She was forced to resign only four days after winning the pageant, upon the media creating extremely negative and lurid headlines as she was an unwed mother with an 18-month-old son. This had never been hidden from the time she was crowned Miss Wales, but the lurid headlines in the hours immediately following her win at Miss World, particularly interviews given by the wife of the child's father, created extreme pressure on Morgan and the Miss World organization. Although this did not violate any of the competition rules (which stipulated only that entrants must be unmarried), pressure was placed on her by the Miss World Organization that she should resign to save them from further potential embarrassment.

Controversies That Shocked The Miss World Organisation
Marjorie Wallace was the first Miss United States to ever win the Miss World pageant. However, she was stripped off her title after she was found to be dating several celebrities during her reign as she wasn't keeping up to the pageant's reputation.
Miss Honduras Maria Jose Alvarado was murdered along with her sister by her sister's boyfriend. She was going to represent Honduras for Miss World 2014 in London. Instead of sending in a replacement, Honduras withdrew from the competition that year.
When a group of Miss World contestants visited Cambridge University, a group of nine students kidnapped Miss South Africa, Johanna Carter. They hoped to ransom her in exchange for money for a student charity week.
Linor Abargil was raped just a few weeks before she represented Israel at the Miss World 1998 and won. After the pageant, she succeeded in getting her rapist arrested and has since been a strong advocate for women's rights.
In 1996, a protest took place in Bangalore where there were threats of mass suicide and planned attacks against the bikini round of the pageant. 1,500 people were arrested on the day of the finals. The competition was shifted to Seychelles and was won by Miss Greece Irene Skliva.
