Concept essay Calm morning, no breathe, no rustle. Leaves and branches of venerable wild wood are cloaked with silent cold. The sky has just been gaining the color. Everything have harbored in anticipation. And… the golden ray of light has sliped by the top of tree crowns. Crimson sunny eye, drowsy yet, was opening its lids. Everything in the forest have been harking and complying to that morning ring, at first silent, quiet, but as shadows had becoming shorter, as silver and brighter becoming song of the sun. The trees have extended, spread, weaken and being to clap one's hands with its green leafage, continuing morning song. Dew has filled with diamond sparkling in bezel of golden sun rays, and darted competing in speed downward by emerald leaves of grass and flowers. With motoring noise drops was rolling down by broad leaves of the lash bush, beating together into whole stream, joining, removing all on its way. The bush has returned to live. Shaded with leaves dwellers have started a new day. The sun with golden ring has thrown its rays, and leaves being harking, stretched bewitching music toward.

It is the very first made architectural project. The work on project was conducted from two fronts: imaginative and functional. From functional side list and subordination structure of inner processes were made. Then on its basis the first sketches of layout were drawn, which reflects basic functional structure of the building. Whetn it was conceived in 2002 corator of the studio encoraged me to restrain the plan in more standartized pattern, however now I would go with the original layout. From imaginative side conceptional essay was written which reflects desired spirit of the environmental character of space. Then rough model had been started for searching spatial solution on layout sketch. Finally association of two work fronts had led to solution of the project via evolutional research process.

UIA STUDENT COMPETITION 2005 EXTREME Creating Space in Extreme and Extraordinary Conditions

2|Air Castle

It is the project for international students competition organised by International Union of Architect congress which took place in 2005 at Istanbul. The task of the competition was to design space for different functions chosen by participants at places which are extraordinary in terms of their geographic location, topography, flora, climate as well as social and political conditions.

The solution for the challenge was found via imaginative search which meant to be, first of all, the PORTRAIT OF CURRENT WORLD. The character expresses perceptions of SOCIAL CLOUD and WIND OF TIME. The first outlines of desired image appeared in sketch in the upper left corner (sketch 1 ) which concluded desirable impression. In that project the main media of the design is EVENT SCENARIO and visual character. Finally it appeared to be mobile emergently erecting structure (sketch 2) for extreme social and political conditions. The main elements in the structure is a big manipulated balloon system. Structure exists in a constant movement reflecting social excitement, indicating social mood thtough the system behaviour. Also structure adopts to an environment by appropriate organization of balloons order, which act by algorythm and strategy according to current issues. Essentially AIR CLOUD is a gigantic tent for convenience of political protesters.

To naive: Air castle of promises is the space for special socially-political conditions (before elections, carrying out pickets and strikes, revolutions and national excitements). The cloud which was gone down from heavens, allows believing in everything. People surrounded with miracles start to trust, what not the cloud has gone down from heavens, but people have risen. People stay in euphoria and intoxicated by miracles make not an adequate choice. But once having woken up they find out that the cloud has departed \a castle in the air has melted out, and the choice is already made. With a hang over people realize that they were rolled by.

To reasonable: The delusional clud is the device of the democracy which facilitates carrying out of public disagreement people rallies and gives them feeling of protection. The cloud of national excitement immediately appears in any place of the globe. But this cloud only material realization of public aspirations. Not the cloud but delirious people make change. Revolution is a critical circumstance which reason incorrect actions of the government. Having made revolution accessible to all the governments, countries will be more tactful and are careful to the citizens.

3 | 24th Space Prize for international students of architectural design “Faster & Bigger (2006 Seoul)

People can transfer their dwelling in any structure like this. Peoples preferences are changeable, some places are becoming empty, and other are been populate because of economical and ecological reasons. In this case new structure is populate, and the old one is left and disassembled. The only thing people should do is to transfer their house to a new place along highway.

Our today’s life is fulfilled with transport and data networks. People are transferring goods, information and move themselves. Connection of cities and countries is the main peculiarity of contemporary society. Networks unite people into single community. Their activity is to create blessing, and to eradicate injustice together, cooperate with the greats, and help the weak. We spend much time in informational and transport’s networks overcoming space.

Networks have united all people into single community, it helps to as develop the earth civilization. Some people have to travel constantly, therefore the most time they spend in transport network. It leads to the phenomenon of «DISPOSABLE world». Disposable soap (in hotels), disposable friends ( fellow-travellers), disposable crockery (eating out). All life rushes with the flash speed. The human doesn’t stay for a long time at one place, he is always on the way.

Other people, who haven’t got access to networks, remain aloof. They can’t join into world community, can’t get information, and fulfill their needs freely. They can’t give appropriate answer to new questions of permanently changing world.

Faster and bigger this is a constant movement. The society is growing and progressing, after it the architecture changes. Spatially to master this idea in the language of the form is possible in the following way. A point is a static detached object (mountain, a tower), a line this is a spatial movement (the river, road). Networks (lines) unite objects (points) in the uniform structure, the organization of a new level. All together the elements work better, than separately, they solve questions quicker. The rhythm increases, time runs faster. The whole structure includes new objects and all works faster and faster. The vector of the movement of any modern society is directed towards progress, and the rhythm of this movement is caused by connections in the society: spatial (a sailing vessel, a steam locomotive, the plane) and informative (the post, the Internet). So for organizers of space the challenge of Faster and Bigger it is a question of networks. High-speed Dragon this is a linear formation strung on a connection (highway) which is in a network. High-speed Dragon is distributed in a network and appears in that place where the stop is necessary: in mountains, in wild areas, in overpopulated cities. And everywhere it will find to its place. High-speed Dragon is divided into Skin and Content. The content is used units (dwellings, offices, etc.), they wander in a network and stop in that skin in which it is necessary. Skin it is trellised static structure. And this structure is built in those places where the users of a network want to live. Popular places are occupied, out-of-date and unnecessary skins are taking away. So to adapt movement the person transfers himself to a network: information and spatial. He is on a line but not in a certain point. And he is always in a movement, in a stream of the rough river of progress. And short stops on this river in one place (skin) are only for continuation movement again. High-speed Dragon is the life in a wires.

Limits of that album doesn’t allow to percept the elevation as a linear formation, how it was intended, however bare in mind the scale of the structure and peculiarity of lts perception on the move.

An image of any architectural object evoces creative intuition of author, express an essence of the inner processes, and catches the wind of time. Once the image of the project was found, analyzing it some explanations become evident in attenpt to legitimize the design As a result the legend of 5 components was revealed.

1 / educational one

Students in the sky “Students in the sky legend calls to move forward overcoming barriers and obstacles on the sail of the initiative. The task is to show proximity of an idea to its realization.

2 / urbanistic one

The vertical street Many old universities accommodate its students in the cottage clusters. In the project this cluster organized by vertical. Towers are vertical streets, which consists of CUBIC cottages.

3 / constructive one

Shish kebab of frame-column construction Frame-column building had changed the conception of architects about an architectural form, and had made any form an architectural one, piercing floors with column grid.

Parametric algorythm operates the pixel facade through Arduino hardware. Endless variety of behavior, based on inner comfort conditions; informative massages; surrounding (and world wide) feedback, allow building to have an live dialog with Lafayette neighborhood.

5 | The Peace Pentagon Competition New York City The Building is a unit of communication network and spatial relations, which are especially valuable in historic environment. Reaching the neighborhood stated as one of the goals, so deviating from its spatial pattern and break old-formed connections would oppose building to the district. Old building represents valuable witnessing of Peace Pentagon history in stone, identifying itself as Institution with the heritage. The main change in old building which will emphasize composition center on the pedestrian level is the wide, clear, bright portal joining lobby with the street, which welcomes people inside. Desire of tenants to interact with the street appears in spatial interface of COMUNICATIVE FAÇADE*. It is particular program of using the INTERFACE GAP** as mean of the dialog. Endless variety of behavioral algorythms allow building to have an on-line dialog with Lafayette neighborhood. The main message contained in the form is that “peace and justice” inhabits in transparent bright volume where nothing is hidden, where light reaches any corner, the place filled with light and spreading it to. + Transparent façade and bright interior provide daylight deep inside the building to minimize electricity lighting during a day. Façade shades interior from direct sunlight to avoid overheating in hot period of a year but provides reflected light deep inside /////. Sun panels on the roof catch sun heat, in winter for heating, in summer for on-site electricity generating. There are 132 cloudy days a year in NYC and every moment sun shows up in the sky the building will benefit of it. In a hot period of a year sun-heated water goes to Sterling engine (which works on temperature difference) and generate electricity for conditioning system.

Conception of visual image of the hospital based on functional and programmatic conditions. Spatial organisation of exterior and main interior areas provide airy and healthy mood initiating action in users, infusing space with fresh and subtle character. The main attention was dedicated to visual connections and use of natural material components of a space as water, stone, foliage and light to shape the image of space, avoiding complex forms. As a result of that effort the hospital consists of a chain of public areas cascading one into another, forming a network of correlated spaces, each with distinguished properties .

Printing House Lofts is a renovation project adopting multistorey warehouse in Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan for residential lofts. Building located in historic area so no modifications were made on exterior besides substitution of window frames. I was engaged into the project assisting senior architect with design development and construction documentation including details drawings and schedules. Additionally I worked on construction site sutveying engenering and mechanical systems. The project comply with current (2012) NYC Building Code and ADA act. Square footage of units varies from 1000 to 3500 sq.f. Each unit has mezzanine level where bedroom and private space located. Working on that project I obtained invaluable experience working with CD drawings and initial knowledge of coordinating project with the city.

The relation of single element to the system; unit to the whole and ovarall plasticity of the figure resembles relation of units in a flock. Indespensable significance of a single element in the flock, allows to percept the whole system as unity of elements inasmuch as a collection of linked independent units at the same time. System’s tectonics shres masonary weiving logic, adding possibility of horizontal development of the system. Closed siluet of individual element allow structure indeferent development in any direction. The ambition for the concrete system is to be flexible and universal, divorcing the form from necessity of descripton of complex mass through triangulated spatial frame. While the facet of the concrete sphere system still rely on regular tetrahedron spatial grid the next step will be to describe that techtonic in parametric terms adopting to overal geometry, departing from fordist methods of rigid produciton
