Fruit Observation
The photograph of the same cucumber through time
Observation drawings of cucumber on different scales
With the 10:1 observation drawing, three elements, the shape of the cells, the texture of the cells, and the fiber were taken into the next model.
The semi-transparant material (symbolising the flesh) were shaped into the cells, and were weaved together (to symbolise the fiber holding them together). Due to the fact that model was weaved together, it is not a fixed form. While hanged, the model can demonstrate greater complexity.
The process of making a larger model
With the model, its interesting interaction with light became the focal point. Beautifully shaped Shadows were captured.
The forms demostrated while the model is being hanged.
Pavilion A cell is a basic unit of an organism , and an ideal intimate social unit is around 5 people, which is the group size each “cell” in the pavilion aims to accommodate.
Drawing inspiration from the uneven arranging of the cells from the previous model, I decided to make the pavilion into a terrace.
1:100 model A 1:100 study model was created to explore the uneven terrace, and to see how people might actually fit into the structure. The larger model was then created beased on this.
1:50 model The final 1:50 model. The pavilion has both the terrace area and the covered seating area below. The highest point is about the same hieght as the surrounding trees, at which people can enjoy unobstructed view.
Close View The semi-transparant material used for the terrace allows natural light to shed through to the lower area, creating a special atomsphere.
Metamorphosis The world is undergoing a metamorphosis and so is architecture. Within the same city or even district, historical and modern buildings stand shoulder to shoulder, manifesting the fast pace of evolution in architecture.
Collage
The white and uniformed forms resemble the old structure while the black and unique shapes represent the new. The new is growing out from the old, the truly mesmerizing transformation is -- metamorphosis
