Creating a pollinator-friendly habitat in your backyard Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, bats and beetles play an important role in producing healthy plants and food for people and wildlife. Without pollinators feeding on nectar and moving pollen from one flower to the next, most plants would not produce fruit or seeds. You can attract pollinators to your lawn and garden by following these
steps to create a pollinator-friendly backyard habitat. * Grow a diverse assortment of trees, shrubs and flowers. Place water sources throughout your lawn and garden to draw a variety of pollinators to your yard, while providing them with food and sheltered nesting areas. * Add color to your backyard. Each
pollinator is drawn to specific plants based on its size, shape, color and scent. Bees are attracted to yellow and blue flowers, as well as fruit and nut trees with strong fragrances. Hummingbirds prefer large red or orange tubular flowers with no odor. * Select flowering plants that bloom at different times to provide nectar sources throughout the growing
season. Place plants in clumps to supply large areas of color and coverage that attracts pollinators. * Choose plants native to your area to encourage healthy pollination activity. In the South, flowers from mint, oregano, lavender and other herbs attract bees, while pink azaleas and coral honeysuckle vines entice hummingbirds into your yard. In the Northwest, birds are drawn to flowering grape holly shrub and blue columbine flowers will draw butterflies into your outdoor space. Pay attention to how you apply lawn and garden products. “When using insecticides, carefully read and follow label directions to protect pollinators,” says Aaron Hobbs, president of RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) a national organization representing the manufacturers, formulators and distributors of pesticide and fertilizer products. Pollinators are as essential as sunlight and water in the production of flowering plants, many of which are important food sources. Support your backyard ecosystem while attracting pollinator populations and surrounding your home with colorful arrays of native plants.

If you spring clean your home every year, you might want to consider an often forgotten and usually cluttered space - your email. Your digital world can get just as messy as any other area of the home with all the photos, emails and documents you’re creating and storing. Your inbox is a great place to tackle first considering the average person will receive more than 10,000 emails this year, according to The Radicati Group, Inc. According to Outlook.com, 80 percent of the average inbox is commercial mail, such as newsletter and daily deals. All those emails could take hours to sort; however, with a few email tools, you can easily, and quickly, unclutter and organize your inbox. Try the following tools to make your email spring cleaning easier: * Mass delete unwanted emails. The first step most users take when cleaning their Inbox is to get rid of emails that they don’t want. For these emails, features like Sweep in Outlook.com allow users to easily delete (and, if you want, block) emails in bulk by deleting a large number of emails from certain senders, keeping only the latest and most relevant messages. You can even schedule a cleanup, saving you time in the future. This comes in handy when you want to clean up all of those newsletters or daily deals. In fact, the sweep feature helps Outlook.com users move or delete 7.5 million emails every week. * Categorize emails, making it easier to access when needed. By creating categories based on topics that commonly appear in your inbox such as coupons, calendar related activities or personal conversations,
you can then archive email to keep yourself organized and find emails quickly. * Create folders so you can automatically file away emails and easily find in the future. You can take this a step further and let your email service do the work for you by creating rules that move email to folders as soon as they hit your inbox. * Set up actions to help you review all your emails quickly. Once you’ve uncluttered your inbox, tools like Outlook.com’s Instant Actions allow users to focus on important emails by quickly accomplishing the most common inbox tasks such as delete,
flag and mark emails as unread without having to actually open an email and read it. * Leverage your email to stay connected in other ways. Connect your email to Skype, Facebook, Twitter and other social chat tools. In addition, when you connect other services, some email services automatically update contact information for your people so they’re always up-to-date. Once you have your inbox spring cleaning accomplished you can get back to using email as a personal and productive tool rather than viewing it as a chore.

COURT TELLS DEVELOPER TO HOLD YOUR HORSES
PRESIDENT OF EQUESTRIAN CENTER BOARD KEN AGID RESPONDS TO COTO DE CAZA NEWS MARCH 14TH ARTICLE ON THE COTO EQUESTRIAN CENTER
Mounted protestors carrying signs and banners opposing Equestrian Center proposed sale in September I would like to thank the editors of the Coto de Caza News for the opportunity to reply and correct some statements which appeared in last week’s article in The Coto de Caza News which omitted the consequences of this hostile takeover attempt, on the Equestrian Center’s status and made inaccurate assumptions about the position of certain members of the SilverBronze Corporation (SBC) Board, the corporation that owns the Equestrian Center Since others attributed statements misrepresenting my opinion and position on the disposition of the Equestrian Center, I believe I represent the majority position of the Silver Bronze board with respect to its opposition to Oak Grove’s unsolicited attempted takeover of the Equestrian Center and feel it is important to clear up everyone’s misconception of what is really taking place in Coto. Coto residents should make no mistake. The ownership and future existence of the Coto Valley Equestrian Center is threatened by a hostile takeover attempt by Oak Grove LLC, a developer proposing to take over and demolish more than half of the current stables to build a tract of 30 high priced homes. These homes would be located immediately adjacent to occupied horse stalls. The plan appears to give no consideration to the nuisance of dust, flies, noise and odors, a plan that foretells the ultimate demise of the Equestrian Page 8
Center buried in neighbor complaints. The Silver-Bronze Corporation was founded in 1990 as a NonProfit, Mutual Benefit Corporation with a purpose of operating a diverse collection of communityserving recreation facilities that include the Equestrian Center, the Village Clubhouse and Pool, and 10 Tennis Courts, a residual of the Vic Braden Tennis Training facilities. These assets create a unique recreational lifestyle, set within a country environment benefitting the surrounding neighborhoods. The Coto Valley Country Club and Equestrian Center are central elements which if lost would decrease the attraction and value of the entire Coto de Caza community. As President of the Board, I and five other currently elected directors have opposed the Oak Grove proposal and filed a Complaint in the Superior Court of Orange County. On March 7th the Superior Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) limiting any further actions by Oak Grove in pursuit of their proposal. On March 14th the Court requested additional information and rescheduled a court date for May 1st to rule on an Injunction that would make the Temporary Restraining Order ruling permanent. Oak Grove has reportedly entered into binding agreements in which they control 88 shareholder’s ownership rights, paying $30,000 for each. Oak Grove plans to exchange those
The Coto de Caza News
ownerships back to SBC in return for the transfer of 11 prime acres of the Equestrian Center. Their plan benefits those selling shareholders, but would leave the remaining 100 shareholders with a greatly diminished Equestrian Center. Based on the opinion of two CPA’s and a Tax Attorney this exchange will saddle the Corporation with major tax liabilities from this transfer/sale of corporate assets which include facilities whose replacement cost would be millions of dollars, and whose loss I have calculated would cut Equestrian Center revenue by half. Since Equestrian operations generate 80 percent of Silver Bronze total income, this massive revenue loss and any tax liability would likely result in the ultimate economic failure of the Corporation, forcing a sale of all remaining distressed assets, including the Clubhouse and Tennis facilities. The Superior Court has so far agreed with the directors who opposed this “land for membership’s exchange” as we contend it is illegal, unethical, and unfair to a majority of the corporation’s shareholders. The previous newspaper article implies that the majority of the board already committed to sell the entire equestrian center to a developer for medium density housing which is not accurate. The Equestrian Center has not been offered for sale. Last September the shareholders voted to have the Board “investigate the sale
of the corporation and estimate its market value”. That is what the Board is currently implementing. The evaluation has not yet been commissioned. It will ask for proposals that define prospective buyer’s potential types of planned use, and their valuation of this opportunity. Proposals to be considered may include bids to buy just the Equestrian Center and/or the Clubhouse facilities and perhaps retain their functionality as is, or as part of an overall development plan. Since these recreation facilities are zoned only for commercial development, any change to residential will be subject to approval by the CZ Master and Village Associations. Three of the nine board directors committed their ownership rights for payments received from Oak Grove, and pledged support for this proposal benefitting only 88 shareholders. The six un-conflicted directors recognize we were elected to serve in the best interest of all 188 shareholders, We have asked the Superior Court to affirm our contention as stated in the Bylaws that it is illegal for the corporation to distribute proceeds of an asset sale to any shareholders, except under dissolution of the entire corporation, and then only equally among all shareholders. Kenneth Agid President of the Board of Directors Silver-Bronze Corporation

Wells of Life’s mission has been to provide clean water to communities in Eastern Africa. Their team is committed to building water wells in communities that are otherwise forced to travel miles a day for just a few buckets of fresh water. By building these wells, Wells of Life gives the local communities a new chance at sustainable living. Wells of Life participated as Platinum Sponsors at The First Official Movieguide® Awards Backstage Gifting Suite Experience in Association with the 22nd Movieguide® Awards. The awards gala and gifting suite benefited Good News Communication Inc., a non-profit ministry dedicated to promoting positive values in the entertainment industry according to Christian morals. The Awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Bill Engval and included special performances by Richie Sambora and Billy Ray Cyrus. Thankfully with the help of the Movieguide® Awards Gifting Suite Experience, Hollywood will gain awareness and join us on our mission of providing clean, safe drinking water,” states Nick Jordan Founder of WOL. Along with Jordan, board members Michelle Yegsigian, Pete Callahan, and Michelle McCullagh also were on hand to represent Wells of Life. At the gala and gifting suite experience, Wells of Life representatives mingled with studio executives and celebrities where they were able to introduce Wells of Life and discuss their philanthropic goals. During the gifting suite, Jordan, Yegsigian, Callahan, and McCullagh, presented specially made gift bags for the celebrities in attendance. The ecofriendly, reusable gift bags included baseball caps and t-shirts with the Wells of Life logo, handmade glass heart necklaces that acted as a symbol of the Wells of Life mission, and an invitation to their exclusive gala in Mission Viejo for October 25, 2014 with world-renowned Irish tenor Anthony Kearns performing (he is a founding member of The Irish Tenors). California Festival of Speed: Largest Porsche Event in the Southwest The 13th running of the California Festival of Speed is fast approaching! This Porsche Club of America event is the largest Porsche event in the Southwest. At its core, the Festival is a PCA Club Race, however, this weekend features something for everyone. Autocross, Concours, Time Trial, Pirelli Cup Racing, Parade Laps, Porsche Corral and super car displays and a hospitality area featuring a vendor row, food court, goodie store and more. The 13th running of the California Festival of Speed is fast approaching! Hosted by Zone 8 of the Porsche Club of America, this event will take place April 4-6 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. The Festival is the largest Porsche event in the Southwest. At its core, the Festival is a PCA Club Race, which is amateur racing at its best. This sport sees Porsches old and new out on the track for a weekend of exciting wheel-towheel action. Of course, even more important than having fun, safety is the primary goal as nobody has corporate sponsors bankrolling them or their cars. Everybody wants to go home in one piece, with the only hits being taken by bruised egos. Much more than a club race, however, this weekend features something for everyone. Autocross,
Concours, Time Trial, Pirelli Cup Racing, Parade Laps, Porsche Corral and a hospitality area featuring a vendor row and goodie store and more. This is a festival because it has something for everybody! At the Festival the autocross isn’t intended to be a normal competitive event. Rather, the goal is to try to capture the attention of those that won’t normally seek out a performance driving event. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll get caught up in the excitement of the races and be willing to give it a try themselves. From there, who knows? There are plenty of autocross events throughout Zone 8 waiting for them should they catch the bug from this “taste of autocross.” The Time Trial is the perfect breeding ground for future club racers, and a great stepping stone up from Autocross. This event emphasizes learning how to deal with traffic (in addition to car control). Their final racing event is the Pirelli Cup racing team. This group of award winning pros always join for a few sessions each day to practice for their upcoming series events; which certainly contributes to the excitement of the weekend. For those that aren’t driving, the center of activity is vendor row. They feature dozens of vendors that specialize in products for your
Porsche and more, as well as a food court of LA food trucks. Surrounding vendor row will be several car displays. On Saturday they feature the Porsche Timeline, a car show that this year will feature a display of the four and eight cylinder Porsches that have produced over the years. Next to the timeline will be a Concours, where the Porsches will be judged and their owners rewarded for their efforts in the cleanliness and preparation of their vehicles. On Sunday they will have a Supercar Paddock which will feature exotic and rare cars of all types. During the lunch break each day, the track will be open for Parade laps.
For a small fee you too can see the track from the racers point of view, imagining the excitement as you take your car through the twists and turns of the track. INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR SARAH CHANG SHINES WITH BRILLIANCE WHEN SHE JOINS PACIFIC SYMPHONY Gleaming with glamour and virtuosity, Sarah Chang, one of the world’s foremost violinists, returns to Pacific Symphony to perform Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, which takes full advantage of the violin’s expressive range, from the rippling high chords to the growling alto notes. With an international career that spans more than two decades, Chang, the “thrill seeker” who made Mendelssohn “sizzle” (Orange County Register) when she opened the Symphony’s 2011-12 season enthralls once again—this time alongside guest conductor Tito Muñoz. Opening the concert and having its West Coast premiere is a sensuous work by Adam Schoenberg, “Finding Rothko” (2006). Inspired by four bold paintings by American Abstract Impressionist painter Mark Rothko, the work is a musical depiction of the emotions Schoenberg felt embodied in each of thepaintings.Embrace art, music and mastery at “Sarah Chang Plays Sibelius” Thursday through Saturday, April 10-12, at 8 p.m., in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Tickets are $25-$99. For more information or to purchase
tickets, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org. “The Sibelius concerto is one of my favorite violin concertos, and I say this as a violinistmyself,” says Maestro Muñoz. “I also have known of Sarah Chang since I started learning music,so it will be a thrill to work with her for the first time in these concerts.” The Symphony opens the evening with a work by Schoenberg, whose music has an ability to create “mystery and sensuality” (The New York Times), and has been called “open, boldand optimistic” (Atlanta JournalConstitution). The four movements, based on Rothko’s paintings, are played without interruption, flowing from the sunny heights of “Orange” and “Yellow” to the deep and mysterious tones of “Red” and “Wine.” The night swings into a close with the cheerful rhythms of Symphony No. 8, abundant in the folk music of composer Dvořák’snative Bohemia. Full of energy, the symphony toys with woodwinds in the opening, reflects on the joys and sorrows of country life in the second movemennt, transitions to a lusciously scored waltz in the third and uses a trumpet fanfare in
the finale. “I think that Dvořák may actually have had a very indirect influence on Adam’s work,” says Muñoz. “Since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 8, Chang has performed with some of the most esteemed orchestras, conductors and accompanists worldwide. Her most recent recording for EMI Classics— her 20th for the label—featured the Brahms and Bruch violin concertos with Kurt Masur and the Dresdner Philharmonie, and received excellent critical and popular acclaim. In 2006, Chang was honored as one of 20 top women in Newsweek magazine’s “Women and Leadership, 20 Powerful Women Take Charge”
issue. In 2008, she washonored as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In 2012, she received the Harvard University Leadership Award and in 2005, Yale University dedicated a chair in SpragueHall in her name. In 2011, she was named an official artistic ambassador by the United States Embassy, and hhas since traveled the world to connect audiences through what she says is the “one and only universal language”— music.“Chang is a complete package as a player—technically assured, colorfully expansive, subtly probing, boldly commanding.” — Grand Rapids Press

A nice lady in her middle 50’s came into the office the other day with a chipped upper front tooth. It turns out that the opposing tooth on the lower arch was Dr. Michael Tessier rotated and a corner of it pushed forward, allowing it to bang against the upper tooth, which caused it to wear away the enamel on the backside of the upper tooth, and ultimately fracture that edge. We had to put a veneer on the front surface of the tooth to restore it to its’ original contour. Then we had to fix the source of the problem. During one’s lifetime, lower teeth migrate toward the front of the mouth, and then towards the center. This happens even if a person had orthodontics as a youngster, and the wisdom teeth really have little effect in crowding the lower front teeth. If the four lower front teeth stay in alignment with each other, they’ll stay straight. But, if the forward migration pressure is too great, they’ll start to rotate or over-lap each other. This has a deleterious effect on the supporting tissues of these teeth because it is harder to keep them clean and decay-free and the gums healthy. It also has a negative impact on the upper front teeth, making them stick out unevenly, or loosen the upper front teeth, predisposing them to premature loss.
Or, the fracturing mentioned above. The solution is to minimally, imperceptibly (0.25mm per side per tooth) reduce the width of each of the lower front teeth, then de-rotating them (realigning or straightening them) into the newly created space, so that they end up being out of harm’s way. This is an ideal application for Invisalign, the series of computer-generated aligners that orthodontically reposition teeth, invisibly. If the upper teeth are also crowded, our invisible alignment procedure called Invisalign will work to straighten them out, too. Some people may think that nobody sees the lower front teeth, so their alignment isn’t critically important. It turns out, that’s not the case. We need to keep all the teeth healthy and functional. I personally don’t think that everyone’s teeth have to perfectly straight. But, in my forty years (ouch) in the dental field, I’ve met many people who are reluctant to smile because they think their teeth are unsightly. Next time you’re close to a mirror, like when you’re looking to see that you got your teeth clean while brushing, check out your lower front teeth. If they’re crooked, call me. Or, if the edges of your upper front teeth are chipping, even barely noticeably, call me. Dr. Michael Tessier’s office is located at 28562 Oso Parkway, at the intersection of Oso and Antonio Parkways (down the walk from the car wash). Consultation appointments are always complimentary. His telephone number is 949-459-7212.

Santa Margarita Ushers in the Lenten Season with Mass Celebrated by Bishop Vann
Santa Margarita Ushers in the Lenten Season with Mass Celebrated byBishop VannSanta Margarita ushered in the Lenten season with an all-school Mass celebrated byBishop Kevin Vann of the Diocese of Orange. This is the second consecutive year theBishop has presided over the school’s Ash Wednesday Mass, this year on March 5. Vann was joined by SMCHS chaplain Father Randy Sampinto, as well as Rev. Craig Butters and Deacon Carl Swanson of San Francisco Solano Parish. During his homily, Vann emphasized Lent as a season of change and renewal. "Sometimes we get fogged up by our trouble. Lent comes to us to help us see. light that comes into our lives to help us see and live differently. This path doesn’t end on Easter, but will hopefully change us for the rest of our lives.” Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day liturgical season which precedes Holy Week and Easter Sunday. The term, Lent, comes from an Old English word for “spring” and Christians see these days as a time for a change of heart, personal repentance and an openness to the grace of a fresh beginning.“As Christians reflect on the mission of Christ in the days leading to the resurrection,it is important to focus
Page 22
on more than abstinence during this holy Lenten period. Many individuals and families within our community are struggling with economic, health and other troubling concerns. I encourage Catholics to dedicate themselves to acts of goodwill and charity; reach out to those who are struggling. As Catholics, we must work to carry on the generous, charitable and healing mission of Christ,” said Bishop Vann. During Lent, the Stations of the Cross, depicting Christ carrying his cross to his crucifixion, are set up throughout Santa Margarita’s campus. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to retrace Jesus’s journey from being condemned to his resurrection. The fivefoot crosses, built from stained redwood and labeled with bronze plaques, were constructed by senior Taylor Comroe as part of his Eagle Scoutproject during his sophomore year at SMCHS. Santa Margarita students will also attend an all-school meditation assembly on the Passion of Christ on Friday, April 4 and senior students will make the annual senior pilgrimage on April 17, walking from SMCHS to the Mission Basilica, a 13.7 mile walk lifted to God in prayer that ends with lunch and a prayer service.

8 Tips for Pet Parents on Suitable Etiquette for Pets 1. Keep barking under control: The pet parent with the barking dog is most likely not the most popular neighbor. Although barking is not always preventable, ensure pets receive proper training so they don’t bark incessantly. Avoid leaving dogs alone for long periods of time, especially outdoors. Making sure pets have enough exercise and plenty of toys to provide mental stimulation will help curb barking. For tips and tricks, consult one of Petco’s Positive Dog Trainers. All Petco dog trainers are certified in AKC Canine Good Citizen and STARR Puppy testing. The AKC STARR Puppy training is designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC Canine Good Citizen certification is a widely-recognized high standard of polite behavior and excellent preparation for therapy dog training. Each dog who completes these courses will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. 2. Don’t let cats wander: Although cats can exhibit very independent behavior, the outdoor cat that is always wandering into their neighbor’s yard, may not be welcomed with open arms. Keep cats from visiting the family next door by providing them a cozy space inside the home with enough toys to keep them mentally stimulated throughout the day. Petco’s Playscapes Modular Cat Furniture will ensure cats can satisfy their need for exploration and climbing without wanting to leave the house. 3. Keep the hair and smell at bay: When dining out with pets, ensure dogs are properly groomed to keep shedding to a minimum. A smelly dog shedding its winter coat is never pleasant near food so bathe pets regularly and use a shed control shampoo. When entertaining at home, make sure guests want to return by removing pet hair from furniture and smelling of the animal. Be sure the cat’s litter box is scooped daily and use an odor absorbent litter such as Petco Dual Odor Guard Scoopable Cat Litter. Keep small animal and reptile habitats clean and use potty pads, like Four Paws Wee Wee pads to help cut down on guests stepping in a new puppy’s “accident.” 4. Clean up waste: Walking into the front yard and stepping in a pile of poop from a neighbor’s dog can be upsetting. It may sound simple, but be sure to pick up waste when walking a dog. Products, like the eco-friendly
Earth Rated Poop Bags, easily hook to the dog’s leash making it simple to carry along on a walk. 5. Obey the rules: Keep dogs leashed at all times while at parks and in other dog-friendly public places. Excited dogs who are off-leash may run and jump on people or children or hurt themselves by running away from their pet parent. Only take a dog off-leash at a dog park that allows it. Remember to obey all marked rules at the dog park and don’t forget to close the gate behind you so other dogs can’t escape. 6. Positive reinforcement is key: Barking orders is not the way to encourage a pet to behave, especially when it is done in public. Disciplining pets in front of others can make people uncomfortable. Instead, train pets by reinforcing good behavior with loving attention or a treat. Keep a calm tone and never raise your voice, especially when in public. 7. Use table manners: Petco understands that pet parents love their animals, but others may be uncomfortable when certain people take it to the extreme, especially while at a restaurant. Never feed pets from the pet parent’s lap or plate. Not only can certain people food be dangerous for pets, but this behavior can encourage pets to beg. Always feed pets from their own food bowl away from human consumption. 8. Not everyone loves animals: It may be hard to believe, especially since pets are such a part of family life, but not everyone is an animal lover. Some people may be allergic to dogs or cats and some can even fear animals. To avoid an unpleasant run in, never let pets run up to a stranger. When taking out other types of pets like birds, reptiles or rabbits, keep in mind that others may feel uncomfortable around these animals. On the other hand, these pets may attract more attention since they are not seen in public as often, so keep them safe by always encouraging strangers to ask before petting or handling them.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically
entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 877484-9942 or 800-280-2832 or visit this Internet Web site www. USA-Foreclosure.com or www.Auction.com using the file number assigned to this case 7233.23721. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. Date: March 12, 2014 NORTHWEST TRUSTEE SERVICES, INC., as Trustee Jeffrey Mosher, Authorized Signatory 1241 E.
