The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen Receives $20,000 Grant from Humana Richmond, Virginia, September 22, 2014 –– The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen (CACGA) is pleased to announce its new partnership with Humana, one of the nation’s leading health and wellbeing companies, along with the award of a $20,000 grant to be used towards The Center’s art outreach efforts. The grant has been awarded in direct support of The Cultural Art Center’s new Artful Living Program, a new initiative designed to provide arts experiences to older adults in the Greater Richmond Region. Free and subsidized classes and performances in the creative arts will be offered through the program. Participants will be able to choose from activities such as painting and drawing, dancing and music, and journaling and memoir writing, among other disciplines. Activities will be held at The Cultural Arts Center, at Senior Connections’ Friendship Cafes throughout the region, and at Henrico County recreation centers, including areas in the County’s east end where there are fewer resources for the arts. "We are so thrilled to be able to bring this exciting arts program into our aging communities,” said Cultural Arts Center President K Alferio. “Our outreach efforts are a major part of our mission and this new partnership has the ability to enhance so many lives!” Patterned after a successful art program in New York City, Artful Living is expected to achieve similar success. Older adults engaged in New York’s program have experienced fewer doctor visits, less need for medication, and less depression. “This points to our belief that the arts make a measurable difference in people’s live,” stated Alferio. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen is dedicated to being the region’s center for creativity, balancing arts and cultural, education and entertainment for our community. The Center is a private, non-profit organization, managed and maintained by The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen Foundation and Board of Directors. The Cultural Arts Center is supported in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen is also supported in part by the Arts & Cultural Funding Consortium. The Center’s 2014-2015 offerings promise a landmark season that’s not to be missed!
