Troyka are Chris Montague (guitars and loops), Joshua Blackmore (drums) and Kit Downes (organ), three young musicians based in London whose intense live shows have seen them hotly tipped to follow in the footsteps of Polar Bear and Portico Quartet and become the next young band to explode from the capital’s fertile jazz scene.

The bandsmen and women of the five Royal Marines bands are highly versatile. As well as playing, the musicians have a dedicated role in the Royal Marines and have carried out their military duties at virtually every major conflict in the last 100 years, taking their instruments with them to provide much needed musical entertainment to boost morale. Tonight’s concert will be a traditional programme, featuring the Corps of Drums, three soloists and some 20th century additions.

‘Virtuosity, vivacity, virility, vibrancy, vitality and versatility’: That’s how composer Stephen Whibley describes his Blue Motion – and that’s just the start of this thrilling recital by our Percussion Ensemble. Hearing is believing: whether it’s the Middle-Eastern rhythms of Anver Dorman, the post-punk energy of Ivan Trevino or Christopher Rouse’s invocation to a Hawaiian war-god, there’s simply nowhere that today’s percussionists can’t go.
