RYAN McKEE Design

Dear prospective employeer: I am actively seeking an internship position in the field of landscape architecture. I am currently a third year student in the Landscape Architecture Program at The Ohio State University and am expected to graduate in the spring of 2017. Throughout the past three years I have developed strong skills in Landscape Architecture Design, Adobe Suite Software, AutoCAD, Rhino, site modeling, time management and leadership. I am eager to gain hands on experience in the field of Landscape Architecture. In addition to these skills, my current coursework is focused on design detail and construction documents. In addition to these skills developed in design school I also have excellent costumer service skills, a strong work ethic, and a passion for learning and have traveled throughout much of Europe, North America, and the Carribean. My expereinces traveling, volunteering, and working have allowed me the opprunity to see many great spaces and places and ignited a desire to create. I firmly believe that my life experience in combindation with a strong educational background will serve me well as I develop professional experience. Thank you for your time. Sincerly, Ryan McKee

Semester one. Year three. This fairground master plan established a permanent residential community within the context of a former industrial sports complex/urban setting.Creating a system of open spaces that can serve as planting, staging, and park areas while also leaving programable space for an annual state fair that expects around one million visitors was the largest accomplishment of this project.

Semester one. Year three. Creating enough parking for up to 100,000 pedestrians a day for while also minimizing the appearance of parking to the typical parking needs of 4,000 people was the most difficult part of this project. The left side of the site serves as water retention and green space for an adjacent urban community. Site paths provide short scenic routes as well as long experiential routes to satsify the needs of youth and elderly populations. This site is highly dynamic and responsive to it’s program needs.

LANDSCAPES FOLDING

Final Board

Semester two. Year two. The site is marked by elongated and rising levels of earth. The main paths allignment is with a natural axis that runs through the campus. Folding of the earth creates spaces for reading rooms, a small book depository, and a recessed programmable space. This site is designed to be able to be used for all for season. The nature of the slope of the green roofs allows for their use as green space with pedestrian access. The slope also creates large benches and various semi private notches throughout the site. This site also serves as a heavily trafficked pedestrian corridor which influced the bar shaped structures that guide a person along an experience through the site.

Semester one. Year two. Section represents the condition of edge that exists for a large portion of New Orleans along the Mississippi River. This study shows the above ground condition and human interaction with the site as well as the below ground systems that allow the city to function. This section describes the importance of the levees for the inhabitants of the city. This project was completed using construction drawings, illustrator and photoshop.

LEVEE STUDY

Semester one. Year two. The below image is a study of the impact of traffic on vacant and blighted properties near South Claiborne Ave in New Orleans. This map represents areas of vacant lots, green spaces and transportation systemss. Data was used to create a series of public transportation stations that increase overall traffic to the area as well as improves the qiality of life for people who interact with this system. The data used in the making of this map was obtained from ArcGIS and government organizations as well as google earth. The goal of this project was to create a system of transportation improvements over multiple phases.

POPULATION INVESTIGATION Semester one. Year two. Graphical representation of population dispersion pre and post Hurricane Katrina. This project data was compiled using ArcGIS, research from outreach to community organizations and other scholarly journals and government organizations. The information gathered and interpreted in this graphic was used to influence intervention for new public transportation systems .

PATH SITE LINES

7

Semester One. Year One. This project is about site lines, path, and elevation. I focused on creating numerous viewpoints for the user to their upcoming journey, the journey they’ve already made, and the journey others might take throughout the site. This project creates a variety of spaces and places

8

PUBLIC BATHS

Semester One. Year One. This project creates three public baths. I chose to push and pull terrain around the path of a river and to create a outdoor bath house thats is a rectangluar in nature. One pool is a natrual extenstion of the river and another is disconnected from the river. The disconnected pool is divided by a wall at the height of the water. The east side is deeper and the west side is shallow and geared towards wading. The spaces created in this project provide the user with a chance to interact with the natural state of the river and its condtion as well as providing a controlled water condtion. Finishing with a series of lounges and changing rooms. This project was all done with hand drawn plans and hand cutting material to create a model.

SYSTEM MODELING Semester Two. Year Two. This project is a systematic represenation of the built enviroment along a levee in Bywater district of New Orleans. This model is used and held together with gravity. There were no adhesives used or screws used to provide structural support. This model was done by a partner and I. This represents our idea of the systems of organzation on site.

SLOPE MODELING

Hydrology

Semester Two. Year Two. This project was a study on water levels and topographic conditons though slope analysis. The different slopes used in this project represent my interpretation of typical landform slopes. Water studies were conducted to understand flood levels and their occurences across the site. Clay modeling, Rhino, AutoCAD, Photo Shop and Illustrator were

Semester one. Year three. The goal of this project was to use Rhino, AutoCAD, and a laser cutter to reproduce an image of bark. This process began with an image of tree bark. I cropped and zoomed in and used the topographic nature of bark to create a 3D model. This model was divided into pieces to be cut on the laser cutter. From here the pieces were then compiled to form a semi regid object. The individaul pieces are able to move and the form allows the user handling the piece to have a dyanmic experience. a solid however once it is hand held it has movement.
