Just like skipping through the sprinkler when the sun is shining bright, homemade shaved ice offers sweet relief on a hot afternoon. Plus, making this frozen favorite is a fun family activity. “Celebrate the flavors of summer with Easy Fruity Shaved Ice,” said Mary Beth Harrington of the McCormick Kitchens. “The secret is in the flavorful syrups, which come together in just a few minutes with less than five ingredients, including fruit extracts and food colors.” Add raspberry, orange or strawberry extract to a simple syrup and mix in a few drops of vibrant food color to create this classic frozen treat. But don’t stop there. Bring the family together and let their imaginations run wild as they create their own personalized color and flavor combinations. Here are a few tips from the McCormick Kitchens to get you started: • Make It Snow At Home: If you don’t have a shaved ice maker, crush ice to a snowy texture in your blender or by wrapping a plastic bag of ice in a kitchen towel and smashing it with a rolling pin or mallet. Not something one wants to hear… “While gas grills contribute to a higher number of home fires than their charcoal counterparts, all grills pose a risk for fires and burns says Fire Chief Sam DiGiovanna.” Firefighters respond to multiple structure fires this time of year that involve barbeques in courtyards, terraces, patios and decks. Grills should be placed well away from the home and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. If there is a fire involving grilling equipment, any fuel for the fire should not be near the home or any other structure. Some other grilling safety tips from the NFPA are: Propane and

char grills should only be used outdoors. Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area. Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. Never leave your grill unattended. Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before igniting it. Check the gas tank hose for leaks before using it for the first time each year. If you smell gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call the fire department. Do not move the grill. If the flame goes out, turn the grill and gas off and wait at least 15 minutes before re-lighting it. Charcoal grills - There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to use. Charcoal chimney
starters allow you to start the charcoal using newspaper as a fuel. If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire. Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources. There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use. Travel in a Bottle HAPPY GRAPES
By David White Now that Independence Day is behind us, the summer is in full swing. Barbeques, hikes, and lazy days at the pool abound. And most of us are itching to leave town -- eager to spend some time away from work, escaping from it all. Wine enthusiasts are fortunate in that we get to go somewhere virtually every night. How? As food, wine, and spirits expert Anthony Dias Blue once explained, “wine is a passport to the world.” Consider Muscadet, a French white wine produced around the city of Nantes, where the Loire River flows
into the Atlantic Ocean. Made from a grape called “Melon de Bourgogne,” the wines are marked by subtle-yetprecise aromas of apples, limes, and seawater. Thanks to extended contact with the dead yeast cells left over after fermentation, Muscadet is also known for exhibiting a creamy mouthfeel. Nantes’ local cuisine takes full advantage of the Loire River and the Atlantic, so unsurprisingly, these wines are perfect with shellfish and seafood dishes. I’ve never been to Nantes, but every time I open a bottle of Muscadet, I’m taken to the coast of western France – and find myself craving mussels and fries. Similarly, whenever I sip Australian Shiraz, I picture myself at a campfire in the Outback with a giant slab of beef. The list goes on. Rioja inspires visions of a tapas crawl in the Spanish city of Logroño. When I drink Fiano -- a crisp, Italian white -- I find myself in southern Italy enjoying a fresh
caprese salad. Beer might be the most popular pairing for bratwurst, but when I drink Riesling, I envision myself in Germany enjoying pan-fried sausage over sauerkraut with spicy mustard. Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc takes me back to those perfect evenings I’ve had in wine country dining al fresco with friends. Wine is also a connection to the past. I’ll never forget the evening some friends and I opened a perfectly cellared bottle of Bordeaux from 1919. For starters, the wine still had life in it – savory, dark fruit was backed by notes of roasted nuts, eucalyptus, and cedar. More importantly, though, the wine inspired a conversation about the lives of those who made it. The Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919, officially ending World War I. So that wine was made while cleaning up from the wreckage of the first global war and hoping for a brighter future. That experience can easily be replicated. Many fortified wines -- think
Port and Madeira -- can literally age for centuries. Opening one is like opening a time capsule. This romanticism -- the understanding that wine is a window to other places and cultures -- isn’t unique. A few years ago, I interviewed David Denton, a wine educator and sommelier in Washington, D.C. In explaining how he developed his passion for wine, Denton eloquently summarized this very concept. “Wine is like travel in a bottle,” he explained. “For the cost of a bottle of wine, you can escape to somewhere exotic. You can get lost in the label, thinking about where the wine came from and who made it.” Vacation season has arrived. But if you’re into wine, there’s no need to wait for your next adventure. Local children brave heat to glean for food bank by Izzy Whiting At the beginning of hot day in July, 40 children, ranging in ages from 2 to 12, braved the heat, dirt and weeds to participate in gleaning vegetables to help the Second Harvest Food Bank. The children and their parents were supporting a planned service activity for the children from the local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Irvine Incredible Edible Park is planted, maintained and gleaned by approximately 6,000 volunteers, mostly kids, each year and provides approximately 500,000 lbs. of food or 2 million meals for families in need. The children arrived at the field in the morning on a day when the high was expected to reach 93º F. Sam Caruthers of Second Harvest Food Bank was directing the volunteers by showing the kids the correct size for the bell peppers, yellow squash and zucchini ready for picking. Mr. Caruthers was a great cheerleader and was consistently praising all children’s efforts large and small. Sometimes weeds larger than the vegetable plants made finding ready vegetables difficult. Mr Caruthers admonished the children to pull as many as they could, joking that they couldn’t go home until everyone had pulled at least twenty. Kyle Myers said of the experience afterward, “It was easy. All you did was pick it, put it in the bucket, and carry it to the truck.” Although many children disliked the heat there was a smile on every face. Kimball Leung said, “It was good. I want to come back and pick watermelons.”

Kathy Tanner, the Mormon Primary president for the local congregation, explained that she had chosen gleaning activity over a pool party, “It gave the kids a chance to get their hands dirty, to make a difference and see that difference. They could see the truck and
bins that they had filled with food and hear Mr. Caruthers tell them they had provided 10,000 meals. 10,000 people will be able to eat because of what we did.” The 2500 lbs of food collected will be distributed to families in need the following Saturday.

Coto Resident Aria Latos Wins Gold at US Trampoline and Tumbling Championships Coto Resident Aria Latos wins a 10-year-old National Champion Gold Medal at the USA Gymnastics won the Gold Medal in the “Double Finals in Kansas City, Missouri. The Mini” event with a score of 58.1, a Bronze Medal for “Tumbling” and finished 5th overall in the Trampoline Competition. This year over 2000 young athletes competed in the event in Kansas City. Aria is member of the World Élite Gymnastics Team in Rancho Santa Margarita where she competes in both Artistic Competitions and Trampoline a n d Tu m b l i n g . Trampoline events involve athletes using trampolines that can propel them up to 30 feet
in the air, during which they can perform single, double and twisted somersaults. Tumbling utilizes elevated spring runways that enable athletes to jump at heights over 10 feet and execute a variety of acrobatic maneuvers. Doublemini competition involves the athlete making a short run and leaping onto a small twolevel trampoline. The athlete will then perform an aerial maneuver and dismount onto enjoys art, riding horses, acting in a landing mat. Elks Lodge Hosts Special Needs Guests at Summer Sock Hop Mission Viejo / Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge (“Elks Lodge”) summer sock hop had 233 registered Special Guests and their care takers served by twenty two (22) volunteers. The event started with a causal summer lunch of hot dogs, chips, cookies and lemonade. Like a hot rod on a summer day, the event shifted into high gear when the musical group High Hopes started their performance. High Hopes is a musical ensemble from Hope University in Santa Ana. The talented musical group, made up entirely of developmentally challenged men and women, is world renowned and has performed on national TV. Sandy Jacobs, a regular Elk volunteer and spouse of Elk of the Year Jack High Hopes Musical Group. Jacobs said, “The Special Guests Sock Hop is one of the most rewarding events hosted by the Elks Lodge. The music and dancing is enjoyed by all of the Special Guests and Elk volunteers. Most of the guests are repeat attendees who look forward to meeting old friends. Those old friends include many of the Elks Lodge volunteers. The annual event is one of two parties held by the Elks Lodge for the developmentally challenged men, women and children of Saddleback Valley communities. The second event is the very popular Elks Lodge Christmas Party. Funding for both events comes from the many social functions held throughout the year by the Elks Lodge and from the Elks Lodge Bingo Committee. The Mission Viejo / Saddleback Elks Lodge No. 2444, celebrating fortythree (43) years of service to the Saddleback Valley communities, is one of ten lodges in the Orange Coast District of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) whose headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois. The Children’s Bureau Clambake steamed up fun and much-needed funds on at scenic Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine where more than 200 guests attended the popular charity event that featured inspired cuisine, dancing under the stars to the Susie Hansen Band, silent and live auction, wine pull, heads or tails game and other clam-filled surprises. The night raised $190,000 net for Children’s Bureau’s child abuse prevention programs in Orange County. Attendees enjoyed a de’cor with hues of ocean turquoise, shades of sandy browns, scattered seashells, hemp ropes, and fishing nets which brought of bit of the shore to the setting. The hanging twinkling white lights created an intimate yet festive atmosphere for the outdoor space and soft throw blankets provided warmth and added to the cozy ambiance. The evening started off with an assortment of tray passed hors d’oeuvres which included Grilled Chipotle Chicken and Spicy Avocado Mousse, Pancake of Smoked Salmon, Creme Frache and Caviar Coconut Shrimp with Spicy Mango Dipping Sauce, Crispy Mushroom Stuffed with Boursin Herb Cheese and Spicy Puttanesca. Guests were also privy to some amazing adult beverClambake Event Co-Chairs Peggy Goldwater Clay, Brenda Walters ages - signature cocktails were provided by Tito’s Handmade Vodka; wine and Barbara Eidson was donated by Gnarly Head and beer donated by The Best of Belgium. Dinner was extra special; a scrumptious salad of Field Greens with Roasted Pears, candied Pecans, Crumbled Gorgonzola Cheese with Balsamic Vinaigrette was the first course then for the entre, guests enjoyed Grilled and Marinated Filet with Corn Risotto, Snap Peas and Carrots, and a Grilled Lobster Tail with Lemon Beurre Blanc Sauce. Dessert was a selection of the Chef’s Selection of Mini Pastries, and a fun Fireside “Make Your Own S’mores”. Palm Terrace Catering and Private Events at the Island Hotel Newport Beach certainly wowed the crowd with their epicurean delights for the evening. A silent auction and opportunity drawing had everyone on their toes but what put the fun in the evening were the games folks were able to play. The Wine Pull was very popular as guests were able to pull one cork for $25 or 3 for $50. Each bottle of wine was valued at $25 or more. There were over 70 bottles of wine donated to the wine pull and one bottle, the grand prize, was valued at $150. There was also the Heads or Tails game. Guests who purchased a clam-shell necklace were able to participate. A virtual coin was tossed (via an iPad) and guests either put their hands over their head or behind their back. One by one guests were eliminated until one person was standing. The winning prize of $300 went to Terry Gene. Chair of Children’s Bureau’s OC John and Amy Von Der Ahe The Live Auction was very busy with six packages up for grabs. On the Trustees David Madison and his menu were a four day and three night trip at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort wife Nicole and Spa, Walt Disney World with airfare, it was sold to Mary Tran and Carolina Medina for $4,000. Lou and Maurice Nieman brought home the three night stay at a Silver Strike condo at the Deer Valley Resort, Utah for $4,750. A stunning men’s Corum Admiral’s Cup Luxury Timepiece sold twice, the lucky folks who picked it up were Steve and Sheryl Burke for $4,750 and Robert Shekell for $4,750. The seven night Tooker Vacation Villa in Cabo went to Steve and Nicole Joseph it sold for $4,800. Tony Fanticola was the lucky winner of the Island Hotel Newport Beach Package along with a complimentary dinner for six people, including Manager’s Choice of wine in the Palm Terrace Restaurant - he walked away with that for $1,450 and the two night Pelican Hill Bungalow and Breakfast Getaway went to Wendy and John Kostrencich for $1,350. Carman Wimsatt, a Children’s Bureau parent, shared her inspirational story in working with the agency’s foster care and adoption program. Children’s Bureau helps more than 5,000 at-risk children and parents each year throughout Orange County with a variety of programs and services such as in-home counseling, parent education classes, collaborative participation in family resource centers, home visiting health programs and more. eBay Exact (iOS) Lets You Buy Custom 3D-Printed Goods on the Go
eBay has announced a new iOS app called eBay Exact that lets you buy customizable 3D-printed merchandise on the go. You can download the new addition now directly from Apple’s App Store. The products in question are available from three leading 3D printing companies, according to eBay: Brooklyn-based MakerBot, France-based Sculpteo, and Toronto, Canadabased Hot Pop Factory. Squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity and pharynx accounts for over 34,000 cases per year in the U.S.75% of all head and neck cancers begin in the oral cavity, with 30% of those originating on the tongue, 17% in the lip, and 14% in the floor of the mouth.75% of these cancers are related to alcohol and tobacco use, but a significant 25% occur in non-smokers or non-drinkers. The rise of HPV positive individuals among younger, non-smoking patients under the age of 50 is the fastest growing segment of the oral cancer population. Cancer, itself, is not contagious, but the human papilloma virus is contagious, but the lesions of several strains have a predisposition to become cancerous.” But” says Dr. Tessier, “regular checkups from your dentist keep you free from these diseases and give you a sparkling smile as a bonus. Like all diseases, early detection is a big key to control and cure. When our office cleans and examines your teeth every six months,
that’s a great opportunity to do a soft tissue exam, along with examining the teeth, the bite, and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) condition. We look for changes or irregularities in the soft tissue, spots, white patches, or raised (hyperplastic) tissue areas. We carefully check for lumps deeper in the tissues, in the lips or cheek tissues. “Of course we always give your tongue a close examination, particularly the sides of your tongue,” says Dr. Tessier. “We routinely and carefully examine the tongue with a mouth mirror and having our patient say, “Ahhh”, not “Ehhh”, allows better visualization of the back of the throat. And, the doctor adds” the lymph nodes should be checked to see If there is cancer growing somewhere- a malignancy- in the head and neck region. The lymph nodes will try to collect or filter the metastasizing cells out of the blood-stream. They will become swollen, sometimes visually apparent, and/or tender to the touch. There are lymph nodes along the border of the lower jaw, or a chain of them running down the front of the neck, or more at the base of the skull. Early detection is the name of the game,.” We’re all living longer, and we’ll need good health to achieve that.. So it is my pleasure to have all of these good things we can do to make that happen. Target Symphony in the Cities offers marvelous music in the outdoors Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and friends to the 9th annual Target Symphony in the Cities concert series on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park on Saturday, July 27. This year, the city is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its 1988 incorporation and the 50th anniversary of the community. Top-notch entertainment, activities, food and fun will cater to all ages during the Prelude in the Park at 4 p.m. and Pacific Symphony concert at 7 p.m. The Wimberley Bluegrass Band kicks things off at 4 p.m. playing the traditional sounds of bluegrass music. The group is made up of four teenage siblings whose vocal and instrumental talents on the guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin will amaze and entertain the masses. During this exciting event, Korean War veterans will be honored for their service in a special presentation at 5:15 p.m., which will be followed by the Laguna Swing Society and SwingSet at 5:30 p.m. Also at 5:30 p.m. is the popular “Musical Playground” with a bevy of fun, interactive and hands-on activities for children. The playground gives kids the chance to
make an instrument, play a drum, meet a musician and take part in a conducting clinic with the evercharming Maestro Carl St. Clair. During the Prelude in the Park, 4th and 5th grade students from the Santa Ana String Group and Think Together will show off their newly acquired skills on the violin
at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Then, playing familiar and well-loved tunes by Shostakovich, Massenet, Strauss and American legends John Williams, Leonard Bernstein and John Phillip Sousa, the Pacific Symphony takes center stage at 7 p.m. Led by Maestro St. Clair, the symphony also performs

Are You Prepared in Case of an Emergency? Register for the Community Emergency Preparedness Academy that begins September 4, 2013 – Hurry, Space Limited! (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) – In the event of a major disaster or even a more common emergency, do you know what to do to care for yourself and family until help arrives? The City of Rancho Santa Margarita will host a free 8 week Community Emergency Preparedness Academy (CEPA) to provide residents with critical information and skills to care for themselves, their families and neighbors when emergency responders may not be able to respond. Topics include Earthquake Preparedness, Disaster Plans, Fire Safety and Fire Extinguishers, Wildfire Preparedness, First Aid, CPR and Defibrillators, Light Search and Rescue, and more. After completing all sessions, participants will be trained how to prepare themselves, their homes Page 16
and their families for emergencies; and how to help their community during larger emergencies. The course begins on Wednesday, September 4th and continues on Wednesday evenings for eight weeks, with the last class held on October 23rd. Classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center, located at 22232 El Paseo, next to City Hall. (In place of the October 16th class will be CPR and First Aid training on Saturday, October 12th.) Meals (box lunches from area restaurants) and cold drinks will be provided prior to class at 6:00 PM. Class size is limited to 25 members and registration is required. The course is free and open to all adult residents of Rancho Santa Margarita who are able to attend the entire program. Teenagers attending with parents are also welcome. Hoag Hospital Irvine’s designation as a Cardiovascular Receiving Center (CVRC) went into effect Monday, July 1, and is a reflection of Hoag’s longstanding reputation throughout Orange County as an excellent provider of heart and vascular care, said Robert Braithwaite, president and CEO at Hoag. “This is something we’ve been working toward since we opened Hoag Hospital Irvine in September 2010, and is something the Irvine community has wanted,” Braithwaite said. “Earning this status would not have been possible without the entire Hoag organization coming together,” he continued, noting that Hoag had to go through the full application process for CVRC status after it took over the campus from its previous operator, Tenet, and closed the facility for two years. The CVRC status means that Hoag Hospital Irvine now is one of only 13 hospitals in Orange County, including Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, which can directly receive patients via ambulance who are suffering a heart attack and need immediate attention. Prior to July 1, such patients in the Irvine area had to be routed by
paramedics to other hospitals farther away with the CVRC designation. The status of CVRC is re-evaluated every one to two years, and is awarded by the Orange County Emergency Medical Services (OCEMS) following an exhaustive site survey and review of an application and supporting documents. Hoag Hospital Irvine’s designation as a Cardiovascular Receiving Center is effective for one year through June 30, 2014. Hospitals with CVRC status must meet a variety of standards of care for patients suffering life-threatening heart attacks, as designated by the American Heart Association and other agencies such as OCEMS, whose mission is to appropriately and efficiently respond to emergencies throughout the county. Because time is of the essence when serious heart events occur, Cardiac Receiving Centers must have an emergency department, cardiac cath lab, cardiologists on staff and a cardiovascular surgeon who work together as a team to help preserve a patient’s heart within 90 minutes following the onset of chest pain. Teams at CVRC-designated hospitals must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help patients who are in the throes of high-risk heart attacks known as STEMI, which stands for ST-elevation myocardial infarction. ST elevations refer to abnormal findings on an electrocardiogram. Patients taken to a CVRC-
designated hospital such as Hoag Hospital Irvine are rapidly assessed and triaged, and depending on the patient’s diagnosis and condition, he or she may have immediate angiography, angioplasty or even bypass surgery if necessary. As a reminder to the community, anyone having chest pains or other warning signs of a heart attack should immediately call 911. Emergency medical services (EMS) staff can begin treatment when they reach you, are trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped and can transport you more quickly to receive hospital care. Hoag Hospital Irvine is an extension of Hoag’s services in Newport Beach and its seven Hoag Health Centers

Top Vacation Roadtrip Spills and How to Clean Them You’ve returned home from the summer vacation. You start to unpack the car and realize it’s not just the people who look like they’ve been on the road forever. Between wear and tear and food and drink spills, the car seats look like they’ve been run over. It’s all got to be cleaned up, but where do you start? The local leather experts from Fibrenew, a leather, vinyl and plastics refurbishing specialist, warn car owners of the Top Vacation Roadtrip Spills and arm them with The Do’s and Don’ts of Road Trip Clean Up. “Once the summer vacation season kicks off, we receive a lot of calls from car owners wondering what can be done about the damage to their leather and vinyl seats,” says Michael Wilson, CEO of Fibrenew. Kids and adults unsuccessfully trying to juggle food, drinks and toys on the road can cause damage to car seats, but often times the worst problems are caused by car owners who don’t know the best ways to clean up a mess and repair a problem.” BEFORE THE ROADTRIP BEGINS Before you pack the car for the big trip, it’s a good idea to clean and protect the seats. Dirt, oil and dust that get on leather and vinyl seats acts like a fine sandpaper, slowly wearing down the vinyl and the
protective coating on the leather, making them more susceptible to damage. Once it’s weakened, leather and vinyl is more likely to crack and fade and it won’t hold up well to everyday wear and tear. Buy a good leather cleaning kit, which includes leather cleaning and protection cream, or a vinyl cleaning kit, which typically includes just a cleaner, and make a protective detour before the trip begins. It will save time and money later on. You should also pack an absorbent towel or two in addition to one or two rolls of paper towels. TOP VACATION ROADTRIP SPILLS (and how to clean them!)* 1) FOOD OR DRINK STAIN: The kids eat a pizza slice or burger and while part of it lands in the mouth the rest goes on themselves and the car seat. The drink follows. DON’T use window/mirror cleaner because it contains alcohol which will dissolve and destroy the surface coating on your leather. DO use a damp towel to wipe up the mess and a dry one to finish the job. Fully-finished leather is pretty much water resistant, so a little spill isn’t going to hurt as long as you clean it up quickly, before it soaks through. 2) INK : Some of the bright green marker gets to color the skin of the dragon
in the coloring book. Some of it misses and now the corner of the car seat looks like the dragon. DON’T use dish soap or hair spray to remove the marks. The degreasing agents in dish soap can permanently de-gloss and damage the top coating on the leather surface. Hair spray, another commonly recommended remedy, has alcohol in it and will ruin the surface coating on your leather. DO use a soft sponge and specialized leather cleaner. Buy it at most leather furniture retailers – but, for serious problems, your local Fibrenew franchise can help. 3) NAIL POLISH: You try out the new bright red polish hoping to look good on the beach but end up polishing some of the car seat. DON’T use nail polish remover because it will take all of the color out of your leather and leave a bleached spot bigger than the nail polish spot. DO, once again, use a soft sponge and leather cleaner. However you will most likely have to call a professional for help to get rid of this stain. 4) ANIMAL SCRATCHES AND PICKS: FIDO the dog gets all excited when you get to the rest area and scratches the car seat jumping out the door. DON’T touch up the spots with shoe
polish or markers because it makes an ugly, sticky mess. DO try to reduce the visibility of the problem by snipping off the cotton interior strands that often get pulled out when leather gets picked. DO use a hair dryer and massage minor scratches with leather cleaner to try to rub it out. Call a professional to fix larger scratches and holes - this is not a DIY kind of job. Once you get home, it’s a good idea to clean out the car, especially if you have been at the beach. The sand and salt from the beach can not only damage your leather and vinyl seats, over time it will be ground into the carpet and become almost impossible to remove. That means the salty sea smell will stick around as well. Use the leather cleaner mentioned above on the seats. In most cases, a good vacuuming will remove the sand and salt. If sea water found its way into the car and really soaked the carpet, it might be wise to get the carpets washed as well.

My final cost for $20 in cosmetics was $7. 5. Don’t keep it if you don’t like it. If cosmetics that you purchase at the drugstore or grocery store don’t meet your quality standards, return them for a refund. Keeping products you will never use is very expensive. Prep Time: 30 minutes, at least 1 hour freeze time Makes: 4 servings 2 squares (2 ounces) white chocolate baking squares 1/2 cup prepared vanilla frosting 4 Blue Bunny Premium Birthday Party Ice Cream Sandwiches 2 medium firm kiwi, peeled 1 3/4 cups halved small strawberries (or large strawberries cut into chunks) 3/4 cup fresh blueberries 3 tablespoons peach preserves (pineapple, mango or apricot could be substituted) Grate or shred white chocolate with box grater onto large plate. Thinly spread frosting on one side of one ice cream sandwich, keeping remaining sandwiches in freezer. Press frosting side into white chocolate, spread frosting on unfrosted side; turn and press into white chocolate. Return to freezer; repeat with remaining ice cream sandwiches. Freeze at least 1 hour, until solid. (May be kept covered in freezer overnight.) Thirty minutes before serving, cut kiwi into thick slices, cutting slices into quarters. Place in medium bowl along with other fruit. Heat preserves in microwave-safe bowl, just until melted (20 seconds in a 1250 watt microwave), breaking up large pieces of fruit. Pour over fruit and toss to coat; chill 15 to 20 minutes. Remove prepared ice cream sandwiches from freezer, cut each into bitesize squares; arrange with glazed fruit in 4 dessert bowls or plates.

Prep Time: 10 minutes, at least 3 hours freeze time Cook Time: 30 seconds to 1 minute each Makes: 8 servings 8 1/2-cup scoops Blue Bunny Premium Caramel Fudge Brownie Sundae Ice Cream 2 large eggs 2 tablespoons sugar 1 cup panko bread crumbs Vegetable oil, for frying 8 lollipop sticks Butterscotch, chocolate or caramel sauce, optional Whipped cream, optional Place ice cream scoops on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and freeze for at least 2 hours. In soup bowl or other medium-sized bowl, beat eggs and sugar with a fork until well blended. Place panko crumbs in another soup bowl or medium-sized bowl. Dip the ice cream scoops into egg mixture, then roll in the panko bread crumbs, coating completely. Freeze 1 hour. Heat oil in a deep-fat fryer to 375°F. Fry ice cream scoops, one at a time, until golden brown; 30 seconds to 1 minute. Remove from oil and insert a lollipop stick. Top with a drizzle of butterscotch, chocolate or caramel sauce and a dollop of whipped cream, if desired. Serve immediately.
