Taxonomy, a term traditionally associated with the biological classification of plants and animals, has a specific but related meaning in web design where it refers to the division of content into ordered groups and/or categories. Keywords are broken down into specific categories based on a hierarchical system.

CANM 618 - Balancing creativity and profitability
User Experience I have always had a great experience whenever I have used about.com website, to find anything from mechanical to spiritual things. I agree that the bread crumb list stops a level or two above the page that you’re actually at, but that’s about the only problem I see. As a user when I reach the homepage, I get scrollable random links to things I can learn or know more about. Also, I get a clear and unobstructed list to select from. The lists are neatly divided into three different sections.
The site seems to be divided intuitively too. For instance, I wanted to get to the candle making section, so I first thought of Home and followed the link of Home & Garden, surely enough once on that page I found a section called Home Crafts which had candle making under it. Alternatively if I had clicked on Hobbies - then too I would have found a link to the candle making process. Hobbies & Games Candle & Soap making Project Galleries Balloon candle project
The only downside to this process is that the breadcrumb trail is not updated with the process that you went through to get here. This is how the breadcrumb trail looks like even if you go through the Hobbies and Games link.
Overall the user experience is a good one. As a user I can always reach the deepest level without any trouble.
