The establishment of a high-speed rail station – to be shared with
Yizhuang’s new skyscraper district to the south – represents a
tremendous development opportunity for Taihu. The simple gesture
of bridging over Beijing-Tianjin Expressway is all that is needed for
local residents to gain access to a vast regional transit network. A new
satellite urban core is anticipated to emerge in the area north of the
station. We propose that a dense new street network and urban block
structure should be superimposed here to encourage a high-density
mix of uses and to facilitate pedestrian and light-rail connectivity. Parks
and open spaces, as well as preserved portions of existing villages, are
woven into the fabric of the new district plan.
