Analysis of web application – http://walletproof.com/
Wallet Proof : your wallet The purpose If there is one thing that most people need, it is some place to easily track their expenses and see how much they really save by the end of each month. Overall this web application aims to do just that ‐ track expenses on a daily basis and set monthly budgets for the user. It is a personal finance web application which can be used free of charge. Additionally the site builders are also displaying money saving deals and discounts recommended by other users which are either online or in the user’s neighborhood.
The audience The target audience here would be
Home users, who don’t want to spend money buying expensive high end software to manage their finances; People who don’t want to invest time in learning a complex software and instead just need a simple application for budgeting purposes; People who want to track their expenses on the go.
The user’s goals Today everyone wants to save money and for that they do get savings accounts or 401K etc. But the real reason why people don’t understand why they can’t save is because they don’t know where they are spending so much of money. Every cent adds up to something. Using such kind of application helps the user to track his / her expenses and then eventually figure out where expense can be reduced.
Information architecture The entire site is actually pretty small and has everything in place and easily accessible. There are two clearly marked sections –
Your wallet ‐ where a user can list information about his/her finances and The community ‐ where the user can view deals posted by other users in his/her neighborhood.
Additionally they do have a help section which has a set of FAQs and an email address to contact them. The main page also has link to a wizard that can help the user set up categories and a flash demonstration of the web site’s main features.
Interactivity
A very quick signup also gives you a small (recommended) option of adding the area code of the user. This allows the application to pull up local deals and sales. A user can also add a deal they found in their area. User can assign categories to various expenses and income.

The application can be accessed from a mobile phone. Allows a user to choose specific dates when deductions will be made to their account (monthly bills). As soon as you enter an expense or income on the left side it gets updated on the right panel called the wallet, without having to reload the whole page again. Clicking on an expense / income category promptly takes you to a bar chart that gives you a visual of your entire month for that category.
Suggested improvements
Adding recurring incomes and expense is a great idea, but both are on per month basis. Some incomes are biweekly and it would be a good idea to add a drop down to select the occurrence of the income or expense.
Design wise the main area for entering income and expense is a little confusing. “This month” of “expenses” is selected, but it is difficult to know where the amount is being entered. The “Income” and “Expenses” could be written in blue and green respectively and also the space below the tabs could change to a lighter shade of the selected tab.
