Bank of America Awards $260,000 to 21 Local Nonprofits on Giving Tuesday to Help Close the Basic Needs Gap in Orange County Bank of America announced, on what is known as “Giving Tuesday,” $260,000 in grants to be distributed to 21 nonprofits working to increase access to basic necessities and enable families in Orange County to thrive. In Orange County, there are more than 335,000 people are living in foodinsecure households, struggling to find access to nutritionally, adequate food, while others struggle to address other basic needs. Funding will help individuals and families in Orange County gain greater economic mobility through increased access to food, shelter, benefits and other fundamental needs that will enable them to move toward long-term stability. The funding is an example of how Bank of America is driving sustainable growth that supports shared success in the community. “Basic needs assistance is a critical stepping stone on the pathway to financial stability,” said Allen Staff, Orange County market president, Bank of America. “That is why we support nonprofits in Orange County that are helping people move out of poverty toward better financial futures.” Among the nonprofits receiving grants is HomeAid Orange County which will use the funding to support

its housing and community service initiatives geared towards housing those experiencing homelessness. “Ending homelessness is HomeAid Orange County’s mission and we strive to accomplish this through the development of much-needed housing,” said Anita Rodriguez, HomeAid’s Director of Development. “It is only because of partners like Bank of America who have supported our efforts not only financially through this generous grant but also through staff volunteer efforts that HomeAid has been able to transform more than 55,000 lives through its housing program since 1989. What Gen Z knows and should learn about saving for college Is it ever too early to start saving for college? Is it ever too late? Finance experts say the answer to both questions is a resounding “no,” and an annual Gen Z & Money survey released by TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation (NYSE: AMTD) indicates that members of Generation Z are hearing the message loud and clear. Many members of Gen Z (people born during the 1990s) are either already facing, or are on the verge of facing, their own college funding challenges. Head Research, on behalf of TD Ameritrade, Inc., surveyed 1,000 people, ages 14 to 23, regarding saving for college. Survey results and methodology are available online at www.amtd.com/ newsroom/investorIndex.cfm. “Many parents of Gen Z kids are still paying back loans for their own college education,” says Carrie Braxdale, managing director of investor services for TD Ameritrade, Inc. (TD Ameritrade), a broker dealer subsidiary of TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation. “Aware of their parents’ struggles, this young generation is concerned about the cost of college. Forty-six percent of those surveyed say their biggest post-graduation worry is having a large student loan balance, and 36 percent worry about being able to afford college at all.” College costs continue to rise more than 1,120 percent in the past 35 years, according to a Bloomberg report. The average student loan debt owed was $26,600 in 2011, according to the Institute for College Access & Success. Still, Gen Z has no doubt the investment is worth the money. More than half (54 percent) say obtaining a higher education is critical to achieving success, and 64 percent agree college is worth the cost because it will help them secure employment, according to the TD Ameritrade survey. “Parents who work with their children early to develop a financial plan and clearly set financial expectations can help better prepare them for financial success later in life,” Braxdale says. “And even if they start saving when their child is already in high school, they should remember that every dollar they save toward college now is a dollar less they will owe in student loans.” Fortunately, a variety of college savings plans can help better prepare

parents and their kids for the future, including: * A 529 College Savings Plan Usually administered through or sponsored by a state government, 529s offer several tax advantages. Earnings in the account are not subject to federal tax and withdrawals for qualified higher education expenses are generally free of state and federal taxes. Contributions are generally not tax deductible, but parents may be able to exclude 529 money from their taxable estate, making them a possible way to reduce one’s estate taxes while helping a child pay for college. * Before investing in a 529 Plan, carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses involved. This and other important information regarding the plan is included in the Program Disclosure Statement and Participation Agreement and each prospectus on the underlying investments, which may be obtained by contacting the issuer. Please read each prospectus, the Program Disclosure Statement, and Participation Agreement carefully prior to investing. Investment return and principal value of an investment will fluctuate so that an investor’s units, when withdrawn, may be worth more or less than their original cost. You should be aware that other states may sponsor their own qualified tuition plans and may offer a state tax deduction or other benefits that are limited to residents who invest in that plan. There are no minimum contribution requirements, and you can put up to $2,000 per child, per year into the account. Contributions are generally not tax deductible. * Custodial accounts - A great way to build assets for children or loved

ones, custodial accounts allow you to manage a minor’s assets and investments. The account will be in the child’s name and Social Security number, but it cannot be accessed until he or she reaches legal age. You act as guardian until the child is old enough and can assume control of the assets. Braxdale offers some tips for creating a college investing strategy: * Start early. Even a small amount set aside each month allows your money to start working for you long before the first tuition bill arrives. * Set goals, including the total you want to have saved and how much you will save each year to reach that goal. TD Ameritrade’s College Planner can help with goal setting by helping project how much you’ll need to save to cover expected tuition costs. * Choose an investing vehicle. Decide which type of college investing plan will best help you pursue your goal. * Track your progress. Check regularly on your college investing accounts to see if you’re on track toward meeting your goals. * Consult a qualified tax advisor. Every individual’s tax situation is different, so it is important to consider talking with a qualified tax advisor regarding the particular investment vehicle you choose. Governor Brown Takes Action to Protect Oceans

Taking action to combat climate change and help protect California’s oceans, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. called on President Barack Obama to use his authority to permanently prohibit new offshore oil and gas leasing in federal waters off the coast of California, signed an agreement with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell to help expand offshore renewable energy development and joined global leaders to launch the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification. “Climate change degrades our oceans and coastline,” said Governor Brown at a meeting of the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification in Coronado. “Today, California is taking additional steps to reduce ocean acidity, boost renewable energy and prevent further coastal oil and gas drilling.” Stopping Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling In a letter sent to President Obama, Governor Brown called on the administration to use its authority under Section 12(a) of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to permanently withdraw federal waters off the coast of California from new offshore oil and gas leasing and guarantee that future oil and gas drilling in these waters is prohibited. “Clearly, large new oil and gas reserves would be inconsistent with our overriding imperative to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and combat the devastating impacts of climate change,” Governor Brown wrote. “Now is the time to make permanent the protection of our ocean waters and beaches from new oil and gas drilling.” Boosting Offshore Renewable Energy Governor Brown also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell to renew and expand a joint commitment to develop more renewable power, including offshore clean energy. Under the agreement, California and the U.S. Department of the Interior will

coordinate the environmental review of potential marine renewable energy projects, such as offshore wind and wave energy, continue to identify offshore areas for potential projects, and update permitting guidance for these projects. Today’s MOU builds on the creation of a California Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force launched earlier this year. Addressing Ocean Acidification Additionally, Governor Brown joined Washington State Governor Jay Inslee, Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Chile in the United States Patricio Utreras and Consul General of France in San Francisco Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens today to launch a new partnership of jurisdictions around the world committed to protecting coastal communities and economies from the threat of rising ocean acidity, called the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification. The ocean absorbs a third of the carbon dioxide that humans release into the atmosphere, which raises the water’s acidity and harms sea creatures that are vital food sources for marine life. The rising levels of poisonous ocean acidity, along with warming waters, also damage coral reefs, dissolve oyster shells and harm marine fisheries around the world. The oceans have become 30 percent more acidic since scientists began taking measurements, and the average acidity of the surface ocean is projected to double over pre-industrial levels by the end of this century. California is combatting ocean acidification through a number of landmark policies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases. This announcement builds on the ongoing work of the California Ocean Protection Council, which has also joined with other states to help address ocean acidification. Earlier this year, Governor Brown signed legislation to support this work and

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. develop projects, in coordination with other states, that reduce carbon dioxide levels through marine habitat conservation and restoration. C a l i f o r n i a ’s L e a d e r s h i p on Climate Change California is playing a world-leading role in setting aggressive climate goals, broadening collaboration among subnational leaders and taking action to reduce climate pollutants. In recent weeks, Governor Brown issued a joint release with the governors of Oregon and Washington and the premier of British Columbia reaffirming their commitment to climate action at the close of COP22. The Governor also announced 29 new members to the Under2 Coalition, an international climate pact formed by California and Baden-Württemberg, Germany among cities, states and countries to limit the increase in global average temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius, the level of potentially catastrophic consequences. A total of 165 jurisdictions have now joined the coalition representing more than a billion people and $25.7 trillion in combined GDP – more than one-third of the global economy. In September, California took bold action to advance its climate goals, establishing the most ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in North America and the nation’s toughest restrictions on destructive super pollutants. The Governor also signed legislation that directs cap-andtrade funds to greenhouse gas reducing programs which benefit disadvantaged communities, support clean transportation and protect natural ecosystems. This action builds on landmark legislation the Governor signed in October 2015 to generate half of the state’s electricity from renewable

sources by 2030 and double the rate of energy efficiency savings in California buildings. Governor Brown has also committed to reducing today’s petroleum use in cars and trucks by up to 50 percent within the next 15 years; make heating fuels cleaner; and manage farm and rangelands, forests and wetlands so they can store carbon. Over the past year and a half, the Governor has traveled to the United Nations headquarters in New York, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, France, the Vatican in Italy and the Climate Summit of the Americas in Toronto, Canada to call on other leaders to join California in the fight against climate change. Governor Brown also joined an unprecedented alliance of heads of state, city and state leaders – convened by the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund – to urge countries and companies around the globe to put a price on carbon. These efforts to broaden collaboration among subnational leaders build on a number of other international climate change agreements with leaders from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Mexico, China, North America, Japan, Israel, Peru and Chile and Governor Brown’s efforts to gather hundreds of world-renowned researchers and scientists around a groundbreaking call to action – called the consensus statement – which translates key scientific climate findings from disparate fields into one unified document. 1 clove garlic, grated 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 2 cups chopped frozen spinach, thawed and drained 1 can artichoke hearts, roughly chopped 2 cups crumbled feta cheese 1/2 cup minced onion 1 pinch chili flakes 1 pinch minced scallions Heat oven to 350 F and place mushroom caps in single layer on baking sheet lined with foil. Mince reserved mushroom stems and heat olive oil in large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add garlic and mushroom stems to pan along with salt and pepper. Saute 2-3 minutes, or until mushrooms are softened. Add spinach and artichoke hearts to pan and cook until heated through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and place mixture in large mixing bowl. Stir in feta cheese and onion. Adjust seasoning, to taste. Using small cookie scoop, add 2 tablespoons filling to each mushroom cap. Bake mushrooms 20-25 minutes, or until mushroom caps are softened. Sprinkle with chili flakes and minced scallions to serve.

Butternut Squash Soup Shooters Butternut squash soup turns shooter in this recipe featuring organic squash and curry powder. Ingredients: 2 teaspoons Simply Organic Curry Powder Simply Organic Crushed Red Pepper 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup) 4 celery stalks, chopped (about 1 cup) 3 garlic cloves, crushed and chopped 1 3-pound butternut squash, peeled and cubed (about 5 cups)

1 teaspoon salt 5 cups vegetable broth (or a water and broth combo, if desired) 1 cup canned coconut milk fresh cilantro, for garnish cooked chickpeas, for garnish Directions: In a large stock pot, over medium heat, melt the butter or heat the oil. Add the onion and celery. Cook for four to five minutes, until the onions are translucent and the vegetables “sweat.” Stirring frequently, add the garlic and cook for one minute, until fragrant. Add the butternut squash, salt and curry powder. Stir. Add the vegetable broth and bring to a boil. Then reduce to a simmer and allow to cook for 25 to 30 minutes, until the butternut cubes are soft when pierced with a fork. Into the soup, stir coconut milk, then remove the soup from the heat. Using an immersion blender, blend the soup until smooth and creamy. Serve in shot glasses with a garnish of cilantro, chickpeas and red pepper flakes. Angelitos de Oro Raises Over $325,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

In partnership with South Coast Plaza, the week-long shopping fundraiser offers cardholders 20 percent saves at stores not normally known for giving “sales” or discounts. This year, there were over 100 participating in the shopping extravaganza – from boutiques to name brand retailers; many shoppers were elated to see some of their favorites on the list. The start of the shopping week, was the ultimate Preview Day Champagne reception, which was chaired by Natalie Pickup and Georgina Jacobson. It served as a kickoff to the week of shopping and was held in South Coast Plaza’s Jewel Court. It was attended by more than 200 cardholders; the event included a light lunch catered by Quattro Caffé and attendees sipped on exquisite champagne while eyeing the fashions that were on display. Debra Gunn Downing, Executive Director of Marketing at South Coast Plaza, welcomed attendees and introduced Melissa Beck, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Angelitos de Oro President Sherry Bilbeisi. A highlight of the afternoon was a fashion presentation led by Downing Debra Gunn Downing (South Coast Plaza Executive Director, that featured Preview Day stores including Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Coach, Escada, Intermix, Oscar de la Renta, REDValentino and St. John. Marketing) with Mary Allyn Dexter and Marilyn Wooten Each boutique showcased seasonal looks and invited attendees to use their Angelitos Cards following the luncheon to receive 20 percent savings one day early. This year, the group raised more than $325,000. “Angelitos de Oro has made significant contributions to our agency over the last 55 years and 2016 is no exception,” says Melissa Beck, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “We are incredibly grateful for the time and dedication that went into making this Angelitos Card Week an enormous success. Our agency provides more than 3,000 children annually with mentoring relationships, and support through fundraisers like this one allows us to continue expanding our program to change the lives of even more local youth.” To date, Angelitos de Oro has raised nearly $6,000,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, primarily through the sale of the Angelitos Shopping Card. Crispy Bacon Twists with Gouda and Apricot Preserves Cook time: 45 minutes Serves: 15 Nonstick spray flour, for dusting 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry dough, thawed 1 egg, beaten 1 cup (12 ounces) apricot preserves 2 cups (about 7 ounces) Gouda cheese, shredded 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary leaves 2 pounds (about 25-30 slices) Smithfield Hometown Original Bacon Heat oven to 375 F. Line two rimmed baking pans with foil, set baking racks in pans and lightly spray racks with nonstick spray. On lightly floured surface, roll out one puff pastry sheet to roughly 8-by-12 inches. Brush top with egg and thinly spread 1/2 cup preserves over dough. Sprinkle evenly with 1 cup shredded cheese and 1 tablespoon rosemary, lightly pressing cheese mixture into dough. Fold short end of dough over to enclose cheese mixture and lightly roll to seal. Cut into 15 1/2-inch strips. Repeat with remaining puff pastry and ingredients. Lay one slice bacon diagonally. Grab one strip of prepared dough by ends and place one end of dough strip horizontally at top end of bacon and roll bacon with dough downward, stretching dough strip while rolling. Place spiral-wrapped bacon twist on prepared rack and repeat. Bake twists 35-45 minutes, or until pastry is browned and bacon crisp, rotating pans as needed for even cooking. Let cool 5 minutes and gently use spatula to remove twists from racks. Serve warm or at room temperature. Tip: For a different flavor, try smoked or aged Gouda or fresh thyme instead of rosemary.

Crispy Bacon Twists with Gouda and Apricot Preserves

Caramelized Bourbon Bacon

Cook time: 30 minutes Serves: 12 2 packages (16 ounces each) Smithfield Thick Cut Bacon 4 tablespoons honey 1/2 cup bourbon 4 tablespoons maple syrup Heat oven to 375 F. Line two baking pans with parchment paper. Remove bacon from package and space evenly on pans without overlapping slices. Place pans in oven and bake 15 minutes. Rotate pans halfway through baking time. Meanwhile, combine honey, bourbon and syrup. Remove bacon from oven. Carefully drain grease from pans. Brush bacon with bourbon mixture. Return to oven and bake 3-5 minutes. Let cool slightly and serve. Caramelized Bourbon Bacon

Bacon Cheddar Biscuits

Cook time: 30 minutes Serves: 12 4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese 1/4 cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup cooked Smithfield Hometown Original Bacon, diced 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus 1 tablespoon and extra for rolling, divided 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter 3/4 cup milk

Heat oven to 450 F. In small bowl, toss together cheese, green onions and bacon with 1 tablespoon flour. Set aside. In separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Use pastry cutter or two forks to cut in butter. Add milk and stir just enough to bring ingredients together. Gently fold in cheese mixture. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead about 1 minute. Pat or roll out dough to 1/2- or 3/4-inch thickness. Cut into rounds with 2 1/2-inch round biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Sea Salt Caramel Bacon

Cook time: 40 minutes Serves: 12 2 packages (12 ounces each) Smithfield Thick Cut Bacon 4 tablespoons caramel topping 1 teaspoon flaked sea salt Heat oven to 375 F. Line two baking pans with nonstick foil. Remove bacon from package and space evenly on pans without overlapping slices. Place pans in oven and bake 10 minutes. Rotate pans and continue baking until crisp, about 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Using tongs, place bacon slices on clean parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Let cool slightly. Heat caramel in microwave 10 seconds. Drizzle bacon with caramel. Sprinkle with sea salt. Return to oven and bake 2 minutes. Let sit 5 minutes. Using tongs, remove to cooling rack. Cool 5 minutes before serving.
