My husband and I had the most wonderful experience working with Amy. In the past 2 years we have worked with three realtors, none of which were as professional or insightful as Amy. She clearly understood our housing market and understood how to price our home so that not only would we make money, but it would sell quickly as we were in escrow on another home prior to listing our home. Within two days of listing our home- we had a full price offer. We have met and worked with several realtors and have often felt like one of many- we are not provided updates, status, ect. and it is darn near impossible to reach them. Amy never once made us feel like a number, but we always felt like her priority. We never once had to follow up with her to find out how a showing went, status on escrow, ect. she kept us informed every step of the way which was greatly appreciated and credits her professionalism. Amy is also without a doubt one of the warmest individuals we have ever had the privilege of working with. I will refer her to all our friends and family and I can confidently say we will never work with another realtor. Thank you, Amy!!

Dana Point celebrates the annual Gray Whale migration with a two-weekend whale festival And a Parade The Dana Point Festival of Whales began over 40 years ago as an annual community event in the coastal town of Dana Point, located in picturesque Orange County, California. Residents and visitors celebrate the migration of Gray Whales and other marine wildlife with ocean-themed activities and presentations emphasizing education and environmental responsibility. A variety of events are scheduled for in and around the Dana Point Harbor area and the premiere event is, of course, whale watching. Gray whales can be seen off Dana Point from December through May. The whales are often are seen within just a mile or two of the shoreline, where they are believed to use Dana Point’s headlands as a landmark on their journey. Gray whales make one of the longest migrations of any mammal. The whales travel 10,000 to 12,000 miles from the cold waters of the Chukchi and Bering Seas to the warm lagoons of Baja, California. There the gray whales mate and have their calves.

Festival of Whales Parade March 7 This event is weather permitting The Festival of Whales Parade begins promptly at 10 AM with a route along Pacific Coast Highway beginning at Selva Road and ending at Golden Lantern in Dana Point. We are pleased to announce our Grand Marshal Wyland and Community Grand Marshal Jay “Sparky” Longley. FREE shuttle service to and from Harbor parking lots will be available beginning one hour (9 AM) from the parade start time. Arrive early, enjoy breakfast harbor side, board the free shuttle and then spend the day visiting all the great events located throughout the Harbor. Parade entrants are encouraged to embrace the Festival’s theme of Magical Migration when designing parade floats and costumes. For inquiries about giant balloon sponsorships and other parade questions, please contact Sherry Murphy, Recreation Manager at the City of Dana Point (949) 248-3533 or smurphy@ danapoint.org.

Tips for new pet parents Whether you’re acquiring a new puppy or kitten for your household or adopting an adult pet from a shelter or rescue organization, the following tips will help you get off on the right foot with your newest family member. * What’s up, doc? Just as you require regular visits to your doctor and dentist to make sure you stay healthy, so does your new pet. A veterinary visit should be a oncea-year event, minimum, and more frequent check-ups may be needed, depending on your pet’s age and health status. Regular visits are likely to include a thorough exam, weigh-in, immunizations and parasite checks (a heartworm test and fecal exam). Blood tests and dental cleanings are also routine procedures. * Healthy eating. Your new pet may be eyeing your plate with interest, but don’t give in. Pets shouldn’t eat like people. Cats are carnivores; they need plenty of protein in their diets roughly twice the percentage that you do - and they need it in the form of meat, poultry or fish. And while your dog, like you, is an omnivore, that doesn’t mean he should share your meals. A food formulated especially for dogs is much better and treats should make up no more than 10 percent of a dog’s caloric intake. * Parasite prevention. You’ve probably heard of pests like

heartworms, intestinal parasites, fleas and ticks but understanding how and when to prevent them is a different matter. Dogs and cats can become infected with heartworms, although the resulting disease differs somewhat between the two species. Heartworm disease can be deadly, or it can reduce the quality of life of both dogs and cats. Mosquitoes spread heartworms and dogs and cats need to be protected year-round, thanks to a mosquito’s ability to survive in a variety of environments. A bonus is that many heartworm preventives also protect pets against other internal parasites. For more information on how to protect your new pet against heartworms and other parasites, talk to your veterinarian and visit the American Heartworm society website at heartwormsociety.org. * Bathing. Most of us wouldn’t dream of letting a day go by without a shower or bath. But daily bathing is unnecessary for pets and can dry out their skin and hair. Most dogs are fine with a bath every three months, unless they get extra dirty or have silky hair. Cats usually keep themselves clean without any help although brushing long-haired cats on a regular basis is advised to keep their fur tangle-free and help prevent hairballs. * Making a connection. Dogs and

cats relate to their owners in different ways. As a pack animal, dogs expect you to lead their pack and give them rules to follow. Dogs make faces - in fact, it’s estimated that they have 100 different facial expressions, thanks to their mobile ears. Cats attach to their people as social partners and use affectionate behaviors, such as purring, kneading and rubbing against you to show their affection. They’re also quite vocally expressive and can produce more than 100 different sounds. * Sleep habits. While cats have a reputation for dozing, both cats and

dogs spend more than half their time in slumber. Like babies, puppies and kittens sleep more than adults, although their sleep patterns can be erratic. Keep in mind that excessive sleeping can be a sign of boredom. Most pets will be glad to forego a nap for playtime or a walk. Bringing a pet into your home is one of the greatest joys in life, but it means new responsibilities. Understanding your pet’s behavior, as well as the do’s and don’ts of pet health care, will help make your bond with your pet a lasting one.

Stay Fresh Throughout Your Day When walking into a meeting, after lunch, before a presentation, or making a new acquaintance, the last thing you want to worry about is not looking your best. In a society based on a go-go-go lifestyle, quick mirror checks can give you that extra boost of confidence before important moments in life. Here are some tips to help you look your best throughout the day. Mid-day Mirror Check For many people, breaking for lunch often means running to a nearby restaurant for a quick bite before returning to the office. Take a moment to freshen-up prior to heading back to work, because you never know when you’ll need to be at your very best. * Touch-up that makeup. Often in the course of the morning, makeup can rub off or smear. Do a check in the mirror to reapply concealer or mascara. Using a pre- and postmakeup primer will also help keep your makeup from smearing. * Post-lunch check. Before you reapply any lip product, freshen up your mouth. On-the-go products such as the Colgate(r) Wisp(r) mini-brushes are perfect for a quick brushing that will keep your mouth clean and fresh, with no rinsing required. Plus they are small enough to pack in a purse or keep in your desk drawer. Check out the full line at www.ColgateWisp.com. * Apply fragrance. Perfume, cologne and body spray will often fade over the course of the morning. Take an opportunity to re-apply in the afternoon. Remember to be mindful of those with whom you share office space. Opt for light scents and don’t over-apply. * Style your ‘do. Combing or

brushing your locks can help re-set your hairstyle. Products such as hairspray and dry shampoo can give your style additional body and boost. * Drink your H20. The benefits of drinking water show in your mood and in your skin. Staying hydrated will help prevent you from running low on energy and will keep your skin looking fresh. Make sure you have a water bottle at your desk and drink up! Before the Big Pitch When preparing for an important meeting, use mirror time to run through your talking points while prepping your look. * Straighten that tie. Make sure to check your attire. It doesn’t hurt to have a backup suit or outfit in the office in the event of a coffee collision. Having another option will keep you stress-free in those moments following a spill.

* Stash those products. Keep a supply of travel-sized personal care products in a drawer at the office. Store a comb, deodorant with antiperspirant, cologne, contact lens solution or eye drops, a lint roller and pocket mirror. These items are great to have on hand for last-minute meetings or to freshen up after a midday walk or trip to the gym. * Keep those pearly whites fresh. A clean mouth is important for making a good impression. Post-coffee or following lunch, consider using a Colgate(r) Wisp(r) for a convenient brush to refresh your mouth. These tips will help you feel confident and focus on what’s important, whether you’re presenting during a meeting or heading to a date straight from the office.

Fresh for the season: Top budget-friendly wardrobe trends

As the weather outside evolves to a fresh season, wardrobes are evolving too. Whether you’re shopping with your kids or you want a few new pieces for you and your spouse, incorporating some of the season’s top trends into your look is an easy way to stay stylish. The good news: this season is full of trends that are not only comfortable, but affordable too. Here are six trends for this season that will keep you looking great without breaking the bank: Innovative fabrics Being fashionable doesn’t mean

being uncomfortable. That’s where modern innovative fabrics take center stage. Many designers are now using fabrics that breath, stretch or wick perspiration. For example, dENiZEN from the Levi’s brand jeans, feature essential stretch, a denim that has a four-way stretch of up to 40 percent. These trendy jeans not only flatter in all the right places, they offer all-day comfort for any type of adventure. Colorful hats Beanies, fedoras, baseball caps, oh my! When it comes to fashion meeting function, there’s no better option than a great hat. Having a few in your collection means you can mix and match depending on your mood. Remember, accessories can be a good way to experiment with color, so a hat in rusty orange or vibrant teal might be the perfect way to integrate unique hues into your wardrobe. Classic patterns Checkers, houndstooth and pinstripes are classic patterns that never go out of style. Plaid is also -on-trend this season, popping up on runways around the world. Luckily, these patterns are available relatively cheap at many stores. Alternatively, hit vintage boutiques for affordable options that feature patterns that stand the test of time.

Slimming features From tanks that tuck and jeans that smooth, designs that slim are hot. Pants are a great way to incorporate this trend into your look. The innovative slimming features of dENiZEN from the Levi’s brand jeans create a fashion-forward look that complements any body shape. Available exclusively at Target, get a few in some of the season’s most popular styles, like the Essential Stretch Modern Skinny and Essential Stretch Modern Boot-cut. Lovely layers Layering is a fashionable way to stay warm when temperatures dip. Stay on trend by mixing textures and prints for a one-of-a-kind look. The trick to layering is to start with light fabrics and then build thickness with each layer. For example, start with a cotton tank or T-shirt, layer with a light cardigan or sweater, and finish with a thicker jean jacket or military-style blazer. Chunky knits From oversized sweaters to wool scarves, chunky knits are perfect to snuggle into on cool days. Cableknit sweaters are a great example, providing a preppy yet comfy look for both men and women. Keep in mind jewel tones are some of the hottest

colors; select a chunky knit in emerald green, royal purple or ruby red and you’ll have a ravishing, versatile addition to your wardrobe. These affordable trends will have you looking great no matter which way your personal style leans. From modern fabrics to classic patterns, your wardrobe will stand out this seasons and beyond.

8 Tips for Pet Parents on Suitable Etiquette for Pets 1. Keep barking under control: The pet parent with the barking dog is most likely not the most popular neighbor. Although barking is not always preventable, ensure pets receive proper training so they don’t bark incessantly. Avoid leaving dogs alone for long periods of time, especially outdoors. Making sure pets have enough exercise and plenty of toys to provide mental stimulation will help curb barking. For tips and tricks, consult one of Petco’s Positive Dog Trainers. All Petco dog trainers are certified in AKC Canine Good Citizen and STARR Puppy testing. The AKC STARR Puppy training is designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC Canine Good Citizen certification is a widely-recognized high standard of polite behavior and excellent preparation for therapy dog training. Each dog who completes these courses will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. 2. Don’t let cats wander: Although cats can exhibit very independent behavior, the outdoor cat that is always wandering into their neighbor’s yard, may not be welcomed with open arms. Keep cats from visiting the family next door by providing Page 6

them a cozy space inside the home with enough toys to keep them mentally stimulated throughout the day. Petco’s Playscapes Modular Cat Furniture will ensure cats can satisfy their need for exploration and climbing without wanting to leave the house. 3. Keep the hair and smell at bay: When dining out with pets, ensure dogs are properly groomed to keep shedding to a minimum. A smelly dog shedding its winter coat is never pleasant near food so bathe pets regularly and use a shed control shampoo. When entertaining at home, make sure guests want to return by removing pet hair from furniture and smelling of the animal. Be sure the cat’s litter box is scooped daily and use an odor absorbent litter such as Petco Dual Odor Guard Scoopable Cat Litter. Keep small animal and reptile habitats clean and use potty pads, like Four Paws Wee Wee pads to help cut down on guests stepping in a new puppy’s “accident.” 4. Clean up waste: Walking into the front yard and stepping in a pile of poop from a neighbor’s dog can be upsetting. It may sound simple, but be sure to pick up waste when walking a dog. Products, like the eco-friendly

The San Clemente News

Earth Rated Poop Bags, easily hook to the dog’s leash making it simple to carry along on a walk. 5. Obey the rules: Keep dogs leashed at all times while at parks and in other dog-friendly public places. Excited dogs who are off-leash may run and jump on people or children or hurt themselves by running away from their pet parent. Only take a dog off-leash at a dog park that allows it. Remember to obey all marked rules at the dog park and don’t forget to close the gate behind you so other dogs can’t escape. 6. Positive reinforcement is key: Barking orders is not the way to encourage a pet to behave, especially when it is done in public. Disciplining pets in front of others can make people uncomfortable. Instead, train pets by reinforcing good behavior with loving attention or a treat. Keep a calm tone and never raise your voice, especially when in public. 7. Use table manners: Petco understands that pet parents love their animals, but others may be uncomfortable when certain people take it to the extreme, especially while at a restaurant. Never feed pets from the pet parent’s lap or plate. Not only can certain people food be

dangerous for pets, but this behavior can encourage pets to beg. Always feed pets from their own food bowl away from human consumption. 8. Not everyone loves animals: It may be hard to believe, especially since pets are such a part of family life, but not everyone is an animal lover. Some people may be allergic to dogs or cats and some can even fear animals. To avoid an unpleasant run in, never let pets run up to a stranger. When taking out other types of pets like birds, reptiles or rabbits, keep in mind that others may feel uncomfortable around these animals. On the other hand, these pets may attract more attention since they are not seen in public as often, so keep them safe by always encouraging strangers to ask before petting or handling them.

Bedtime tips to encourage kids to get to sleep

Despite parents’ best efforts, bedtime can be the most stressful time of the day. Many kids fight sleep and resist going to bed, and questions of “but why do I have to go to bed?” are often answered with an unsatisfying, “Because I said so!” To h e l p e l i m i n a t e b e d t i m e frustrations, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) recommends parents take the following steps to positively influence their child’s sleep habits: * Keep a bedtime routine. A consistent routine (10 to 15 minutes long) - brushing teeth, changing into pajamas and reading a book - helps children go from alert and active to a quieter state, giving them the ability to fall asleep on their own. * Focus on timing. Kids who go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time every morning sleep better and have fewer night wakings. Studies also show that kids who go to bed around the same time each day have fewer behavior problems and perform better in school. “Research has shown consistent bedtimes and bedtime routines encourage cognitive development,” says Dr. M. Safwan Badr, president

of the AASM. “Educating children on necessary sleep health and establishing effective bedtime routines will help foster healthier lifestyles as they grow into adolescents and adults - reducing the epidemic of insufficient sleep in America.” * Teach and demonstrate the value of sleep. Getting enough sleep is critical to the health and wellbeing of every child, and sharing the importance of quality sleep will help them understand why. Two interactive apps developed by the AASM give parents new resources to teach their children about the value of sleep using tablet devices. The apps - I See the Animals Sleeping and The Animals Sleep - use interactive storytelling and activities to show animals’ sleep patterns, environment and adaptations. They illustrate how sleep is important for all animals, and people too. Based on two educational children’s picture books, the apps will help kids understand the need for a soothing sleep environment and the importance of developing healthy sleep habits that will last their lifetime. “It’s important that children develop an understanding of why they have to go to sleep because it will help them

grow and play and feel better during the day - and not just because their parents say so,” says Dr. Shalini Paruthi, spokesperson for the AASM. “The best method to teach children about a new topic is to start with something that interests them; in this case, that topic is animals.” The AASM recommends tablet use with children during the daytime for educational interaction. The illustrated books that inspired the apps are both available in hardcover for use as part of a child’s bedtime routine. The kids’ sleep apps are available for download on the iPad,

There were entries in all 192 breeds and varieties eligible for this year’s show. Golden Retrievers have the largest entry with 58, followed closely by Labrador Retrievers with 56, Australian Shepherds 43, French Bulldogs 41, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels 38, Rhodesian Ridgebacks 38, and Rottweilers 33. Norwich Terriers have the largest entry in the Terrier Group with 19. There is only one White Bull Terrier and one Norwegian Lundehund entered. The entries includes two breeds newly recognized by the American Kennel Club that are eligible for Westminster for the first time: Coton de Tulears in the Non-Sporting Group (14) and Wirehaired Vizslas in the Sporting Group (4). US Ambassador to Iraq Featured at World Affairs Council OC Photos by Ann Chatillon The World Affairs Council of Orange County held a special dinner at the Weston South Coast Plaza Hotel in Costa Mesa with featured keynote speaker, former Ambassador to Iraq Paul Bremer who spoke on the subject, “America-Still the Indispensable Nation: Lessons Learned in the Aftermath of Iraq and Afghanistan”. Orange County Chapter Chairman Tom Pappa welcomed approximately 200 attendees to the Event and among the distinguished guests in attendance, recognized were Lewis Johnson, CEO Alelo, Inc., UC-Irvine’s Dr. Peter Navarro, OCBJ’s Jerry Sullivan, Judge Jim Gray, Irvine Mayor Steven Choi, World Affairs Council National Board Members Timor Rafiq and Serge Tomassian, Joanne Sokolski, Orange County office of Protocol, and Dr. and Mrs. Kamal Batniji, who has performed extensive medical humanitarian work worldwide. Dinner was served – folks dined on mixed winter greens with dried cranberries, candied pecans, and crumbled goat cheese with balsamic vinaigrette for starters. Main course served was a delicious braised boneless short-ribs with forked mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, then dessert had a trio of Pistachio Crème Brulee, dark chocolate mousse, and a wild berry shot. Ambassador Bremer started his day with breakfast with five students selected by the World Affairs Council where he answered questions about his job and the world at large. He then spent lunch with a group of 30 young professionals where he addressed some of the tasks included in his job as ambassador. The evening caped his visit in Orange County with his keynote address; he stated the United States remains the only capable leader to defend the values of the Western World. He also answered questions from the crowd, was very charming and received a standing ovation. During three decades as a professional diplomat, Bremer served in numerous capacities including Ambassador to the Netherlands and Ambassador at Large for Counter Terrorism in the Reagan administration. He was appointed Presidential Envoy to Iraq by President George W. Bush in 2003. The Ambassador received the State Department Superior Honor Award, two Presidential Meritorious Service Awards, and the Distinguished Honor Award from the Secretary of State. In 2004, Ambassador Bremer received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his service in Iraq. He also holds a B.A. from Yale University, Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from the University of Paris, and MBA from Harvard University. Spotted in the crowd were Chapman College’s Dr. Jim & Cigden Coyle, Drs. Harry and Asha Sahota (inventor of the angioplasty balloon), incoming World Affairs Council President Mark Chapin Johnson, Dr. Bogie Maglich, R & D Medical’s David Sheraton and his fiancé Veronica Contreras, Bowers Board Member Janis Agopian, Rutan & Tucker’s Ted and Sherry Wallace, and Black Starr & Frost’s Moustafa Imam. Underwriters for the affair were Serge & Mona Tomassian, Bruce & Carol Hallenbeck, David Sheraton, Hal Smith, Rod and Liz Maxson, and Dr. Parmis Khatibi. The World Affairs Council of Orange County is part of the World Affairs Councils of America, the largest non-profit international affairs organization in the United States. Established in 1971, the mission of WAC-OC is to bring the world to Orange County and Orange County to the world by hosting prominent speakers on topics of international importance. Dog Obedience Training - How to Teach Your Dog Basic Obedience Commands By Crystal Ray Obedience training can make a remarkable difference in a dog’s behavior, and every dog can benefit from obedience training. After successful obedience training, a dog that was once out of control becomes alert to the commands of his owner, and a dog with obedience training often calms down considerably. There are dog obedience classes available for professional assistance in dog obedience training, but you can begin obedience training at home. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your dog picks up your commands, and your dog will benefit from obedience training at home before beginning formal obedience training classes. The following information will help you teach your dog basic obedience commands. Most dogs will be able to pick up these obedience commands relatively fast. After your dog learns these basic commands, your dog will be ready to begin other training that will turn your dog into an obedient well-behaved family member that you’ll be proud to take in public. Praising and Reprimanding Your Dog Before beginning home obedience

Page 14

training with your dog, it’s important to know how to properly praise and reprimand your dog. When your dog successfully obeys a command, praise your dog calmly and quietly by gently rubbing his head and saying “good dog.” If you get too excited when your dog obeys a command, your dog will think it’s time to play, and this will only encourage hyperactivity. If your dog is slow to learn obedience commands, don’t lose your patience with your dog. Never hit your dog or raise your voice when he doesn’t properly preform a specific command. This type of behavior won’t help your dog learn the command. It will only instill unnecessary fear in your dog. A dog who is scolded during obedience training will consider obedience training an unfavorable experience. The more upset you become the more nervous you’ll make your dog, and in the end, he won’t learn a thing. Always use the same tone of voice and the same simple phrase when giving commands to your dog. Changing the pitch of your voice or changing the words in a command will only confuse your dog. Consistence and kindness are the keys to successful obedience

The San Clemente News

training. Before Beginning Obedience Training People often make the mistake of trying to teach their dog commands without the use of a leash. A long leash is required to properly teach your dog obedience commands. A leash will allow you to guide the dog, and a leash will help him understand what he’s suppose to do. A pocketful of treats is also quite helpful during obedience training. When your dog successfully executes a command, offer him a tasty treat as a reward as well as verbal praise and a pat on the head. Don’t offer a treat every time your dog obeys a command. Treats are helpful during training, but they shouldn’t be required after your dog understands what you expect of him. Sit Command Teaching a dog to sit is one of the easiest commands a dog will learn, and this command is often the first lesson in obedience training. A dog must first learn to sit on command before he will be able to learn other commands. To teach your dog to sit, push your dog’s hind end to the floor, and gently pull up on his leash while commanding him to sit. Immediately upon sitting, praise your dog and offer him a small treat for his efforts. Before long he’ll know exactly what you want him to do when you tell him to sit. Heel Command Heeling is a command all dogs should learn. Heeling is helpful when going for walks in crowded locations, and walking with a dog who heals is much more pleasant than walking with a dog who pulls and meanders. A heeling dog walks next to the left leg of the owner, and the dog’s nose is slightly in front of the knee. To teach your dog to heel, simply

command your dog to sit next to your left leg. Command your dog to heel while using his name. For instance say, “Frisky, heel,” and begin walking energetically forward. If the dog pulls ahead or lags behind, sharply yank the leash and command him to heel. If your dog doesn’t understand the command, walk briskly in the pattern of a figure eight. He will be forced to heal while walking in this pattern, and if you praise him he’ll eventually learn the command to heel. Eventually you’ll be able to walk your dog with slack in his leash while he heels properly. Stay Command Dogs instinctively want to follow their owners, but teaching a dog to stay really isn’t very difficult. Dogs live for love and praise, and even the most rambunctious dogs can learn to stay. To teach your dog to stay, simply command your dog to sit next to your left leg while you loosely hold his leash. Place your palm downward, and a few inches from his nose. In a firm voice, tell him to stay. Walk several feet away, and if your dog stays where he is told, go back and praise him with a treat and a gentle pat on the head. If your dog follows, take him back to the original position and try it again. Eventually your dog will understand the command, and he’ll look forward to your praise. Come Command A dog must first learn to stay before you begin teaching him to come to you on command. Once the dog is good at staying on command, walk several feet away from your dog with his leash in hand, and tell him to come while facing him and gently tugging on his leash. When the dog comes to you praise him with a tasty treat and a pat on the head. After he becomes good at responding to this command, you’ll be able to remove his leash and increase the distance.

Three tips to extend the life of your smartphone

We sit on our smartphones, toss them into a purse and sometimes, quite accidentally, douse them in the toilet. And that doesn’t include what grimy-fingered kids do to smartphones as they play games. Generally, we are not very nice to the technology that has become central to our lifestyles. “Most smartphones are pretty durable, but they are not tanks,” says Iza Perez, a product marketing manager for Sony Mobile. “Smartphone damage is typically user-inflicted but they can be usercorrected just as easily.” Here are three tips she recommends to reduce wear-andtear on smartphones to extend their life: 1. Water salvage Let’s be honest: 75 percent of us use our smartphone in the restroom, according to marketing firm 11Mark. And software-maker Plaxo found that nearly one in five people drop their phones in the toilet. Hey, it happens. So what do you do if you’re one of those unfortunate souls that wets their phone? (Don’t forget rain storms and swimming pools.) First and most obvious: Dry it immediately

with a soft, absorbent cloth. Second, remove the battery and place the damp phone and battery separately into an uncooked bag of rice to absorb the moisture. Don’t be in a rush to put it back together. And if that doesn’t work, well, you’ll likely need a new phone. Fortunately, many case makers and smartphone makers are introducing water-resistant features to help minimize water damage. The Sony Xperia Z, for example, can stay submerged in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes, which should be plenty of time for a long bathroom break. 2. Keep it clean Smartphones are germ magnets because they are constantly touched with unwashed hands. Did you know that the average smartphone user checks their device 110 times a day? That’s according to a 2013 study by Locket, an app maker, who checked how often its 150,000 users activated their phones by swiping the screen or tapping a home button. To reduce germs from clinging to your phone they can live up to 48 hours, by the way - regularly clean your phone with microfiber cloth and a spritz of sanitizing screen-cleaning solution. Likewise, you can remove dirt and

grime build up in crevices with a microfiber cloth or a cotton swap and a touch of solution. If you have a case, remove it every once and a while to thoroughly clean that as well. 3. Battery preservation Aside from the cool touchscreen, the battery is a smartphone’s lifeblood. There are a few simple things you can do to extend battery life on a daily basis that will help reduce the number of times a recharge is needed. Dimming screen brightness and reducing the number

of alerts you receive - particularly those that vibrate - will save a lot of juice. Closing apps when finished is also a plus, particularly those that use location features. Apps running in the background doing nothing still suck battery life.- Also, check your settings menu for battery saving features. Most phone makers now include software to automatically adjust usage - but not close opened apps. When shopping for a new phone, consider one with advanced battery-saving features.

Paleo Diet Success - Simple Reasons Why Losing Weight with Paleo Diet Works By Troy Powers Ever thought about eating foods that the caveman ate during the Paleolithic Era? There are thousands who asked his or her self that exact same question, and subsequently decided to do it. Most folks never really think about the diet of a caveman very seriously, and assume that they whatever they could find. Quite a few will not try because they do not fully understand how the caveman functioned. Others are turned off simply by the quantity of work they think it could take. Still other folks have realized that the caveman was a healthy individual capable of great physical activity. Now just hold on here a moment! Are those valid reasons? Was any consideration given to the reasons in favor? Was that consideration fair and well balanced? The downsides were covered, but did the positives get a fair shake? Perhaps that should be reconsidered. Perhaps we ought to think about say, 5 reasons why perhaps you should eat the foods of the caveman’s diet as the advantages are tremendous. To start, the caveman had incredible strength and endurance. You have a

valid point when you note that is was essential for the caveman to posse’s great strength to be able survive during his time. This is a good point. Having said that, take into account that, the meals the caveman ate fueled his strength. Moreover, consider that over a typical day the caveman would walk 12 miles; this couldn’t be done unless proper food and nutrition was obtained. Second, the cavemen were built with a strong immune system. That is true because as the caveman was able to survice great dangers without any medical knowledge. As a result of all that, the caveman’s body’s defense mechanism must be strong being a persons defense mechanisms is relevant to the foods consumed. Third, the caveman failed to experience deadly heart disease we view so common today. In addition heart problems are probably the greatest killers in our world today as is also proportional towards the processed food everyone is eating at alarming rate! Fourth, the caveman did not have deadly diseases like colon cancer. Once again this deadly disease is

because of the meals we eat which usually is fast food or processed foods loaded with preservative. Fifth, the caveman was not obese. Now, look at all of those reasons and evaluate them. Those reasons produce a fairly strong case for why you need to continue with the caveman

diet more commonly known as the Paleo diet. Look them over once more and consider each of those factors. Don’t you think that perhaps, just maybe, you really should look into the caveman diet?
