Why We Should Exercise More?

It’s the miracle cure we’ve all been waiting for!

Exercise has many benefits, as it can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cancer by up to 50% and lower your risk of early death by up to 30%. Exercise is the miracle cure we've always had, but for too long we've neglected to take our recommended dose. Our health is now suffering as a consequence. Whatever your age, there's strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life. Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Given the overwhelming evidence, it seems obvious that we should all be physically active. It's essential if you want to live a healthy and fulfilling life into old age. For women in particular, just by doing exercise can decrease our chances or getting breast cancer by up to 20%, therefore it is essential we get our daily dose of exercise. To stay healthy, adults should try to be active every day and aim to achieve at least 150 minutes of physical activity over a week through a variety of activities. For most people, the easiest way to get moving is to make activity part of everyday life, like walking or cycling. However, the more you do, the better, and taking part in activities such as sports and exercise will make you even healthier.

With all that being said, here are a few ways you can get started with some simple workouts

The ‘Ideal’

‘Photoshop Creates an Unattainable Image of Beauty'

The ways in which a person's appearance can be changed through Photoshop are endless, from lengthening neck and legs to cutting out ribcages, raising cheekbones, filling in hair and changing skin colour. Body image concerns are common among young women and can have serious negative consequences. Most young women use social media daily, and research suggests that viewing idealised appearance-focused content is associated with poorer body image. That is, following accounts like influencers and friends who post glamorous bikini shots, is associated with women being more preoccupied with their appearance and less satisfied with their own bodies. As a result, women may engage in unhealthy dieting or exercise strategies to try and achieve “the ideal” they see in their social media feeds. Therefore, we need to normalise all different shapes and sizes of body to stop women from feeling ashamed or embarrassed. Recently, I discovered a new trend on Instagram called “Body Positivity” (or BoPo).

"The entire fashion industry is ethically highly problematic," renowned German media scholar Thomas Knieper told DW. "By stretching the legs of stars, shrinking their waists and removing their wrinkles and skin blemishes, people admire them even more and try to emulate them." Studies show that people who are often exposed to such heavily edited fashion pictures believe that what they see is the norm, which makes it more likely for them to suffer from eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia, according to the media scholar. Campaigns Against Retouching In order to advocate for change and prevent other girls from going through similar experiences, 30 year old Erin Treloar launched the petition #LessIsMore. The motherto-be hopes the signatures she collects will help pressure magazines and mainstream media to reduce the amount of Photoshop they use.

In an interview she said "I know that photo retouching is They aim to challenge narrow beauty ideals and en- not going to go away completely and I don't think it needs courage acceptance and appreciation of bodies of all to," Treloar said. "But what I want to see is that magazines shapes, sizes and appearances. stop retouching the body and faces of the women and A recent content analysis of body positive content on men they feature. Fine, if there is a stray hair on the clothInstagram shows that these posts do indeed depict a ing that they're shooting, remove that, or if somebody has broad range of body sizes and appearances. Content a massive zit in the middle of their forehead, deal with that. But stop whittling down waists and adding thigh includes: selfies of women proudly displaying their belly rolls gaps." and cellulite before and after photos of “real” vs “edited” bodies, encouraging awareness of the common use of Photoshop on Instagram self-compassion quotes images focusing on body functionality (what the body can do rather than what it looks like).

Let’s talk about mental health! Is coronavirus affecting you mental health? Thoughts of suicide, depression and anxiety are continuing to rise significantly in men and women, especially scince lockdown had hit. The mental health foundation reported over a third of people in full-time work surveyed, were concerned about losing their job and people who were unemployed were widespread and severe.

YOU are NOT alone!

Get Some Sleep We know, this sounds cliche but it is so important. If you ever find yourself clouding your mind with pessimistic thoughts and selfdoubt ask yourself, have I slept enough today? The average adult needs around 8 hours of sleep a night. If the answer is no, close your laptop, flight mode your phone and have a nap, you deserve it.

Listen to music, go to the gym/for a run, meditate, read, write, draw, visit an art gallery/museum, make a list of things you are grateful for, dance, watch your favourite film/series, go people watching ect.

Speak to Friends and Family Bad mental health can sometimes lead people to distance themselves from others, not wanting to place their burdens onto other people. This only further stimulates the growth of this grey cloud. You don’t have to discuss with them how your feeling if your not comfortable, just hearing someone else tell you about their day can take the pressure off of your mind. Let your hair down with loved ones who, as much as you think won’t understand, turn out to be the most supportive.

Manage stress Stress is often unavoidable, but knowing what triggers your stress and knowing how to cope is key in maintaining good mental health. Try to manage your responsibilities and worries by making a list or a schedule of when you can resolve each issue. Often if you break down your worries and stresses and write them down, you realise that they are manageable. Try to avoid burying your head in the sand, and tackle problems face on. If you find you are having trouble sleeping, or are waking up thinking about all of the things that are stressing you out, write them down and reassure yourself that you can deal with them in the morning.

Eat well Eating well isn’t just important for our bodies, but it’s also important for our minds. Certain mineral deficiencies, such as iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies, can give us a low mood. Try to eat a balanced diet. If you find you’re a particularly stressed or anxious person, you should try limiting or cutting out caffeine as this can make you feel jittery and anxious.

Do something you enjoy Try to make time for doing the fun things you enjoy. If you like going for a walk, painting or a specific TV show, try to set aside time to enjoy yourself. If we don’t spend any time doing things we enjoy, we can become irritable and unhappy.

Value yourself: Treat yourself with kindness and respect, and avoid self-criticism. Make time for your hobbies and favorite projects, or broaden your horizons. Do a daily crossword puzzle, plant a garden, take dance lessons, learn to play an instrument or become fluent in another language.

Its a TEAM effort!

Parenting for your newborn must be done together

Bringing home, a new born into the family can bring such joy and happiness to those around them, although it is all fun and games until you are going about your day from 3 hours of sleep after doing the night feed, or even dealing with a crying baby. It is such a challenge for just one individual to take care of a child by themselves, which is why having other people around to help can make such a difference. Whether this may be the grandparents of the child, aunts, uncles and even a family friend. The main carers, being the babies’ parents, will make it vital for those around them to manage to keep up to date on sleep and a given opportunity for them to relax. A plan will need to be made to fit into the life of all members of this ‘team,’ as well as good communication. A downfall of this strong communication could be; one parent may blame the other for a poor parenting choice in order to add one more piece of evidence that the partner is incompetent or wrong; and overtime this could build up and affect the well-being of the baby. The relationship between the parents should be their top priority, as it will make an overall effect on this ‘team.’ As the parents will be the biggest players in this team and must make the effect with the child, such as taking it in turns to tend to the tears which happen throughout the night. Both should be going to give the baby its feeds, as well as having to take it in turns to go out of an evening to take their mind off the new stress. As well as this, when all parents begin to go back to work the baby can be put in a nursery a few days a week, whilst the rest of the days a parent or grandparent may be scheduled to look after the baby. Although, the nursery will not become a major option until the baby is slightly older.

If the baby is suffering with a disability you can reach out to a parent-infant team. Specialised parent-infant relationship teams are multi-disciplinary teams with expertise in supporting and strengthening the important relationships between babies and their parents or carers. Teams work with babies and their primary caregivers, including parents, foster carers, grandparents or others who may be playing this role. In our work, when we refer to parents, it is shorthand for this wider group. As a result of Mental Health Awareness Week, Parliament has added many services for parent-infant relationships locally, across the UK. From this it will provide advice, support and supervision for all who need it. As well as this they offer therapeutic for families who are in need of aid from a qualified specialist. These teams are seen as rare as a result of there being only 27 teams within the entirity of the UK. As it has been brought to the attention of the NHS as a result of the amout of mental health teens to young adults are suffering from.

EMBARRASSING

celeb confessions! Robert Downey Jr. is now the Hulk?

In a conscientious interview with Britain’s Channel 4 reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy to promote Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr. quickly found himself ambushed with questions about his past struggles with drug abuse. It didn’t go well. With a simple “bye,” Downey got up and walked out. The man who launched Marvel’s billion-dollar franchise appeared on Howard Stern in 2015 to give his unfiltered thoughts on the ordeal, and boy, did he. “I’m one of the guys who is always assuming the social, kind of decorum is in play, and that we’re promoting a superhero movie — a lot of kids are going to see it — and this has nothing to do with your creepy, dark agenda. I just realized, too, that I’m a 50-year-old guy, I use fancy words on The Howard Stern Show, and yet I’m completely unevolved when it comes down to simple boundaries. Like, you know what? You’re weirding me out. You are a bottom-feeding muckraker.” “What I have to do in the future is just have to give myself permission to say, ‘that is more than likely a syphilitic parasite, and I need to distance myself from this clown,’” Downey said. “Otherwise, I’m probably gonna put hands on somebody, and then there’s a real story.”

Kristen Bell meets anal worms!

With all of Kristen Bell’s interviews, you will begin to realise in whichshe has a tendancy of oversharing. She once appeared on The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale and did this exact thing. “I did have anal worms two weeks ago, I swear to god. They’re called pinworms,” The star dropped the bombshell casually, leaving a shocked audience in its place. She could have spared the details, but she came to deliver the full details of her experience. It was very fittin for the saying, ‘go big or go home.’ According to Bell, her road to an itchy bum started when she asked teachers at her daughters’ preschool why all the carpeting had recently been removed. The answer was a pinworms breakout. Bell then immediately went home, hopped on Google, and discovered they were “so, so contagious ... Of course, my 3-year-old was (scratching) for like a week. And then you have to monitor it and you have to look in their poop and when you wipe their butt. Sure enough, I wiped ... saw a little white worm.”

The cure to a broken heart The first time someone will go through a breakup from their first real relationship tends to be the worst. You feel like your life is over and you will never be able to recover from such trauma. Although, as hard as it may seem to realise it does and most definitely gets better with time. Before you know it a few months down the line you infact could be heading in a direction of another relationship. Our brain does silly things to us sometimes, especially when it comes to finding a new normal outside a relationship. For instance, a song may play on the radio which may trigger an old memory from you and your ex. Although you will get through this. Going out and spending time with your family and friends is always the best way to go, this way you are going out and socialising with others snd it turns out to be a good distraction. Over time the thought of your ex will completely slip your mind. On the recovery to new single life postbreakup, there are things you must try to avoid. Social media is a big thing to avoid, as his name or even face may pop up on your feed. It make be recommended that you mute or block his profiles.

In an interview with; Karol Ward, psychotherapist, she was asked, “how long does it take for a person to let go of a brokenb relationship?” She answered, “It is certainly individual, but in my experience, it takes about six months for the first feelings of being okay to start happening. When you feel more energy and are more optimistic about your life, you can take heart that you have gone through some healing and have moved on. Keep paying attention to your perspective on romance and relationships. If you still feel angry, bitter or distrustful, you are not ready. If you are open, friendly and at peace about your former relationship, you are ready for something new” Ward was also asked on tips of how to get over this relationship and she has suggested; Try not to judge any feelings that you feel. Even if all your friends are glad the relationship is over, you can still miss your ex. Do things only if you feel like it. Don’t rush out and go on dates just because others feel you should. If you want to remind yourself that you are a smart, attractive and certainly a datable person, then date. If not, get to know yourself again as an independent person. Be aware that you are more vulnerable than you realize. Watch out for rebound romances and unhealthy behaviors such as excess drinking or binge eating
