Five Exciting Fall 2012 Menswear Fashion Trends
By Reena Das The insatiable quest for new and exciting fashion trends continues. Menswear is no exception. While you are indulging in chilled beers and sandy beaches, department stores and designers are busy getting their latest fall 2012 collections ready. When it comes to men’s fashion, there may be less room to experiment; however, designers have come up with fresh interpretations that will keep you looking fashionforward and on trend. Let’s check out some of the key looks that will be hot and smoking in fall 2012.
Croc Pants
When Italo Zucchelli unveiled his new collection for Calvin Klein, the fashion world went into a frenzy. His novel treatments and interpretations of Calvin’s understated elegant style were fresh, bold, and creative. Among the myriad menswear styles that were showcased by Zucchelli, one that stood out was the indulgence of alligators. The designer kicked off the show with a tailored sweatshirt with alligator sleeves and culminated it with slim alligator trousers and a matching blazer. Page 4
Size Matters
When it comes to fall 2012 menswear, size matters. While oversized and roomy coats and parkas were a fall staple, designers have taken the concept and given it a new dimension. The extra roomy and baggy outerwears are over-the-top and make even the tallest of dudes feel like midgets. Zucchelli kept his out-of-proportion winter outerwear elegant with his camel color choice, while Dior Homme experimented with printed doves. No matter how the individuals conceptualized the styles, one thing that stood out was the size.
Head-to-Toe Whites
Popular in the women’s fashion scene, the monochromatic white dressing had traces in men’s fashion scene. The fall 2012 runway shows saw several new innovations with the all-white trend. Although pristine, the designers worked with the masculine silhouette to create styles that were powerful and sexy. Designer Phillip Lim worked the trend and styled white tailored pants with a white turtleneck and a matching white overcoat; however,
The Newport News
the leather accents provided the much-needed manly respite.
Velvet
We may have relegated velvet to holidays, but it will be one of the most popular fabric choices for men in the coming months. Fall 2012 menswear saw a velvet overload. Designers like Alexander McQueen played with the fabric to create structured jackets, Burberry gave it a head-to-toe look by styling two complementary colors together. So no matter what your style statement is, you can look forward to incorporating the trend to your fall wardrobe.
Suits
The ubiquitous choice when it comes to formals is a suit. The fall 2012 fashion scene found a predominance of tailored, slim, and fitted suits. One collection that stood out for me was the Yves Saint Laurent interpretation of the classic suit. Stefano Pilati’s show for the French label highlighted styles that oozed power with immaculately tailored double-breasted suits accentuated with leather lapels.

Michael Feinstein – multi-platinum artist, two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award nominee and champion of the Great American Songbook – returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts for a one-night-only performance on Saturday October 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Project pays tribute to the rich Sinatra musical legacy in his own brilliant interpretations all backed by a 17-piece big band. The program includes renditions of Sinatra’s familiar as well as obscure songs which Feinstein described as “different ways that still reflected his style and approach. It was a way into the material that allowed me to honor him without copying; to bring the essence of him through without being an imitator.” Tickets to Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Project start at $45 and are available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 5562787. For inquiries about group ticket savings for 10 or more, call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236. The TTY number is (714) 556-2746. Segerstrom Center for the Arts applauds Omaha Steaks International and HÔM Sotheby’s International Realty for their support of Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Project. Acura is the Official Automotive Sponsor of the Center. Michael Feinstein, “The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook,” is considered one of the premier interpreters of American standards. His 200-plus shows a year have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and the Hollywood Bowl as well as the White House and Buckingham Palace.
More than simply a performer, Feinstein has received national recognition for his commitment to celebrating America’s popular song and preserving its legacy for the next generation. In 2007, he founded the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, dedicated to celebrating the art form and preserving it through educational programs, Master Classes, and the annual High School Vocal Academy and Competition, which awards scholarships and prizes to students across the country. Feinstein serves on the Library of Congress’ National Recording Preservation Board, an organization dedicated to ensuring the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America’s sound recording heritage. He earned his fifth Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for The Sinatra Project, his Concord Records CD celebrating the music of “Ol’ Blue Eyes.” The Sinatra Project, Volume II: The Good Life was released last year. His
Emmy nominated TV special, Michael Feinstein–The Sinatra Legacy, which was taped live at the Palladium in Carmel, IN, is currently airing across the country. Last year’s PBS series Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook was the recipient of the ASCAP Deems-Taylor Television Broadcast Award. The series returned in 2012 for a second season, which is now available on DVD. For his nationally syndicated public radio program Song Travels, Feinstein interviews and performs alongside music luminaries such as Bette Midler, Neil Sedaka, Liza Minnelli, Moby, Rickie Lee Jones, David Hyde Pierce and more. Through his live performances, recordings, film and television appearances, and his songwriting (in collaboration with Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Lindy Robbins and Carole Bayer Sager), Feinstein is an allstar force in American music. “OC CAN YOU SING?” Pacific Symphony is asking for the second time: “OC Can You Sing?” Due to the popularity of the Symphony’s first amateur singing competition back in 2011, “OC Can You Sing?” returns and has expanded beyond Orange County to include residents of the Inland Empire and the Greater Los Angeles area. All aspiring singers are encouraged to compete for this unique opportunity to perform with the orchestra onstage in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. In addition, they receive coaching from Broadway star Lisa Vroman! To apply, contest hopefuls should submit a video to the Symphony of themselves singing a song of their choice by Nov. 30; for applications and additional information, visit: www.PacificSymphony. org/OCCanYouSing On Dec. 17, online voting of semifinalists’ videos begins! Finalists are chosen from the top videos and announced on Jan. 24. Those finalists compete during the third Pops concert of the Symphony’s season in February, featuring saxophone icon Kenny G. Patrons attending the concerts then determine the winner by on-site voting. The winner returns as a featured soloist on a future Symphony Pops program. “‘OC Can You Sing?’ is especially exciting because it brings out people who love to sing and perform,” says Principal Pops
Conductor Richard Kaufman. “One of the greatest things about this competition is that anyone (over the age of 18) can participate. The more people who want to show us their talents, the better! Whether you sing Broadway, Classical, music from motion pictures or your school fight song—we want to hear you! And we want to make sure it’s a fun experience. Last time, we discovered we had an awful lot of talented people living here—so I can’t wait to see what this year’s competition reveals!” Some may remember round one of “OC Can You Sing?,” when the Symphony first tapped the dreams so many have of becoming an “American Idol.” The singing competition began as the second initiative under the project umbrella, “OC Can You Play?” In March 2011, four finalists went on to compete at the Symphony’s Pops concert featuring “American Idol” finalist Katharine McPhee, led by Maestro Kaufman, in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Contest winner Cody Morgan—who won over the hearts and votes of the audience with his rendition of “If Ever I Would Leave You,” from Camelot—was then featured as a soloist on the Symphony’s Pops concerts featuring Roberta Flack last February. “When I walked out on stage, it was intimidating, to say the least—but also

incredibly exciting!” says Morgan. “I’d never performed live with a professional orchestra. And I was in competition with some great musicians. When I found out I won, it was even more exciting! It was a huge deal, an honor and a privilege that I will never forget.” “When I was informed that I was a semifinalist, I was so thrilled,” says Amanda Strader, who was the first of the semifinalists to perform. “It’s like the Olympics really, the person going first either sets the bar or falters, so my aim was high—set the bar! as a finalist!” “OC Can You Sing?” began in 2011 as one part of the Symphony’s three-pronged initiative, “OC Can You Play?,” which included a three-week-long project, featuring 20 pianos, colorfully hand-painted by local artists, on display throughout Orange County for everyone to play and enjoy. The final initiative was “OC Can You Play With Us?,” amateur musicians performing side-by-side with Symphony musicians. “OC Can You Play With Us?” returned in 2012, due to popular demand, with double the number of amateur musicians.

Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves – filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. The show features a brandnew Tony-winning score with music by Bon Jovi’s founding member and keyboardist David Bryan and lyrics by Bryan and Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change), who also pens the musical’s book. George (producer of the Tony-nominated Bedroom Farce and the film My

Post raves “Of such thrills, Broadway is made,” Newsday calls the show “A smash! An extraordinary show,” the Daily News promises that Memphis will “Blast you out the door humming and happy” and NY1’s Roma Torre cheers, “Memphis ROCKS!” For more information, please visit: www.memphisthemusical.com.

Laura’s House Annual Gala “Music of the Night” Nets $150,000 Around 275 guests arrived at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa dressed in attire inspired by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera,” for the Laura’s House annual gala, “Music of the Night.” From the reception area to the silent auction to the grand ballroom, it was a sea of ornate feathered masks as $150,000 was raised to help fund the vital programs and services that the organization provides to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. “We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended our annual gala this year, and helped to make it such a huge success by opening their hearts and wallets to provide us with the financial support that we need to sustain the programs and services that we provide to individuals and families that are impacted by domestic violence here in Orange County, and beyond,” said Margaret Bayston, CEO and Executive Director, Laura’s House. “Music of the Night” began with a reception for Major Donors to the recently completed Cornerstone Capital Campaign, a $4.5 million fundraising initiative that enabled Laura’s House to rebuild its emergency shelter, and purchase a separate facility for its Step Ahead Transitional Housing Program for shelter graduates. Laura’s House board members and supporters gathered to recognized Orange County philanthropist Anne MacPherson, along with Campaign chair Wayne Pinnell and his wife Karen; and, Laura Khouri, Chair of the Laura’s House Board of Directors, for their steadfast support in helping to achieve the Campaign’s fundraising goals. Each of the honorees received a hand selected crystal cut bowl or vase from Tiffany & Co. During the cocktail reception guests munched on selection of passed hors d’oeuvres and perused a silent auction featuring more than 200 items including exciting travel and entertainment experiences, culinary adventures, and a “Wall of Wine” offering a seemingly endless selection of top-rated wines and tasting experiences from around the world. Following the silent auction, guests were invited in the Grand Pacific Ballroom for the dinner and program, featuring Vikki Vargas, Orange County Bureau Chief for NBC4 as Master of Ceremonies. Khouri was presented with the “Power Packed Philanthropy Award,” which recognized her for her generous contributions to Laura’s House. This year’s Crystal Heart Awards honorees were Orange County philanthropist Anne MacPherson, representing The Joe MacPherson Foundation and Edwards Lifesciences for their corporate philanthropy. MacPherson was again recognized by Laura’s House for her generous contributions to the Cornerstone Capital Campaign and commitment to the Laura’s House mission. Amanda Fowler, Executive Director of Global Corporate Giving, accepted the award on behalf of Edwards Lifesciences, which was honored for its spirit of philanthropy, commitment to the Laura’s House mission and dedication to assisting victims of domestic violence through their corporate giving initiatives and volunteer program. Three shelter graduates then came to the stage, to share their testimony of how Laura’s House helped them, before debuting its new video, “Kim’s Story,” which featured a woman who was able to rebuild a life that was free of domestic violence with the help she received while living in the Laura’s House Emergency Shelter. Auctioneer Mike Shumard took the stage for the “Rebuild a Life” auction to solicit sponsorships for the Laura’s House Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Center, Counseling and Resource Center, Legal Advocacy program, and Healthy Emotions and Attitudes for Teens in Relationships (H.E.A.R.T.) community outreach program, and basic needs. The live auction that followed featured a French vacation with a two-night stay at the luxurious Hotel le Bristol in Paris, followed by a three-night stay at any one of the more than 520 Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties worldwide; two VIP tickets for a live broadcast of Season 15 of “Dancing with the Stars”, a onePage 10

12 Fashion Suggestions for Men Over 50 By Laurie Jo Miller Farr These days, men over 50 can look great...and, many do! Hollywood brings us certified foxes including George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Denzel Washington, Hugh Grant, Antonio Banderas. Television brings us Matt Lauer and Brian Williams, frequent fixtures on the best-dressed list. Not to mention, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are over 50 and over 60, respectively. Most importantly, quality and a good fit to whatever you wear are the two most important things to get right after age 50.
A good watch and optional wedding band is all the jewelry a well-dressed man needs. Keep shoes in good condition and regularly polished. Wear black shoes with a black belt for a dressier look. Get a new belt rather than showing the buckle holes that no longer fit. Add a pocket square? Yes.
Do get a well-tailored blazer A sharp navy blazer, a seersucker for summer and a tweed sport coat for fall and winter are go-to items that every man should have for those smart casual occasions when a jacket is required. Do have a good dark suit Coordinate with gray trousers or khakis Even if you aren’t wearing a suit every- or jeans and a polo shirt to look your day, have a couple on hand in dark navy relaxed best. and gray. If you haven’t worn a suit lately, try yours on to ensure they still have an Do look after your clothing excellent fit to create a good-looking Even when you’re tired, always empty silhouette. your pockets, remove coins. Line up the seams of your trousers before handing Do invest in crisp white shirts them from the waistband or fold neatly You simply cannot have too many across a hanger with a wide padded bar. basic white dress shirts at any age. Hang your jacket on a wooden hanger. They don’t need to be expensive, by any means. If you’ve always worn a certain Do dry clean selectively collar size and you now need to go up Dry clean a suit coat and trousers half an inch, do it. together so they show the same amount of wear. This can be as infrequently as Do pay attention to accessories once or twice a year, unless you’re wear-
ing the suit regularly. Chemicals are not good for the fibers. Don’t leave clothing in plastic When you do dry clean, dispose of the wire hangers and unpack the clothing to allow air to circulate. Do not use the plastic bags for storage, although they can be useful when packing for a suitcase full of wrinkle-free items on arrival. Don’t scrimp on your suit Pulling out a classic, well-fitting suit for a special occasion will make you feel great. This is one item you do not want to nickel and dime, which may mean it’s time for a new fitting. Don’t wear old white shirts Once that crisp white shirt is no longer crisp nor white, it’s time to get it off your back. My father used to pass them down to his daughters for our messy arts and crafts playtime or cookie baking sessions.
Men over 50 don’t belong in too-tight shirts, decal T-shirts, puffy down jackets, biker jackets, leather bombers, or dangly earrings. Even the 62-year-old intrepid adventurer, Sir Richard Branson, normally wears a blazer, a white shirt, and jeans.
Don’t follow fads Don’t wear that Hawaiian shirt Denim is fine, dark is best. No ripped Unless you’re on a tropical vacation or at the beach, forget bright floral prints. or torn jeans, no baggy ones. Jeans that droop around the rear are not a good And that goes for ties, too. look on anyone, and are an unforgivable Don’t dress younger than your years no-no for those of a certain age.
Heads up! People Notice Your Shoes By Sylvie Branch You may have heard that women notice the shoes you are wearing and that you will be judged accordingly. Not only is that often true, but other men, employers, potential clients and your employees may also be secretly rating you according to the style, color and condition of your shoes. All this pressure could turn you into a man who never wears anything but sneakers or pigeonhole you as the man who wears boots. Take a risk and try something different. At the very least, pair your shoes with the right outfit. The following 10 fashion tips for men’s shoes are guidelines that will serve you well. Get familiar with the wide variety of men’s shoes available to you. If you have been hiding behind work boots or Chucks your entire adult life, at least consider the possibilities. There are loafers, sandals, lug soles, sneakers, moccasins, oxfords, wing tips, cowboy boots and much, much more. Take a cue from your shirt. If you are in a quandary over what style of shoes to wear with a pair of jeans or casual pants, consider the style of shirt you are wearing; button-down shirts can handle a dressier loafer (except flannel button-downs--they look better paired with a sturdier shoe), a sweater or thick Henley shirt looks nice
with thicker soled shoes or boots, and a polo can be paired with athletic shoes or a casual loafer style shoe. Jeans can be paired with nearly any style of shoe depending on the shirt you are wearing. However, shiny dress shoes should be saved for a suit situation and sports-specific shoes like running shoes look better with workout wear. Speaking of athletic shoes, there are several sports-specific shoes that are fantastic for training or competing in, but do not translate as well into day to day life. Having a pair of casual sneakers is a good idea. Saving the workout gear for working out extends the life of your equipment and presents a more polished image to the world. Socks do not have to match your shoes. This is the safest bet with men’s shoes; black shoes with black socks and brown shoes with brown socks. But it is possible to accessorize with a little pattern or color in your socks. Do keep the style consistent though. No one wants to see white sport socks with your wing tips, ‘kay? Men’s shoes should generally match the color of your pants. Black shoes with black pants, grey or navy. Brown goes best with tan, brown, beige, green or other earth toned pants. Khaki, light brown, blue and grey pants can all potentially work
with burgundy shoes and tan shoes go well with light earth tones, blues, beige and white. Match your belt to your shoes. This simply makes the outfit look more pulled together, and saves you the trouble of wondering what belt to wear. If you can not match the belt color-wise, at least keep the style consistent. A sporty canvas belt works with sporty casual shoes and dressier belts are for dressier shoes. Find a pair of dress shoes that suit your style. A shiny black tie up or a nice slip on is just good to have on hand. If
you do not see yourself as a man who normally wears formal clothing, choose a pair that are timeless classics with simple, very basic styling. On the other hand, if you are often in the public eye wearing a suit, look for a more fashion forward pair. The effort will be noticed by your peers and the women in your life. Sandals are a great summer option, minus the socks. Socks and sandals are not a good look. Above all, no matter what, please remember to keep you shoes clean. Dirty shoes are not attractive and reveal more than you want them to.

Men: Tips on Dressing for Power By Tamara Hardison In a recent article, author Riley Hilton discusses the definition, art, and importance of “power dressing.” Power dressing is all about looking like you belong doing what you’re doing and projecting the right image. As Hilton states, “if you look like a millions bucks, it shouldn’t take long for you to make (italics mine) that much.” A man who is dressed well and looks attractive and sharp exudes confidence. A confident man looks like the sort of man who can get a job done and get it done better than any one else around. Not only that, a confident man looks like the sort of man who can be approached and who can be trusted. No wonder why women are attracted to a man who is dressed well. What women want and the business world want in a man is actually synonymous-a man who looks like he plays the part; a man who looks like he cares about himself, the people around him, and can get things done. And, in the business world, what is the one thing that projects that I-am-a-man-ofpower image first-his suit. Knowing how to choose a suit and how to wear it will help you project that powerful image to attract women and the whole world around you. The Right Fabric The single most important factor in choosing a suit is knowing what fabric to choose. Unless you have a whole closet already full of suits, what you want to buy is one made of worsted wool. Worsted refers to the smooth texture of the cloth and that the yarn is twisted. As Daniel Billet says in his article, “6 Things to Consider When Shopping For a Man’s Suit,” worsted wool suits usually come in 60 or 80 twist wools and what is also very popular these days are suits with tags that say “Super 100,” which means that the wool has been twisted 100 times. Whether the suit’s tag says 60, 80, or 100 worsted wool doesn’t matter-either way, because of the twisted yarn, the fabric of worsted wool suits will retain their shape when being worn and not wrinkle. Plus, depending on where you live, worsted wool suits can be worn all-year long. The Fit of Your Suit The fit of a man’s suit is the most noticeable detail about the suit. The way a man’s suit fits-incorrectly vs. correctly-is what gives a man that look that says, “Hey, I know what I’m doing; I can be trusted.” And a man will never achieve that look if he simply trusts his tailor. He has to know for himself. The Jacket: The fit of a man’s jacket is what says that he either does or does not know his size. The jacket fits only if (a) you cannot see the outline of your own shoulder in the sleeve; and (b) there is no overhang, or sagging at the shoulder pad. The length of the jacket should also be correct. With your hands at your sides, the hem of your jacket should be even with your knucklesPage 18
or it should be just long enough to cover your butt. Anything longer or shorter than this looks terrible. Also, the cuff of your dress shirt must always protrude from your jacket by about a quarter to half an inch, and, as the article from Esquire titled, “The Right Fit,” recently posted on MSN states, “maintaining this is one of life’s greatest challenges.” The Buttons of the Jacket: As Esquire says, only one button, please! On a two button jacket, a man should only button the top button. On a three button jacket, a man should only button the middle button, or one can do as the models do and leave either the top or the bottom one unbuttoned-your preference. On a double-breasted jacket, a man may leave only the lower-right button open. Also, if any creases or ripples radiate from your fastened buttons, your suit doesn’t fit. The Pants: The hem of a man’s pants should cover the lace-ups of his shoes. And in the back, the hem should hang about an inch over the welt of the shoes. Also, the front crease of the pants should never be dead straight; it should break at about mid-shin. If it doesn’t break, the pants do not actually fit. Also, a man’s suit will not fit correctly if he doesn’t know his true waist measurement. Your true waist measurement is neither across your hips, nor across your naval-it’s half way in between. The waistband should be comfortable enough for you to be able to stick two fingers into it. And, in general, flat front pants are the most flattering on a man, rather than pleated fronts. The Dress Shirt: The fit of a man’s dress shirt is also key to a man’s attractive and powerful image. The shirt collar only fits properly if you can just stick one finger between the collar and your neck. The shirt does not fit if it pulls across your chest or if it rides back up over your shoulders, making you want to keep pulling it down. The sleeves should come down to about an inch above your wrist bone; and remember to maintain that quarter to half-inch protrusion from your suit jacket. Also, when shopping for a high-quality dress shirt, make sure that there isn’t any puckering in any of the seams. But, Billet suggests in his article, “Custom Shirts-Tailoring Your Shirt to Look Made-To-Measure,” what will give your dress shirt that extra polished finishthat finishing touch that looks oh so sexy and shows that you have fine taste and pay attention to detail-is taking your dress shirt to the tailor to give it that made-for-you, or custom-fitted look. All that the look requires is to take the shirt in at the sides a bit, or to add darts down the back. Very easy; very cheap. Also, do you know the difference between a dress shirt and a sport shirt? Dress shirts are made of higher quality cotton and should fit like they were tailored for you, while sport shirts are meant to be more casual shirts, are made of cheaper quality,
The Newport News
and fit more loosely. Aman who wears a dress shirt without also wearing, at least, suit pants and a tie (assuming that he’s removed his suit jacket because he is working hard) looks sloppy. And a man looks equally sloppy who wears a sport shirt underneath his jacket and tie. For day, every man should have a blue and a white dress shirt, and for evening occasionsa black one. But if you really want to grab attention and show both women and the office that you have both the highlevel confidence to get things done and the sensitivity to pay close attention to the details to getting things done, then buy a pink dress shirt. The Finer Details: Here are the final details that need to be properly paid attention to. Without these, a man will really ruin the image he is trying so hard for. Know how to tie your tie: 1) The knot should be big enough to sit under the collar without any of the collar’s fabric showing either above or on either side of the knot. If the fabric of your collar shows, either you need a smaller collar, need to learn how tie a larger knot, or have it tied to loose. 2) You need to secure one dimple below the knot by pinching the fabric with your fingers and make certain that the edges of the fabric are curled under. 3) The point of your tie should drape slightly over your waistband, just like this. Do not wear a short tie; it looks ridiculous. Always wear a tie clip, or tiepin. The man who pays close attention to detail will always wear a tie clip, or tiepin. Not only does it keep your tie from flopping around in the wind in a ridiculous way, it polishes off your look with that tasteful spark of metal. Tie clips need to be slid on from the man’s right and grip both the tie and the placket of his shirt around the middle of his sternum. Cuff links are back in, and something with a flash of sterling silver, like these by Dolan and Bullock, will really make your look shine. Always wear a belt. A belt really adds sophisticated detailing to your look, tying the whole thing together with the contrasting color of leather and the sparkle of metal. And always make certain that your belt matches your shoes. Try something sophisticated and elegant like the Hermes black and blue jeans reversible belt. You can buy it at a good bargain at www.bluefly. com. Wear a watch. A watch is another ac-
cessory every man should wear to give him that put-together look that says that he knows his business. The flash of metal looks very attractive on a man’s wrist. Try anything by Rolex. And, as a general rule, quartz is much more sophisticated and elegant than digital. Monogram your shirt. There is no better way to give you that man-of-power look than by adding a monogram to your dress shirt. This is the smallest detail that will make you look like a million bucks. The best place to put a monogram is below the middle of your breast pocket. And last, but not least-the handkerchief. Wearing a handkerchief in the breast pocket of your jacket will give you that final edge of power accompanied by an unmatchable air of sensitivity. You are now not just a man, you are a gentleman. White cotton handkerchiefs are usually the tradition; but feel free to create an even more powerful look with an extra dash of well coordinated color. One final word: As an Esquire article posted on MSN advised, “Leave the pockets of your suit jacket sealed, just the way came.” Your jacket will maintain its shape much better if you don’t open up the pockets to put your cell phones and keys into. And for those who are wondering, the three-button suit, like the black Alfani threebutton suit, is much sexier than a two button or a double breasted suit. It makes a man look taller, leaner, and sexier.
