The Daily Deals Site Experience by Christine Cadena Holiday shopping can lead to stress and anxiety for most of us - especially when we are struggling to find the perfect give while sticking to a strict budget. If you are like me - looking for ways to save money this year on holiday shopping - let me introduce you to Holiday Shopping 2.0. Developed as my own term, Holiday Shopping 2.0 refers to the online shopping adventure that is more than just a quick browse of online holiday deals with famous brand name retailers. In the 2.0 version of shopping this year, I’m taking shopping to a whole new level by picking up awesome, unique holiday on several different daily deal sites. What is a daily deal site? In most cases, these are small, family owned businesses, offering unique boutique items at extremely discounted prices. By offering the items for a limited time - usually 3 days - the mass hysteria that comes with group shopping results in massive quantities sold and low, low prices? For my holiday shopping this year, I’ve picked up cute sweater, blouses, monogrammed house décor, and even a few baby items - all at extremely low prices - saving as much as 75% off of retail. I have no affiliation with any of these stores, other than I
am a fan of the shopping experience and I really love the opportunity to stretch my holiday shopping dollars even farther. Want to try the Holiday Shopping 2.0 experience? It’s quite easy to find these sites. Just do a quick search engine browse for daily deal sites and you’ll find some of the biggest names in this new online shopping experience names like Snatchndash. com, SassySteals.com, a n d e v e n To A d o r n . com. Sign up for their newsletters and you’ll be kept apprised of their daily steals via email. Keep in mind, however, that there are limited quantities on these items so purchase your holiday gifts quickly. I learned the hard way - if you want to “think about it”, you may wait too long and that perfect holiday gift will be gone. Holiday shopping this year does not need to be as stressful as it has been in years past. Save money, save time, and find some of the coolest

When you have children most talk about what toys they would like for Christmas all year long. If your children are like mine they start a Christmas list for Santa even before summer. Fall is when the attention to the lists really amps up. This coincides with the arrival of holiday toy commercials on television. By Halloween I have already heart so much about toys there is no doubt what the hot toys are for the season. Here are just a few of the top holiday toys for 2013. Just a little help figuring out what your children, no matter their age will be putting on their must have list. Preschool 1) Twilight Turtle Tunes - Both of my daughters have an original Cloud B Twilight Turtle and have been using it nightly for years. This year you can purchase the same popular light with the addition of lullaby’s to sooth your little one to sleep. Each night light projects a constellation of stars on the ceiling and walls. You can choose to have the stars in blue, green or amber. It also is equipped with a timer that will automatically shut off after 45 minutes to help save batteries. It comes pre-set with lullabies or parents can even create a personalized one. This toy is already hard to find online so if you are interested start shopping early. Price ranges from $50- $55 depending on where you shop. 2) Big Hugs Elmo - Elmo is popular with babies, toddlers and preschoolers. This “Sesame Street” favorite has true staying power with kids over the years. Sure to be one of the most coveted toys this Christmas is this big stuffed Elmo. When hugged
he hugs back, it also plays songs, dances and imitates play with your child. Another adorable feature is when he is laid down flat he sings and yawns like he is tired. Elmo is priced at $49.00. 3) Doc McStuffins Get Better Checkup Center - This holiday toy is priced higher at around $89.00. If your children are fans of the popular Disney character and her television show this is a good choice. This doctor center comes with a play lab coat; the x-rays have lights and talk, a medical kit and stickers. Everything a child could want to make everyone well. School Age 1) Razor Spark 2.0 Scooter - Razor scooters have been popular with kids for a few years. This year they have the addition of motion activated LED lights underneath. They also have a replaceable spark bar that creates a trail of sparks as they ride. These scooters are priced regularly $around $70.00. At the time of this article some stores have this scooter on sale for about ten dollars less. With any bike or scooter remember to invest in a helmet and safety gear it is essential. 2) My Little Pony Equestria Dolls - For the 2013 holiday toys the popular “My Little Pony” line has produced dolls based on the horse characters. Starting at $12.99 a doll they are similar to Bratz or Barbie dolls. Each has similar colors and styling of the
horse counterpart of the same name. The dolls come with accessories like sunglasses, wings or a hair brush. 3) Nerf Rebelle Heatbreaker Bow and Arrow - With the phenomenal success of “The Hunger Games” kids of all ages are suddenly anxious to shoot a bow and arrow like Katniss. Instead of investing a lot of money in an expensive, and more dangerous bow and arrow this toy is a perfect compromise. For under $20.00 you can give them a chance to learn how to shoot safely. This surprisingly powerful bow can shoot the safe darts up to 75 feet. For extra fun you can also purchase an extra dart set with an ammo belt.

105th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade Join over a million viewers as you watch beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes sail along the harbor in the 105th Annual Newport Beach Christmas B o a t Pa ra d e . Ho s te d b y t h e Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, we invite you to celebrate this year as we feature the theme “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!” Beautiful multi-million dollar yachts, kayaks, canoes and other small boats will light up the harbor as a dazzling array of holiday lights and music fill the air at the Christmas Boat Parade. Many of the boats will be richly decorated with animated Christmas scenes accompanied by music and costumed carolers. Some boat owners in the past have spent over $50,000 to decorate their vessels for the event. The Christmas floats will wind their way some 14 miles around the harbor to give viewers in restaurants, yacht clubs, on public beaches, and in private homes an incredible sight that has delighted millions of people for a century. The Christmas Boat Parade, which has been hailed as “one of
the top ten holiday happenings in the nation” by the New York Times, is truly a magical holiday tradition for all ages. The parade continues to be a premier event during the holiday season in Southern California that brings joy and happiness to all that view it. Parade As Newport Beach’s Christmas Card to the world, the boat parade will set the harbor ablaze for five consecutive nights, beginning Wednesday, December 18 and ending Sunday, December 22, 2013. The parade starts off Bay
Island at 6:30 pm and finishes at the same site at approximately 9:00 pm each evening. Fireworks There will be two nights of Fireworks this year! Opening night December 18th starting at 6:20pm and closing night December 22nd starting at 9pm. MIRACLES FOR KIDS RAISES OVER $850,000 AT ANNUAL GALA

Sugar Ray Leonard and Harper Heil Miracles for Kids, a nonprofit serving children with life-threatening illnesses and their low-income families throughout Southern California, announced that its 9th annual Night of Miracles Gala held at the St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, raised over $850,000 making Miracles Are Forever its most successful gala to-date. Proceeds from the event fund the organizations programs that provide aid to hundreds of low-income families who are crumbling under the financial hardship of caring for children with life-threatening illnesses. Miracles for Kids currently operates at CHOC Childrens and Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, and is expanding its programs to support other regional childrens hospitals within the next year. More than 660 of Southern Californias most notable philanthropists and celebrities attended the popular annual event, emceed by Neil Everett co-host the of the 11:00pm edition of SportsCenter. Themed Miracles Are Forever, the 9th annual gala immersed guests in the spectacle of the world’s favorite secret agent, James Bond. Incredible performances by iL CIRCo the critically acclaimed troupe of gravity defying acrobats entertained guests for the second year in a row, in addition to exciting live and silent auctions. Guests also enjoyed an exclusive taste of specially prepared NOLETs Silver Dry Gin cocktails, donated by Miracles for Kids event sponsor and longtime supporter Carl Nolet and NOLET Spirits U.S.A. The most impactful moment of the evening arrived just after the most somber. Directly following an incredibly moving patient profile video on Michael Mikey Reyes diagnosed with brain stem glioma at age 6, an aggressive and cancerous tumor inside of the brain stem the galas guests proved why Night of Miracles is such a unique charity event. The Fund-a-Family fundraiser directly followed the video, led by auctioneer Jim Nye and assisted by Miracles for Kids patients, with approximately $292,000 raised from over 200 bidders in the room. One-hundred percent of the funds were donated to the organizations Grant Program, which provides basic living expenses for families with children currently undergoing treatment. Always an enthusiastic auctioneer, Nye led a captivating live auction that showcased luxury getaways, unforgettable experiences, and exclusive packages. This years items included a one-week escape to Tony Robbins Namale Resort and Spa in Fiji that went for $17,000; a one-week vacation to Casa Todo Bien in Punta Mita that raised $22,0000; a Bond-themed package that went for $7,500 which included a flight in a WWII P-51 Mustang and a weekend ownership of a brand-new 2013 Aston Martin; and an adorable, purebred, 10-week-old Silky Terrier puppy complete with a lifetime of obedience classes that went for $8,000. Once again, Miracles for Kids offered electronic bidding technology through Autumn Strier and Kenneth Apolo Ohno and Claire Nguyen BidPal for the silent auction portion of the evening, making the event almost Gerdau entirely electronic. Guests bid on items ranging from luxury hotel packages to unique cases of wine. Come with family and friends and take this enchanting night ride through historic Irvine Regional Park to meet Santa Claus. The train will depart from the brightly-lit train station and drop passengers off at the North Pole. Children can share their wish list with Santa and have their photo taken with him too. You may take pictures with your personal camera or you may purchase a photo taken by Irvine Park Railroad. After visiting with Santa, hop back aboard the train and enjoy the colorful Christmas lights and decorations, as well as the magical “Tunnel of Lights”, on the ride back to Santa’s Village.
