless of the season.” Areas like the lips where skin is thinner will need even more attention and protection, since they are so sensitive. On those coldest days when you’re bundled in layers, remember your skin needs extra protection and these simple tips will help your skin stay healthy during the cold weather season.

Well, Wrap Me in Chocolate and Call Me a Valentine By Nancy V Canfield Describing chocolate is like trying to bail out a boat with a fish net. It just can’t be done. Chocolate is different things to different people. It does seem that the only thing we can all agree on is that chocolate and Saint Valentine’s Day go together like Cheech and Chong. Chocolate is an extraordinary gift, and has been since ancient times. The Aztecs, in 1400, traded with Maya for cacao.. They seasoned bitter chocolate drinks with spices, and offered the sacred brew as a favorite social drink for rulers, decorated soldiers, and merchants. Priests presented the cacao seeds to the gods as offerings and celebrated sacred ceremonies with chocolate drinks. Throughout the ages, chocolate has held its place as the most satisfying of edible delights. Why does chocolate make us feel good? Without expanding on the scientific explanations of the effect chocolate has on us, let’s just say that stimulants and chemicals in chocolate affect our central nervous system and brain, elevating our mood, calming our anxiety, and evoking feelings similar to those described as “a runner’s high.”

Of course there will be mood busters who decry the sinfulness of chocolate. The fat and sugar contained in chocolate more than outweigh the benefits, say the pompous and grumpy food police, who would have us all survive on bark, twigs, and grubs for our own good and the good of the planet. To them I say...hogwash. The wondrous effect that this heavenly, sensual, and gratifying substance offers feeds not only the body but the very soul. The name for the tree from which chocolate is made, Theobroma cacao, in Greek means “food of the gods.” If chocolate was good enough for the Gods, then by golly, it is good enough for me. Chocolate not only does things to us, it says things for us. As a gift, it covers a multitude of occasions nicely, but first and foremost, it is the Valentine’s Day representation

to bestow upon the love of your life. It is wickedly suggestive, and sinfully pleasurable. Sure, a big fat diamond is nice, but surround the rock with the seductiveness of chocolate and you have an unforgettable moment of passionate surrender. Plus, you can eat the better part of the gift. Oh, all right. I may be overplaying the chocolate angle a bit, but when you get right down to it, there are few of us who can resist a big ol’ hunk of chocolate?

For those out there toying with breaking tradition and buying the love of your life something silly for Valentine’s Day, like a Ferrari or a mink coat, I say...think again! Not only will you save yourself a bundle of money by sticking with tradition, you will reap the rewards of being a sentimental slob, which is sure to arouse the loving and protective instincts of romantics everywhere. So, this Valentine’s Day, wrap up in chocolate and call yourself a Valentine!

Measles in Orange County, confirmed cases Orange County now has sixteen confirmed cases of measles. Ten of the reported measles cases in Orange County, along with others throughout California and in other states, are connected to visiting Disneyland or Disneyland California Adventure Park in December. The source of the infection for the four most recent cases is not known; they were not exposed at Disneyland and had no known contact to any of the confirmed Disney-associated cases. The identification of four measles cases with acquisition from unknown community contacts indicates exposure to measles is more widespread throughout the county. The Health Care Agency expects that the measles outbreak will continue to spread, so all should be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles. Health officials remind the public that the best way to prevent the measles is by getting vaccinated. Measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that causes fever, rash, cough, and red, watery eyes. Children too young to be immunized, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems are at the greatest risk for severe illness. Measles spreads very

easily by air and by direct contact with an infected person. People are contagious from approximately four days before the rash appears through four days after the rash appears. Anyone suspecting they have measles should CALL their medical provider BEFORE arriving at the medical office to avoid exposing others to the measles virus. Protect Yourself and Family from Measles: • Children should receive their first

MMR vaccine at 12-15 months of age. The second dose of MMR is given at 4 to 6 years of age before going to school. • Vaccinating children, adolescents and adults is the best way to protect infants who are too young to receive the MMR vaccine. • Vaccinations are very safe. The benefits far outweigh any risks. Side effects are usually mild, such as soreness where the shot was given. • Measles is found in many parts

of the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Vaccination before traveling is recommended. • Measles vaccine is widely available in the community, and free and low-cost vaccinations are available. A complete list is available at www.ochealthinfo.com To learn more about measles, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the Orange County Health Care Agency.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (800) 280-2832 or visit this Internet Web site WWW. AUCTION.COM, using the file number assigned to this case 012142-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. FOR SALES INFORMATION: (800) 280-2832 C L E A R RECON CORP.
