Since its establishment in 1992, Ryegate Associates has held a prominent position as a local power provider, overseeing the operation of a state-of-the-art 20 MW wood-fired electrical power (biomass) generation facility nestled in East Ryegate. Our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability is exemplified by integrating a cutting-edge Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions control system, effectively mitigating emissions from the plant. The SCR device is a remarkable engineering achievement, featuring a stack bypass that skillfully directs combustion gases through an array of 477 ceramic plates, each measuring 2 feet by 2 feet. Within these plates resides a titanium catalyst akin to the technology found in automobile catalytic converters. The results are awe-inspiring, with NOx emissions experiencing a significant reduction, dropping from approximately 1.5 lbs/mmBTU to a mere 0.75 lbs/mmBTU, marking a remarkable 50% decrease. Operating as a reliable baseload electrical generation plant, our facility consistently maintains operation at or near total capacity, guaranteeing our valued customers a dependable and uninterrupted power supply. The only exceptions to this steadfast commitment are brief intervals designated for scheduled maintenance, during which we diligently optimize the plant's performance. We take immense pride in our enduring legacy of powering the local community. With our state-of-the-art facility and unwavering dedication to environmental responsibility, we remain committed to setting sustainable power generation standards. The Ryegate Associates Power Generation Facility is honored to employ a dedicated team of 21 individuals, with many being residents. Among our esteemed team members, we are privileged to have a regulatory forester who ensures compliance with the Vermont Harvesting Regulations, underscoring our commitment to responsible forestry practices.
