Newport Beach Transitions its Animal Sheltering Services

The City is pleased to announce its new partnership with Home Free Animal Sanctuary. On Wednesday, November 25, the City of Newport Beach (City) transitioned its animal sheltering s e r v i c e s . T h e C i t y ’s P o l i c e Department is pleased to announce its new partnership with Home Free Animal Sanctuary, a facility in a residential kennel district of Newport Beach. Home Free Animal Sanctuary will provide boarding, care, and feeding of animals collected by the Police Department’s Animal Control Division. These services will be coordinated through the Police Department, and not directly handled by Home Free

Animal Sanctuary. Members of the public with questions about the new procedures should call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 949-644-3717 and ask to speak to an Animal Control Officer. Anyone wishing to support the new sheltering services can visit the Our Animal Shelter web page to review a list of approved animal care items and cleaning supplies. These items can be dropped off at the front desk of the Police Department during business hours (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily). The Police Department is located at 870 Santa Barbara Drive, Newport Beach, 92660. Charitable monetary donations may also be made to the Pick-a-Pet Foundation. The foundation works to make pets more adoptable through grooming, medical treatment, and training. Checks should be made out to the City of Newport Beach, noting “Pick-a-Pet Foundation” in the memo line, and may be dropped off at the Police Department’s front desk or mailed to the Police Department, ATTN: Animal Control. (These monies

are eligible for charitable donation tax reductions; a tax receipt will be provided to each donor.) Anyone over the age of 18 is also welcome to apply to volunteer at the shelter. Applicants must have valid health insurance, maintain a current tetanus vaccination, and be fingerprinted by the Police Department before assisting at the shelter. Environmental Nature Center Hosts Artisan Marketplace The Environmental Nature Center (ENC) will host the second annual Artisan Marketplace on December 6, 2015 from 10am to 3pm. Fifty local artisans will display a variety of handmade, eco-friendly, sustainable gifts just in time for the Holidays. Featured products include a variety of handmade jewelry, edibles, ceramics, candles, soaps, art, clothing, and more. “Last year’s Artisan Marketplace was so well received that we decided to make it an annual ENC tradition,” said ENC Executive Director Bo Glover. “It’s more than a place to shop. It is an opportunity to educate our community about the benefits of shopping locally and sustainably.” Purchasing from locally owned businesses has a positive impact on the economy and supports local communities. The Artisan Marketplace gives guests the opportunity to shop for unique gifts while spending time in nature instead of at a shopping mall. Attendees will walk the ENC trails and purchase artistic gifts that show they care about the environment. Artisan Marketplace vendors are hand picked by ENC staff for their ecofriendly products. Non-native plants, seashells, coral, and animal parts are not allowed. Shoppers will find minimal plastic, and are encouraged to bring

re-usable shopping bags to carry their purchases. A $2 entry fee goes directly to the Environmental Nature Center’s environmental education programs. The ENC is located at 1601 E. 16th Street, Newport Beach, CA 92663. For more information, visit encenter.org/ visit-us/artisan-marketplace. About the ENC Founded in 1972, the ENC is a fascinating combination of 15 California native plant communities, wildlife habitat, walking trails, and sustainably designed, LEED Platinum certified learning center. For over 40 years, the ENC has been shaped and caressed into a 5-acre landscape for learning, a sanctuary from life’s pressures and a place of preservation and instruction. Serving over 21,000 students and thousands of visitors annually, the ENC is recognized as a leader in science and social science education providing opportunities for increasing our community’s knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the natural world. The ENC recently purchased property to develop a nature play area, and construct our community’s first nature based preschool. With a mission of providing quality education through hands-on experience with

nature, the ENC inspires all generations to protect the natural world by serving as our community’s foremost authority on ecological responsibility, sustainable practices and environmental education. The ENC is a non-profit 501(c)-3

public benefit corporation. For more information call 949-645-8489, or visit www.ENCenter.org. The ENC is located at 1601 16th St. in Newport Beach.

CELEBRATE THE SEASON WITH THE KING OF INSTRUMENTS FOR PACIFIC SYMPHONY’S ANNUAL “HOLIDAY ORGAN SPECTACULAR” Christmas melodies majestically reverberate from the mighty pipes of the William J. Gillespie Concert Organ during Pacific Symphony’s “Holiday Organ Spectacular,” an annual tradition that envelops the audience with joyous sounds and musical splendor. The magnificent color, beauty and versatility of the organ is showcased in partnership with solo instruments to bring out the best of treasured holiday classics. Returning organist Todd Wilson, “a fabulous virtuoso with fleet feet, a prodigious memory and technique to burn” (The Plain Dealer), is curator of the E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall and regarded around the world as one of the finest concert organists today. Pacific Symphony principal musicians Benjamin Smolen, flute; Jessica Pearlman Fields, oboe; Timothy Landauer, cello; Barry Perkins, trumpet and Mindy Ball, harp, as well as percussionist Kenneth McGrath join Wilson in an exciting mix of popular Christmas carols. Taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 7:30 p.m., this concert launches the 2015-16 Pedals and Pipes series, which spotlights the $3.1 million concert organ created by C.B. Fisk— the visual focal point of the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The Laguna Flutes add to the Page 4

festivities with a performance in the lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets at $15-$75, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org. “The William J. Gillespie Concert Organ is an instrument of almost limitless possibilities,” says Wilson. “The grandeur, warmth and beauty of its tonal palette enable this great organ to convey the many colors and emotions of the holiday season with maximum effect.” An acoustic delight to be had by one and all, this performance features beloved Christmas songs that warm the heart and create the feeling of good cheer. “We have a wonderfully varied musical menu for this year’s concert,” says Wilson. “I really look forward to all of it, but some pieces I’m particularly excited about are the new and colorful arrangements we’ll have for beloved holiday favorites such as ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas,’ ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Little Drummer Boy.’ We have a beautiful piece for harp and organ called ‘Fantasia on the Coventry Carol’ that is a first for both Mindy Ball and me. I’ll be playing the famous Toccata by Charles-Marie Widor—and playing that piece on the Fisk organ is more exciting than any roller-coaster ride!” “You have fabulous players in

The Newport News

Pacific Symphony, and it’s always a real pleasure to collaborate with them. With flute, oboe, cello, trumpet and harp in this year’s line-up, we’ll have a wide array of instrumental solos and combinations. Every player is a superb solo performer, and the various instruments sound almost like ‘living extensions’ of the color possibilities of the Gillespie organ.” Setting “the gold standard by which others are measured” (The American Organist), Wilson is internationally acclaimed for his virtuosity. He is head of the organ department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and director of music and worship at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland; he

also serves as house organist for the newly restored Aeolian organ at the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron, Ohio. Wilson has performed in major cities throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. His latest CDs on the JAV label feature a live recital of American music from the National Cathedral in Washington, and “Live from Severance Hall,” a concert of music for trumpet and organ. The Pedals and Pipes series is generously sponsored by Valerie and Barry Hon, as well as Avenue of the Arts Wyndham Hotel and PBS SoCaL.

According to reliable sources such as the U.S. census bureau the area served by the Newport News is one of Orange County’s highest income groups. These affluent nearby homeowners in Newport Beach, Balboa, Corona del Mar, and Newport Coast have more money to spend and the time to spend it. Make sure that these readers are aware of your company and what you do by keeping a regular, affordable advertising message in the newspaper that all of them read every week 2.Why pay more to reach your most preferred customers? Smart business owners and marketing experts agree that the most expensive advertising is advertising that doesn’t work. Savvy business managers are wise to be concerned about high volume publications that don’t deliver a strong local audience that would bring you customers. Major daily newspapers like the Times and the Register reach nearly a million readers, but do you really need to pay their high prices to reach your customers in Newport News? While some glossy monthly magazines are stylish, their costly rates may not be realistic compared to choosing a highly effective newspaper like the Newport News which is received by your most likely preferred customers of high income homeowners with advertising that costs you far less money. The Newport News is attractive, effective and affordable. 3. Why do Newport News Readers read the Newport News? Since 1907 The Newport News has been the favorite weekly publication of Newport Beach. If you don’t know her already, get to know Kelly Bennett, the top society columnist in Orange County. She also has the top rated radio show and television program “Breakfast with Gary and Kelly. Readers eagerly await her weekly column in the Newport News which features major charity events where the beautiful people

of Orange County gather for fashionable luncheons and dinners which regularly raise millions of dollars for worthy causes. Permit us to say that placing your advertising where it is seen by people who can afford to give away millions is the best advertising purchase you will ever make. Read Kelly Bennett’s “Society Scene “column every week in the Newport News and see why. 6. Free Online Advertising Newport News Version each week. While many people still prefer to have a hard copy of the Newport News to hold in their hand, our online version is equally popular for those who want to access our entire newspaper on their smartphone, tablet or computer. Your regular ad will appear in our online edition at no extra charge. Just click on the Thenewportnews.com. 7. How Fast Will this Home be sold? We’d like to share some actual quotes from local Newport News area realtors: BUYERS CAME IN WAVING the ad that appeared in the Newport News.” Two factors determine how fast a house will sell: 1.Choose a skilled real estate professional 2. Fifth Annual Senior Care Hero Awards Nets $125,000 for SeniorServ Senior Programs Photos by: Noelle Hipke SeniorServ - the county’s largest nonprofit senior nutrition and support services provider - held their fifth annual Senior Care Hero Awards at The Grove of Anaheim. An enthusiastic crowd of close to 700 celebrated and recognized both finalists and honorees in several senior care awards categories while raising critical funds for SeniorServ’s Meals on Wheels and other support programs for older adults. Event net proceeds are estimated at $125,000. After a lively cocktail hour and art auction, SeniorServ board chairman Earle Zucht welcomed attendees to “Act 1” of the evening’s festivities which included the introduction of event chair Pat Bridges, Regional VP Care Integration at St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare. Pat recognized the event’s Council of Advisors and Academy of Leaders describing the difficult task of selecting senior care honorees as “Mission Impossible.” KTLA 5’s Henry DiCarlo then took the stage as event emcee and announced the People’s Choice honorees including Volunteer Hero - Rose Marie Caulfield; Family Hero - Gina Moran; Veteran Hero - Frank Cook and Senior Hero - Jackie Goldberg (aka, The Pink Lady). ENVIRONMENTAL NATURE CENTER PRESENTS WINTER CAMPS: OUTDOOR LEARNING AND PLAY FOR CAMPERS IN K-6TH GRADES The Environmental Nature Center (ENC) will present Winter Camp in two sessions, on December 21, 22 & 23 and 28, 29 & 30. Full day camp is from 9am to 3pm, and half day camp is from 9AM to 1PM. Campers will participate in educational, age appropriate, hands-on activities each day while broadening their knowledge and appreciation for the natural world. More information about Winter Camp can be found at encenter.org “During Nature Camp, ENC Naturalists use children’s attractions and curiosities about the natural world to spur learning through exploration and play.” said ENC Education Director Lori Whalen. “The experience fosters social and emotional growth, cognitive gains, and encourages physical development. Environmental education also helps children hone skills in curiosity and questioning that support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills.” During the first week campers will

engage in scientific explorations, invent their own nature games, and explore, imagine, and make up their own fun. During the second week campers will learn about the diversity of wildlife in various climates of the world, search for and find creepy crawlers, and build their own bug city. Campers will also engineer their own bugs and lizards from Legos, and get the chance to program some of them to move. About the ENC Founded in 1972, the ENC is a fascinating combination of 15 California native plant communities, wildlife habitat, walking trails, and sustainably designed, LEED Platinum certified learning center. Notice to Potential Bidders If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a Trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a Trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same Lender may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the property. Notice to Property Owner The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary, Trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code.
