Gary Bergeson, Al Jarreau, Kelly Bennett, Bart McHenry. Photo by Smooth Jazz Family On Saturday, November 23, 2013, Saddleback College’s radio station KSBR 88.5FM and the City of Mission Viejo presented seven-time Grammy Award winner Al Jarreau at the McKinney Theatre located on the campus of Saddleback College. Jarreau appeared on KSBR Radio’s “Breakfast with Gary and Kelly” radio on TV taping to a crowd of around 350 attendees. The three-hour broadcast was live on the radio. The television broadcast will air on the City of Mission Viejo’s MVTV Channel 30 Tuesday through Sunday evenings at 8:30 p.m. and also on Saddleback College’s SCTV Channel 39 Friday and Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. throughout the Cox Communication cable system in South Orange County. During the one-hour interview, Jarreau told stories of his career, how he started in San Francisco teaming up with Jazz great George Duke, making his first album, and his love of music. He especially talked to the students in the crowd encouraging them to learn all they can and experience other forms Page 2
of music and inspiring them to live their dreams. Jarreau also wowed the crowd singing five songs and giving the audience a peek into his music-making “scat” abilities with Larry Williams accompanying him on piano. Williams has been with Jarreau for more than 30 years, and has played with George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Patti Austin, Paul McCartney, Michael Buble, Michael Jackson and Sheila E. After the show, Jarreau stayed 90 minutes signing autographs and posing for photos with guests who waited in line; talking to each person and making that connection with those who love his music. There was also KSBR merchandise for sale outside the McKinney Theatre along with a big screen TV for the live broadcast as well as coffee and muffins provided by “It’s a Grind” in Mission Viejo. Around 40 volunteers and staff made the event possible. Other guests appearing on Breakfast with Gary and Kelly that morning were Bart McHenry, Dean of Fine Arts and Media Technology for Saddleback College and Mission

Chocolate and cranberries - a holiday gift of taste! Black and White Holiday Bark with Cranberries Yield: 25 pieces Recipe from America’s Test Kitchen Holiday Cookies 2010 Special Issue Use good quality bittersweet and white chocolate in bar form. Chocolate chips contain less cocoa butter so that they can better hold their shape when baked in cookies, but this makes them harder to melt. Using bar chocolate will give you a much better texture in this bark. Scorched chocolate is a very sad thing, so keep a close eye on your chocolate as you melt it. You can also melt your chocolate in a double boiler instead of the microwave if you want. Ingredients 1 pound bittersweet chocolate, chopped, divided 1 cup Rice Krispies cereal 3/4 cup dried cranberries or dried cherries, chopped, divided 1 pound white chocolate, chopped Instructions Line an 8-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil, allowing at least a two-inch overhang on all sides. Measure out and set aside 2 tablespoons of bittersweet chocolate for the topping. Microwave the remaining bittersweet chocolate
in a bowl at 50% power for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides and stir. Continue to microwave the chocolate for 15 second intervals at 50% power, stirring between intervals, until just small lumps remain. Stir until smooth and pour into the prepared pan. Smooth the top and chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 30 minutes. Combine the Rice Krispies and 1/2 cup of dried cranberries and mix them together. Melt the white chocolate using the same method as the bittersweet chocolate, keeping in mind that white chocolate melts at a lower temperature than bittersweet chocolate. Gently fold the cereal mixture into the white chocolate until evenly incorporated. Spread over the bittersweet chocolate and smooth the top. Sprinkle with the remaining dried cranberries and return to the refrigerator to chill for another 30 minutes. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of bittersweet chocolate and pour into a small plastic bag. Cut a
small hole in the corner and drizzle the chocolate over the bark. Allow the bark to warm up slightly, about 10 minutes, and pull it out of the pan using the aluminum foil overhang and transfer to a cutting board. Carefully peel away the foil and cut bark into small squares with a sharp chef’s knife. The bark will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

‘Tis the season to entertain: A simple guide to artisanal wine and cheese pairings Planning a get together with close friends or family this holiday season and fretting over what to serve? Regardless of theme or guest list, a delicious artisanal cheese and wine platter is a great way to start off any gathering. By following these simple guidelines, creating the perfect pairings can be one of the simplest things on your to-do list this holiday season. Step 1: Vary your cheese choices Lindsey Jessup, cheese and wine pairing expert and wine ambassador for Bridlewood Estate Winery, suggests that balancing a variety of flavors is a good place to start. The key is creating a diverse platter that offers something for all your guests to enjoy. “Contrast your tastes and textures by offering a number of different cheeses,” suggests Jessup. “By balancing the different flavors, you’ll have a dynamic and complete
holiday cheese plate that can be the perfect complement to your wine selections.” Jessup recommends a selection of four cheeses to build a crowd-pleasing and wine-friendly cheese plate: an aged, hardrind cheese, a soft-ripened cheese, a blue cheese and a mild cow’s milk cheese. Step 2: Select your wine Along with a variety of cheeses, consider the range of wine options to offer your guests. A good rule of thumb is to have at least two red options and two white options to match the versatility of your cheese selections. If you are offering artisanal cheeses, balance them with handcrafted wines. “Bridlewood’s critically acclaimed Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Blend 175 and Cabernet Sauvignon display unique, adventurous, yet approachable flavors that make a perfect accompaniment for artisanal cheeses during the holidays and beyond,” adds Jessup. Step 3: Begin pairing Personal preference plays a large role in all wine pairings. In general, Jessup recommends some general guidelines when pairing artisanal cheeses and wine: * Mild and hard cheeses match a wider range of wines than soft, ripe or mature cheeses. * White wine may pair more easily with
a wider range of cheeses. * More tannic red wines pair better with harder cheeses. Step 4: Set up the display Now that you have the cheese and the wine, don’t forget the presentation. First and foremost, it is important to serve your cheese at room temperature to maximize flavor profiles. Be sure to take the cheeses out of the refrigerator at least one to two hours before guests arrive. When considering layout, place cheeses from mild to strongest and accent them with colorful fresh and dried fruit, artisanal breads, and nuts. When displaying the cheese, pre-cut some while
leaving larger pieces for a backdrop and have a dedicated knife for each option. Once your cheese is laid out, place your selected wine pairing next to each cheese option along with enough stemware for guests. Keep the white wine on ice so that it’s appropriately chilled throughout the evening. Whether you are planning a large party or a more intimate gathering, creating a simple and elegant artisanal cheese and wine platter is a delicious way to create a memorable and enjoyable experience this holiday season. What do most people want for the holidays? Technology and home entertainment gifts are highly sought after, meaning gift-givers have plenty of opportunities to get an impressive present. If you think you need to spend a lot to get a great gift, think again. There are many great options for less than $100. As more and more large flatscreens and smart TVs take over the family television room, the list of products that improve the watching or listening experience just keeps expanding. Brighten the holidays for your loved ones with these fun gift ideas that cost less than $100. Speaker systems Large flatscreens are not known for having great speakers. A new generation of speakers and surround sound systems is now available to raise the quality of the sound to match the quality of the picture. One of the best value-priced items is the Vizeo 40-inch Home Theater Sound Bar, which retails for $99. Not only is it a great value, but
when it is connected it to a digital TV, it fills the room with up to 95 decibels of clear and exciting sound. It’s available at Best Buy and other electronics stores, as well as online. Antennas For those who want to cut the cable or satellite TV cord and save up to $1,200 per year, the powerful Winegard FlatWave Amped antenna pulls in the clearest VHF and UHF broadcast channels from up to 50 miles away. It’s razor-thin and is the most advanced dual band antenna on the market today. It weighs just over two ounces and because broadcast signals are not compressed like those from cable, satellite and telephone companies,- the picture quality is closer to true HDTV. It retails for $89.99 and is available from Winegard, Costco or Amazon and requires no monthly fees. Universal remotes For those with a collection of remote controls to operate their home entertainment system, a universal remote is the perfect gift.
Consider the Logitech Harmony Ultimate Hub, a Bluetooth device that turns users’ iPhone and Android smartphones or tablets into the ultimate universal remote control. The Hub also allows the control of applications in popular game consoles such as PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360. Anyone can download the free Harmony App to their smartphone to use with the Hub, which is a separate device that interfaces with more than 225,000 home theater and entertainment devices. The free app can be downloaded from the relevant app stores online, and the Hub is available at electronics stores or directly from Logitech.com. The Logitech Harmony Ultimate Hub is available for $99.99. There are many fun products on the market today for those who want to get the most from their home entertainment systems. Keep these gift ideas in mind for your friends and family and you’re sure to be one of the best presents under the tree.

Tips to spruce up your home for the holidays Holidays are when most people open their homes for friends and family. Sharing the season’s greetings is always the priority but these gatherings are also an opportunity to show off improvements made during the year. This is one of the reasons that autumn is a popular time for home improvements. Fifty-two percent of homeowners plan to make home improvements this fall, according to the leading real estate website Zillow. It is also a great time of year for deals as retailers unload inventory to make room for new styles. Creating a warm and inviting atmosphere includes much more than just poinsettias and Santa Claus centerpieces. There are a number of affordable steps homeowners can take to add a real “wow factor” to their holiday entertaining. Kitchen updates The kitchen is commonly one of the busiest rooms during the holidays. Since guests often gather there, it makes sense to make the space the focus for a few improvements before the holidays. Simple and inexpensive updates, such as adding new knobs and handles to cabinets or installing a new backsplash, will make a big difference. Stylish new light fixtures can also give your kitchen a quick facelift that will impress your guests. Install hardwood floors The warmth and beauty of hardwood
floors can transform the look and feel of your home to create a space that will stun your guests. And unlike carpet, hardwood floors do not stain or wear as easily from inevitable spills and foot traffic that the holidays bring.-Moreover, carpet traps dust, pollen and other particles that can cause allergies and respiratory issues. Visually unique flooring options such as Lumber Liquidators’ Bellawood Bamboo bring together both the aesthetic and practical advantages of hardwood flooring. This

flooring carries a 100-year transferable warranty that assures these benefits will be sustained for a lifetime of holiday gatherings. De-clutter It’s important to create inviting open space for guests to enjoy. De-cluttering bookshelves and removing miscellaneous furniture can help make a room feel larger and more open, and will allow room for festive seasonal decor. Spending time to organize the refrigerator will make space for any holiday dishes a guest brings.
Improve the entry The front entry provides the first impression of a home, so it’s important to create a stylish, cared-for and welcoming look. Homeowners can complete small projects outside, such as updating house numbers, painting the front door and creating holidaythemed arrangements. Simple decor updates just inside the door - such as adding family photos and new rugs - will add a warm and personal feel.

Party-planning tips to make a happy host Every host knows the elements of a great party - fantastic food and beverages, just the right balance of sophistication and fun, and decor that speaks to the season and theme of your soiree. In the right combination, those ingredients ensure guests will have a great time. But what about your good time? Staging a party should be every bit as sweet for you as attending it is for your guests. As your celebration plans rev up, follow these simple steps to ensure your party-prep is both fun and effortless: * Go with what you know. Sure, sampling new dishes can be fun and you can introduce a few unfamiliar dishes to your party menu. But for sure-fire success, stick with what guests know and love - and do the familiar with flare. Familiar, traditional and simple are just fine, as long as what you’re serving - hors d’oeuvres to dessert - is palate-pleasing. * Plan one show-stopping experience for your party guests. Host a wine tasting event by pairing your favorite varietals with a selection of premium dark chocolates, like Lindt EXCELLENCE dark chocolate diamonds. Individually wrapped and available in four distinct flavors, these chocolates lend themselves to an array of wine pairings. Try serving Lindt EXCELLENCE A Touch of Sea
Salt with a Pinot Noir or EXCELLENCE Intense Orange with a Chardonnay. * Make prep manageable. If you’re rushing to do everything the night before or the day of the party, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed - and make mistakes. Look for ways to minimize day-of prep, such as making and freezing a batch of appetizers the week before, or tackling house-cleaning bit by bit over the few days leading up to the event. The day before, take care of set-up by placing decorations and arranging furniture to facilitate conversation and a clear path to the food table. * End the evening on a high note. Give your guests something to savor and enjoy on the way home by offer-
ing each a parting favor. Individually wrapped treats such as the premium Lindt EXCELLENCE chocolate diamonds say “sophistication” and “’til we meet again” far better than a hasty hug at the door. Consider placing the individually wrapped chocolate in small mesh bags tied with colored silk ribbons. Place the bags on a decorative tray by the door at the end of your night to ensure that every guest leaves your party with a memorable token.Celebrations should be fun for everyone - the hosts as well as the guests. You can maximize your party enjoyment and create a memorable event for guests by keeping things simple, planning ahead and serving familiar favorites with flare and fun.

Beckstrands 10th Anniversary Gala Raises $1.81 Million Celebrity Lisa Rinna with longtime supporters Holly and Dave Wilson Photos by Carla Rhea and Tony Lattimore Celebrating their 10th anniversary, Beckstrand Cancer Associations legendary Diamond and Pearl Ball, held at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel for an intimate crowd of 300 had only the nonprofits most cherished supporters in attendance. The gala realized an amazing $1.81 million in net proceeds, which will enable the Beckstrand Cancer Association to continue to help cancer patients and their families through trying circumstances during their cancer journeys. Co-hosting the elegant black-tie affair once again was Eva La Rue, the Associations National Spokesperson and well known television actress, with Beckstrands President/CEO Lil Spitzer. Beckstrand program recipient and recent cancer survivor Bryan Fazio touched hearts with his story of facing numerous recurrences of Hodgkins Lymphoma in his early 20s and, in the face of a daunting prognosis time and time again, stayed on active duty in the Navy for two years and earned his MBA degree. When he told guests that following his three-year cancer battle, he was cancer-free, the entire room rose to their feet in applause. Lauding Beckstrand, who paid his familys mortgage for seven months when they were about to lose their home, Fazio Dave Olsen and Daniela Ruah with Eva La Rue and Joe Cappuccio said, “During my fight, Beckstrand was there and when I graduated, they celebrated my victory with me”. Celebrated longtime Beckstrand supporters Mike and Jan Salta who are known for their generous and caring hearts, have supported the mission and programs of Beckstrand for the past decade, playing a pivotal role in the development and long-term execution of patient-focused assistance throughout the local cancer community. The Saltas $500,000 gala gift, announced later in the evening, showed their generous spirit. Newport Beach-based Lugano Diamonds, Presenting Sponsor three years running, provided the piece de resistance in the live auction a stunning 10.02-carat Ceylon sapphire. The rare, unmounted gem offered the winner the opportunity to design the setting with $5,000 towards that end, thanks to Lugano President and Design Director Moti Ferder, a Beckstrand board member. Ferder sweetened the pot by adding two oval matching five-carat sapphires, and it sold to longtime supporters Holly and Dave Wilson for $125,000. In a remarkable gesture, an anonymous donor offered to match the final bid, bringing the total amount raised by Lugano Diamonds Ceylon Sapphire to $250,000. Spitzer recognized several individuals who have been involved with the ball for the entire 10 years the first honoree, Dr. Simon Tchekmedyian; the original gala chair, Kirsten Prosser; the auctioneer, Mark Schenfeld, and gala Bold and the Beautiful’s Don Presenting Sponsor Lugano committee member Stuart Winston, who introduced Beckstrand to its first presenting sponsor, Bulgari, and later to Lugano Diamonds. Diamont and Cindy Ambuehl Diamond’s Moti and Idit Ferder Five couples were recognized for their amazing support, without whom we would not be where we are today, Spitzer said. They included Dave & Holly Wilson, AJ and Joni D’Amato, John & Patty Collins (Patty is Beckstrands board chairman), Keith and Mara Murray, and Blaine and Renetta Caya. Each lady was given a custom-designed gift from Lugano Diamonds a white gold initial necklace with a .30cts diamond encrusted butterfly, Beckstrands logo. Luganos Ferder then presented a custom-designed 18k gold necklace with a 2.5-inch high initial J encrusted with 1.50 cts. of diamonds called the Legacy Piece to Jan Salta. Celebrities attending the anniversary gala included Lisa Rinna, the Bold and the Beautifuls Don Diamont and his wife Cindy, and NCIS: Los Angeles Daniela Ruah. Morisettes private performance featured songs from her critically acclaimed Jagged Little Pill album, as well as other hits such as Uninvited and Thank U. She toasted all the caregivers in the crowd, saying, I’ve done it too, so here’s to all of us. The Diamond & Pearl Ball represents a celebration of cancer survivorship, with proceeds from the ball used by Beckstrand Cancer Association to provide cancer patients with advocacy and direct financial assistance for critical survival needs, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food, gas, transportation, Beckstrand’s President/CEO Lil Spitzer and 10th Anniversary Gala medical insurance, copayments, and prescriptions. HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS GIVE FANS POWER TO DECIDE RULES OF FIVE GAMES IN GREATER LA AREA FROM FEB. 15-17 World’s most famous team to play doubleheaders at Honda Center and STAPLES Center – plus President’s Day matinee in Ontario The world famous Harlem Globetrotters will take fan interaction to a new level when the 2014 “Fans Rule” World Tour comes to the Southland for games at Honda Center in Anaheim (Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.), STAPLES Center in Los Angeles (Sunday, Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.) and Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario (President’s Day – Monday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.). Online voting is now open at harlemglobetrotters.com/rule, where all fans can choose which new gamechanging rules they want to see in their hometown. The Globetrotters were the first organization in sports and entertainment to let fans vote on rules when the team introduced the concept last year. Since the fan response was so overwhelming, the team is doing it again – but with a major twist. The 2014 online ballot includes three never-before-seen revolutionary rules: • Hot Hand Jersey – Both teams will have a “Hot Hand Jersey” they can pass among each other. The player who is wearing this jersey will receive double points on made baskets. • Make or Miss – The quarter begins with only two players on the court for each team. When a team scores, a teammate may enter the game. When they miss, the player missing the shot must leave the court, leaving his or her teammates shorthanded. • Trick Shot Challenge – Via three challenge flags per team, each coach can challenge the other team to make a trick shot. If the team makes the trick shot, they earn five points. If they miss, the other team receives five points. With a roster showcasing stars such as Special K Daley, Big Easy Lofton, Flight Time Lang, Hi-Lite Bruton and Dizzy Grant – plus female stars TNT Maddox, T-Time Brawner and Sweet J Ekworomadu* – the Globetrotters’ one-of-a-kind family show features mesmerizing ball handling, an assortment of trick shots, highflying dunks and precise timing – all Page 14
with an array of comedy guaranteed to entertain the young and the young at heart. After virtually every game, Globetrotter stars remain on the court for autographs and photographs with fans.# Tickets are now available at harlemglobetrotters.com and each respective arena box office. Information on group and scout tickets can also be found at harlemglobetrotters. com. The Globetrotters tipped off the North American leg of their world tour with the first-ever events at the new Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, on Sept. 20 and 21. The tour
The San Clemente News
recommences on Dec. 26, 2013, with the Globetrotters playing more than 290 games in over 250 cities in 47 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico through April 2014. Sponsored by Wonderful Pistachios, Howard Johnson Hotels and Greyhound Lines, the Original Harlem Globetrotters are celebrating their 88th consecutive year, continuing a world famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry, and oneof-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages. Throughout their history, the Globetrotters have showcased their iconic talents in 122 countries and territories
on six continents, often breaking down cultural and societal barriers while providing fans with their firstever basketball experience. Proud inductees of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the Globetrotters have entertained hundreds of millions of fans—among them popes, kings, queens, and presidents—over more than eight thrilling decades. Buying technology for seniors this holiday season Finding the perfect gift for mom and dad or grandma and grandpa often seems impossible. If they’re like a lot of seniors, they’re fairly well settled and don’t have long wish lists. Plus, it seems that many of the hottest gift ideas are tech devices, certainly not something that would be of interest, right? Think again. Seniors aren’t as wary of technology as some might think. In April 2012, the Pew Internet and American Life Project reported that more than half of the 65 and over population were online and using email. The number is growing as seniors see the advantages of technology, from convenience to safety benefits. And that’s good news for kids and grandkids in desperate need of great gift ideas. Help the seniors in your life manage more from the comfort of their home. A new laptop or tablet can be a valuable tool for communicating with loved ones, managing finances and even taking care of some shopping. More than the gift itself, they’ll appreciate the time you take to show them the ropes with a video chat program or online bill pay services, not to mention getting them connected with
family and friends on social media. If you’re in the market for a portable computer, there are numerous options. An all-purpose laptop typically offers a larger screen, which can be helpful if eyesight is an issue. At 4.5 to 8 pounds, they are ideal for the home, but can be carried to the corner coffee shop without much hassle. The Acer Aspire offers a 15.6-inch screen, great for viewing videos and images, and weighs less than 6 pounds. Netbooks are smaller and more lightweight, good for some simple Web browsing and email, but often not robust enough to handle streaming video or multiple applications running simultaneously. Asus offers some high quality options, which are generally more budget-friendly than a laptop. Tablets have taken the market by storm, and new devices are being designed with seniors in mind. The Claris Companion blends in with a home’s decor, featuring a bamboo bezel, a stand and speakers built into the front. The 10-inch screen has big buttons, large text and a simple user interface, and it accommodates alerts set up by the senior or family to
keep abreast of medication or other critical tasks. Provide seniors - and yourself - with the gift of a cellphone and peace of mind. Even if they don’t text or surf the Internet, your loved ones can benefit from having a convenient way to call for help in an emergency. Consumer Cellular carries senior-friendly phones, like the Doro PhoneEasy 618, with large and backlit buttons and hearing aid compatibility. No contract phone service with flexible plans means paying only as much as they use the phone. Of course, some seniors may be ready for smartphone features at their fingertips, including powerful cameras for capturing memories of the grandchildren. As with other products, consider a device with a larger screen size to avoid eye strain. Also, keep the interface simple. Apple products tend to be fairly intuitive, so an iPhone may be a contender. The LG Escape from Consumer Cellular is another option, particularly if you want to give a phone loaded with advanced features. If shopping for avid readers, consider giving an e-reader and load some classics to get them started.
The Amazon Kindle starts with a 6-inch screen, but larger sizes (up to 9.7 inches) are featured on certain models. Seniors can increase fonts to a comfortable size for reading, and they don’t need to spend a bundle on books as many libraries now lend e-books. Keeping connected with parents and grandparents may be the biggest gift of all this holiday season, so don’t shy away from the gifts that can make that happen. Seniors may surprise you with their tech savvy.
Tips to Top off Every Holiday Moment There’s no better way to celebrate the holiday season than by inviting friends and family into your home for good food and good fun. This year, surprise your special guests with festive treats and fun activities to keep them happy all season long. Try these ideas at your next holiday gathering: Host a holiday game night. From board games to puzzles, family and friends can reconnect over the holidays during a casual game or a game tournament. Take a break between rounds to whip up some delicious, simple-to-prepare treats like homemade ice cream sandwiches. Lay out a selection of cookies, ice cream and ice cream toppings and encourage participants to get creative. Vanilla ice cream with Smucker’s® Microwavable Hot Caramel Topping sandwiched between two oatmeal cookies makes everyone a winner. Create indoor adventures. When the weather gets cold think inside the box to create fun adventures. With a little imagination an old blanket quickly transforms into a magic carpet, couch cushions and bed sheets make forts, and a simple flash light becomes a projector for shadow puppets in a dark playroom. When it’s time for a break,
reward your adventurers with s’mores or other sweet treats. Enjoy morning coffee club. Avoid the coffee house rush and serve up something special at your own house. Spend the early hours relaxing and catching up with friends and family over a delicious Caramel Cream Coffee. Show off your barista skills by mixing fresh strong brewed coffee, Smucker’s Sundae Syrup™ Caramel Flavored Syrup and whipped cream. Start a new dessert tradition and try this grilled pound cake recipe. It’s simple to prepare and will give you and your guests even more to talk about. Grilled Pound Cake with Warm Blueberry Sauce and Ricotta Cream Makes: 6 servings 1 1/4 cups whole milk ricotta cheese 1/2 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, divided into 3 teaspoons 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel, divided 1 jar (10 ounces) Smucker’s Blueberry Topping 1 prepared pound cake (11.5 ounces), cut into 6 (1 1/4-inch) thick slices
2 tablespoons butter, softened 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted STIR ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon lemon peel in small bowl until blended. COMBINE blueberry topping and remaining 2 teaspoons lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon lemon peel in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH 45 seconds or until warm. SPREAD butter lightly on both sides of pound cake slices. Cut cake slices on a diagonal to make 12 triangles. Heat large
nonstick skillet over medium heat. Grill cake triangles in skillet until cake is lightly browned on both sides, about 2 minutes, turning halfway through cooking time. ARRANGE 2 cake triangles on each serving plate. Top each serving with about 3 tablespoons ricotta mixture and 2 tablespoons blueberry sauce. Garnish with toasted almonds. TIP: To Toast Nuts: Place nuts in dry nonstick skillet. Cook over medium heat, shaking pan until nuts are lightly browned. To avoid over browning remove from pan immediately.
