In 2008, Vroman made her Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Pops, starred as Lili Vanessi in “Kiss Me Kate” with Glimmerglass Opera, sang the role of Birdie in “Regina” with Utah Opera, made her New Jersey Opera debut as Rosalinda in “Die Fledermaus,” and premiered two

Everyone seems to make or buy Christmas desserts to bring to a holiday get-together. Be different this year and bring a festive Christmas pie, instead of the usual cake or cookies. Pies are usually easier to make then a decorated cake, so this could be a time saver as well. In this article, I will show you quick and easy festive Christmas pie that you can make with only a few ingredients. These Christmas pies will look as good as they taste, with fresh wholesome ingredients that look very festive. Pies In most grocery stores today, you can find those crushed cookie piecrusts just waiting for a filling. This is primarily the type of pies that we will be creating in because they are quick and easy and you can really make them festive Christmas pies with minimal effort. Chocolate peppermint pie You will need a chocolate cookie piecrust, cool whip, vanilla pudding, peppermint flavoring, and pieces of peppermint candy. We are going to fill the piecrust with a nice mint flavored vanilla pudding, and spread cool whip on the pie. To make this pudding, you simply need a few drops of peppermint flavoring, which will be added to the vanilla pudding, creating a nice peppermint flavor. Sprinkle tiny pieces on crushed peppermint candy on top of the cool whip. This makes a very festive Christmas dessert for holiday get-togethers where you need
a dish to pass. Christmas Reindeer Tracks You will need a chocolate cookie piecrust, cool whip, vanilla pudding, mini chocolate chips, and one plain Hershey’s milk chocolate bar. Mix the mini chocolate chips into the vanilla pudding, and pour this mixture into the chocolate cookie crust. Set the pie into the refrigerator so the pudding can thicken for about half an hour or so. Spread cool whip over the top of the pie, and shred the plain Hershey’s milk chocolate over the pie, this makes a very delicious and festive Christmas dessert. Christmas Chocolate Banana You will need a chocolate cookie piecrust, cool whip, banana pudding,
mini chocolate chips, a banana, and one plain Hershey’s milk chocolate bar. Into the chocolate piecrust, slice the banana, arranging the slices so they line the bottom of the pie shell, and slides if you have enough. Mix the mini chocolate chips into the banana pudding, and pour on top of the sliced bananas. Set the pie into the refrigerator so the pudding can thicken for about half an hour or so. Spread cool whip over the top of the pie, and shred the plain Hershey’s milk chocolate over the pie. With these Christmas pies, you will be the talk of the party. No one will believe that that these Christmas desserts only took a short time to make.

Christmas Dessert Ideas Recipes for Your Christmas Dessert Table By Heather Shockney Everyone loves the smell of cookies baking in the oven and pies cooling on the counter, what goodies will you be making for your dessert table this Christmas? Here are a few suggestions of some tried and true dessert recipes. First we will start with the cookies, this can be a great way to spend a snowy day with your children, and they will love to help you bake. A favorite Christmas cookie is the Sugar Cut-out cookie they are easy to make and lots of fun to decorate, here is a recipe for them from the food network, I use it every year and they turn out great. 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3/4-cup butter (1 1/2 sticks) 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Colored Icing, recipe to follow Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a bowl, stir together flour and baking powder. In another bowl, beat butter with sugar until fluffy and light. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture, a third at a time to make stiff dough. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll out a portion of cookie dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Place on lightly greased or nonstick cookie sheets. Bake until lightly golden, about 10 minute, rotating baking sheet halfway through cooking time. Cool completely on pans about 5 minutes, transfer to cooling racks and cool completely before decorating. Colored Icing: 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons water 3 to 4 drops food coloring, plus more as needed Colored sprinkles, optional In a small bowl, mix sugar and water to form a thick, smooth icing. Stir in food coloring to reach desired shade. Drop icing onto cookies using a small teaspoon and smooth with the back of the spoon. Make additional bowls for additional colors. Additional multi-colored sprinkles can be added on top of icing before it dries for more decorative cookies, if desired. Next a Family Favorite is the Peanut butter Blossoms. 48 Hershey’s Kisses 1/2 cup shortening 3/4 cup creamy Peanut Butter (I always use Jiff but you can use whichever type your family prefers) 1/3 cup granulated sugar 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1 egg 2 tablespoons milk 1-teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups flour 1-teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt Granulated sugar 1. Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates. Hide them or there won’t be any left when you need them. 2. Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and the brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; mix well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; slowly beat into peanut butter mixture. 3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar, I use sugar thats been colored red and green, place on ungreased cookie sheet. 4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around the edges. Remove from cookie sheet .Place on rack to cool . This recipe will make about 4 dozen cookies. What dessert table wouldn’t be perfect without some delicious pies? These can be the traditional pumpkin and pecan or you can add a few new ones to the bunch. Here is a great recipe for a easy Chocolate Mousse pie 1 Oreo pie crust (pre-made from store) 2 boxes instant chocolate pudding 1 tub of cool whip Chocolate chips to garnish Mix up pudding according to box for pie, with half the tub of cool whip with mixer. Put into crust then cover with remaining cool whip. Add chocolate chips on top to garnish and refrigerate till ready to serve. You might want to consider making two of these they usually go fast. The next dessert is for a Low Carb pumpkin Cheesecake; this would be great for your guests that are watching their weight. Low Carb Pumpkin Cheesecake Butter - enough to grease the pie pan 1/2 cup of ground nuts (I prefer pecans, you can probably use any nut) 1/4-tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp Splenda 16 ounces cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup Splenda 1/2-tsp vanilla extract 2 eggs 1/2 cup canned pumpkin 1/2-tsp pumpkin pie spice mix Heavily grease the bottom and sides of pie pan. Mix together nuts, 1/2 tsp Splenda and cinnamon Place nut mixture into greased pie
pan and swirl it around to coat the bottom and sides of pan. Pour out any nut mixture that doesn’t stick, set pan aside. Beat the cream cheese, Splenda, and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed. Add eggs and beat until well blended. Separate out one cup of batter and mix it with the pumpkin and spice. Pour plain batter into the nut crust Top with pumpkin batter. Bake at 350F for 30-40 minutes or until center is almost set. Refrigerate overnight. Here is a great recipe for Peanut butter Fudge this can be made and placed in tins to store or given for gifts. Peanut butter fudge 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of brown sugar 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup of evaporated milk Few grains of salt 3/4 cup of mini marshmallows Heaping cup of peanut butter 1 teaspoon of vanilla Cook sugar, butter, milk, and salt to soft ball stage (234-238 degrees F). Add marshmallows and peanut butter and immediately remove from heat. Do not stir. Cool to room temperature. Add vanilla. Beat until mixture is creamy, thick, and will hold its shape when dropped from a teaspoon. Pour into well-buttered shallow pan. Cut in squares. Another great candy recipe is the Oreo Balls They are great in tins and given as gifts as well. Oreo Balls 1 20 oz package Oreo’s (crushed) 1 8 oz package cream cheese (softened) 1 package White Almond Bark Combine crushed Oreos and cream cheese. Shape into balls Refrigerate to harden or 15 to 20 minutes in freezer
Dip balls in melted almond bark Put on metal cookie sheet Refrigerate to harden You may want to include some different types of beverages to go with the desserts; here are some that will go great with all the Christmas goodies. Sweet Hot Buttered rum 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter 1 pinch salt 3 sticks cinnamon 4 whole cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 cups rum whipped cream ground nutmeg Put all ingredients, except the rum and cream, and nutmeg into crock pot. Add 2 quarts hot water. Stir well. Cover; cook on low for 5 hours. Stir in rum. Top individual servings with whipped cream and a dash of nutmeg. Another Christmas Favorite is Hot cocoa 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4-cup sugar 4 cups milk 1/4-teaspoon vanilla Miniature marshmallows Blend cocoa and sugar in a small bowl. In a medium saucepan, heat milk to scalding. Mix about 1/3 cup of the hot milk into the cocoa-sugar mixture, then pour cocoa mixture into hot milk in the saucepan; stir until well blended. Stir in vanilla. Serve with mini marshmallows and a candy cane dipped in the cup. 4 servings These recipes along with all your family favorites will make a great dessert table at your Christmas dinner. You could also have the entire guest bring their favorite dessert and everyone can try new recipes.

Just like the technological advances in electronics where the IPhone changed the way we think about and use phones, there has been a significant technological leap forward in custom orthotics. It is estimated that 95% of the population suffers from mechanical foot imbalances. These are primarily seen as over pronation of the feet. Pronation is where the feet/arches collapse or the ankles tend to fall inward. Abnormal pronation is certainly seen with all flat feet, but people with high arches can also have pronation problems. While the average person might not be able to identify abnormal pronation, one can look at the results of pronation and determine if these new orthotics could be of benefit to them. If you have any of these problems, you are a candidate for the new Perfect Posture orthotics.
This list encompasses about 95% of the U. S. population!

You may ask, “What is so new about these Perfect Posture arch supports?” These orthotics utilize a new casting method that puts the foot into its best position. When the cast is made, the mold is actually the shape of the new orthotic. The new casting process results in a full contact orthotic which supports your foot so that there is contact with all parts of the foot in its optimal position. Another improvement from the old technology is the orthotic device is made of material that is calibrated to YOUR weight. Utilizing this new material and process results in an orthotic which will act as a spring for your arch, as it will flex just the right amount when walking, standing or exercising based on your weight. Should you gain or lose 15% of your weight the orthotic should be recalibrated. For patients who will say I already have orthotics, this situation is analogous to having an old cellular phone. Yes you have a phone but you get so much more function and convenience with smart phones. So discard those old orthotics and come in! You’ll benefit from the latest advances - while you get the most out of your feet - and your life!

Not home for the holidays: the beauty of holiday traveling Vocalists from Perry Como and the Carpenters to Michael Buble have warbled about how wonderful it is to be home for the holidays. But who says you have to buy into that belief? Not being home for the holidays offers many advantages, including the opportunity to travel, visit far-off loved ones or just immerse yourself in total relaxation during one of the most hectic times of the year. While families with small children may embrace the experience of decorating, cooking and gift-giving in the comfort of their own home, other groups - such as families with teens, couples without kids, and baby boomers who love to travel with friends - may feel ready to revel outside their home zone. Like traveling at any time of year, holiday trips are not without hassles, but the benefits can make the challenges worthwhile. Here are a handful of reasons why not being home for the holidays could make the season bright: * Total relaxation - Instead of hurrying to decorate your home, host a soiree, accept every invitation, prepare enough food to feed an armored battalion, and find exactly the right gift for everyone you’ve ever met, going away to a resort during the holidays can help ease holiday stress. Opt for a quintessential winter getaway like in the Village of Kohler, Wisc., and you’ll enjoy a snowy holiday season, complete with carolers, hot cocoa and holiday decor around every corner. The American Club Resort, one of only 45 hotels in North America to boast both AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Five-Star designations, has been hosting happy holidays for decades. Immerse yourself in spirit-soothing relaxation at Kohler Waters Spa, enjoy snow shoeing through an 800-acre wildlife preserve, or catch up on last-minute shopping at 25 specialty and boutique stores in the Shops at Woodlake Kohler.
* Visiting far-away loved ones - Is there an adored cousin whom you just don’t get to see that much anymore? A brother who lives five states away whom you haven’t shared the holidays with since you both lived with your parents? Giving up being in your own home for the holidays affords you the chance to enjoy part of the season in the home of loved ones you see infrequently. While you spend the whole year with the family you live with or the ones who live nearby, the holidays are the perfect time to re-connect with family and friends who live far away. And, if you don’t want to add to their stress during the season, you can find plenty of great hotel deals in cities across the country. * Savoring seasonal flavors without the work - Holiday cookies, pumpkin pie and elaborate dinners are an integral
part of the season for many people, but they’re also a lot of work. Staying in a hotel or luxury resort during the holidays ensures you’ll be able to enjoy all your favorite flavors of the season - prepared by a professional chef and leaving cleanup chores to someone else. Instead of spending hours in the kitchen preparing and cleaning, you’ll get to share those seasonal flavors with your traveling companions. * Great travel deals - Knowing many people prefer to stay home for the holidays, top hotels and resorts across the country offer travel packages, deals and incentives to entice holiday travelers. Add-ons abound, from all-inclusive offerings with meals, parties and special dinners, to shopping packages that provide travelers with access to and discounts for premium shopping venues.
Sink shopping 101: Is your sink ready for the hectic holidays? From enjoying a nice cup of coffee in the morning to putting the final touches on a homemade pie, the kitchen is the center of the home any time of year, but especially during the busy holiday season. The kitchen will be put to the test, filled to the brim with friends and loved ones, whipping up the family’s secret recipes. In order to handle the holiday season with ease, your sink needs to be in tip-top shape. Is yours up for the challenge? It may be time to replace your current sink if it’s leaking, chipping or the finish is lackluster. Before you make the big purchase, here’s your guide to buying a functional and stylish sink for your kitchen. Right size, right fit The first question to ask when looking for a new kitchen sink is about the sink size and number of bowls: Is your current sink too big, too small or just right? Keep in mind you should select a sink that fits in the existing countertop opening unless you are planning on replacing your counters. The main factor to consider when selecting your new sink is the number of bowls. To help make the selection, think about your kitchen habits and preferences. If you have limited counter space, you may want to select a single bowl sink; not only does it give you more workspace, it can also
accommodate larger trays and skillets. If you like to multi-task at the sink by soaking dishes on one side while prepping the meal on the other, a dual bowl sink will better meet your needs. Along with the number of bowls, also consider the depth when choosing a new sink. With a shallow sink, it’s easier to see any items left in it; the more depth a bowl has also means there’s more room, allowing you to worry less about dirty dishes being seen from afar or toppling over the edge. It’s easier than you think to find the right depth and style - Moen has a wide variety of stainless steel sinks; there’s a perfect option to meet all of your cooking and cleaning needs, with both single and double bowl configurations available. Best of all, every Moen sink features SoundSHIELD sounddeadening technology, assuring exceptional noise reduction. Suitable type Once you find the configuration and depth that’s right for your kitchen, it is time to select the sink type. A drop-in sink is level with your countertop, easy to install and is compatible with laminate and ceramic surfaces. Moen’s drop-in sinks feature a recessed deck, allowing sponges, or other wet items, to be placed on the inner ledge to drain back into the sink, as opposed to the countertop.
The other type of sink installation is an undermount. Here, the sink lip is mounted under the countertop, giving the counter a continuous flow into the sink, and making it easy to wipe away food, crumbs and water. Undermount sinks are a great fit for kitchens that have granite, marble or soapstone countertops. Since it adheres directly to the counter, these solid surface options can better support the weight of the sink. The gauge, or measurement of the thickness of material, should also be considered while shopping for a sink. Remember, the lower the number, the thicker the steel. Cooks and busy families may prefer heavier gauge sinks that will do a better job of resisting dents that can come from frequent use. Thicker steel will also minimize vibration from a disposal and prevent flexing or bowing when the faucet is mounted directly to the sink. Adding a second sink is a smart idea for kitchens with two cooks and households that frequently entertain. Creating a separate food prep station or beverage center complete with running water prevents congestion around your main sink and helps make the room feel more spacious. Choosing a bar/ prep sink that coordinates with the
rest of your kitchen is easy. Once this new work area is complete, you’ll appreciate having this practical luxury in your kitchen. Visually pleasing The last step is to pick the sink that is aesthetically pleasing to you and fits in with the style and decor of your kitchen. Kitchen sinks come in a variety of materials and finishes, the most popular and cost-effective material is stainless steel. It’s easy to clean and maintain, and has the added benefit of being heat and stain resistant. Breaking down each aspect of a potential kitchen sink purchase makes shopping a manageable task. Just remember to start with the basics: the configuration, how the sink will be installed and the overall look you’re trying to achieve to supplement your kitchen’s design. For more information about the Moen kitchen sinks, visit moen. com- or call 1-800-BUY-MOEN (1-800-289-6636).
