D U C T I O N THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN A WILD RIDE FOR MANY REASONS. THE MOST OBVIOUS ONE BEING THAT IT TOOK PLACE DURING A GLOBAL QUARANTINE. THIS WAS ONE OF THE OBSTACLES THAT MADE THIS UNIT ONE OF THE HARDEST CHALLENGES DURING MY TIME AT UNIVERSITY BUT AS IT WAS ONE THAT I HAD BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST

I WAS DETERMINED TO MAKE IT A SUCCESS AND I HOPE THAT I HAVE ACHIEVED THAT. THIS JOURNAL WILL BE A COMBINATION OF DOCUMENTING MY WORK AT HOW THE PROJECT TURNED OUT AS WELL AS DOCUMENTING MY PLANS FOR THINGS THAT I WAS UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO EXECUTE FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

THIS WEEK WE HAD THE BRIEFING FOR OUR FINAL MAJOR PROJECT. WE STARTED TO LOOK AT WHAT MAKES

A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT AND SOME THINGS TO AVOID AND TO LOOK OUT FOR WHILST DECIDING ON OUR TOPIC. TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DON’T CHOOSE A SUBJECT THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN EXTENSIVELY COVERED BEFORE SO THAT YOUR WORK DOESN’T BECOME A REPEAT OF PREVIOUS WORK. PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT THAT WAS RAISED DURING THIS SESSION WAS THAT IT HAD TO BE A SUBJECT THAT MOTIVATES YOU AND EXCITES YOU. BEFORE WE HAD EVEN BEEN FULLY BRIEFED, I HAD ALREADY

SPENT MONTHS OVER SUMMER WORKING ON A PERSONAL PROJECT. I WANTED TO CREATE A SHORT ZINE THAT I WOULD SELL ON ETSY AND HOPEFULLY SOME UPCOMING FAIRS. I FOUND MYSELF BEING COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH THE PROJECT AND WAS WORKING ON IT NONSTOP, AND EVEN WHEN I WASN’T WORKING ON IT, I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT. SO WHEN TOM DOWSE SUGGESTED THAT I USE IT AS A BASIS FOR MY FMP I PUT SOME SERIOUS THOUGHT INTO IT.

AFTER OUR BRIEFING WE HAD A CREATIVE WRITING SESSION WITH JANE HANKIN. THIS WAS QUITE THE EXPERIENCE AS HER PERSONALITY DOMINATES THE ROOM BUT WE ALL LEFT THAT SESSION IN A BETTER PLACE WITH OUR PROJECT THAN BEFORE. ONE OF THE THINGS I TOOK AWAY FROM THAT SESSION WAS THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSTRAINTS AND HOW WHILST THEY CAN SEEM LIKE A NEGATIVE THEY CAN OFTEN HELP TO GUIDE YOU AND KEEP YOU MOVING FORWARD INSTEAD OF BOUNCING AROUND TO MULTIPLE IDEAS NOT KNOWING WHICH TO PURSUE. THE PROCESS OF WRITING WITHOUT TOO MUCH THOUGH ALSO PROVED A USEFUL WAY OF GETTING IDEAS OUT OF YOUR HEAD QUICKLY INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PERFECT THEM AND THEN PUTTING IT ONTO THE PAGE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAS REALLY STUCK WITH ME AS IT IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH THROUGHOUT MY CREATIVE PROCESS SO LEARNING MORE ABOUT DEALING WITH THAT WAS A GREAT HELP TO ME. THERE WERE MULTIPLE GREAT MOMENTS FROM THIS SESSION THAT REALLY HELPED ME ALONG WITH MY FINAL IDEA.

THE BRAINSTORMING SESSION LED TO A LOT OF PATHS FOR ME TO LOOK INTO NOT ONLY FOR RESEARCH BUT ALSO INSPIRED NARRATIVE CHOICES AND LED TO SOME BIG BREAKTHROUGHS. WHEN I SHOWED THE ORIGINAL PERSONAL PROJECT TO TOM IT WAS BECAUSE I KNEW THAT SOMETHING WAS MISSING. IT WAS MISSING A PURPOSE, AND WHILST IT WASN’T CREATED TO BECOME SOMETHING WITH A DEEPER MEANING, I KNEW THAT IT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE SOMETHING MORE. I KEPT PUSHING AND THAT HELPED ME TO DECIDE ON THE SETTING FOR THIS NARRATIVE THAT I WANT TO TELL. THERE IS STILL A LOT THAT I NEED TO FIGURE OUT BUT I AM DEFINITELY ONE STEP CLOSER BECAUSE OF THIS SESSION.

THIS WEEK I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY CREATE FOR THE FINAL PIECE. I WANT THIS TO BE SOMETHING THAT CAN GO ALL OUT ON. I WANT TO MAKE MORE THAN JUST A SINGLE PIECE SO I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF THINGS THAT I COULD MAKE THAT WOULD GIVE A SENSE OF PLACE AND BUILD UP THE ENVIRONMENT. WITH THE SETTING OF MY NARRATIVE BEING A CARNIVAL / CIRCUS / FUN FAIR IT GIVES ME A LOT OF STRONG VISUAL ELEMENTS TO PLAY WITH. THINGS LIKE MAKING REAL ARCADE STYLE TICKETS ETC.

TODAY WE CONTINUED OUR CREATIVE WRITING WITH JANE HANKIN. WE STARTED WITH A FEW VARIOUS WRITING EXERCISES TO GET US INTO THE MIND SPACE TO WRITE WITHOUT OVER THINKING TOO MUCH. WE DID 5 LINES BASED ON A TOPIC THAT SHE CHOSE LIKE GRIEF, LUST, THE KINDNESS OF A STRANGER, PEELING AN ORANGE AND A BAD COLD. WE HAD TO WRITE IT IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AND TO NOT BE TOO PRECIOUS ABOUT IT. THE WAY THAT JANE RAN THE GROUP WAS GREAT AS AFTER EACH EXERCISE SHE WENT AROUND THE CLASS GIVING EVERYONE THE OPPORTUNITY TO READ PART OF THEIR WORK. THIS IS OFTEN A DAUNTING MOMENT WHEN PEOPLE AREN’T VERY CONFIDENT WITH PUBLIC SPEAKING BUT I THINK THIS WAS GREAT AS IT GAVE EVERYONE THE OPPORTUNITY ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE THAT WOULD LOVE TO DO IT BUT WOULDN’T HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO VOLUNTEER. THIS WAS ME BACK IN YEAR 1 AND THE CREATIVE WRITING SESSION WITH CURTIS TAPPENDEN WAS A VERY DE-

21ST JAN

FINING MOMENT DURING MY TIME AT UNIVERSITY. IT GAVE ME A LOT OF CONFIDENCE AND I COULD SEE IN THIS SESSION THAT THERE WERE OTHER STUDENTS BEING NOTED FOR THEIR GREAT WRITING THAT WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE GONE UNNOTICED AND UNPRAISED SO IT WAS A GREAT WORKSHOP. I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO DO SOME CREATIVE WRITING TO HELP GUIDE ME TOWARDS THE NARRATIVE I WANT TO TELL.

PROPOSAL

TUTORIAL

29TH JAN

HAD MY PROPOSAL TUTORIAL WITH IRO TODAY AND WE DISCUSSED MY CURRENT IDEA. WE SPOKE ABOUT HOW THE SUBJECT OF MY PROJECT DOESN’T NEED TO NECESSARILY BE SCARY AND WARPED AND THAT I COULD POSSIBLY SHOW NORMAL SUBJECTS BUT TO CREATE TENSION IN THE WAY THAT I CROP AND FRAME AND THE STYLE THAT THOSE IMAGES ARE PRESENTED IN. I GAVE ME AN ALTERNATIVE WAY OF THINKING ABOUT THINGS INSTEAD OF JUST HAVING THE SUBJECT DO ALL THE WORK, THAT I CAN ALSO DO A LOT IN THE WAY THAT THOSE IMAGES ARE PRESENTED AND ALSO PLAYING WITH THE BOOK FORMAT. I ALSO WANT TO DIVE DEEPER INTO THE MYSTERY THAT SURROUNDS THE CIRCUS/CARNIVALS ETC, AS THEY ARE VERY RICH IN TERMS OF VISUAL HISTORY.

I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN WORKING ON MY CAREER PLAN FOR THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE UNIT. I STARTED UNIVERSITY WITH THE INTENTION OF GOING INTO CHILDREN’S BOOKS ILLUSTRATION, BUT DURING MY TIME ON THE COURSE I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO MULTIPLE POSSIBILITIES AND HAVE GONE BACK AND FORWARD BETWEEN POTENTIAL JOBS THAT I THINK MAY INTEREST ME. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE WIDE VARIETY OF JOB ROLES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FROM MY ILLUSTRATION DEGREE AND WHILST THERE ARE SOME THAT I WOULD LIKE TO AIM FOR IN THE FUTURE, I AM GOING TO BE LOOKING INTO STUDIOS AND JOBS THAT WOULD STILL ALLOW ME TO BE CREATIVE WHILST PERUSING OTHER THINGS FOR THE FUTURE. I HAVE BECOME VERY INTERESTED IN NARRATIVE AND THE STRENGTH

OF VISUAL STORYTELLING. IT WAS THE TOPIC OF MY DISSERTATION AND AS A VISUAL THINKER AND LEARNER I HAVE BECOME FASCINATED WITH THE WAY THAT WE AS HUMANS CRAVE NARRATIVES. IT IS A TOPIC THAT HAS BLED OVER ONTO MY FMP AS I INTEND TO MAKE A WORDLESS NARRATIVE.

WHILST THINKING ABOUT MY FINAL PIECE AND THE IDEA OF PRESENTING IT AS A DIORAMA / COLLECTION INSTEAD OF JUST A SINGLE PIECE I HAD THE IDEA OF CREATING A STAND THAT WOULD FIT THE THEME AND LOCATION OF MY STORY AS A WAY TO DISPLAY THE BOOK. I SKETCHED OUT A FEW IDEAS BUT THE MAIN ONE THAT REALLY STOOD OUT TO ME WAS THE ICONIC IMAGERY OF THE TICKET BOOTH. IT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY VISUALLY APPEALING TO ME THROUGHOUT THIS SUBJECT AND I THINK IT WORKS WELL AS TICKET BOOTHS WORK AS THE BARRIER BETWEEN ENTERING CARNIVALS AND FAIRS SO IT SEEMS FITTING TO ASSIST THE VIEWING OF MY STORY. AFTER DRAWING OUT THE IDEA I FOUND SOME FOAM BOARD I STILL HAD LEFT OVER FROM MY SECOND YEAR PROJECT SO DECIDED TO ATTEMPT TO MAKE A MINIATURE MODEL TO SEE HOW IT COULD LOOK. I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AT THE RESULT AND SEEING IT IN 3D MADE ME INCREDIBLY EXCITED FOR THE POSSIBILITIES. THINKING ABOUT HOW IT COULD BE MADE WAS THE NEXT STEP AND I QUICKLY REALISED THAT I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO ENLIST THE HELP

OF MY UNCLE TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE. HE HAS DONE A LOT OF WOODWORK BEFORE AND ALREADY HAS THE TOOLS AND SKILLS TO PUT IT TOGETHER. I AM PLANNING TO SPEAK TO HIM TO SEE IF HE THINKS IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE IN TIME. IT WOULDN’T BE MADE FULLY TO THE SCALE OF A REAL TICKET BOOTH BUT SCALED DOWN TO FIT COMFORTABLY ON TOP OF A DISPLAY STAND OR TABLE. I EVEN FITTED THE MOCK UP WITH FOLDABLE BACK STANDS THAT CAN BE FOLDED AGAINST THE BACK SO THAT IT CAN BE EASILY TRANSPORTED AND PUT AWAY. IT COULD EASILY BE DONE WITH HINGES. IN THE PHOTOS YOU CAN SEE ROUGHLY THE SCALE OF THE BOOK, WHICH WOULD BE, ROUGHLY A4 SIZED IN COMPARISON TO THE DISPLAY STAND.

6th FEB - storyboard WHILST STARTING TO THINK ABOUT THE STORY I WANT TO TELL IN MY NARRATIVE I THOUGHT OF A PARTICULAR SCENE TO EXPERIMENT WITH. I DIDN’T HAVE THE INTENTION OF INCLUDING IT IN THE STORY BUT I WANTED TO DO IT TO TRY AND GET A SENSE OF THE TONE OF THE STORY AND POSSIBLE LAYOUT DIRECTIONS. I THINK WHAT I ENDED UP SEEMS A LITTLE MORE GRAPHIC NOVEL THAN I HAD INTENDED SO I WANT TO TRY AND EXPERIMENTING MORE WITH LESS CONVENTIONAL COMPOSITIONS.

DEVIL

STAMP A N D R I S O TICKET

DURING MY RESEARCH INTO CARNIVALS AND FUN FAIRS LOOKING FOR IMAGERY THAT I CAN ADAPT FOR MY STORY I CAME ACROSS THE ICONIC TICKETS. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BEING AT ARCADES AND SEEING KIDS WITH WHAT SEEMED LIKE A NEVER-ENDING TRAIL OF TICKETS. YOU COULD SEE THAT THEY WERE THERE FOR HOURS TRYING TO SAVE UP FOR THE BEST PRIZES. I REALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF FITTING THAT ELEMENT INTO MY STORY AND GIVING THESE PEOPLE A REASON TO BE TAKING PART IN THESE HORRIBLE ACTIVITIES, AND ALSO USING IT AS A WAY TO MEASURE HOW BAD PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WHEN THEY HAVE STACKS OF TICKETS. I HAPPENED TO FIND SOMEONE SELLING BLANK TICKETS ON ETSY FOR PRETTY CHEAP SO I ORDERED 100 OF THEM TO USE AS DECORATION WITH MY DISPLAY STAND. BUT THEN I HAD THE IDEA OF CREATING SOME KIND OF SMALL STAMP TO ADD A DESIGN SO THAT THEY AREN’T JUST PLAIN RED TICKETS. I CAME UP WITH THE DESIGN OF THE DEVILS FACE LOGO I HAD BEEN WORKING ON TO WORK AS THE MASCOT FOR THIS PLACE; THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE SIZE OF THE TICKETS. THEY ARE 2X1 INCHES EACH, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT SIZE. LUCKILY FOR ME I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS A VERY SKILLED

LINO CARVER AND SHE OFFERED TO HELP ME OUT, SO I SENT HER THE DIMENSIONS AND THE DESIGN AND SHE WAS ABLE TO CREATE AN INCREDIBLY ACCURATE STAMP FOR ME TO USE. I WAS TRULY BLOWN AWAY BY HOW GOOD IT LOOKED AND IT JUST MAKES EACH TICKET POP AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER WITH HOW THEY TURNED OUT. BETWEEN THE TIME OF THE DESIGN OF THE STAMP AND THE CREATION OF IT I DEVELOPED THAT CONCEPT INTO AN IDEA FOR A RISOGRAPH PRINT. I CREATED A MORE DETAILED VERSION OF THE TICKET SHAPE AND THE STAMP TO BE ABLE TO BE PRINTED INTO A TWOLAYER RISOGRAPH PRINT THAT COULD BE SOLD AT THE EXHIBITION SHOP. I PRINTED THEM IN A4 AND DESPITE SOME ALIGNMENT ERRORS DURING THE PROCESS; I LEFT WITH A BUNCH OF QUALITY PRINTS.

LONDON TRIP TO SCRIBERIA TODAY WE HAD A COURSE TRIP TO LONDON AND HAD A TALK FROM DESIGN STUDIO SCRIBERIA. THIS WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GAIN INSIGHT INTO AN ACTIVE STUDIO AND HEAR FROM WORKING PRACTITIONERS. THE TALK COVERED WHAT THE STUDIO SPECIALISES IN AND A LOT OF THEIR WORK PROCESS. THEY PUT A LOT OF EMPHASIS ON DRAWING NOT JUST TO CREATE A FINAL IMAGE BUT AS A TOOL TO GENERATE IDEAS AND WORKING AS VISUAL THINKERS. THE STUDIO WAS A HAVEN FOR ANY DESIGNER HAVING THE WALLS COVERED IN DRY WIPE SURFACES WITH NOTES AND DRAWINGS ALL ROUND IT IS EASY TO FEEL INSPIRED AND YOU CAN SEE HOW THE IDEAS FLOW IN THAT ROOM. THEY ALSO HAVE A SENSE OF COLLABORATION AND YOU GET THE FEELING THAT THEY ARE CONSTANTLY BOUNCING IDEAS OFF EACH OTHER AND GETTING FEEDBACK. THE DRY WIPE BOARDS ALSO ADDS AN ELEMENT OF NOT FEELING TOO PRECIOUS ABOUT DRAWINGS WHICH IS A REALLY INTERESTING THING TO NOTE AS BEFORE UNIVERSITY I DEFINITELY FELT TOO NERVOUS TO PUT PEN TO PAPER OVER FEARS OF IT NOT BEING PERFECT SO I CAN SEE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING THIS AS ANY-

THING THAT NEEDS TO BE SAVED CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED, IF NOT, IT CAN BE WIPED AWAY AND FORGOTTEN. ANOTHER THING THAT I NOTED WAS ABOUT “BRINGING A VISUAL ELEMENT TO A NON VISUAL THING” AND THAT STOOD OUT TO ME. IT IS A GREAT SKILL TO BE ABLE TO CREATE A VISUAL FROM SOMETHING SOMEONE SAYS OR SOMETHING YOU HEAR ABOUT AND THAT IS A SKILL THAT CAN BE UTILISED IN SO MANY CAREERS. THERE WERE LOTS OF IMPORTANT PROCESSES THAT WE TALKED ABOUT THAT I WILL DEFINITELY USE MOVING FORWARD.

EXHIBITION M E E T I N G

DURING OUR MEETING ABOUT THE EXHIBITION STRUCTURE I DISCOVERED THAT WE WOULDN’T HAVE OUR OWN SPACES TO PRESENT OUR WORK AS WE DID IN THE SECOND YEAR EXHIBITION, BUT WE WOULD INSTEAD HAVE DESIGNATED AREAS TO FIT CERTAIN TYPES OF OUTCOMES, SO A SECTION FOR BOOKS, CERAMICS, ETC. THIS VERY MUCH RUINED A LOT OF MY PLANS, AS I HAD WANTED TO CREATE A WHOLE DISPLAY SURROUNDING MY BOOK. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE ALL OF THIS AS IT SHOWS THE AMOUNT OF THOUGHT THAT WENT INTO HOW I WANTED TO PRESENT MY PIECE AND I WOULDN’T BE HAPPY JUST PRESENTING A BOOK THAT I TRULY WANTED TO GO ALL OUT FOR THIS FINAL PROJECT. AS THIS BOOK IS SOMETHING I HOPE TO DEVELOP EVEN AFTER GRADUATION THE DISPLAY IS SOMETHING I COULD STILL THINK ABOUT GETTING MADE FOR MY OWN PERSONAL PROMOTION.

BACK IN THE SECOND YEAR OF UNIVERSITY ROBIN SHOWED US A LARGE SCREEN-PRINTED ACCORDION BOOK CREATED BY IGOR HOFBAUER. I WAS INSTANTLY DRAWN TO IT AND FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS WORK. I HAVE SINCE PURCHASED A COPY OF IT FOR MYSELF INCLUDING ONE OF HIS BOOKS. THIS BOOK IN PARTICULAR MISTER MORGAN IS A BIG INFLUENCE IN MY COLOUR PALETTE CHOICES AND ALSO IN THE NON-LINEAR STRUCTURE OF HIS STORIES. WHILST IT ISN’T WORDLESS IT DOES HAVE WORDLESS SECTIONS AND TO ME IT JUST FEELS VERY UNIQUE. THE SCREENPRINTED BOOK WAS THE PIECE THAT MADE ME THINK ABOUT DOING THIS AS A FINAL PIECE.

VORACE BY BRULEX

AFTER BECOMING SLIGHTLY OBSESSED WITH SCREEN-PRINTED BOOKS I BEGAN SEARCHING FOR AS MUCH INSPIRATION FOR THIS PROJECT AS I COULD AND FOUND A NEW RELEASE BY A FRENCH ILLUSTRATOR NAMED BRULEX. I THINK BARELY 5 MINUTES AFTER SEEING THIS BOOK ONLINE FOR THE FIRST TIME I HAD ALREADY ORDERED IT. IT LOOKED ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO OWN IT. IT IS VERY CLOSE TO WHAT I HAD IMAGINED FOR MY BOOK AND IT IS SOMETHING I HOPE TO AIM FOR AS A FINAL OUTCOME. THE STITCHED EDGE IS GREAT AND REALLY ADDS A QUALITY LOOK TO IT. IT IS WORDLESS AND THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE SLIGHTLY MORE ABSTRACT THAN I AM HOPING FOR BUT I DO LIKE HOW THEY LOOK. THE COLOURS ARE STUNNING AND THE EXTRA PULL OUT PAGES IS SO CLEVER. THE COMPANY THAT PRODUCED IT HAS BECOME A PLACE THAT I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO REACH OUT TO WHEN IT COMES TO THINKING ABOUT TRYING TO GET THIS BOOK PUBLISHED AFTER UNIVERSITY.

POST CARD DESIGN 22nd f e b

THE NARRATIVE FOR MY PROJECT HAS DEVELOPED AND I AM NOW LOOKING AT COMPARING THIS DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND TO DESTINATIONS LIKE VEGAS AND HOLLYWOOD. EARLY ON I KNEW THAT I WANTED TO TRY AND CREATE SOMETHING EXTRA THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO SEND OUT TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND ALSO TO ILLUSTRATORS AND PUBLISHERS TO INVITE THEM TO OUR FINAL EXHIBITION TO VIEW MY SCREEN-PRINTED BOOK. I KNOW THAT IT WOULD BE UNLIKELY TO HAVE PEOPLE TO SHOW UP FROM LONDON BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO GET MY NAME OUT THERE AND TO START THAT DIALOGUE WITH THESE PLACES. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS A TICKET BUT HAVING DONE THAT ALREADY FOR THE PRINT I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING ELSE. THEN I HAD THE IDEA OF CREATING A VINTAGE STYLE DESTINATION POSTCARD WITH A TWIST. PROMOTING THE BAD SIDE OF THIS PLACE INSTEAD OF THE SUNNY BEACHES AND VIEWS LIKE MOST OF THEM DO. I HAVE CREATED A FEW DESIGNS IN MY SKETCHBOOK AND I AM REALLY PLEASED WITH THE IDEA. I WOULD LIKE TO SCREEN PRINT THEM USING THE SAME COLOURS AS THE BOOK BUT I KNOW THAT I MAY NOT HAVE TIME SO IT COULD HAVE TO BE PRINTED DIGITALLY IN THE BUREAU. UPDATE: DUE TO THE NOW DIGITAL HAND IN AND THE CURRENT CANCELLATION OF OUR EXHIBITION I WILL CLEARLY NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE OR SEND THESE OUT. I AM STILL GOING TO CREATE THE FINAL ILLUSTRATION TO BE HANDED IN AND ALSO IF WE ARE ABLE TO RESCHEDULE THE SHOW THEN I WILL HAVE IT READY TO BE PRINTED.

FINDING T H E S T Y L E

23RD FEB

DURING THE WEEKEND I WORKED ON A SKETCH FROM MY SKETCHBOOK IN PROCREATE ON MY IPAD AND MANAGED TO FIGURE OUT THE ART STYLE THAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS BOOK. I HAVE FOUND THE COLOURS I WISH TO USE AND THE TYPES OF BRUSHES AND SHADING TECHNIQUES I WILL USE. I THINK THIS STYLE ACHIEVES THE ATMOSPHERE THAT I WAS HOPING FOR AND I AM EXCITED TO SEE HOW IT LOOKS AS AN ENTIRE COLLECTION.

T H U M B N A I L S 11TH MARCH WITH MY NARRATIVE STRUCTURE READY I HAVE NOW STARTED TO PUT TOGETHER THUMBNAILS FOR THE FINAL PAGES. IT IS LOOKING A LOT MORE AMBITIOUS THAN I HAD INITIALLY INTENDED BUT I KNOW THAT IT IS STILL ACHIEVABLE AND I WANT TO GO ALL OUT FOR THIS AND CREATE SOMETHING SPECTACULAR. I AM GOING TO BE PUTTING EVERYTHING I HAVE LEARNT INTO THIS. I HAVE STARTED IN MY SKETCHBOOK BUT ONCE I HAVE A ROUGH IDEA FOR EACH PAGE I WILL BE TAKING THAT INTO PROCREATE TO CREATE THEM DIGITALLY SO THAT THEY CAN EASILY BE MANIPULATED AND MOVED AS THEY NEED TO BE AND THIS SHOULD HOPEFULLY SAVE ME SOME TIME, AS IT IS A MUCH QUICKER WORK METHOD FOR ME.

C V O I RR DUE TO THE ON GOING SPREAD OF THE CORONA VIRUS WE HAVE UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO LEAVE UNIVERSITY AND INSTEAD OUR UNITS HAVE CHANGED TO A DIGITAL HAND IN INSTEAD OF A PHYSICAL ONE. WHILST THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE UNIVERSITY IT IS SUCH BAD TIMING AND HAS HAD A HUGE EFFECT ON THE PLANS THAT I HAD BEEN WORKING TOWARDS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. WITH THE CHANGES BEING MADE IT HAS NOW CANCELLED OUR FINAL EXHIBITION AS WELL AS POSTPONING OUR GRADUATION CEREMONY. A LOT OF WHAT I HAVE TALKED ABOUT PREVIOUSLY WILL NOW NOT REALLY MATCH UP WITH THE CURRENT PLANS, HOWEVER IT IS IMPORTANT THAT I DOCUMENT EVERYTHING I WAS PLANNING TO DO AS THE CHANGES NOT ONLY EFFECTED ME NOT BEING

ABLE TO PRODUCE THE FINAL SCREEN-PRINTED BOOK BUT ALSO MANY OTHER ELEMENTS THAT I HAD BEEN WORKING HARD TOWARDS. I AM HOPING THAT NONE OF IT GOES TO WASTE AND STILL COUNTS TOWARDS WHAT I WAS HOPING TO ACHIEVE. I STILL HAVE EVERY INTENTION OF RETURNING TO UCA ONCE I AM ABLE TO PRODUCE MY BOOK TO THE QUALITY THAT I HAD INTENDED FOR THE EXHIBITION. OUTSIDE OF THE WORK I AM INCREDIBLY SAD TO BE MISSING OUT ON TIME IN FARNHAM. BEING A PART OF THIS UNIVERSITY HAS MEANT TO MUCH TO ME AND IT HAS BEEN SUCH AN AMAZING JOURNEY FOR ME SO TO BE MISSING OUT ON MY FINAL MONTHS HAS BEEN TORTURE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE STUDIO ENVIRONMENT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR ME AND THE WAY THAT I WORK AND NOT

O N A R U S BEING AROUND OTHER CREATIVE’S HAS BEEN TOUGH TO CONTINUE WITH THESE PROJECTS BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT CANT BE HELPED BUT I AM EXCITED TO HOPEFULLY

RETURN AT SOME STAGE TO COMPLETE MY FINAL PIECE AND POSSIBLY RETURN TO PUT ON OUR FINAL SHOW.
