BUFFALO BAYOU PARK: NATURE PLAY - SWA

Sabine St. is pictured at the bottom right in the rendering above; the Parks department’s Jamail Skate Park is on the left. Pretty much everything else shown in the drawing is a new feature going in as part of the Waterworks portion of the park, including the Sky Lawn and Sky Lawn Pavilion directly behind the Visitors Center (atop the famed abandoned cistern) and the Nature Play Area along the northern bank of the bayou at the bottom of the rendering.

AUTHENTIC

CENTENIAL PARK: The 15-acre park has been built where the Houston Garden Center previously stood and features many traditional structures, attractions and sights, such as a grand entry pavilion, a rose garden, an interactive garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. There are spaces and gardens that serve as lovely formal outdoor spaces for those wanting an event venue to rent.

HERMANN PARK: Hermann Park is one of Houston’s great civic resources containing a significant urban forest and many public venues. It is the flagship of the Houston Park system, serving the recreation needs of the City’s diverse population of some four million and welcoming over six million visitors a year. Hermann Park represents the best of civic mindedness and philanthropy for which Houston is acclaimed, and serves as a successful example of the value of great civic spaces

INQUISITIVE

THE BROCHSTEIN PAVILION-OJB The Brochstein Pavilion has transformed the Central Quadrangle into the social center of the Rice University campus. The 6,000 SF pavilion offers light refreshments and features a 10,000 SF covered outdoor terrace. Set in a field of decomposed granite, a grove of 48 Allee Lacebark Elms respond to the grid of the building and organize the space between the Pavilion and the adjacent Fondren Library. Two low concrete fountains define the space under the canopy and movable seating accommodates impromptu gatherings of students and faculty. Additional plantings of Live Oaks and improved pedestrian paths reinforce the existing framework of the Quadrangle.

ENERGY CENTER THREE, FOUR, & FIVE - TBG Similar to the adjacent Energy Center Three, Four, and Five buildings, are pre-certified LEED Gold and boasts a number of energy efficient design elements that are incorporated into the exterior, such as aluminum sunshades, ceramic frit, and high efficiency LED accent lighting. The purposeful design of the project is to collect rain water and to adjust based on the amount of water intake. The water is then sent to a underground cistern tank where it will then be used for on site irrigation.

INCLUSIVE

EXPLORATION PARK - TBG The design of Exploration Park is rooted in children’s play, environmental stewardship, educational principles, and an overall site design inspired by water. Exploration Park will provide users with a multipurpose play area, an open lawn for unstructured play, and a pavilion and picnic area. The “nature-based play” movement aims to foster a relationship between children and nature, and stems from Richard Louv’s book, “Last Child in the Woods,” which argues that modern children rarely play outside and suffer from a “nature-deficit disorder.”
