Welcome to Rye Country Day School’s Blue & Gold Ball. It’s not often we can say that we have a 150th birthday to celebrate! I am thrilled to be able to share this momentous occasion with all of you. The Parents Association Spring Benefit takes place every other year and is the single largest fundraiser for our organization. Funds raised at the Blue & Gold Ball will be used for student scholarships, faculty professional grants, equipment grants and more, all of which further enhance the educational experience at RCDS. Please join me in congratulating the Blue & Gold Ball Co-Chairs, Lisa Allen and Elizabeth Moyer. Their boundless enthusiasm, creativity and tireless dedication are clearly evident in the enormous success of this event. Dear Friends, Tonight is a very special occasion as we come together to celebrate Rye Country Day School and its first 150 years of educating and preparing young people to contribute to their world. I couldn’t be prouder of the RCDS that exists today, nor of the students or faculty who fill its halls. In some ways, today’s school seems light years away from the small, all-girls seminary that opened its doors in Rye 150 years ago. But when you look closer, you notice more similarities than differences. Even back in the late 19th century, a Rye Country Day education meant more than just the Three R’s, as its founder, Susan J. Life, proposed to prepare her students for college and a life of service and understanding. It was Mrs. Life who coined our motto, Not for Self, but for Service, and it is that motto that has acted as a guide star to all the leaders and faculty of RCDS down through the decades. Today, we find our students still hewing close to its teachings, fashioning a life of meaning through educational exploration and service to others. Imagine if Susan J. Life could see us tonight! I think she would be amazed – and gratified – that her experiment in educational innovation had resulted in such a vibrant, dedicated community. So, let’s celebrate! Let’s celebrate all the accomplishments of the last 150 years and all the challenges met, and let’s celebrate the next 150 years and the students and leaders of the future. May they continue to find meaning and satisfaction in educational pursuit and the use of that education to improve their world. RCDS AUCTION GUIDELINES

Live and Silent Auction General Rules & Conditions A Live Auction bid is entered by raising your hand and being recognized by the auctioneer. The auctioneer has the right to determine bidding increments on each item. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder. The title to each article passes to the highest bidder on the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges, substitutions or refunds. Please read specifications and limitations carefully. All auction purchases must be used by the winning family and are non-transferable. Winning bidders must settle their accounts with a personal check or credit card the night of the Benefit. In the case of a group bid/purchase, each group member must pay his/her individual share to Rye Country Day School (RCDS) by check or credit card in order to claim relevant tax deductions. Auction items must be collected the night of the Benefit unless other arrangements are made through the Auction Committee. If delivery of an item is required, it will be the purchaser’s responsibility to arrange it unless otherwise specified. All Auction items have been donated to RCDS and are auctioned by the School and not the donor. Please do not request refunds or exchanges from the donors. The purchaser waives any claims for liability against RCDS, the Auction Committee, or the donor of property or services, and neither the School nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damages to property that may result from the utilization of property or services sold. RCDS and its employees, agent or the Auction Committee give no warranty or guarantee, expressed or implied, on any items. All items are sold “as is” and “with all faults” condition. All restrictions are as stated, no exceptions please. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items, property and services must be used by April 12, 2020. Dates should be arranged at the mutual convenience of both the purchaser and the donor, unless otherwise noted. For tax purposes, all “Priceless” items will be considered to have a value of $50.

Once registered, you will receive a text message with a link to the Silent Auction website. Open your text message and click on the link to be redirected to the site. (You do not need to download an app or open a separate browser.) Select “Click here to Bid” on the homepage and you will be presented with the following options: • • • • • • •

Search by Item Number or Keyword – Enter item name or number and hit search View All – See all auction items Categories – Browse items by category My Items – Items you have bid on or are “watching” Donate – Make a tax-deductible donation to the organization Sponsors – Information on event sponsors Items Without Bids – List of Items with no bids

To place a bid, select an item and choose “Bid”; the software will automatically display the opening bid amount or will show the next minimum bid amount and you will be asked by pop-up screen to confirm your bid. A second box will appear to let you know if you are winning the item. If someone has outbid you, you will be asked to enter in a higher bid. For easier bidding you can also do the following: • Change the bid amount – You can manually enter any amount that is greater than the “next bid”. • Set a maximum bid – So that you don’t risk getting outbid at the last minute, everyone is encouraged to set a maximum bid. The auction software will automatically raise your bid by a pre-determined increment until your maximum bid has been met or the Silent Auction ends. • Watch Item – Add an item to your “My Items” list for easy reference later. Once you have bid on an item, you can keep track of your bids under the “My Items” icon on your mobile device or ask an assistant with an iPad to look it up. When the Silent Auction closes, you will receive a text message. Please go to the check-out area to finalize your purchase and pick up your items at the end of the evening. If you do not win any items or make any purchases, your card will not be charged. 8

AUCTIONEER Patrick J. Tully Patrick Tully is a professional Emcee and Auctioneer who has over 17 years of expertise, raising millions of dollars across the United States for hundreds of charities and foundations including: Marc Anthony’s Maestro Cares, Petra Nemcova's Happy Hearts Fund, The American Heart Association and the United States Ski Team, just to name a few. Mr. Tully is also the co-founder of the Kate Shea Foundation for Leukemia research www.katesheafoundation.org . In addition to that, Mr. Tully is the Vice President of Development for the Ireland Funds, which has raised over $600 million dollars for Irish charities around the world. Mr. Tully’s auction talents have been seen on TV, recently guest starring in National Geographic’s Brain Games. He also co-hosted the lifestyle show The Morning Blend and has created an auction game show titled Paddle Battle.
