2015-2016 Season Brochure

Page 1

Dear fellow music lover, I am so excited about the 2015–16 season! For starters, our soloists are truly exceptional and will make an impression on you that will last far beyond the evening you spend in the concert hall. I am excited to give you five very distinct concert experiences with our Masterworks concerts. Whereas Masterworks 1 is bombastic, Masterworks 2 is rustic and inspired by folk music. Masterworks 3 is classically elegant and optimistic, while Masterworks 4 features lively Spanish and Mexican music. The final Masterworks concert will offer sounds of the ocean along with one of the most majestic piano concertos ever written. The season will explore the power and passion of the seas through Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides, Debussy’s La Mer, Handel’s Water Music, and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Christopher Briscoe has beautifully captured this essence in our season photo. Our Summer Series is lighthearted and fun. In June, the summer evening will feel cooler with Handel’s

Water Music. The July concert features Italian music of three centuries with the focus on The Four Seasons concertos by Vivaldi, performed in their entirety. To open the Holiday season, we will perform Handel’s Messiah in December with a quartet of great soloists and the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers. We will present slightly different movements than last year, but we will still finish with the Hallelujah Chorus! Thank you for joining us for another season of inspired music. Come for the pieces you already love and leave with exciting discoveries. Let me and my wonderful Symphony musicians be your guides! See you at the concerts,
