s we are heading into winter, there are many people out there who winterize their units, and shame on those of you who don’t. But hey, winter means nothing to some because, well, we’re in an RV. So, let’s discuss how to best keep things from freezing inside our RV.
HOW TO AVOID FREEZING PIPES AND HOSES
Most of us have the same common steps we perform inside our rigs to prevent pipes and tanks from freezing, like opening the lower cabinet doors to allow the warm air inside our rig to help prevent our lines from freezing. But what about our water hose on the outside? Many of us will go out and spend anywhere from $100-$130 on a heated water hose. The problem I see with heated water hoses is that although the hose is heated, the hose bib, or faucet, and the hose connection point at your rig are not heated or protected. A little quick tip; one thing you can do is simply fill up your fresh water tank and turn on your water pump rather than use your city water connection. It’s harder for cold air to freeze the large amount of water in your water tank. Plus, your fresh water tank may be located inside your coach which will also help keep the water from freezing. When you use your water tank you can disconnect the water hose, turn it off at the hose bib, and

“one thing you can do is simply fill up your fresh water tank and turn on your water pump rather than use your city water connection.” allow the hose to drain without the risk of freezing. Then when you need to add more water to your tank just connect your water hose and re-fill the tank. Then disconnect the hose and drain it again. This way your water hose never freezes, and you always have a supply of fresh water in your rig. And there’s your Tech Tip! s RV travel continues to boom, many users want to be fully immersed in nature and avoid overcrowded campgrounds and parks. But with limited rooftop space, solar power hasn't always been enough for users to be entirely off-grid. If users can extend solar power generation beyond the roof surface to generate more power, they can escape the masses, operate altogether off-grid, and power all necessary equipment. To address this need, Xponent Power built upon 100 years of combined solar experience to release the first commercially available retractable solar awning for RVs, the Xpanse Solar Awning.
SUNSHINEPOWERED TRAVEL WITH THE XPANSE SOLAR AWNING
"Solar is the preferred source of power for RVs, but let's face it, roof space is limited. You're lucky if you can fit two or three large panels on the typical RV roof," said Xponent Power Founder Rohini Raghunathan. "Our research indicates that RV owners overwhelmingly want to go boondocking more often but are fundamentally limited by access to power. With the Xpanse Solar Awning, we are enabling RV owners to generate substantial power on the go so that they can go off-grid more often."

Deployed at the push of a button, the compact Xpanse Solar Awning provides shade and is available in three different wattage options--800W, 1000W, and 1200W of solar power-- to run onboard appliances. The Xpanse Solar 1200W Awning generates in excess of 6kWh of energy on a sunny day. Depending on energy usage patterns, it can power essential RV appliances such as the refrigerator, lighting, microwave, and more. The awning is made of the same solar cells and materials used in the fabrication of traditional solar panels widely used in standard residential and commercial building rooftop applications. Xpanse can be used as a stand-alone system or along with solar panels already installed on an RV roof to address all power needs. The ease of installation and

RV CAMPING compatibility with most Class C, Class A, Fifth Wheel, and Travel Trailers presents the opportunity for many RV owners to experience the benefits of off-grid travel. Xponent Power has conducted a range of engineering and environmental tests to ensure performance and durability of the awning. For example, comprehensive wind tests of the Xpanse solar awning have been done, both in real-life outdoor conditions on very windy days and with large industrial fans that subjected the awning to 45mph wind speeds. As another example, the company conducted severe vibration tests of the solar panels to ensure durability by vibrating the panels for several hours on a vibration jig in an ISO and ISTA accredited test lab. The awning has built-in intelligence to detect adverse weather conditions and automatically retract itself to safety when needed. "Traditional awnings that consist of a huge continuous piece of fabric experience huge wind uplift even at rather low wind speeds, very much like a sail. In contrast, the Xpanse solar awning has an innovative, patented design that creates small gaps between

the solar panels when slightly retracted. These gaps allow wind to pass through, greatly reducing the wind uplift and making the Awning intrinsically windtolerant. This means the Awning can be kept open and produce power even at relatively high wind speeds," states Raghunathan. "What's especially great about this awning design is that it uses intelligence to detect
wind speeds and to provide the necessary wind relief when needed." Xponent is currently accepting pre-orders for the Xpanse Solar Awning with a fully refundable deposit of $100. System price, including installation, ranges from $5000 for 800W to $7,500 for the 1200W after discounts. Plus,

customers who are eligible for federal investment tax credits (ITC) can further lower their fully installed cost to $4000 (for the 1000W system) to $6000 (for the 1200 W system) through the end of 2023. Supplemental state-level rebates and incentives can also help eligible customers save even more money on the awning. Financing options through Xponent Power will be available closer to the product delivery date in 2022. "Xpanse is just the first step to creating more mobility-focused solar solutions. With this disruptive technology platform, we are transitioning solar from a traditionally static to a dynamic and intelligent system, thereby enabling widespread solar adoption in new markets," concludes Raghunathan. "We envision the adoption of our retractable solar technology platform in several diverse markets such as mobile medical, military, police, and emergency relief power, as well as tiny homes, apartments, and more." Based in California, Xponent Power was founded by solar industry veteran Rohini Raghunathan and experts bringing together deep and multi-disciplinary expertise in the solar and RV industries. The Xponent team is actively talking with automotive and RV manufacturers to provide the Xpanse Solar Awning as a pre-installed option for their new vehicles.

INGREDIENTS: 1 batch sugar cookie dough 1 recipe Royal Icing Gel or liquid food coloring Mini chocolate candies, sprinkles, silver dragées, etc. Pastry bags or zip-top bags with small corner cut out ROYAL ICING: 2 Tbsp meringue powder (available in grocery or craft store baking section) 1/3 cup water 4 cups powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS: 1. Beat meringue powder and water until frothy. Slowly add powdered sugar. Add vanilla and beat until smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes. Slowly add more water if frosting is too thick – go slow because it’s easier to thin it than it is to make it thick again. Separate into several bowls and add food coloring. 2. To decorate: Roll out, cut and bake cookies. Cool. 3. Prepare royal icing. Use a pastry bag or zip top bag with the corner cut out to pipe a border around cookie. Generously pipe icing within the border and use a toothpick to spread or “flood” frosting so it’s fully coated within the border. 4. Let dry and pipe different colors for the door, wheels, lights, windows, wreaths, etc. Accent with chocolate candies and sprinkles. Happy camping! This recipe makes about two dozen cookies. Just double the icing recipe for a larger batch. You can find the camper cookie cutter here. Whether you need a perfect site to pull into on your next RV road trip or a cozy spot where you and your kids can pitch your tent for the weekend, KOA is sure to have the ideal campsite for you. At KOA, we help people get outside because we know it changes them on the inside.

n the Revitalization Period (2008-2019) of today’s Modern Era, wireless communication and advances in social media technology allowed RVers to share their experiences and wisdom. This ability opened the world to RV Online Influencers. Since our first issue in June 2021, RV Camping Magazine has introduced you to some of the most influential RVers on YouTube and other platforms. This month, we had the privilege to interview a retired journalist setting the benchmark since 2012. Mike and Jennifer Wendland of RV Lifestyle turned their retirement into one of the most popular RV websites on the internet. The Detroit News publicized Mike’s achievement as one of America’s most welltraveled reporters during his long career. He covered stories all over the world, winning 18 Emmy Awards and Honors from the Associated Press. He also

Tips for New RV Owners 1. HOW DID YOU START RV LIFESTYLE? The RV Lifestyle blog is a dream come true for us. It started when my wife Jennifer and I bought a Class B campervan-type motorhome in early 2012 after years of dreaming. When we did, I started writing a blog about seeing North America, enjoying our RV, and the interesting stories about the people and places we came across.
My background is in journalism. I have to tell stories. I love meeting people, learning, seeing new things, and witnessing history in person. I didn’t have time to enjoy G-D’s awesome creations during my over four decades of working for major newspapers, TV stations, radio, and magazines. Much of my career consisted of “parachute journalism.” Fly into the location, cover the story, and fly back. I traveled to Africa, Central America, Europe, The Middle East, and Southeast Asia but never had the chance to explore the amazing scenery. When reporting on location, the best I could do was use those gorgeous skylines as a background. I loved DECEMBER 2021

those journalism days. I had a front-row seat to witness history. I interviewed CEOs, government leaders, the Mafia, movie stars, the Pope, Presidents, and the Queen of England. As I approached retirement, I knew I missed a lot of stories about people, places, and things that make the U.S. and Canada such wonderful countries. I saw good news and general interest stories sidelined for sensationalism and controversy. In retirement, and as my own boss, I decided, and Jennifer agreed, to return to those places in North America and live the ¾ time RV lifestyle so that I could tell those stories.

2. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST AND WHY: BLOGGING, PODCASTING, CREATING YOUTUBE VIDEOS, OR WRITING BOOKS? The blog started as a hobby and the fulfillment of that dream to report good general interest stories. Our Facebook group, YouTube Channel, and Podcasts developed out of a change of pace to shake things up. It’s a labor of love I do from the road or our home. We have a podcast and video studio in our bricksand-sticks house. We also bring equipment to set up a studio in our 2021 Leisure Travel Vans Wonder RTB. Podcasts are available on Apple iTunes, Google Play Store, sent by Email, or RSS feed.
3. WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WISH YOU HAD KNOWN WHEN YOU BEGAN RVING? Leave room for serendipity in your travel plans. Serendipity means a “happy accident” or “pleasant surprise.” Something fun, useful, and enjoyable that was discovered by happenstance along the way.

We’ve traveled over 250,000 miles since we started our adventures in March 2012. An editor of mine once told me that “every person has a story to tell.” My journalism career proved that very true. Places have stories too. So we like to wander around, chat up the people, take some photos and videos. Usually, we return with more stories than we can publish on our various platforms. That’s a perfect description of what we find every day in this new wandering life in a motorhome. So, about half to ¾ of the year, we travel North America discovering everyone and everything I missed when I was working for the newspapers or TV stations.

We like to say that RV Lifestyle taught us how to be socially distant (since boondocking is our favorite kind of camping) long before it became the watchword for safety.

RV CAMPING MIKE: The 330 Rule is a principle that conducts your activity or sphere. 3:30 PM gives you 3-5 hours of daylight to decompress and prevent burning out. An example is our six-day trip between Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to Moab, Utah. We would attend a big industry RV show called the RVX in Salt Lake City for a week, so we needed to be well-rested. Using the 330 Rule allowed me to travel, videotape, edit, and be ready for the RV show the following week.
Future Plans and How to Connect With Mike and Jennifer 11. WHAT’S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? We can’t wait to head back up to Alaska for the third time. Even if you reach the Seattle-Tacoma area, it’s another 40 plus hours of driving to reach Anchorage. One way to avoid the long drive (and avoid the Canadian border issues due to COVID-19) is to ship your RV to Alaska by sea and then fly up to meet it when it arrives. It’s very costly to ship your RV to Alaska, but the leading company has slashed its rates in 2021 because of the devastating hit to the Alaskan tourism industry. Alaska is a breathtaking state during every season. Depending on your tastes, there really is no bad time to go. The summer sunlight is long, lasting almost 24 hours at its peak, while the winter months are very dark, with little sunlight. If you visit during the summer, you can enjoy active animals and more vibrant plant DECEMBER 2021

We’ve done Route 66, followed the Lewis and Clark Trail west, and explored the Natchez Trace Trail south. However, one of our favorite RV trips has been driving the United States side of the five Great Lakes. We were so taken with the trip; we knew we had to write an Adventure Guide about it. The Great Lakes have it all. From the big cities of Chicago and Detroit to the most remote and rustic lake shores with charming towns to the most picturesque lighthouses. To continue our tour, we want to take a circular tour of Lake Superior that includes the Canadian side of the lake. We also want to travel the Maritimes in eastern Canada, which comprises New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

1. Christmas in Frankenmuth, Michigan
© Larry Collin
It’s also the home of Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, the largest Christmas Store in the World. The 27-acre store has everything you could think of to make your Christmas festive. So if you forgot to bring some of your garland, ornaments, or tinsel with you to complete your RV decoration, Bronners would have it. The family-owned business has been around since 1945 and is open 361 days out of the year.

Growing up in the Greater Detroit Metropolitan Area, I have to start with the place where I have fond childhood memories. Frankenmuth is Michigan’s Little Bavaria. The whole town participates in the holiday season with gorgeous light displays and events from Thanksgiving to the New Year. Be sure to stop at the Visitor’s Center to pick up your Bavarian Bierpass so that adults can get a taste of all of Frankenmuth’s food and beverages around town.
If your family lives in Michigan, make a reservation at Zehnder’s or the Bavarian Inn for their GermanStyle Family Dinners. These two hotels have large dining rooms where families can come to eat together. If you run out of mashed potatoes or chicken, don’t worry, they’ll bring out a second order as part of the family dinner special. DECEMBER 2021

2. Yuletide in Taos, New Mexico A place on my and my wife’s bucket list is Taos, New Mexico. It’s home to the Taos Pueblo Nation, a Mexican Culture, and an artist community. The town sits in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near the Carson National Forest. Winter sports enthusiasts will find plenty of fun with the ski resorts, snowmobile trails, and other opportunities. Eagle Lake even has an annual ice fishing tournament every year. The Yuletide in Tao’s celebration is over a month-long, allowing all cultures to participate together. The Holiday Market Arts and Crafts Fair brings out the best artisans in the area to sell their food and wares, donating a portion of the proceeds to charity. You won’t want to miss the many light displays, including the annual Yuletide Tree Lighting, Lighting of Ledoux Street, and Bonfires on Bent Street. The Taos Pueblos usually allow spectators to witness their Matachinas (Deer) Dance to honor the winter. Unfortunately, it’s closed to the public for 2021 due to the pandemic, but Marianne and I hope to see it in later years as things calm down. If you plan to attend, out of respect, the Pueblo Nation asks you to keep your recording devices packed away. RVBLOGGER.COM

3. Gatlinburg, Tennessee As a teenager, I’ve been to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, three times. My high school buddies and I even spent our Senior Spring Break there since we were more interested in a fantastic camping trip. Most of it we can talk about in mixed company.

While you’re there, don’t forget to spend some time at one of the top 50 most attended theme parks in the world, Dollywood. From the end of November to January second, you can enjoy the Spirit of the Season during their Smoky Mountain Christmas, enjoying their rides, holiday shows, and taking a trip on the Dollywood Express.

Gatlinburg has been a tourist destination surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountain National Park since the latter half of the 20th century. Many of the campgrounds are open yearround. You’ll find incredible light displays, parades, food events, and a lot more when you spend Winter in Gatlinburg. Don’t forget your skis or snowboards if you plan on hitting the slopes of Ober Gatlinburg too.

4. Woodstock, Vermont For some New England Holiday Magic, set your RV-friendly trip planner GPS to Woodstock, Vermont (for those who don’t know, not that Woodstock), for Wassail Weekend. Everyone looks forward to this weekend each year as the town transforms into a perfect holiday wonderland you have to see to believe. The 19th-century Billings Farm decks the halls with an amazing festive light display. Warm yourself by the fire pit with coffee and hot cider as you toast s’mores. Later, you can watch the Irish Christmas Performance that will dazzle you with stories, songs, and dance set to the classic Irish traditions of the culture. In between all of the festivities, you can catch your favorite holiday movies throughout town. Of course, you can’t leave until you’ve seen the parade, run from Krampusauf, and heard some of the best vocalists perform. One group you may have seen on the popular TV show, “West Wing” (Season 4.11: Holy Night), Yale University’s Whiffenpoofs. The 14-member college a cappella group is world-famous and the oldest college singing group, dating back to 1909. They’ve gone co-ed, but don’t ask them to sing Free Bird. RVBLOGGER.COM

Marianne and I have lived in Florida for years. Contrary to popular belief, we have seen freezing temperatures here in the Greater Tampa Bay Area. Now that Kissimmee and Orlando are open for business, Interstate 4 feels like the entire world is traveling to that 27,400 acres (averaging $182 per parcel) of land Walt bought in the 1960s. Many Floridians found out that Santa likes to sneak off to Miami to decompress before his big night. From early November to just after New Year’s Day, Santa’s Enchanted Forest has over 100 rides, games, shows, and attractions that make the trip to Hialeah (a suburb of Miami) worth it. What, when we find Santa, we’re not going to make a big deal out of it? Of course, we are! The Greater Miami Area is densely populated, but you’ll find some excellent campgrounds near the Everglades National Park and a bit north. Special equipment like strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and electric scooters are available to rent (a good thing because we wouldn’t have made it through). Unfortunately, we couldn’t have Santa take a picture with our four-legged fur babies since pets aren’t allowed, but properly trained and licensed service animals are allowed.

7. Québec, Canada In Québec City, inside the walls of Vieux-Québec (Old Québec), you’ll find the German Christmas Market. From November 25th to December 23rd, you’ll find 90 European-style old-world wood kiosks offering many imported and domestic goods. You’ll find some of the best flavors, wines, finest handcrafted works, and various other products. You’ll also find a children’s playground and other worthwhile things to see and do. Before British General James Wolfe conquered Québec City in 1759, the city was named New France by Samuel de Champlain in 1608. Take a guided tour from Cicérone Tours. A licensed tour guide dressed in period attire will regale you with the stories and history of Christmas in New France. You’ll learn all about the only walled city in North America, enjoy the festive decorations, and refresh yourself with complimentary hot chocolate along the way. Tell your guide you were brought up in the British Colonies or territories if they ask about your accent, but your heart is French. I hope you had a chance to catch the La Parade des jouets (Christmas Parade) on November 13th and 14th. Who wouldn’t want to miss the fun and excitement? 8. Marshall, Texas In 1987, the City of Marshall, Texas, went through the worst economic crisis with a 20% unemployment rate. The local news editor wrote an editorial imagining the city’s municipal square decorated for Christmas. It would rival any city on the map and bring hope to those that need it the most. A few months later, a Marshall citizen living in France had a chance to read the article and responded with a $25,000 check and a note that said, “Have your wish.” Since then, the yearly Christmas decoration festival has grown. It now includes an outdoor ice rink, a vintage train, tiny houses in Santa’s Village, and much more. Marshall currently holds the title of the largest Christmas Display in the United States. While you’re there, you can enjoy the best movies of the season, a parade, a Wassail Walk on Main Street, and an Outdoor Christmas Market, and more. For all of you car fans, Marshall holds a Christmas Car Show too. Yes, it’s a city that’s 153 miles south of Indianapolis if you take I-70 west to US Highway 231 south. In this town that’s about 20 miles north of Kentucky, Christmas is a way of life. 10. North Pole, Alaska If you ask Google, “how many north poles are there,” you’ll find out there are four. 1. TERRESTRIAL NORTH POLE: The “True North Pole” is at the tip of Earth’s rotational axis. 2. NORTH DIP POLE: Our planet’s magnetic field centers north polarizations at this point. It’s always moving, and there have been 183 times where magnetic North was at the South Pole.

3. NORTHERN POLE OF INACCESSIBILITY: Geography scientists found the point in the Arctic where you are actually in the middle of nowhere. This point is equidistant to the closest landmass in any direction. Getting to this geographic point is near impossible, but it does exist. The coordinates are: • 85°, 48 MINUTES NORTH LATITUDE BY • 176°, 9 MINUTES WEST LONGITUDE The fourth North Pole is much easier to find. It’s a suburb of Fairbanks, Alaska. The City of North Pole, Alaska, can get up to 80°F in July. Its name came from a development company in the 1940s trying to sell the property in the area to toy manufacturers. North Pole, Alaska, gets many visitors each year around Christmas. While it takes a particular type of person to brave Alaska winters, the town hires an army of volunteers to respond to the over 400,000 letters to Santa each year. The U.S. Postal Service drives the 15-minutes down the Richardson Highway (longer if the roads aren’t clear) to deliver the mail.

If you’re more of a “Christmas in July” person when it comes to Alaska adventures, use the world’s largest Santa Claus statue (42feet) as your lighthouse to guide your way. According to Guy Fieri’s review on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” the foodies on your trip won’t be disappointed. Chena Lake Recreation Area has 80 campsites, bike trails, and plenty of water activities. So get those poles ready for arctic char, grayling, and rainbow trout.

“Both New York City and San Francisco hold Menorah (actually Chanukiah) Lighting Ceremonies.” WHAT ABOUT HANNUKAH!
Out west, since 1975, Union Square has held a lighting ceremony each year. You’ll also want to head to Ghirardelli Square (very appropriate); there’s plenty of chocolate Hannukah gelt coins, dreidel games, crafts, and fun to be had by all. Remember, it’s hard to play dreidel if you eat all of your gelt. Back East, NYC has two of the world’s largest menorahs that measure 32-feet high and weigh over two tons. You’ll find one in Manhattan and its twin in Brooklyn. If you’re in a competitive spirit, test your dreidel skills at the Major League Dreidel Competition. Finally, don’t miss the gourmet Latke Festival at the Brooklyn Museum. After you taste these fantastic potato pancakes, you’ll fall in love all over again with latkes.

How could I forget my people!? Unfortunately, the two best destinations for Hannukah aren’t RV-friendly (we need to fix this somehow). Both New York City and San Francisco hold Menorah (actually Chanukiah) Lighting Ceremonies.

HOT, STICKY & SWEATY IN YOUR RV? YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE. You have boondocked, guest-docked, or lot-docked on hot, humid nights. And before now, to stay cool, you needed a big, noisy gas generator (that kept you awake all night) to reliably activate your RV’s A/C units. Those days (and nights) are over! Now, you can start up your RV air conditioning easily, consistently and quietly with a SoftStartRV™ soft starter! Typically, a 2200-2500 series gas generator puts out 2.2-2.5 kilowatts of power and runs small and medium-sized appliances like dorm-style refrigerators, coffee makers, and small microwaves. With the SoftStartRV A/C power management system, you can use small gas generators like the Honda 2200i to power an RV’s A/C unit when you directly plug in your travel trailer.
Will SoftStartRV run my RV A/C on low power? Yes. A SoftStartRV high-performance soft starter powers up all RV A/Cs with smaller gensets – meaning less cost and less weight for your RV travels.
Key SoftStartRV advantages: • Start two A/Cs* on one 30-amp hook-up • Start one A/C with a small generator • Start your A/C on a 20-amp house circuit • Start your A/C with an onboard inverter * Requires one SoftStartRV unit per air conditioner.
The SoftStartRV is a smart, effective, lightweight, low-cost solution that keeps you cool and reduces the “clunking” compressor start-up noise. Its energy management technology reduces air conditioner start-up power demands by an amazing 70%. Since your Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) is always an issue, the SoftStartRV measures 6”x3”x3” and only weighs 2 pounds.
The best SoftStartRV features based on customer reviews • Starts RV A/Cs with a small generator (2200 series generators) • “Best In Industry” warranty included in the price • Small and light, barely affecting your CCC • FREE SHIPPING anywhere in the USA & Canada • Complete installation kit with all needed parts to fully integrate the product • Free online installation videos, guides and directions • LIVE tech support, real-time installation, and tech install ticket support • LED status lights: start, run, and fault • Built-In start capacitor • Waterproof case

may see a reduction in your A/C power shedding too.
The SoftStartRV works on any rooftop RV air conditioner. You could have a teardrop camper with a single 11,000 BTU air conditioner, a luxury Class A diesel motorhome with three 15,000 BTU A/C units, or anything in-between. The SoftStartRV power management system makes cooling your coach easy, allowing you to run more appliances.
Typical 13.5 or 15K BTU RV air conditioners can jump to 52 amps at activation. The massive amount of power is like flooring your gas pedal on your motorhome. Doing this to the A/C snaps the compressor awake, kick starts the fan and other A/C components. That’s why you hear “thumps” and feel the trailer “shake” when the unit starts.
The SoftStartRV comes with a RiskFree 90-Day Money-Back Guarantee of Satisfaction. It also comes with a 1-year Manufacturer’s Warranty.
Why RV Air Conditioners Need So Much Power Mike Sokol of RVelectricity.com, a long-time electric specialist in the RV world, compared a typical RV air conditioner start-up to an A/C unit with the SoftStartRV. He proved that the product drastically reduces the
By registering your SoftStartRV product online, the warranty can be extended for an additional year. The second year of warranty protection gives you the same manufacturer’s warranty protection during the first year.
With SoftStartRV, the power management technology gradually increases power, peaking around 24 amps. Then the compressor wakes up gently, the fan activates at its mid-cycle amperage, ultimately reducing power usage up to 65-70%. You

DECORATING YOUR RV FOR
Christmas BY TERRI NIGHSWONGER
C
hristmas is right around the corner and, if you already haven’t, it’s time to get out the Christmas decorations and go to work. Wait! You and I live in an RV so what can we do to make the most of our small space? Read on to get some ideas for decorating your RV for Christmas, or any holiday you might celebrate this time of year.
Tips for Decorating in a Small Space Start with thoroughly cleaning your RV. Put away things that aren’t related to the holiday to make more room for Christmas decorations. Utilize space above the floor such as window treatments to place garland, stockings and even ornaments. Decorating your RV for Christmas doesn’t have to be difficult. Add a bow and some Christmas napkins to your napkin holder, purchase some pretty kitchen towels and hang them on your stove, get some decorative pillows or swap your bedding for something with a holiday theme. The dashboard of your motorhome is a great place for a wreath, train or nativity. Utilize what you already have, add a few more touches and you’ve got a beautifully decorated space.

“Utilize space above the floor such as window treatments to place garland, stockings and even ornaments.” Christmas decorations but, of course, you don’t likely have room for a six foot tree in your RV. There are many ways to have a tree that will fit your space. A small, tabletop tree is a first thought. It can be easily moved when you need space at the table. You can create a tree on your wall with sticks and ornaments. That’s a creative idea but what do you do with presents, particularly if you have children with you on the road. Pencil trees are all the rage now and take up little floor space. You can also cut a tree vertically in half with the flat part against a wall. Depending on the climate you live in, don’t count out an outdoor Christmas tree or a decorated palm tree if feasible. Make a great memory by having your Christmas morning outside. Get a campfire going, open presents that are RVBLOGGER.COM

Windows can be a great way to show off your Christmas spirit! Create a curtain of ornaments or create paper snowflakes. Buy some of those sticky decorations, that come off and on easily (window clings), trim your windows with garland, lights and ornaments, or a handmade wreath.
Don’t forget the lights! Everyone loves to see the outdoor lights. Again, you don’t have to be fancy, just find ways to spread some cheer over your camper with lights. Utilize your awning for lights, set up those outdoor Christmas trees, utilize lanterns and outside luminaries with battery operated candles. These are simple to make with paper

Storage ideas Decorating your RV for the holiday is awesome. The smells and sites make you feel the warmth of past Christmases, even if you are away from family and friends for the holiday. Don’t let the idea of having to store your treasures keep you from fully celebrating the season. For some, it may be easiest to store your holiday decorations in a rental storage unit. Some people switch clothing and gear from season to season, so they already have a place for these items. Of course, this might not be feasible for everyone. As you are decorating and purchasing items, find things that pack relatively flat, won’t break and are lightweight. Lights, ribbon, garland, bows and even inflatable decorations are easy to transport. Natural items such as pinecones and live garland can be found or purchased again next year. Half the fun of decorating is creating memories while making crafts.

Whether you are minimalist and just have a few things to show off your Christmas spirit, or you go all out, the idea is to make the season merry and bright no matter where you live. Find ways to make you and your guests smile when they walk in the door.

urchases and rentals of RVs in the United States have been booming since the early days of the pandemic, especially among first timers, and now, increasingly, among millennials, according to the RV Industry Association. The increased interest in RV travel has kept Winnebago, an industry leader in outdoor recreation, busier than ever. During the past two years, the company has ramped up production, hired more employees and, to the envy of other large corporations, moved quickly and nimbly to cater to increased market demand. Most impressive, though, Winnebago managed to find new and effective ways to connect with experienced and first-time buyers alike by making it easier than ever for them to find their perfect RV match. Last October, Winnebago launched Winnebago Insider, an enhanced digital content hub that provides deeper insight into the latest Winnebago product innovations and brand news, as well as improved shopper tools to simplify the purchasing experience. The site consists of three main areas: • Featured content that is updated regularly with the latest “breaking news.” This could include information about soon-to-be released
