Newport Beach City Council Reverses Course with Plans to Permanently Preserve 60 Wood-Burning Fire Rings and Preserve a Part of California’s Culture! After years of attempts by a handful of city leaders to remove the fire rings from the city’s public beaches in order to keep “outsiders” away, the newly elected Newport Beach City Council voted to move forward with a plan to seek the California Coastal Commission’s approval for a permanent plan to preserve all its wood-burning fire rings to reflect the will of its residents and to help restore the city’s image as a warm, welcoming place to all people. On a 5 – 2 vote, the city adopted a plan to request the California Coastal Commission to review a new Coastal Develop Permit (CDP) to space the 60 fire rings out, and in two new additional locations - near the Newport Pier and Newport Dunes - so that more residents and local businesses can enjoy the benefits of the fire rings while remaining compliant with the 100-foot spacing requirement of the South Coast Air Quality District’s Rule 444. The California Coastal Commission will now take the CDP under review and possibly vote on the matter as early as March 2015. “It is a great feeling to know that we are one step closer to saving the fire rings– an important part of California’s heritage – for future generations to enjoy!” exclaimed Doug Swardstrom, one of the Founders of the Friends of Fire Rings, the volunteer advocacy group that has been leading to preserve

the fire rings and public beaches over the years. “Thanks to the leadership of Councilman Scott Peotter, and the support of Councilmembers Kevin Muldoon, Duffy Duffield, Tony Petros, and Mayor Ed Selich, the city will no longer be wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars a year trying to remove or alter the fire rings against the will of its own residents, and at the behest a handful of politicallyconnected people,” explained Swardstrom. “As explained on our website, this unfortunate episode began with this small group of politically connected residents getting Chairman Bill Burke of the AQMD to create an air-quality rule, backed by pseudo-science, that coincidentally only affected Newport Beach’s 60 PUBLIC fire rings, while exempting hundreds of thousands of other fire rings on private beaches, yards of residents, and woodburning chimneys on homes, said Swardstrom. “Burke effectively gerrymandered the air for a small group of people.” “There is something magical about crackling wood, and flames dancing against the night sky as family and friends gather around a campfire away from the busyness of life, to sing, to share, to listen, to have fun – to develop friendships and make memories for a lifetime,” continued Swardstrom. “It is a new day in Newport Beach and we are grateful to 5 great leaders!”

Friends of the Fire Rings (a 501c4 non-profit) is a broad-based grass-roots organization representing a diverse membership from all walks of life who join in support of the fire rings and preserving California’s beautiful public beaches. It has been the leading advocacy group in lobbying for A.B. 1102 (the 2014 “Save the fire rings bill” in the state legislature) as well as the only group providing local grass-roots organizing, signature gathering, and educating through its website: www. SaveTheFireRings.org. The history of the fire ring challenges, as well as video testimony, results a public opinion poll, new stories, and more can also be found on our website. Friends of the Fire Rings will continue to advocate for the fire rings through the upcoming California Coastal Commission hearings.

The Happy Diet Most people recognize the link between what they eat and their physical health. But many don't know that there is a link between what they eat and their mood. Literally, says Elizabeth Somer, M.A.,R.D., what you eat or don't eat for breakfast can have an effect on your happiness quotient by afternoon. The effects also are cumulative: eat the right foods for months, years, decades and you will be that much happier and mentally sharp in the years to come. In short, follow these tips that come from, "Eat Your Way to Happiness," the latest book by Somer, and she promises you will say, "I never knew I could feel this good!" Feel Good Tip #1: Eat breakfast People who eat breakfast have more energy, a more sustained good mood, they perform better at school and at work, and they sleep better at night. They also are less prone to food cravings, have an easier time losing weight and maintaining the weight loss. But, Somer is not talking doughnuts and coffee. You must follow the 1,2,3 rule. The breakfast must have: 1) a whole grain to provide needed high-quality carbs for the brain during the morning hours 2) a little protein to keep you satiated and maintain even blood sugar levels throughout the morning 3) one, preferably two, colorful fruits and vegetables. Somer's favorite is as a bowl of whole-grain cereal topped with berries and low-fat milk, and served with sliced watermelon. Or, a morning smoothie made with watermelon, lemon yogurt,

and dash of ground ginger, served with whole-grain raisin bread. Feel Good Tip #2: Keep lunch light and low-fat Not only will a heavy lunch leave you groggy, but eat too much fat mid-day and it turns on a brain chemical, called galanin. According to research from Rockefeller University, the more fat we eat, the more galanin we produce. People who eat a fatty lunch are likely to eat more calories later in the day compared to someone who eats a low-fat lunch. You definitely need some fat, like the healthy fats in nuts and olive oil and the omega-3 fats, but don't go overboard. A light, low-fat meal helps you stay alert through the afternoon hours, boosts energy, and fills you up without filling you out. An example would be a turkey breast sandwich on whole wheat piled high with spinach leaves and served with a glass of low-fat milk and a fruit salad or watermelon, orange slices and pineapple. Feel Good Tip #3: Include super mood foods Somer says that it is a style of eating, not just a few foods, that will stack the deck in favor of feeling great. The 10 secrets of happy people discussed in her book include habits, such as focusing on "real foods" not processed ones, cutting back on the quick fixes, and keeping meals light. If you are following those guidelines, then adding super mood foods gives you an even greater nutritional bang for your buck. Super mood foods are ones loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidant-rich phytonutrients,

while being moderate in calories. A perfect example is watermelon, which is higher in lycopene than are tomatoes, and is an excellent source of vitamins A, B6, and C. Better yet, watermelon is 92 percent water, which means it is a natural hydrator, and it contains two amino acids, citrulline and arginine that maintain blood vessels in the body.

Rise and shine - wake up to new home decor ideas Few things feel better than waking in the morning refreshed and ready to start the day. But if the first thing you see is a bedroom that needs some improvement, your day might not go as planned. If you’re suffering from the bedroom blues, why not reinvent the space? Especially since you don’t have to buy new to get a whole new look. Bring a touch of nature to the room by transforming a boring headboard into a grand focal point. Simply spray paint it with Krylon’s Natural Stone Textured Finish, which goes on easy and gives you the natural beauty of stone. Available in eight designer colors, this paint features a smaller particle size for an elegant and professional-looking appearance. To complete the look, add a new comforter and accent pillows to your bed to complement your new creation. Don’t stop there. Give outdated dressers or vanities a facelift with a fresh coat of paint. You can match the furniture to your new headboard, or paint each with a complementary color for extra visual intrigue. For the finishing touch, add new decorative knobs - or simply paint your current ones - to create additional dramatic impact. Page 4

Next, look to the accessories around the room that might need a bit of improvement or pizzazz. Lamps, frames and vases can be easily updated from bland to beautiful with a quick spray of paint to coordinate with the rest of your room’s new color scheme.

The Newport News

Finally, add a bit of cheer by filling your newly painted vase full of fresh cut flowers on the night stand. For an ultra-relaxing vibe, add lavender to the mix, as the scent soothes and comforts while you drift off into dreamland. From the moment you wake in the

morning to the moment you close your eyes at night, your bedroom should be your haven. By rising to the occasion and incorporating some small spray paint updates, you can kick back and enjoy - morning, noon and night.

Raising the bar on bath safety The bathroom is your daily sanctuary to retreat to and enjoy a few moments alone. For that reason, it should be serene, stylish and of course, safe. -Think that words “safety” and “style” can never go together? Think again. Fortunately, it’s easy to incorporate essential bath safety elements that will leave your room feeling more like a resort instead of rehab. A twist on towel bars When entering or exiting the bath, many homeowners reach for a towel located on a towel bar just outside the bathtub or shower. While this is a convenient location, unfortunately bathers instinctively grab onto the towel bar to ease in and out of the shower or tub. This can be a serious fall risk, since towel bars are not designed to support a person’s weight. Fortunately, Moen has combined the functionality and beauty of a decorative towel bar with the safety benefits of a grab bar with the Moen Home Care Grab Bar with Towel Bar. Available in the most popular finishes to seamlessly integrate with the style of your bath, this unique product is easy to install to ensure a safe - and stylish - addition to the bath. Safety with shelves From shampoo to shaving cream, razors to rubber duckies, the bathtub or shower is an area where we store a multitude of items. With this in mind, homeowners are always looking for ways to conquer the clutter. Shelves are an excellent answer - especially when you can combine them with safety and peace of mind. Look for shelves that combine the functionality and style of a shelf with the safety of

a grab bar. Some are featured in both corner and straight designs and will help solve your storage woes, while providing extra stability in the shower or bath. “Grab bars are an important safety element for all ages - in fact, we could all use a little extra assistance in the shower,” says Adam Ference, Moen Home Care brand manager. “By incorporating grab bars into common bathroom accessories, we hope to encourage homeowners to make every bath a safe - and stylish - bath.” Serenity with showerheads When you think of resorts, you may recall the spectacular spa showers. You can dramatically enhance your daily shower experience by simply updating your current showerhead. There are many types, but a combination showerhead, such as the Moen Caldwell Brushed Nickel Slide Bar showerhead, can offer a relaxing retreat while also adding safety features. Combination showerheads feature both a standard showerhead

and a handheld showerhead attached to a slide bar, providing users multiple spray options. And, with the added benefit of a handheld shower, users who choose to bathe in a seated position can also easily and safely enjoy the sensational experience. Luxurious illumination For the final step to your safetyupgraded bathroom, increase the amount of lighting. Add higherwattage bulbs in your current lights, nightlights or additional lamps to the room for improved illumination. Another option is adding skylights. Not only will it help reduce bumps and falls, but a well-lit bathroom will also make the space feel more open and spa-like. Increasing your safety does not mean decreasing the style in your bath. In fact, with these easy, inexpensive and attractive updates, you can quickly raise your level of bath safety, while creating a more enjoyable and stylish bathroom retreat.

Light eating for families: Experts suggest seafood Health experts recommend young families, especially expecting moms, should aim to eat a variety of nutrientrich foods -- those that are bursting with vitamins and minerals in every bite. A serving of seafood, for instance, packs nutrients like protein and omega-3s into only about 100 calories. For this reason, eating fish and shellfish two to three times a week is linked to healthy hearts among adults and a brain boost in babies. Warm weather is the perfect time to learn light, delicious ways to make fish your family’s new favorite. Healthy eating made simple with seafood Instead of deli meat sandwiches, try a tuna, crab or salmon salad with one of these creative mix-in combinations to help get to your weekly recommended servings of seafood: * Plain yogurt, slivered almonds, diced apples and dried cranberries. * Olive oil, capers, diced red onion and basil. * Cottage cheese, diced celery and a splash of lemon juice. Place on a whole wheat roll or eat as a dip with crackers for a simple and nutritious picnic lunch. As an alternative to traditional sum-

mer barbecue items like hot dogs and brats, which are higher in calories and fat, fire up the barbecue for one of these fish dishes: * Kebabs with shrimp, scallops, peppers and pineapple. * Fillets of salmon or cod grilled on a wood plank. * Grilled pizza with mozzarella, tomatoes and canned tuna (full recipe below). Seafood matters most for momsto-be Fish and seafood is packed with nutrients that are especially important for the health of pregnant women and growing babies, yet 80 percent of women don’t eat the recommended amount. During your pregnancy, official guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say: * Eat seafood two to three times each week. * Eat a variety of fish. * As much as half (6 ounces) of fish each week can be albacore tuna. * The only fish to avoid completely are shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish. “Seafood contains a package of powerhouse nutrients needed for a healthy pregnancy - omega-3s, calcium, vitamin D and iron,” says

Dr. Ashley Roman, an obstetrician and mother of two. “Most expecting moms don’t get enough nutrient-rich fish in their diet and are missing out on a brain development boost for their babies.” A new guide created with registered dietitians and doctors is now available to help expecting and new moms eat plenty of fish. “A Seafood Lover’s Guide to Eating During Pregnancy,” explains why eating seafood is important, how much to eat, and how to eat it with delicious and nutritious recipes and snack ideas. Download a free copy of “A Seafood Lover’s Guide to Eating During Pregnancy” at www.healthytuna. com. Grilled Tuna Italiano Pizza During the hot summer months, skip the oven and go for the grill. This easy and delicious pizza is a great way to enjoy a variety of nutritious foods with your whole family without heating up the whole house. Serves two. Ingredients 1 (6-ounce) pre-baked individual whole-wheat pizza crust 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella

cheese 1/3 cup diced roma tomatoes 1 teaspoon minced shallots 1/2 teaspoon red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons fresh-chopped basil 1/4 teaspoon fresh-crushed garlic 1 (5-ounce) can tonno tuna in olive oil Directions 1. Preheat grill to 350 F. 2. Place pizza crust on pizza pan or directly on grill rack. 3. Sprinkle cheese over crust; grill with lid closed until cheese is melted (about seven minutes). 4. Meanwhile, in bowl, combine tomatoes, shallots, red wine vinegar and garlic; set aside. 5. Flake tonno tuna evenly over pizza. 6. Spoon tomato mixture over tuna; sprinkle basil over pizza. 7. Grill five minutes longer. Serve immediately.

Adopting a Shelter Pet If you’re thinking about getting a new pet, consider going to an animal shelter to find that new family member. There are about 3,500 shelters in the United States that serve an estimated 5 to 7 million homeless animals, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Why adopt from a shelter? You will make a pet happy. By adopting from a private humane society or animal shelter, breed rescue group, or the local animal control agency, you’ll help a homeless pet find a new home. You will receive a healthy pet. Most shelters follow strict medical protocols including examinations when pets come in and vaccinations before they leave. In addition to medical care, shelters also screen animals for specific temperaments and behaviors to match each pet with the perfect family. Animal shelters have happy, healthy pets just waiting for someone to take them home. You will support your community and save money at the same time. Adopting from an animal shelter is usually less expensive, as your local shelter will just ask for a moderate adoption fee that will mainly cover basic routine medical care costs. Shelter pets are also usually already spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Finally, you help promote responsible pet ownership through your community. Questions to ask When you visit an animal shelter, ask the staff some key questions. Ask about: The pet’s history – Find out as much as you can about the pet’s background. Was it a stray or given

up by its owner? Did it come from a loving home? Did it live with other pets or with children? Medical and behavioral assessments – Find out what evaluations have been done and what lifestyle would suit it best. Ask about the pet’s interaction with the staff, and what their impressions are. The adoption timeline and process – Some shelters will let you take an animal home right away, while others take a slower approach. Find out what to expect up front. Spaying/neutering – Most shelters have policies

to make sure that animals leave spayed or neutered. Some take care of this before the animals are available for adoption. Others schedule the procedure when the animal goes home and either finalize the adoption once it is performed, or refund the spay/neuter deposit once proof is provided. Every dog and cat deserves a home. When you adopt from a shelter, you provide a pet with another chance at finding love and a forever home.

Photos by Ann Chatillon More than 250 Orange County ladies (and a few men too) gathered recently for tea at The Balboa Bay Resort to raise money for The Academy – a public charter high school in Santa Ana funded by Orangewood Children’s Foundation and opened in August, 2013. After lunch was served, Head of School Anthony Saba shared with the audience the unique benefits of the school including a laptop for every student, a focus on project-based and work-based learning, and the STEAM curriculum. First year results include a 97% attendance rate and 50% of students on the honor roll. He explained the need to fundraise for a public school, saying “California ranks 49th in the U.S. in per-student funding. As a public charter high school, The Academy receives the same funding as other public schools in California. But through the fundraising efforts of Orangewood, we are able to make The Academy a great school with amazing teachers and experiences for our students.” Academy student Nadia (Class of 2017) shared about her difficult elementary school experiences. She was bullied by kids who thought she was weird, and didn’t feel like her teachers cared about her education. All Academy Head of School Anthony Erika Clemons and Andrea Casaw this deeply affected her self-esteem to the point where she stopped dreaming with the Snow Queen aka-Lacey James Saba with daughter Haley about her future. At The Academy, Nadia is thriving. She has a group of friends who care about her deeply, and she describes everyone at the school as a family. The support from Academy teachers, staff, and Head of School, Anthony Saba, has reinvigorated Nadia’s passion for life. “Mr. Saba took me aside one day and told me that I could be anything I wanted to be. Nobody had ever said that to me before. It totally changed the way I think about my future.” The event netted $85,000 for the operations of the high school and Orangewood plans to make it an annual holiday event. Orangewood Children’s Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization. Founded in 1981, it is one of the leading providers of services to children in foster care. Recognizing that nearly 50% of foster youth do not graduate from high school, in August 2013 the Foundation opened The Academy, a free charter high school in Santa Ana for community, underserved and foster teens. Now in its second year of operation, The Academy has 240 students between its freshman and sophomore class. For more information, visit www. orangewoodfoundation.org and www.theacademyoc.org. How to Keep Your Jewelry Sparkly By Sarah E. Johnson Jewelry, whether real gold and silver or faux, should be carefully maintained in order to get the most out of it. Rings adorn most girls’ fingers and ears on a daily basis, and if we’re not cleaning them daily, then we are failing to protect our (sometimes) valuable investment. 1. Never apply lotion, wash your hands, or wash your hair with rings on. The detergents and chemicals in these products will collect on your metals causing them to look dim, and sometimes they even cause a permanent change in color reports Olivia Palermo on her blog. 2. When cleaning jewelry, never use products containing alcohols, ammonia, and vinegar cautions MichellesVintageJewelry.com. These products will change the color of your metal just like the detergents mentioned above will. 3. HowToCleanStuff.net says that a great way to keep your jewelry always looking its best, is to wipe it down with a non-lint-producing cloth after taking it off. If you do a quick dry polish every time you wash your hands,

your pieces will always be shiny and in optimal viewing condition. 4. Treat all jewelry with care, and make sure to check all fastenings before cleaning them to prevent losing stones and gems suggests BlitzInc.com. 5. Some useful tools for cleaning delicate pieces include: -Baby toothbrushes (the bristles are soft and you don’t have to worry about them marking your metals or stones. -Wooden toothpicks (for crevices) -Cotton swabs (for delicate application of cleaner and water. -Towels (never let water dry on your jewelry) 6. If you’re uncertain or insecure about cleaning your favorite pieces, lushaejewelry.com suggests, taking them to a professional. Your jewelry can be cleaned while you shop at the mall in most locales. Wearing clean, shiny jewelry isn’t just hygienic; it’s good fashion also good fashion sense. There’s really no excuse for wearing dingy pieces because jewelry is so easy to clean.

Choosing a Weight Loss Plan that’s Right for You Losing weight and getting into shape is a goal many Americans aspire to achieve. Choosing a weight loss plan that fits your lifestyle is a crucial first step in developing the diet that works for you. The road to a sound weight loss plan should begin with the following steps: Talk with your doctor First and foremost, speak with your doctor. Your healthcare provider can help you set attainable weight loss goals as well as discuss any medical conditions you have or medications you may take that could affect your ability to modify your diet. Talking with your doctor can help you find a plan that’s tailored to your particular needs. Choose the right plan for you One size does not fit all when it comes to diets. In fact, several studies featured in the International Journal of Obesity Supplements (IJOS) reported that adults with greater insulin resistance are more successful with weight loss on a low-carbohydrate diet compared with a low-fat diet. In such cases, a lowcarbohydrate diet such as the Atkins Diet has been proven to have positive

results on insulin resistance. Dieters start with a focus on carbohydrates from vegetables and slowly add back fruit, nuts and whole grains as one’s carb balance is established and weight loss goals are met. Opt for a diet backed by science over the latest fad. Commit to your Plan Losing weight and keeping it off requires a long-term commitment. Once you have developed your weight loss plan it is important that you stick with it. You need to make healthy changes to both your diet and lifestyle. Your diet should include foods you will enjoy eating for a long time, not just for a few weeks or months. Adopt a plan that gives you the ability to enjoy a variety of food options. For example, if you are a veggie lover, the Atkins Diet could be a good plan for you to follow. From day one, the lowcarb diet allows you to consume more vegetables than are recommended by USDA Guidelines. In fact, you can even follow Atkins as a vegetarian or vegan. Finding a plan that works for your lifestyle and incorporates more of the foods you already love will help reinforce your new healthier eating

habits. Drink more water The Beverage Institute reports that the average adult in the US gets a significant portion of their calories from beverages, mostly in the form of carbohydrates. Avoid drinking sugary sodas, juices and alcohol, and replace these with more water. Rally support

The first few weeks of the diet can be the most difficult. To be successful, look to family and friends who have made similar lifestyle changes for support and advice. Doing a little homework and smart planning can help you choose a weight loss plan that will help you be successful both now and for the rest of your life.

Breakfast is more than the first meal of the day for kids Most kids don’t want us to remind them that breakfast is the most important meal of the day as they’re running out the door to get to school on time. But they might be interested in hearing that eating a balanced breakfast will make them feel better, inside and out, contributing to better grades, better performance on the field and better nutrition choices throughout their days. A significant percentage of elementary and an even greater percentage of middle and high school students skip breakfast daily or a few times a week. On a given day, up to 30 percent of teens in the U.S. skip breakfast. As they get older, homework, jobs, sports teams, the arts and the Internet result in all-tooshort nights for students, and the need to catch a few more moments of sleep in the morning. Breakfast allows students to break the fast of nighttime, reigniting brains and concentration abilities. “It’s everything you’ve heard about in terms of it being a critical meal of the day,” says Sue Moores, a registered dietitian and consultant to schools in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. “Miss or skip breakfast and you start the day playing catch up.”

According to Moores, many kids already lack important bodystrengthening, body “building” nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, potassium, protein and fiber. Without breakfast, which is a meal that can easily offer all of these, there’s extra pressure to fill the nutritional gaps with snacks and other meals. Including carbohydrates in the morning meal (whole-grain carbs, says Moores) is key, as carbs are the preferred source of energy for the brain. Add in a bit of protein to help distribute the energy carbohydrates offer, and you have the start of a great meal. Skipping breakfast may not only put students behind the eight-ball for morning nutrition, adds Moores, it may also set them back by way of poor food choices for the rest of the day. Some studies show breakfastskippers actually crave salty, higher fat, sweet foods throughout the day compared to people who eat a morning meal. What they eat in place of breakfast is far from nutritious fare. Beginning this school year, school breakfasts are required to meet the United States Department of Agriculture’s new food-based meal pattern, which outlines increased amounts of fruits/vegetables, grains

and milk food components. A m y H a r k e y, a r e g i s t e r e d dietitian and director of Child Nutrition Operations with CharlotteMecklenburg Schools, North Carolina, says that this fall the Universal School Breakfast Program is being implemented in her district, meaning that more than 140,000 students will receive a balanced morning meal at no charge. Previously, these breakfasts were offered to all students based on their eligibility. “We want to remove any misperceptions that breakfast is only for those children who are economically disadvantaged,” says Harkey. “It’s important for all students to ‘break the fast’ and get the nutrition they need to begin their busy academic days.” Harkey explains that they provide a variety of “Quick Bites for Breakfast,” offering both hot and cold options that meet the complete school breakfast requirements. “We learned in our pilot test of the program this spring that the students are reacting positively to our breakfast menus. They enjoy having the menu board outside the cafeteria so that in the afternoons they can see what will be offered the next morning,”

says Harkey. Companies have stepped up to the plate, delivering whole grain and protein-rich options that, when paired with a calcium-rich, low-fat milk, provide a solid start to the day. Schwan’s Food Service offers the new Beacon Street Cafe (TM) 51 percent whole grain Sausage, Egg and Cheese Sliders this fall, with 8 grams of protein, 11 grams of whole grains, 0 grams of trans fat and only 160 calories per serving (two pieces). “Whether students catch a brainboosting breakfast at home or at school, it’s important to find a way to fit nutrient-rich foods in for a good day of learning,” says Moores. “It may seem inconsequential to skip a morning meal, but results in the classroom show that breakfast is key.”

5 Best Dog Breeds for Families By Ashley L Do you have a child that is bugging you constantly for a dog? Are you running out of excuses for getting one? Maybe it’s time to add that new furry member to your family, but before you decide, there are a few key factors you should take into consideration. While we all tend to choose the cutest puppy we see, it’s not necessarily the best way to choose a dog. When looking for the perfect dog for your family, be sure to also consider size, temperament, your living situation, and cost of ownership. Gaining knowledge of these factors, will ensure you find the best suitable breed for your family’s lifestyle. With over 150 dog breeds to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming finding the right breed for you. So, to lend you a helping hand, I have compiled a list of 5 of the best known dog breeds for families. 1. Labrador Retriever Recognized by the AKC, as the most popular dog breed in the United States, these gentle and affectionate dogs make excellent pets for families. Smart, obedient, and devoted, Labs are good with children of all ages, as well as other dogs and pets. Although, they are known to be very friendly, they are also a very protective breed, and are great choices for those wanting added security for their family. As a member of the working class, Labradors are extremely energetic and require lots of exercise to stay healthy. 2. Golden Retriever Similar to the Labrador, Golden Retrievers are very sweet and affectionate family dogs that love pleasing their owners. Their patience and gentle disposition, make them great companions for children of all ages. Whether it’s chasing a ball, swimming in a lake, or hiking in the mountains, these highly intelligent animals are ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. Like other larger dog breeds, Golden Retrievers are extremely energetic and require daily exercise, to keep healthy and burn off excess energy. 3. Beagle Known to most as the hunting dog, these floppy eared hounds make great pets for families with children. They are very gentle, loving, and loyal animals with spunky personalities, that are sure to win over your heart. Although, Beagles are very intelligent animals, they have been known to be quite stubborn, and love to get into mischief. Their innate ability for tracking and curious nature often get these pups into trouble. For this reason, they do best in homes, with large fenced in yards, to provide security and decrease the chance of your pet running off. Beagles do well in most living situations, but are very energetic and require lots of exercise. 4. Bulldogs Don’t let their tough exterior fool you, Bulldogs are one of the most gentle dog breeds and have a very sweet personality. Their thick, rugged build make them an excellent choice for families with rambunctious children. Although, they are not the most energetic of dog breeds, they love to play and require lots of attention. The Bulldog’s mellow attitude make them a great indoor pet, and perfect for families who live in apartments or have small yards. 5. Dachshund Nicknamed the “weiner dog”, for its hot dog shaped appearance, Dachshunds have been a family favorite for years. Their short, stubby legs and long, floppy ears are sure to make you smile. Similar to the Bulldog, Dachshunds are definitely not the most energetic breed, but love attention and make great indoor pets. Although, they tend to be shy around new people, they adapt well to most living environments, and get along great with other pets and children of all ages.

Accrued interest and additional advances, if any, will increase this figure prior to sale. It is possible that at the time of sale the opening bid may be less than the total indebtedness due. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 714-573-1965 or visit this Internet Web site www.priorityposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case 0125001474. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. This property which is subject to this Notice of Sale does not fall within the purview of California Civil Code Section 2923.5.
