SOCIAL SANCTUARY Wellness Center // Kansas City, MO // Fall 2014 // BNIM
Location: Crossroads, Kansas City, Missouri The Crossroads District is a revived cultural community. It is the city’s main art gallery district and center for visual arts. Much of the Crossroads district is comprised of renovated warehouses and industrial buildings, but it is also home to restaurants, architects, and Kansas City’s Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Wellness should be defined as a human need. Included in the most basic of human needs is the urge to be social and cooexist. This idea becomes the main driving factor to the Kansas City Wellness Center. The studio/classroom activities are a prime example of fulfilment of this need, and so they are made a focal point of the design.
INHABITING THE VOID
Museum // New York, NY // Spring 2014 // Genevieve Boudoin
Museum Plaza (Composited Sketches in Photoshop)
This project is designed to exhibit the works of American sculptor, Martin Puryear.
Location: East Village, Manhattan, New York The historic neighborhood is mostly comprised of residential buildings. Since the late 1960’s, when many artists, musicians, students and began to move in, is has been characterized by its diverse community, vibrant nightlife, and artistic sensibility.
Response: Create a Shared Plaza Space To accomodate a public building in a residential neighborhood there derives a need for public space. The Art Plaza is an inhabitable void between the separated program of the restaurant and gallery. The Plaza is meant to provide an interactive transition into the museum.
Section Perspective A-A’ The main spaces highlighted in this sectional drawing are the gallery spaces. Martin Puryear creates many large and detailed sculptures. The gallery is formed to house 2-3 pieces on each level and maintain focus on one centralized piece.

Organization and Light: Shear Walls Three massive shear walls are used to structure, service, and organize the building. The walls are moved to the interior of the building to allow in abundant natural light. The light is filtered through the exterior screen and allowed in directly by an overhead, centralized skylight.
Since the exhibits will change over time the museum is designed to provide flexibility of use while maintaining the main organization and natural light qualities.
CONTEXTUAL
WEAVE Viewing Deck + Pavilion // London Spring 2014 // Genevieve Boudoin
This project is designed to exhibit the ruins of the Roman Wall (below grade), and house a visitor pavilion that will serve the city of London and its Museum.
Museum of London
London Wall
Location: London, England The city of London has an urban fabric that is woven together by a series of bridges and underpasses that connect the structures. The site is situated on London Wall, a historically enriched street in London, England that follows the remains of the ancient Roman Wall.
Site Roman Ruins
Response: Weave into the Urban Fabric To immerse in the full context of the project site, the public walkway quite literally weaves. Pushes and pulls are designed in order to maintain access and provide moments of observation. The pavilion perches above the main road to encourage tourists and locals to become part of thier urban surroundings.

Cantilevered Gallery (Rhino 5 + Photoshop)
Location: Wildcat Creek, Manhattan, Kansas Situated on an open prairie, this project becomes a piece of sculpture. The plot of land provides sweeping views of the prairie in all directions. The land slopes down to the North and provides a much broader view.
Response: Integration of Public Program Within the structure, students of the arts (metal, ceramics, and glass) come to learn of thier craft. In an effort to intrigue the public, program is generated and isolated within another form. The contrast between these two entities are expressed with duality between heavy and light. The student space resides within the heavy mass which is grounded and establishing permanence. Visitors will enter the bar of light in a familiar grounded way, but slowly lift off the ground to an eventual heightened experience within the gallery.
