The National Eating Disorder Walk’s purpose was to prove the power of a community and to help others fight the illness by supporting one another. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. Although, walking at 5am in the morning to pick up my friend and arriving at Flushing Library wasn’t a pleasant idea. At the same time, the meet up changed to 7:40 am. and since we already arrived at Flushing Library, we had time to eat breakfast. Later, I was able to go out of my comfort zone and communicate to people in different grades and schools. During the walk, I was able to meet and learn from new friends with different personalities. The walk did not feel long at all, because while we crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, we had fun talking to one another and taking photos of the sceneries around us.-Cindy Qiu, member 5

On Sunday October 7th, I went to the National Eating Disorder Walk, located in Foley Square. This walk’s purpose was to help people with eating disorders. A eating disorder is basically when a person is disturbed from his/her eating habits. It can be caused by many previous events, such as low self-esteem, bullying, peer pressure, depression, lack of self confidence, behavioral problems and etc. There are many ways a person can get an eating disorder, and it impacts a person’s health negatively. A person can get help from others by talking to them about all their problems, but it won’t necessary help because a person’s mind consists of how they see themselves as and how they view their life. There were many people, many different nonprofit, and for-profit organizations trying to help these people get better. The walk in Manhattan was full of people gathered all around donating money to help people get healthier and return to normal eating habits and normal lives. During this process, people got to donate, register, and receive T-shirts to support people. Top donators get a prize and a shout out by the people. In this walk we traveled with a group and we walked up the Brooklyn Bridge, there was a nice view and many organizations there to help support the people and spread awareness. One thing I learned about this event is that, there are many people all around trying to help spread awareness and help the people. Another thing is that we are able to meet new people, people who had suffered through this and people who supports and help people out. Overall, this walk has taught me a lot in getting more aware of this situation and meeting new people.-Nicole Lew, member
