Angels Win 7th Straight Josh Hamilton and Hank Conger homered as the Los Angeles Angels topped the Kansas City Royals 7-0 on Saturday for their seventh-consecutive victory. Billy Buckner (1-0) limited the Royals to just two hits over five innings for his first win since 2009. The Angels have outscored their opponents 54-18 during their longest winning streak of the young season. “It hasn’t changed the expectations at all,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “Obviously, confidence as a team builds as you start to move in the right direction. Right now these guys feel good because we’re playing the type of baseball we had hoped we would play the first month, but it didn’t appear. The current winning streak has vaulted the Angels right back into contention in the AL West. “I kind of look at that as we’re not done yet,” Conger said. “We’ve won a lot. We’ve got things rolling, but you look at the big picture. We really need to continue this momentum in order to be in the position we want to be later on down the road.” The Royals have now lost sevenstraight home games, and 15 of 19 overall.

A Beach Book for Wine Enthusiasts HAPPY GRAPES

By David White Rarely do wine enthusiasts have a summertime page-turner. There was Sideways, of course, the Pinotdrenched novel by Rex Pickett that became a blockbuster movie, but that hit bookstores nearly ten years ago. Over the past decade, many writers have tried to replicate the success of Sideways with wine-inspired fiction. But the strongest narratives have been nonfiction -- books like Benjamin Wallace’s The Billionaire’s Vinegar, which exposes the seedy underbelly of wine auctions, and Evan Dawson’s Summer in a Glass, which chronicles the history of the Finger Lakes wine region. Fortunately, oenophiles once

again have a work of fiction that’s perfect for the beach: James Conaway’s Nose, released this spring by Thomas Dunne Books. If Conaway’s name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s been writing for more than 40 years. An essayist for National Geographic Traveler, Conaway is best known in wine circles for Napa: The Story of an American Eden, released in 1990, and his 2002 follow-up, The Far Side of Eden. Both works -- juicy, social histories of America’s top winegrowing locale -- garnered much acclaim. At the center of Conway’s foray into fiction is Clyde Craven-Jones, a transplanted Briton who has become the world’s most powerful wine critic. From his adopted home in northern California, Craven-Jones -- known as “CJ” -- can move markets with the scores he publishes in his eponymous newsletter. So producers everywhere try to imitate “the Craven-Jones style” by producing big, boozy wines. (Without question, this character is loosely based on Robert M. Parker, Jr.) Early in the novel, CJ sits for a routine tasting of nine different bottles of local Cabernet Sauvignon. Included

in the blind tasting is a shiner -- an unlabeled bottle that mysteriously ended up on CJ’s doorstep. That shiner isn’t just the best in the lineup -- it’s the best California wine CJ has ever tasted. So he gives it a perfect score, an award he’s never bestowed upon a California wine. An investigation promptly begins, spearheaded by CJ’s wife, Claire. In Claire’s quest to identify the wine, readers meet a collection of misfits, villains, and unlikely heroes. Helping Claire is Les Breeden, an unemployed journalist who decides to advertise himself as a private investigator after losing his job at the local newspaper. He spends virtually all his free time at the local dive bar, a wine geeks’ paradise called Glass Act. As the investigation unfolds, readers become well acquainted with two others: Jerome Hutt, a developerturned-winery-owner whose wines are as opulent as his lifestyle; and Cotton Harrell, an ecologist-turnedwinemaker who is dedicated to biodynamic farming. Like the cheerleader and the band geek in a classic high school drama, these men serve as foils to one an-

other. Hutt is the symbol of all that’s wrong with California’s “cult” wines and Harrell represents all that’s pure about viniculture. The book hints at some serious issues, from the madness of wine ratings and the changing media landscape to the alcoholism and class divisions that quietly exist in every winemaking region. But at its heart, Nose is a straightforward mystery novel. Predictable, to be sure, but with enough twists and turns it’s nearly impossible to put down.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN LANDING AT SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS JUNE 25 – 30, 2013 Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, the first national tour of the high-flying Broadway musical Catch Me If You Can will land in Orange County at Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a limited engagement June 25 – 30. Single tickets, which start at $20, are now available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. For inquiries about group ticket savings for 10 or more, call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236. The TTY number is (714) 556-2746. The 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, June 29 will include audio description, open captioning and sign-language interpretation. Catch Me If You Can captures the astonishing true story of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer and a jet pilot – all before the age of 21. With straight-arrow FBI agent Carl Hanratty on Frank’s trail, we’re off on a jet-setting, cat-andmouse chase, as a jazzy, swingingsixties score keeps this adventure in constant motion. In the end, Agent Hanratty learns he and Frank aren’t so very different after all and Frank finds out what happens when love catches up to a man on the run. This engagement follows hot on the heels of the recent Broadway run, where the show received considerable acclaim. The New York Times exclaims, “Hot diggity! This portrait of the con artist as a young man comes to ecstatic life.” WOR Radio calls it “absolutely marvelous” and proclaims Catch Me If You Can “a real Broadway musical with showstoppers to enthrall just about everyone.” And Vanity Fair says “Catch Me will move you to live life to the fullest and dance past anything standing in your way,” and urges “Get your seats now!” Catch Me If You Can is based on Frank Abagnale’s The New York Times bestselling autobiography, published by Broadway Paperbacks, and the hit 2002 film of the same name directed by Steven Spielberg with screenplay by Jeff Nathanson and book by Frank Abagnale, Jr. Nominated for four Tony Awards® and six Drama Desk Awards, Catch Me If You Can features a Tony Award-winning creative team, with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), an irresistible score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack Page 8

Angels Will Make the Playoffs

by Jed Rigney The Los Angeles Angels are about 10 games out of first place and almost as far out of a wild-card spot. Their offense has been ordinary and their pitching wishes it could be called ordinary. But I’m telling you right now, they are making the playoffs. That’s right! You heard me (with your eyes). Yes, I mean the Los Angeles Angels. Yes, I mean the 2013 playoffs. No, I am not crazy. Just sit tight and I’ll lay it all out for you. The Texas Rangers are going to win the American League West. That’s a given. Their team is so well-built that not even a mediocre manager like Ron Washington can crash that ship. But the Angels don’t have to win the division, they just need to have the fourth- or fifth-best record in the American League to make the playoffs. So far, the Angels are off to a very slow start this season -- continuing last season’s disappointing performance. They have a losing record and just really aren’t playing that well. But what we’re seeing is the Angels at their worst. The world is filled with examples of things that started off poorly and then were huge successes. The television show Seinfeld was almost cancelled a couple Page 10

times, the band U2 was once just another alternative rock band, and The Shawshank Redemption was a box-office flop. With the talent this team has in the lineup and the pitching staff, the Angels have everything they need to not only overcome their slow start, but also to push themselves to the front of the line for a playoff spot. So, here’s how this is all going to play out: Improved Offense This season, the Angels have been in the middle of the road when it comes to scoring runs. But get ready to see this team light up scoreboards like a beer-league softball team in the next few months. They are loaded with hitting talent and can easily be one of the top runproducing teams in the league. The lineup is solid all around and also happens to have three former league MVPs in Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols and Mike Trout (give it a rest, Miguel Cabrera fans, your old-timey Triple Crown bores me).

so many pitchers under-performing, they have been hemorrhaging runs and the pitching staff is at or near the bottom in almost every old-school or new-school statistical category. So, this is an easy area of improvement. Don’t get me wrong, this pitching staff is, at best, going to be in the middle of the pack. However, with a combination of some statistical regression and the return of Jered Weaver and his golden locks, it should be able to stop the bleeding. Lackluster Competition

This isn’t just about the Angels improving, but it’s also about the quality of their competition in the race for those two wild-card spots. There just aren’t that many good teams in the American League this year. Yeah, sure, I guess any one of the Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles might also make it to the playoffs, but none of them have the Angels’ secret weapon: playing 18 games against the Houston Astros. The historically terrible Astros got put in the AL West this year and it is sure to be the gift that keeps on givImproved Pitching ing the whole year -- and for at least a couple more seasons, as well. I can This is really where the Angels only hope the AL Central teams tried have been stinking up the joint. With to lobby the Commissioner’s Office to

prove that the Astros should actually be in their division (Houston is in the Central time zone). The Oakland Athletics are also in AL West with the Angels. They have a decent team and also get to join in on beating up the Astros. But I think we all know their ride this season ends on Game 162. Historical precedent Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t even need to cite historical precedent, because: A) We’re only 50 games into the season, B) There are still over a hundred games to play, and C) A hundred games is a heck of a long time. You and I could design and build a Red Bull Flugtag flying machine in that time. Even the most casual baseball fan knows about the unpredictability of baseball and that one winning streak can turn things around for a club. Come on, we’ve all seen the movie Major League. There are many months of baseball left. Anything can happen. And, of course, I don’t know what’s going to happen exactly or what will happen in the playoffs. But I do know, for sure, the Angels will be at that dance and they’ll be ready to shake their moneymakers with the best of them.

Go Red For Women Luncheon Raises $400K The American Heart Association’s 2013 Orange County Go Red For Women Luncheon at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach drew 550 attendees and raised $400,000 for the fight against heart disease – the No. 1 killer of women. The sold-out event featured two-time Olympic swimmer Chloe Sutton as the Keynote Speaker. “Opportunities can present themselves at any time, but if you don’t take care of yourself and “heart your heart,” these opportunities can pass you up,” said Sutton, a Mission Viejo resident. “My wish is for all of the women, and men, in this room to heart their heart. To be brave and chase new goals and go on new exciting adventures. It’s not too late and each and every one of you is worth it.” The luncheon is held annually to bring Orange County women together to learn more about heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women, and empower them with information and tools to live heart-healthy. This year’s theme was “Heart Your Heart…You’re Worth It.” The half-day event kicked off with a health expo and silent auction featuring purses of different brands, shapes, sizes and color. UC Irvine Healthcare’s Dr. Shaista Malik hosted an educational session on preventing heart disease in women. Edwards Lifesciences shared the latest on integrative medical approaches to heart health. In addition to Sutton, the Luncheon program featured passion speaker Christine Wanamaker, wife, mother and heart attack survivor from Laguna Niguel. Culinary and lifestyle expert and sommelier Jamie Gwen, of KFWB News Talk 980’s “Food and Wine with Chef Jamie Gwen,” was the mistress of ceremonies. Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death in women, claiming the lives of 430,000 mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers every year. More women die of cardiovascular diseases than the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. Go Red For Women raises awareness of heart disease in women and empowers them to take charge of their health. Funds raised at the Go Red For Women Luncheon help the American Heart Association continue its support of lifesaving heart disease and stroke research. Since 1949, the American Heart Association has invested more than $3.3 billion in research. That investment has yielded or contributed to many important discoveries, including CPR, life-extending drugs, like clot-busters; pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart and lung machine and surgical techniques to repair heart defects. These and other advances make it possible for many to call themselves “survivors.” The Orange County Go Red For Women Luncheon is nationally sponsored by Macy’s and Merck and locally by Edwards Lifesciences, UC Irvine Healthcare, SMS Specialized Marketing Services, Abbott Medical Optics and Independence Bank. Additional supporters include Allergan Foundation; Dorsey & Whitney; Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher LLP; Haynes and Boone LLP; Kaiser Permanente; KPMG LLP; The Leets Consortium; Navigant; O’Melveny & Myers LLP; St. Joseph Hospital Heart and Vascular Team; Paul Hastings; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates; Snell & Wilmer; and Standard Drywall. The media sponsors are Riviera Magazine, OC Metro and Ability Magazine. For those interested in next year’s Luncheon, or in making a donation to the fight against heart disease, visit www.OCGoRed.org or call Marissa Fortuno at (949) 885-1514. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s solution to save women’s lives. With one out of three women still dying from heart disease, we are committed to fighting this No. 1 killer that is preventable. GoRedForWomen.org, a premier source of information and education, connects millions of women of all ages and gives them tangible resources to turn personal choices Page 12

When we asked local dentist Dr. Michael Te s s i e r why he is always so cheerful, He replied: “because I love my work. What Dr. Michael Tessier I do makes people feel better and look better. What could be better than that? And, almost on a daily basis, my practice is finding new ways to take care of people. ”Dr. Tessier continued. “My office uses the latest in scientific dental advancements such as toothstraightening without metal braces (“Invisalign”); Tooth-colored porcelain crowns that have no metal in them and are subsequently dramatically more attractive and natural looking than the old porcelain-baked-on-to-metal type. I also recommend Porcelain veneers that, with a minimum of tooth structure removal, improve alignment, color, and evenness of front teeth, a process that is accomplished in a remarkably small amount of time. There are so many new scientific dental innovations that modern dentistry is a pleasure for me to practice. I often use a tiny “sandblaster” to do many of our smaller fillings, allowing us to do those fillings without discomfort and subsequently without anesthetic altogether. Another remarkable tool we use is the laser .We treat canker

or cold sores with a laser, dramatically shortening their life and the discomfort they cause. We do gum surgery with a laser (Periolase), not a knife, which is much more effective and greatly reduces any discomfort. Today Removable dentures can be anchored to implants, preventing them from moving and restoring more normal chewing. Another wonderful innovation is Implant crowns, which allow us to replace missing teeth without damaging the teeth on either side of the space where the tooth was originally located. We make an intra-oral appliance that keeps the lower jaw forward during sleep, reducing sleep apnea and all the other problems that the cessation of breathing at night can cause. I’ve been in private practice in Saddleback Valley since 1980 when I got out of the Navy. When the situation arises that we need a specialist, like an oral surgeon for wisdom extraction, or endodontists (root canal specialists), or periodontists (gum specialists) to save jeopardized teeth, I’m on a “first-name” basis with the best in all of those fields, who are all close by. We’re all living longer, and we’ll need our teeth longer. So it is my pleasure to have all of these good things we can do to make that happen. It’s better to have teeth left at the end of your life, rather than life left at the end of your teeth. Dr. Michael Tessier’s Office is located at 28562 Oso parkway at the intersection of Oso and Antonio parkways in the retail center near the Carwash and Starbucks the telephone number is (949)-459-7212.

Affordable Pet Care at Home Dogs and cats provide “parents” so much love and affection. So, it’s only natural that pet parents want to return that love by taking care of all their pet’s health and wellness needs. Fortunately, now top-ofthe-line routine care can easily be provided at home using veterinarianquality pet health products, which will help save money and possibly a trip to the vet. When shopping for pet health products, it’s important to look for products that have the same active ingredients as the leading veterinarian brands, such as the new VetTrust line from PetArmor. Taking the extra time to read the labels and compare ingredients can provide significant savings. Try This at Home Help your pet live a longer, happier life with the gift of good health. Providing basic health care and picking the right vitamins and supplements can be easy with a little know-how: Supplemental care. The diets of cats and dogs can benefit from vitamin and mineral supplements. A high-quality supplement helps support immune health. Support joint mobility. As pets get older, they may start to slow down and have trouble with stairs.

Joint health products, such as VetTrust Joint Health Chewable Tablets and Soft Chews, contain glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM for maximum cartilage support to help pets maintain a normal, active lifestyle. Time for a trim. Nail trimming is an important part of a regular dog grooming routine. Long nails often break, leading to pain and infection. Purchase nail scissors from your local pet store then gently trim the tip of your dog’s nail. Take care not to clip too far down, or you could cause bleeding, then file nails, if necessary. Brush up on Routine Care Many pet parents already provide routine care to their cats and dogs. Savvy owners know grooming is a great way to shower extra attention on pets. Using vet-quality products also helps let the caring begin. Clean up their act. Proper grooming is essential to the physical, mental and emotional well-being of both dogs and cats. Brush longhaired breeds at least twice per week. Those with shorter hair may not need to be brushed as often. Baths should be given if dirt or odor becomes noticeable. Cats usually don’t need regular bathing, unless something unusual happens, as they

tend to groom themselves. However, dogs should be bathed at least once every three months. All about the ears. Regular maintenance of the ears is essential for both cats and dogs. In fact, ear infections are the second most common veterinarian diagnosis. Products, such as an Ear Wash, clean away debris while hindering the buildup of bacteria. Medicated Ear Rinse will kill both yeast and odor-causing bacteria while gently cleaning away dirt and wax. Beware of burnt paws. Prevent burns and blisters on pet paws by avoiding walking your pet on hot

pavement or sand. If you notice irritation or redness, apply a conditioning lotion with colloidal oatmeal to moisturize and restore healthy paws. People love to spend time with their pets and caring for basic needs at home provides extra bonding time. It can also ease any pet anxiety or financial strain extra veterinary visits may cause. Of course, an annual visit to the veterinarian is recommended for a nose-to-tail checkup and vaccinations. Good care with quality at-home products can mean many more long, happy years together.

and grateful. It seems unreal that four years have gone by, but I am so proud to be part of such a wonderful graduating class and to be an Eagle for life. What did it take to get where you are today? I have a more amazing family than I could have ever asked for, especially my parents, who have always inspired and encouraged me. I owe so much to the intelligent and generous teachers who were willing to help me learn instead of just pursue a grade and to my swim coaches who always told us that having integrity is more important than winning. My friends have made high school fun and I’m excited to see what is in store for everyone. What is your favorite high school memory? I enjoyed IB Sail in August before junior year. It was a unique experience that few high schoolers get to have and an opportunity to enjoy California nature with my classmates. I also really appreciate the friendships I was able to make from taking Latin and swimming for four years. The countless good memories I have remind me every day of how blessed I am to have been able to attend Santa Margarita.

What are your career aspirations? I will be attending The University of Notre Dame in the fall and plan to double major in political science and biological studies, with a minor in journalism. At least, that’s my plan right this second. I have the happy problem of being interested in too many subjects. However, I am sure that wherever my career takes me; I want to make life better for other people along the way. Do you have any advice for underclassmen? My advice for underclassmen would be to do the things that put you outside of your comfort zone. Some of my best memories in high school have come out of doing things that I was initially afraid to do, because it was something that I had never experienced before or because I thought it would be difficult and I was afraid I would fail. Don’t wait until you feel ready or comfortable to take a risk—you will never be ready—just take the risk. What is your favorite high school memory? It is so difficult to choose just one

favorite memory from my time at Santa Margarita. The senior Model United Nations trip to Beijing was such an incredible experience. It introduced me to a culture so different from my own, strengthened my friendships, and cemented my passion for international relations. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to travel with MUN.

What are your career aspirations? I plan to major in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs with a certificate in Neuroscience. I want to become the first Asian-American US Supreme Court Justice. Do you have any advice for underclassmen? Friedrich Nietzsche once said: “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Go about every day with a certain purpose in mind because it adds meaning and a sense of fulfillment to your day. And let me say that Facebook and sleep deprivation sure doesn’t help with this. How does it feel to be one of the salutatorians of your class? I feel truly honored to be one of the co-salutatorians for the best graduating class in SM’s history: Class of 2013. Throughout the course of four years, the 382 members of our class have loved and supported each other in so many different ways, and the prospect of addressing them at graduation is very humbling. How do you think your experiences here at Santa Margarita will help you in the future? Faith has played an instrumental role in shaping who I am and strengthening me as an individual. I’m grateful to Santa Margarita for fostering an environment that places faith, academics, and service at the forefront of the school’s mission, and I will continue to embody the values I’ve acquired at SM in my future. Nicole Minkina Salutatorian GPA: 4.88 College: Yale University Academic honors: National Merit Scholar, IB Full Diploma, AP Scholar Activities: Speech and Debate, MUN, Research at the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs at UCI, ETV, ASB, Choir Service: Next Step, Global Drug Prevention Initiative Athletics: Varsity Tennis (4 years) What do you want to major in? science and foreign policy, but I’m not sure if that’s what I want to pursue in college. I’m planning on going into college with a really open mind, and hopefully discovering something that I’m really passionate about. How does it feel to be the valedictorian/salutatorian of your class? Looking back on past valedictorians and salutatorians and reading about them in the school newspaper when I was an underclassman, I never expected that I would be in their position when I graduated. Needless to say, I’m really excited to share this honor with my cosalutatorians, who are also some of my closest friends. What did it take to get where you are today? I don’t think I could have made it through all of the stress and pressure that naturally accompanied high school without my friends, especially those with whom I have grown close over the past two years at SM. Even when I had difficult assignments that kept me up all night, there was always a friend there (or several) to laugh with over Facebook at 3 in the morning. What is your favorite high school memory? The MUN China trip was probably my favorite high school memory. Going to the DMZ in Korea, climbing the Great Wall of China, visiting Buddhist temples, and eating lunch with a local Chinese family - all of these things and more gave me such an interesting, cultural experience.

OC WOMEN PHILANTHROPISTS celebrate the annual award of $130,000 to six selected charities Impact Giving, an Orange County women’s collective giving organization, awarded six grants totaling $130,000 at its fourth annual “Making the Impact” Awards Ceremony on May 8 at the Irvine Marriott. Recipients included four local and two international nonprofit organizations working to solve social problems. They are: • Just In Time for Foster Youth – $40,000 to provide 90 young adults who have aged out of the San Diego County foster care system. The grant will provide emergency services and build a foundation of supportive relationships and life skills education. This was the third year the organization has received an Impact Giving grant, and it was the largest grant ever awarded by the collective. jitfosteryouth.org • KidWorks Community Development Corporation – $13,000 for an afterschool learning center that provides a safe, education-centered alternative to gang life for 72 children in a compromised Santa Ana neighborhood. kidworksonline.org • Access OC – $20,000 to fill the gap left by the absence of a county hospital (Orange County is California’s only county without one). The grant will

help uninsured Orange County patients receive urgently needed surgical procedures, freeing them from chronic pain and improving their quality of life so they can continue to work and care for their families. accessoc.org • Families Forward – $15,000 to help at-risk Orange County families overcome homelessness, teaching them long-term self-sufficiency by assisting them to secure housing and providing them with personal financial management education. This is the second year the nonprofit has received a grant from Impact Giving. families-forward.org • Chhahari, Inc., – $17,000 for solar panel and battery storage systems – one for Chhahari, a home for 22 at-risk and orphaned children, and another at their nearby 400-student school in Kathmandu, Nepal, where reliable electrical power can be limited to 5 hours per day. www.chhahari.org • Lotus Outreach International – $25,000 to purchase bicycles for 544 at-risk and exploited girls in rural Cambodia, providing them safe transportation to school, where completing their education can mean the difference between poverty and self-reliance. This is the second year the nonprofit has

received a grant from Impact Giving. lotusoutreach.org Impact Giving founding partner and grant chair Sam Dawson announced the six recipients, pointing out that 44 grant proposals were initially submitted and winnowed down to 18 semi-finalists before the final six grantees were selected. Founded in 2009, Impact Giving aims to multiply the impact of individual women’s giving by pooling their philanthropic dollars and effect collaborative and sustainable change in the nonprofits they support. Based in Orange County,

Calif., Impact Giving’s partners each give $1,150 to the philanthropic pool. Partners take active roles in the grantee selection process and vote to determine the awards. Karen Wilson, Impact Giving chair and co-founder, noted, “We are now in our fourth year of grant making and have 140 partners to date. We have awarded a total of $475,000 to 26 nonprofit organizations –15 local and 11 international. “We believe we can do more together than we can individually.”

Angels, Anaheim working toward new deal By Zack Meisel The Angels and the city of Anaheim have commenced discussions on a pact that would anchor the team to the town for the foreseeable future and perhaps also provide the club a renovated ballpark. The Angels are currently tied to the city through the 2016 season, after which the team’s lease with Angel Stadium is set to expire. “The City of Anaheim and Angels Baseball have entered into discussions relating to the current lease agreement,” Angels president John Carpino said in a statement. “These discussions, which are in the early stages, are focused on maintaining a highquality fan experience for many years to come.” Arte Moreno purchased the franchise in May 2003. Angels hit 4 HRs, beat Royals 5-4 Joe Blanton got some backing from the Angels’ bats and bullpen, and finally got his first win of the season. Mike Trout and Albert Pujols hit solo home runs, and Mark Trumbo hit a two-run shot to help Los Angeles beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 Thursday night. With Jered Weaver set to return to the Angels’ rotation, Blanton could have been feeling pressure after going winless in his first nine starts. “I’ve been doing it a long time, why should I feel a sense of urgency now,” Blanton said. The right-hander held the Royals to seven hits and two runs in 6 1-3 innings. Trumbo put the Angels up 5-2 in the eighth with his team-leading 11th homer before the Royals made it interesting. “I thought we showed a lot of life at the end of the game,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “We’ve got a four-game set, and their closer came in and had to throw close to 40 pitches in the first game of the set, and I thought we had a good approach. Any time you can put the tying run at second base and the winning run at first base in the ninth inning, you’ve done something, especially when you’ve been down three.” Ervin Santana (3-4), who spent 12

seasons in the Angels’ organization before being traded during the offseason to the Royals, struck out eight without a walk, but allowed five runs and eight hits - four of which were homers. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. The Purchaser shall have no further recourse against the Mortgagor, the Mortgagee, or the Mortgagee’s Attorney.
