Must-Have Fall Wedding Fashion Autumn is one of the most popular seasons to host a wedding, and this year just may be the most fashionable Fall for brides yet! When it comes to aisle style, brides planning to say, “I do” in 2013 and 2014 are in for an absolute treat! Innovative, yet dreamy, trends floated down the Fall 2013 bridal runways. From the illusion neckline to utterly romantic cap sleeves, pearls and unexpected textures, these trends will leave you looking glamorously chic on your big day! Illusion Necklines The illusion neckline is one of the hottest trends warming up the runways this Fall. This ultra-feminine design is perfect for any body type and adds an aura of mystery to your look. These delicate, unusual necklines can be subtle and unembellished, lacy and refined, or glittery and overthe-top. The options can be as unique as the bride herself! Illusion necklines were trending on the runways of Amsale, Christos, Romona Keveza, Vera Wang and Reem Acra. Cap Sleeves Utterly romantic and sweetly
feminine, cap sleeves are taking fashion by storm! This stylish element made a dramatic appearance on bridal fashion runways this season. Perfect for brides that want the modesty of having their shoulders ever so alluringly covered as they walk down the aisle. We love the fact that strapless gowns are taking a back seat for once! Designers Christos, Kenneth Pool, Monique Lhuillier and Temperley Bridal, to name a few, featured cap sleeves in their collections. Cowl Backs Go backless and turn heads on your big day! Recent bridal trends have opened the door for brides to become more daring and sultry. A cowl back style is sexy without showing too much skin. Sassy, yet classy, the cowl back trend is what bridal fashion is currently all about! Designers daring to bare backs include Ines Di Santo, Pronovias, Carolina Herrera and Reem Acra. Pearls Designers like Carolina Herrera and Reem Acra showed pretty pearl detailing on the gowns gracing their bridal runways. A classic wedding
jewel, pearl accents give your wedding day look a feel of timelessness. Gowns with pearls are perfect for brides who want to feel classically beautiful on the most important day of their lives. Glitter & Metallics Classic wedding gown fabrics get a update with hints of gold and silver, metallics, shimmers and sparkles. Look to designers Pronovias, Ines Di Santo, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra for sparkly tulle enhancements this season. Sheer Straps Barely-there fabric adds visual interest to any wedding gown and makes for an incredibly sexy strap detail. So sheer, these straps add another layer without making the dress feel heavy. Simply ethereal! Christos, Pronovias, Amsale, Reem Acra and Marchesa all included pretty sheer straps in their collections. Classic Long Sleeves In a post-Kate Middleton world, it’s unlikely that sleeves -- especially in the Fall -- will be disappearing from bridal runways any time soon. The wonderful thing about these new, long sleeves is how cleverly designed
they are, and how much variation there is! The options are are endless. From opaque, textured fabrics to sheer lace- and tulle-covered arms, slip one of these gowns on for an ultra-elegant, and even regal, feel. Some designers flaunted sleeves that had been beaded, were covered in florals, or were enhanced with other tantalizing embellishments. Claire Pettibone, Christos, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Marchesa, and Badgley Mischka showed off some seriously stunning sleeves.

How to Save Money on a Wedding Gown Easy Ways to Get a Wedding Dress on a Budget By Zawn Villines Many brides have dreamed about their wedding gown since they were children, so it’s easy to understand how a wedding dress can quickly become the most expensive item in
a wedding budget. But you shouldn’t have to drive yourself into debt for a dress you’ll only wear once, no matter how pretty it is. You can save money on your wedding dress if you plan ahead and are willing to invest a little
bit of time for a big financial payoff. Go Secondhand Several online marketplaces sell dresses from brides who either didn’t get married or are re-selling their old wedding dresses. These dresses are frequently steeply discounted, and are often still highly trendy. With a good tailor, you can even purchase a dress in a different size or a slightly different cut than you’d prefer. Similarly, vintage dresses are a hot fashion commodity and can save you mega bucks. Start shopping early at Goodwill, secondhand stores and vintage outlets. If you find a dress you love, a good tailor can usually fix small tears and alter the dress to your body. You might even be able to get a dress for only a few bucks! Vintage dresses are especially good choices for casual weddings because you can simply buy an elegant white dress and add gorgeous jewelry to dress it up for your wedding. Sample Sales Lots of retailers have sample sales a few times a year. Dresses are sold as-is, which means you’ll need to have the dress altered. But these
dresses are steeply discounted and have typically only been used as models on mannequins or in advertisements. They are also frequently representative of the latest seasonal trends. Department Stores Many department stores have small bridal sections. You won’t be paying for the look and feel of an expensive bridal boutique and can end up saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the dress of your dreams. Early Bird Discounts Don’t be shy about asking your bridal salon for a discount. Many bridal boutiques offer discounts if you order your dress early or on the same day you try it on. Tailoring A good tailor is your best friend when you’re trying to save money on a wedding dress. Consider buying a dress off the rack at a bridal shop and then taking it to a tailor for alterations. Alternatively, buy a basic, simple dress and have a tailor add lace, pearls and embroidery to dress it up.

This year, the Pageant of the Masters’ creative team of artists and technicians has reunited to resurrect the acclaimed Halloween Haunted House as part of the Pageant of the Masters 80th Anniversary celebration. Davy reveals, “Over 100 bewitched Pageant of the Masters volunteers will transform into the ghostly passengers of a doomed luxury liner plus other creepy creatures.” She continued, “It’s not your usual haunted house. Guests will be directed through the amphitheater, Pageant workshops and stage, which have been transformed into a series of eerie artistically presented vignettes. It will be a little scary and spooky, but lots of fun for the whole family.” In addition to the haunted house, the Festival of Arts grounds will be filled with ghoulish tricks and treats including: Fortune Tellers Alien Autopsy Pumpkin Printmaking

Fall is a lovely time of year to have a wedding, and this year the fall wedding trends are fantastic. There are many great fall wedding ideas to think about and each will give certain flair to your wedding. This article will discuss the top five fall wedding trends that will help make your wedding spectacular. The first 2013 fall wedding trends concern color and Pantone Fashion Color Report leads the way in letting us know what these colors are. This year the colors for the weddings being planned are running the spectrum, from Rapture Rose which is a vibrant mix of pink, fuchsia and crimson. Other colors being shown for weddings in the fall are Burnt Sienna, Honey Yellow, Purple Heart and a wonderful combination of reds and magentas called American Beauty. You can find out more about Pantone Fashion Colors by visiting their website at Pantone.com. This site will give you great help in finding out about the current fall wedding ideas as well as the fall wedding trends. The fall wedding trends for fashion are as wonderful and varied as the colors being chosen; from strapless dresses to the popular black and white themes there is something to choose from for every fall bride. The super short wedding dress is one of the more popular fall wedding ideas as is the oversized floral embellishments like the giant rose lapels and huge floral arrangements on the tables. Another of the more in style fall wedding trends is the use of Black rosettes which can be placed on either the dress the bride and her bridesmaids will wear or on the
tables. Rosettes no matter where they are placed are one of the nicest fall wedding ideas to come out this year. There are many fall wedding ideas for decorating as well as fashion. Some of the fashion fall wedding trends include floral arrangements. One of the fall wedding trends for 2009 is the Orchid. This lovely and delicate flower has made a comeback in a large way. Another flower that is one of this year’s fall wedding trends in floral arrangements is the use of coordinating fall colors that incorporate the warmth and light of the candles, this mimics the days becoming shorter. The use of fruits and vegetables are also a fall wedding trend that is becoming very popular this year. There are many wonderful fall wedding trends for wedding themes as well. This year one of the more fashionable fall wedding trends for themes is the Wilderness Adventure. Many couples are trying making their weddings more unique and memorable, and some are taking their
weddings to the outdoor theme by recreating a cabin in the woods feel or even decorating the wedding halls as if they were in a tropical jungle. Another of the fantastic new fall wedding trends to come out for 2013 is the Victorian Traditional wedding. This encompasses the fall wedding ideas of horse drawn carriages for the bride and groom as well as for the guests and intricately decorated cakes. Another fall wedding ideas for cakes is the vintage cake which includes a three tired cake made in butter cream and topped with a vintage topper. A few places to find a great vintage cake topper are the second hand stores and even your own parents or grandparents. Whether your fall wedding ideas include the use of fruits in your floral arrangements, or the new fall wedding trend of making the wedding reception hall look like a cabin in the woods you will be sure to have a unique and trendy wedding this year.

Local Dentist Michael Tessier Says Avoiding Tooth Decay is Getting Easier than Ever Before Years ago some of the reasons people gave for not having the cavities in our teeth filled were:” the “shot”, the “the “drill”, the “numbness”, the pain” Dr. Michael Tessier associated with old-time dentistry. But, by using the Whisper Jet, a micro miniature sandblaster using 50 micron-size particles of aluminum oxide, and the Waterlase MD Laser, we get your fillings completed without anesthetic, and with no pain, because of today’s technology, Remembering that the decay process starts with acid-induced demineralization of the enamel of the teeth, here are some ways to avoid the need for dental work: Go to the dentist every six monthsfrequent visits help avoid big problems. Avoid industrially-manufactured foods, like chips or cookies or crackers. Instead, or after, eat raw carrots, celery or apples. Real foods have larger, fibrous particles which actually clean decay-producing sugars off the teeth). Avoid soft drinks, sweetened or otherwise. Instead, drink water, fluoridated or not. Chew sugarless gum. This stimulates acid-neutralizing saliva which counteracts the acidic end-products of bacterial metabolism that cause decay, and mechanically cleans the teeth.
Brush properly with fluoride toothpaste. Floss daily. That little point contact where adjacent teeth touch each other is not accessible to a toothbrush bristle. Remember, you only have to floss the ones you want to keep. By the way, there’s a significant link between the phosphoric acid used as a preservative in dark soft drinks and Alzheimer’s. Another reason to avoid them. We recently found a hard candy that’s sweetened with a Xylitol that coats the teeth with a decay-reducing micro-film. Something like fifteen flavors, no aftertaste. Good Stuff. There is a genetic pre-disposition to susceptibility to decay. Some people get cavities irrespective of how well they take care of their teeth; some people don’t take care of their teeth at all, and still never get cavities. It isn’t necessarily fair (how much in life is?), but the above can help. “The more I work with the laser and the sandblaster, filling teeth without the need for drilling and therefore anesthetic, the more I realize how much dentistry has changed over the last 30 years. When the drill and the carbide burr were our only cutting options, we made it more likely that, in their later adult hood, these teeth would crack, ultimately needing crowns. Today, we’re leaving these teeth stronger. This stuff is great,” he says with a smile. Dr. Michael Tessier is located in Los Flores Plaza at 28562 Oso Parkway. Three unique ways to help kids embrace a blended family About 1,300 new stepfamilies form each day in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And of the 60 million American children younger than 13, half are currently living with one biological parent and that parent’s partner. As a result, couples are trying to find ways to include their stepchildren in the marriage ceremony and commemorate the union of all members of the new blended family. Andy Netzel of Geneva, Ohio, turned to Things Remembered, the nation’s leading retailer of personalized gifts, to find something unique and meaningful to commemorate the special day he married his wife,
Margie, and became stepfather to Emily, 4. During the couple’s ceremony, instead of naming Andy and Margie husband and wife, Pastor Michael Meranda paused after the couple kissed and asked Emily to step forward. The couple hadn’t prepared the little girl for this moment. If she knew about it ahead of time, they knew she’d be anxious throughout the entire ceremony. Andy took the microphone and told his stepdaughter-to-be that it wasn’t just he and Margie who were joined, but rather all three of them. He opened a jewelry box with a Things Remembered bracelet inside. It was engraved with “Mom, Emily, Andy.” “To me, this wasn’t just about Margie and I getting married. This was a lifelong commitment to our new family,” he says. “Margie had a ring. I wanted Emily to have something she could remember this day by, even when she was getting married herself.” It appears to have worked. Emily now refers to the wedding day as “the day we all got married.” Personalized treasures More couples are turning to personalized gifts to commemorate the occasion, says Amy Myers, vice president of Creative Services at Things Remembered. The retailer has seen a steady increase in the number of couples coming in to commemorate the occasion. “We began noticing couples using commemorative gifts about
10 years ago,” Myers says. “Our store managers were the ones who pointed it out to us. We began including engraving suggestions for stepfamilies about five years ago. We have a lot of people come in, not knowing exactly what to say.” Myers says the message seems to drive the gift. Once they find the right words, finding a gift is usually the easy part. Community bricks Many families have also purchased engraved “community bricks” to honor the day they became an official family. Bricks can be purchased through churches, schools, civic organizations or even to support a special landmark that is special to the family. Online retailer, Cut In Stone, specializes in engraved bricks of all shapes, sizes and materials. The symbolism of creating a cornerstone to celebrate the day a blended family came together has a powerful impact, as does the permanence of placing the brick in a prominent part of the community. Many families make a family event out of visiting the location of their brick on their anniversary. When purchasing a brick, families should inquire about purchasing a second one to keep in addition to the one that becomes part of the community landscape. Handwritten letters Some stepparents use the occasion to create a time capsule of sorts with a handwritten letter. In addition to writing a letter to the child about the formation of their family, stepparents
can write about what this new family means to them and their hopes for their future together. This further emphasizes the transformation from a couple to an official family. The letters are often stored in a special box with a few photos and other mementos from the wedding day. Even if the child is quite young on the wedding day, they’ll see the effort that went into making them a big part of that day - and the couple’s life. Just as a first-time wedding is cause for celebration, the coming together of two people and their children to create a blended family is an extraordinarily special event. By taking a moment to recognize and pay tribute to the children in a blended family, couples help children realize they are not losing a parent, but rather gaining another person or group of people to love and support them throughout their future.
New itineraries, ships and offerings draw more cruise travelers to European rivers Europe continues to attract the attention of American travelers, and travel on river cruises is one of the best ways to see many of the continent’s sights and explore much of its history. In response to strong demand, cruise lines are offering many new and expanded services to accommodate this growing travel
interest: Expanding to new rivers. Many river cruise lines are bolstering their cruise portfolios by expanding to rivers where they haven’t before offered itineraries. Such is the case with Tauck, a leader in premium quality guided travel for 88 years, which is adding two new cruises on
the Seine River in 2014. “Cruising the Seine Plus Versailles, Paris & London,” 14 days, begins with an included two-night stay in London at the landmark Savoy, complete with guided sightseeing. Guests travel next to France for a nineday cruise along the Seine, before enjoying an in-depth exploration of Paris and a two-night stay in Versailles at the Trianon Palace Versailles, a Waldorf Astoria property. “Rendezvous on the Seine,” 10 days, includes a two-night stay in Paris. A subsequent sevenday cruise on the Seine is highlighted by a tour of Normandy’s historic D-Day beaches, an excursion to seaside Honfleur, guided tours of abbeys and chateaux, and a farm visit and tasting of local specialties in Etretat. Added offerings on existing rivers. Many of the popular rivers already traveled by cruise lines
will have additional options added. These rivers include the Danube where travelers can visit Regensburg, Germany and travel to Bratislava, Slovakia - and the Rhine, where visitors love exploring nearby Amsterdam, Cologne and everything between to Basel, Switzerland. New ships. Many river cruise lines are expanding their fleets to keep up with demand, and Tauck is no exception. Next year the company will launch a pair of “newbuilds,” the ms Savor and ms Inspire. At 443 feet, the ships will be the longest in the company’s fleet, but the new vessels will accommodate far fewer passengers than same-sized ships in other lines, to ensure a less crowded and more intimate atmosphere. As with its existing ships, Tauck will also staff the new riverboats with a Cruise Director and three professional Directors to provide the highest possible levels of service. Those interested in more information on Tauck’s river cruise offerings can visit the company’s website at www.tauck.com, or call 800-468-2825.

Embrace color trends in style this fall From runway fashion to home decor, blue is definitely in the spotlight right now. Give your home a fresh boost of an on-trend color and make it through the fall season in style. If you’re warming up to the idea of a new look in your home, but aren’t sure how to use color to create a good mood, consider using a fall or pre-holiday redecoration to get ready for next year. Erika Woelfel, director of color at Behr Paints shares the 2014 Color Trends: Seaside harmony - What says “summer” better than a trip to the beach? While winter’s lower temperatures mean you probably won’t want to get sand between your toes or dip them into the ocean, you can still enjoy the warmth and relaxation of the seashore. Simply choose colors that echo the natural hues of sun, surf and sand. Cool blue-greens soothe the senses, while gentle peach and soft white evoke the warmth of the sand and revive the spirit. Create the effect with an inspiring wall color such as Behr’s Ocean Liner T14-1, South Peach T14-2, Miami Weiss T14-3 (a creamy shell-like hue), Edgewater T14-4 or Sky Blue T14-5. Then, extend the theme throughout your decor with accessories and lighting that celebrate the look of a chic modern resort. Urban alternative - If modern decor appeals to you but you think it might underscore the chill of winter, try an urban alternative look. The style celebrates the warmer aspects of modern decor, emphasizing wood, metal and stone tones. This natural evolution of industrial modern decor creates an effect that feels more modest, relaxed and attainable. A palette of rich browns and soft grays creates this look with Behr wall paints Boho T14-6 (a rich olive tone), grays like Offbeat T14-7 and Film Fest T14-8, the reddish brown of Hipsterfication T14-9 and the espresso-like warmth of Coffee Bar T14-10.
Page 8
Grand reign - From the mansions of the “Great Gatsby” to the magnificent homes of Newport, R.I., Americans continue to be fascinated with grand residences. These opulent homes carry us to another place and time, when the Vanderbilts, Carnegies and Rockefellers set the standard for luxury and elegance with their fantastic homes. You can recreate some of this effect with opulent detail, color and ornamentation. This style works for either richly masculine rooms with Cloisonne Blue T14-14, the deep eggplant purple of Imperial Jewel T14-11 or the more neutral Coronation T1412 from Behr, or delicately feminine ones with the neutral Grand Soiree T14-13 and dreamy Minuet Rose T14-15. Whatever style you choose, these colors will create a sense of romance and mystery. Natural avocation - One way to while away the cold hours of winter is with a hobby, and what better hobby for winter than a little nature-watching? Explore the natural disciplines of botany, geology and astronomy with color by choosing tones that call to mind flora, fauna and celestial bodies. Behr’s deeply green Arboretum T14-16, vibrant New Shoot T14-18 and rich red Amaryllis T14-20 wall colors bring the vibrancy of the natural world into your home. And for hues that are the perfect backdrop for winter hobbying, choose the restfully golden Sunday Afternoon T14-19 or the neutral Archivist T14-17. Color’s effect on emotion and energy has been well-documented, and what better time to give your mood a boost than in the fall and winter months? When natural changes in the environment weigh down your mood, you can bolster your mental state - and create a more pleasing, warmer and welcoming environment - by strategic use of color. Visit-Behr.com for inspiration and how-to information and Behr’s blog colorfullybehr.com to learn more about 2014 color trends.

Wells of Life Raises Over $100,000 at Annual Gala
The Ladera Ranch News
Lifetime Achievement Honoree Eithne Keegan with Anne Kinney, Bill Cumming, and Aileen Danley.
Photos by Peggy O’Donnell The 2nd Annual Wells of Life Gala and Auction took place at the Mission Viejo Country Club with 165 in attendance; the Laguna Beach nonprofit raised over $100,000. Guests enjoyed a seated dinner, no host cocktails, entertainment from Irish dancers from the Aniar Academy, as well as a silent and live auction. During the program, two honorees were recognized for their Lifetime Achievements; Ethne Keegan and Toni Danchik. Keegan, a registered nurse at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and philanthropist, is an International Speaker and Educator and has helped many around the world. Keegan has been instrumental with Wells of Life by organizing the mission trips to Uganda allowing volunteers and whoever wishes to attend, to see firsthand the difference their contribution makes to the Ugandan communities. Danchik is an artist and Curator for Artisan Gallery at Mission Viejo Country Club and Jean and Darren Coyle with Eugene and Mary Gallagar. shows her work at the Mission Fine Art Gallery in San Juan Capistrano. Danchik donated an original painting, “New Life at the Water Well” which raised $4,000 during the live auction. This signature piece inspired many to give from their hearts as it shows the expression of children getting the much needed water they so deserve. Nick Jordan, President of Wells of Life, was very excited about the evening, “We want to thank everyone who took part in making our fundraising efforts a success proving we can make a difference when it comes to providing water to those who need it most. What we saw last night was a giant leap of humanity and we have reached an important milestone by being able to fund our 100th well by years end”. The highlight of the evening was the introduction of the $6.00 solution; drilling a well for fresh water in Uganda costs $6,000 which serves 1,000 people. All guests were able to save one life and change the world. Leighton Mauze a student from San Antonio Texas Alamo Heights High School, Chrissy Cheung from Mission Viejo High School and Katie Altman Lifetime Achievement Honoree Michelle Yegsigian and Nick from La Cañada Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy were also introduced. and artist Toni Danchik with Peter Each of them spoke about their passion for Wells of Life as they each have Jordan. Callahan who purchased “New Life at the Water Well”. started clubs at their high schools on behalf of the charity raising funds for building a well. The room was silent when letters from Africa were read; 9 year old children Manus Jordan and Elana Sewell, read letters from children in Uganda who thanked Wells of Life for the building of their well and what it meant to them and their village. The last letter, read by Board Member Michelle Yegsigian, was from a principal of a school who pleaded for a well because of the poverty and sickness they are enduring from having no water. Afterwards, a video was shown on how Wells of Life gives the people of Uganda hope and creates a new opportunity for prosperity and peace – creating sustainable water sources that will impact generations to come. Wells of Life is a Laguna Beach, California based nonprofit organization that was founded in 2008 with the sole purpose of providing Ugandan communities with access to clean and safe drinking water. Wells of Life is committed to drilling wells and empowering Ugandan communities with the Katie Altman from La Cañada Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, gift of water. Secrets for a streamlined routine: How to look flawless in seconds Award winning actress shares her must-have multi-tasking beauty solution
Every year, women spend billions of dollars on cosmetics and beauty products because they think that a complex routine is the key to unlocking their beautiful best. Women are busier than ever and need simple solutions to streamline their everyday. Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominated star of the TV series “Nashville,” Connie Britton was one of these women whose routine involved multiple steps. Back on set and busier than ever, Britton offers up her favorite tips for simplifying her routine. * Connie’s beauty secret: “I have tried many products over the years and have a cabinet full of the latest moisturizers, sunscreens and foundations to prove it,” says Britton. “I was so excited to finally discover POND’S Luminous Finish BB+ that has short and long term benefits - it gives me flawless coverage instantly and evens out my skin tone while brightening and moisturizing my skin. It really does it all and keeps its promise.” Britton has teamed up with POND’S to help women get flawless skin. The multi-tasking beauty benefit cream is formulated with Tone Perfecting Complex and visibly fades dark spots. * Snacks to swear by: Busy routines allow for little time to sit down and enjoy a meal. “I make sure to carry high protein, healthy snacks like almonds that are great for my skin and help keep it radiant,” explains Britton. As a bonus, being prepared with healthy snacks make it is easier to resist the urge to give into the temptation of sugary treats. * Get glowing: Britton’s other secret for beautiful
skin? “I love doing exercise that feels like it strengthens and nourishes inside and out, so lately I have been doing a lot of yoga, which incorporates body, mind, and spirit,” she says. “I always feel great after!” * Make-up for lost time: “As a mom, it’s tough to fit in a full eight hours of beauty sleep,” says Britton. “But I’m always really amazed at what a difference
a couple of coats of volumizing mascara make in the morning. It actually helps me look bright-eyed and well-rested.” After curling lashes apply two coats of mascara for eyes that looking instantly brighter and awake. For more tips from Britton, visit the POND’S Facebook page at facebook.com/Ponds.
For richer or poorer: let your newlywed bliss turn into financial success For better or worse, richer or poorer - that’s the promise most couples make when they face one-another at the altar. When it comes to finances and young love, it can be easy to fall into some common pitfalls that can haunt couples long after the wedding day. “Communication is a key part of a strong marriage, and it’s also the basis for a strong financial partnership,” says Barrett Burns, president and CEO of VantageScore Solutions. “Being proactive before and planning ahead of the wedding while sticking to a financial plan will help guard against common financial mistakes that can occur early in a couple’s life together.” To start your new life together with a strong financial foundation, check off a few important money to-dos before you say “I do!” 1. Have the debt talk All couples must have the debt talk. It may not be romantic, but it is necessary in order to plan a bright future together. Be open and honest about debt, savings and spending habits, even if they are less than perfect. Financial turmoil is one of the top reasons cited for divorce, so understanding each other’s finances today and what goals you have for the future will help reduce stress on your partnership. With the average college student graduating with $26,600 in student loan debt, according to The Project on Student Debt, young couples need to create a plan for Page 14
managing debt and saving for the future. 2. Control wedding spending The “big day” is a defining moment in life, but it’s important for couples to remember it’s just one day of many that they will spend together. Weddings and related events cost a whopping $28,427 on average, according to theknot.com, and that doesn’t even include the honeymoon. “When it comes to young couples planning a dream wedding, the plastic tends to be relied upon,” says Burns. “It’s important to be realistic about how much you can spend. Becoming over extended on credit cards is a common mistake, and this type of high-interest debt is not the wisest way to begin your lives together.” The best course of action when it comes to wedding planning is to create a budget and stick to it. It’s not necessarily bad to use credit, especially if you can take advantage of a credit card rewards program, but Burns advises only charging or borrowing what you know you can pay back in a reasonable amount of time as keeping high balances and missing payments can have significantly negative impacts on your credit score, which in turn leads to stress. 3. Work together to build a positive credit profile Married couples do not have joint credit files or credit scores. Each individual has their credit files with the credit reporting companies and
The Ladera Ranch News
their own credit scores, but in some cases like when joint accounts and co-signed loans are created, the actions of one can impact the other. “It’s common for younger people who are just beginning their financial independence to not have much, if any, credit history. It’s important to be proactive and take steps to build a positive credit profile and score so you can demonstrate to lenders that you are a good manager of credit,” says Burns. Get a copy of your credit report and resolve any issue you may have with the information presented in it. If you have a limited credit history, carefully consider the benefits of joint accounts, but keep in mind that the positive financial actions like paying bills on-time and keeping balances low, as well as actions that can have negative impacts like missing payments will influence the couples’ individual credit scores. “The importance of paying bills on time cannot be understated,” says Burns. “A single missed payment can drop each person’s credit score 80 to 100 points. This can affect a couple’s ability to get the best interest rates and terms for a loan.” Another important step in building credit after a marriage is to make sure that all financial lenders are aware of name changes. “If you choose to change your name after you are married, make sure all your accounts have your current information, otherwise positive actions may not
get reported correctly or in a timely manner,” Burns says. 4. Shop around for rates “Whether you’re taking out a personal loan or selecting a credit card, you absolutely must shop around for rates,” advises Burns. “Don’t just take the easiest or first option. You want to get the best deal available with low interest rates and reasonable terms.” When shopping for rates, Burns notes to do so within a two week period of time. Credit inquiries from auto and mortgage lenders and credit cards issued from banks and credit unions are only counted once if done in a two week period causing just a slight decrease to credit scores. Finally, couples soon to be married or those that recently were married can also test their knowledge about credit scores at www.CreditScoreQuiz.org, a website created by VantageScore Solutions and its partner, Consumer Federation of America, one of the largest consumer advocates in the country.

Preparing for happily ever-after? Simple ways to Keep your wedding plans happy and affordable Your wedding is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life, but what happens when the caterer closes, the head count is wrong and the band is a no show? More than one couple has experienced these types of wedding disasters. Make sure your wedding day is only filled with blissful memories by taking a few steps to do what you can to protect yourself from the financial and emotional impact of wedding-day dilemmas and put your mind at ease. 1. Solidify a budget The average wedding costs a whopping $28,427, according to theknot.com, which means couples are spending big bucks to say “I do.” Whether you’re able to spend $5,000 or more than $50,000, it’s important to create a realistic budget and stick with it throughout the wedding-planning process. A good way to stay within budget is to set priorities. Do you care more about the food and not so much about the flowers? Allot more funds for catering and keep the bouquet modest. Create a spreadsheet and involve your partner so you both are on the same page. No one wants to be mid-wedding planning and realize they can’t afford what they promised guests, or worse, have a huge bill at the end that risk delays to other goals, such as buying a home. 2. Purchase wedding insurance Imagine it’s two weeks before
Any fall bride will need some important beauty tips to make her big day extra special. The fall is a season that is unparalleled by any other, and this is why a fall themed wedding is always so beautiful. This article will discuss several fall bride beauty tips to ensure the bride is more beautiful than the wedding season. Before the Wedding Pamper yourself and treat your body well. This means facials, bubble baths, and manicures. Also make sure to eat healthy foods that will help you avoid bloating and gas during your big day. Drinking water regularly is another important tip for bride beauty during fall. Moisturize on a regular basis. Also remember to give your makeup and hairstyle a test run a week or so in advance. Also have sample size versions of all the products you will be using ready in your purse for quick touch ups during the wedding. Hair If you are getting a trim before your wedding, make sure to do it at least 1 week in advance to allow your hair to settle. Use deep conditioning methods for your hair starting a week or 2 before your big day. This will protect hair and prevent frizz during your fall wedding. Another beauty tip Page 18
the wedding and you just found out the reception hall suddenly closed, the tailor lost your dress and the photographer was in a car accident and therefore can’t attend the ceremony. There’s always an element of the unknown, and when so much money and emotion are involved in an event like a wedding, it’s crucial to get wedding insurance. “Wedding cancellation insurance can help cover losses for deposits sent to businesses who have unexpectedly closed, replacement of damaged wedding dresses and attire, and restaging of photos if a photographer is a no show,” says Steve Lauro, vice president of Aon’s WedSafe wedding insurance program. “It may even cover up to the full cost of your wedding if your event is postponed due to unforeseen circumstances such as extreme weather or a venue shutting its doors.” “Event Liability insurance, required by many venues, is another type of coverage you may be required to obtain in order to adequately protect your wedding,” adds Lauro. 3. Investigate venues and vendors National average wedding costs: $2,379 for a photographer, $1,997 for a florist, $12,905 for a reception venue, $63 per guest for catering. When investing so much money into a wedding, you want to make sure the businesses you select are the
best of the best. Spend time researching different venues and vendors before you sign on the dotted line. When researching, ask and make sure each business carries liability insurance. Get references and spend time emailing and making calls - a real person will give you the best insight into what type of experience to expect. Check out every business on BBB.org and read online reviews. 4. Stay organized and confirm details one month out Many couples plan a wedding a year or more out, so it’s important a month prior to confirm all the details to ensure a smooth and beautiful wedding day. Call vendors and event sites to verify times and services. You’ll receive lots of paperwork during the weddingplanning process. Keep copies of all contracts in a specified folder. Record how much was put down on deposits and when additional amounts are due so you don’t miss a payment. Keep a spreadsheet of all important numbers in one document for easy reference. Give this document to several trusted people so if you need assistance

for brides is to be careful to avoid the wind. Too much wind can wreck a lovely hairstyle. Always bring any accessories you will be wearing with you when you do your trial run hairstyle. This will provide brides with the full beauty look so that they can tweak it if they need to. Adding highlights around the bride’s face is also a nice way to add warmth to fall bride beauty. Makeup Makeup is an important part of your fall bride beauty. Choosing makeup colors can be hard for brides, but fall calls for deep hues, natural tones, and jewel colors. Eye shadow can be reminiscent of jeweled tones such as emerald or amethyst. It can also be a natural tone such as cream, ivory, or vanilla. A fall bride beauty tip for lips is the use of berry colors. Pink and purple undertones in lipstick are perfect for fall brides, and lip gloss in similar shades will work well for those who do not prefer dark lip color. Fall bride makeup should also withstand the weather. Fall can be cold and rainy, but it should not affect your

bridal makeup. First, it is important to moisturize your skin during the fall. Using light colored powder foundation will give you a natural look. Bronzer can be applied to the cheeks like blush for a warm glow in fall. Lip pencils should be used to help make lip color last throughout the day. Water proof mascara is a bride
calling, particularly on the day of the wedding, your mother-in-law or best man can step in and help. Make sure your special day ends in wedded bliss rather than a wedding disaster. These simple tips can help ensure a beautiful experience for you and your guests, and protect you should you encounter an unexpected surprise.
beauty must have, and it should be used in a natural color to match your eyelashes. Fall is a tricky season for brides, and these beauty tips are an excellent way to make sure the fall bride is looking her best. If you are planning on being a fall bride keep these tips in mind.
