Hello and welcome to the very first edition of S41 Local Magazine in 2025!

2024 was a fantastic year for us. Bekah started an exciting new role with Weston Park Cancer Charity, an incredible organisation that provided outstanding care and support to my Uncle Phil and my mum before their passing a few years ago. Uncle Phil, who was deeply committed to fundraising for Weston Park, was such an inspiration that his name now graces the back of a bus! He truly was a selfless and remarkable man.

Evangeline has embraced the rollercoaster of being a teenager and has returned to her pleasant and happy self (well... most of the time...). Meanwhile, Florie is thriving at school and has blossomed into quite the comedian. Unfortunately, she seems to think every moment is the perfect time for a joke - which is less than ideal when you’re trying to get her out of the house on time for school!

2024 was a happy year for me, filled with wonderful memories made with the kids. The highlight was having everyone I love gathered around the table for Christmas dinner - It was a moment of pure happiness. I couldn’t feel more blessed or grateful for the life I have!

The ‘We Shop Chesterfield Awards’ was held at Board & Bean and celebrated several notable winners, including Board & Bean itself and Eclectic Delights of Serendipity. Both incredibly deserved their awards, and I had a fantastic time at the event!

Josh Bramley is back with a fantastic front cover image that I’m sure everyone will instantly recognise! Whoever keeps putting that cone back on has turned it into a true cultural icon!

There are several giveaways in this edition including the ‘Made in Chesterfield’ book and CDs. You’ve got to be in it to win it...

Have a great start to the year and I will see you in March.

Peace, love and positivity

Simon, Bekah, Evangeline and Florie

The Shop In Chesterfield Awards are the brainchild of Simon (Cheese Factor), Ed (Brockwell Books), Laura Jo (Adorn Jewellery)and Lisa (Shop Indie). Ed says “we realised that we have a great range of independent shops and a strong set of outdoor market traders and we wanted to celebrate that.”

Looking to the future Laura Jo said “Huge congratulations to all of those nominated and the winners - there are so many deserving businesses that we want to recognise and highlight. So come to town, shop local and enjoy the positive indie shopping experience that is on offer.”

Category winners are below and those nominated opposite.

Market Trader of the Year

Geoff's Pet Stall: Geoff has been on the open air market for over 40 years - a one man band he is dour by instinct and loveable at heart. He has an astonishingly loyal customer base and provides for all pets; dogs, cats, budgies, guinea pigs and much more besides.

Excellence in Customer Service

Vintage Tea Rooms: A cafe with a wide and varied client base with people coming and going constantly. The team always have a smile, are helpful and provide tip top customer service. Since the move from the coach station to Vicar Lane the standards of service have continued and improved. Genuinely impressive.

Nominees: Market Hall Trader

Charles Hedley: One of the largest retailers in the Market Hall, they bring people into Chesterfield from the wider North Derbyshire towns and villages for high quality clothes, hats, jackets, scarves, boots and other smart tweed and knitwear as befits the town’s role as a market town in rural Derbyshire.

Nominees: Market Trader

Ibbotsons: This fruit and veg stall is very much at the heart of what Chesterfield is - the hardiness and all weather nature of their staff is impressive - whatever is thrown at them - Covid, snow, market redevelopment and more, they adapt, cope and continue to serve the town.

Maurice Thorpe: Maurice is very much a main-stay of the Thursday flea market and has clocked up 38 years of service - he sells fine china, glassware, mirrors, and much much more. He never misses a market, has just turned 80 and sets up every Thursday at 5am. He is the epitome of the very best of the Thursday Flea Market - a true gentleman.

Jackie Youle: Selling the gothic, quirky and unusual, Jackie is a regular on Thursday and Saturday and also serves on the Market Consultative Committee. Outspoken, forthright and with a sharp sense of humour she adds immeasurably to the market and holds respect as someone who understands what the market means to the people of Chesterfield.

Nominees: Excellence in Customer Service

Fred’s Haberdashers: The team in Fred’s could not be more helpful: young, charming, nothing is too much trouble, no enquiry too obscure. They are especially welcoming of those who are experienced and new to the world of needlework and craft.

Pinder’s Mobile

Phones: Without any fuss Pinder’s team effortlessly advise, diagnose and assist - great value, always with a smile and high quality genuine advice and support. This has led to a strong base of repeat customers knowing they will always get the assistance they need.

Steph’s Sustainable Stuff: The transition from market stall to shop has worked well to broaden the base of sustainable domestic and kitchen goods to a wider audience - all with a smile and with supportive advice and guidance on making the change towards a plastic free environment.

Josh Bramley

I first met Josh Bramley in 2023 when he created the artwork shown on the opposite page for the Christmas cover 2024, I said then that his work is outstanding, and a year on he’s back with a cheeky take on a popular Chesterfield landmark that many of you will recognise!

Josh works in the Military of Defence Training School in Shrewsbury, teaching Royal Navy trainees to fly helicopters. Commuting home to his family in Hasland at the weekend.

He's provided an update on life during 2024.

“The art I have enjoyed creating the most this year has been my Chesterfield pieces; I am planning to create a series of pieces, all celebrating my great hometown in my own unique way and style. With the 'Chesterfield's Crooked Cone' (cover and pictured on this page), I love how many people have connected with it, only if you're from Chesterfield will you know exactly what it is and where, and I love that. I'm hoping to do further pieces this year which have the same effect.

“I had many plans for 2024, I wanted to push my work out into the local area and further into Derbyshire, but I underestimated how much time I'd have available for my artwork, given a full-time career working away and a new baby. This year, I hope to be able to manage my time more effectively, still prioritising my family, but pushing my artwork further afield with art shows and exhibitions.

“I've always wanted to give back to the community that has given me so much support. This year, I've offered commissioned artwork to fund-raisers and charity auctions. Again, the response has been amazing and together we've been able to raise money for fantastic local charities and groups such as Ashgate Hospice and small community sports groups.

“I suppose the biggest change has been the addition of my daughter, Delilah Rose, born in February, she's just 10 months old, and I can already see she's going to have a real character and big personality. Hopefully, I can start her off drawing early to share my passion.”

Josh’s work is created by working from photos and usually includes people and animals, he’s created pieces that merge children and grandparents, to produce images that never existed. He admits that people’s response to the finished pieces are often very emotional.

He’s always happy to discuss these larger commissions but you’ll have to work with him as they can be time consuming, as he fits them around his time at the weekends.

I’d like to thank Josh for his cover art again, I love the way he’s spots the quirkier elements that make up our home town.

If you fancy a copy of our cover art for your wall, Josh has a run of limited edition prints for sale, A3 for £30 and A2 for £40, only 30 available for each size. If interested, please email below and he's open to offers for the original art work contact him via email for details.

Thanks Josh and Happy New Year.

A neighbourhood wine and cocktail bar offering a grown-up sophisticated place to relax with great service, a laid-back vibe and tasty sharing boards. Elder replaces the old Bottle & Thyme bar and sits opposite the new Bottle & Thyme venue… are you keeping up? Same owners Gavin and Hannah Grainger; new home.

Elder is a new place to enjoy some fine wines, cocktails and craft ales and they do grilled cheese sandwiches during the day plus charcuterie boards, cheese, pickle boards, and cured meats in the evening.

It's been a long time since I first met Gav, serving drinks and coffees on Chatsworth Road, and today with wife Hannah they are the driving force behind three successful businesses. Whenever I meet, he’s ready with a friendly smile and handshake, today he looks tired. I ask if he's OK? “Yes, fine but knackered,” he replies. I suppose that’s what comes with having a family of five… that’s two young children and three businesses!

We’re sat in Bottle & Thyme, in its new location on the corner of Elder Way and Knifesmithgate, where the entrance to the old Co Op department store was, looking across at the old Bottle & Thyme, now Elder which, when we met was due to open in 2.5 days! I took a

quick look inside and reminded him that Friday was only two days away; it was a building site. “No worries,” he replied, “we’ll be open,” he said confidently, and it did open on Friday.

Elder features an extensive wine list, “Offering easy drinking accessible wines from £30, to premium drinking wines, it will give people the opportunity to sample some exclusive brands, something different, wines where the taste really shines,” says Gav.

“Our Amarone della Valpolicella wines are a great winter wine, robust reds made in the Veneto area, perfect for a cold winter's evening. Even our accessible wines are full bodied, not loaded with sugar, a pleasure to drink.”

If this sounds appealing, Elder is open from midday to late Wednesday to Sunday. The venue is small and intimate, perhaps something that customers have been missing with the move of Bottle & Thyme over the road. Walk-ins and bookings are welcome throughout the week and the Wine Room can also be booked for private hire and events.

Bottle & Thyme have been at Elder Way now for eight years and in their new home since August 2024, the much larger premises has The Glass Room for private hire for weddings and events.

“Bottle & Thyme has been busy since day one of the move. A customer recently commented that it has a big city feel, different to our old premises and hopefully I like to think it’s something that will bring other businesses to the town centre.

“The new extended bar makes life easier, and the increased space just creates a totally different feel to Bottle & Thyme,” says Gav. “We still have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and it’s great to see the place full of so many regulars throughout the week and especially at the weekend.”

'A customer recently commented that it has a big city feel, different to our old premises'

When I arrived Gav and the team were sitting discussing the Christmas feasting menu, and by the time you read this there will be a Valentine’s menu on offer. They are constantly updating things so be sure to follow them on socials to stay informed of changes and upcoming events.

I mentioned three businesses at the start, Gavin also runs OTI Interiors, specialising in high quality cabinetwork, kitchens, wardrobes, alcove units and bespoke projects. Quite handy for fitting out hospitality venues!

Elder is a great new addition to Chesterfield, a place to meet friends, sit, chat, drink, eat and relax together. Then on the other side of the road, there’s Bottle & Thyme, a larger, brighter space, a bit more ‘city life’.

Two family run, independent restaurants, and bars in the heart of Chesterfield, serving a local, organic, seasonal menu from breakfast through to evening meals, perfect to gather before a night out, or equally at home during a shopping or sight-seeing trip.

Get your glad rags on and go pay them a visit.

100 YEARS OF CHESTERFIELD MUSIC

Made in Chesterfield

Words and images: Aaron Brown and David McPhie

The ‘Made in Chesterfield’ Music Collection (the town’s legacy of recorded music, featuring participants of all genres and eras)…

In 2021 we had an idea about compiling a collection of recorded music featuring groups and solo artists from the Chesterfield area. This would, ideally, encompass up to nine decades of Chesterfield music. We embarked upon contacting every musician we knew from our own respective eras of musical involvement, from the early 1960s to the present day.

With the additional help of The Derbyshire Times early in January 2022, we were flooded with submissions… We eventually compiled a collection of over 200 recordings, and this is the first release of the first forty groups, bands and solo artists, consisting of a 36 page booklet of information with two accompanying CDs, including music by The Thompson Twins, Shape of the Rain, The Dazy Age, Hannah James, Mybe, trumpeter AL Needham, Harry Torrani (the yodelling Cowboy!), Chesterfield Parish Church (Crooked Spire) Choir, and many more!

We will continue to release further music on future CDs, and possibly (if funds are available) flash drive and vinyl too.

The compilation is available digitally on Bandcamp at: s40time.bandcamp.com

We hosted a launch/listening party at the Real Time Music venue in Chesterfield on the afternoon of Sunday December 8th with some low key ‘live’ music, and interviews with present and future participants and received words and thanks and praise for our efforts.

I started S40time, a Community Interest Company, YouTube Channel and Podcast celebrating the Music, Arts and Culture of Chesterfield, Derbyshire and The Peak District. The pilot episode featured me (Aaron Brown) interviewing David McPhie about his involvement with Joe Cocker in the 1960s and recording the demo at his house in Chesterfield which shot Joe to stardom in 1967. As well as bringing household names like Pink Floyd, Little Richard, Free, Fleetwood Mac and Jethro Tull to Town in the 1960s, he also ran legendary record shop Some Kinda Mushroom and was the drummer in The Blueberries - Chesterfield’s first band to get a record deal.

David and I have now joined forces and conduct regular interviews with the Town’s “movers and shakers”, with the Facebook group now attracting over 2000 members with regular contributors, providing a platform for aspiring artists to display their respective skills.

It’s been a real labour of love - after initially being overwhelmed by the submissions, we realised that if we released it all together, it would comprise of something like 15 CD’swhich was unrealistic!

Instead, we’ll now be releasing volumes one at a time, with an eclectic range of genres reflecting the Town’s considerable talents showing up on this first volume.

“Getting a running order that flowed was a major challenge too, but we’ve now got something that we hope the Town can be proud of, and which will go on to inspire future generations of musicians. It’s our belief that this project will secure the legacy of the Town’s musical history, from the early days of the 1930s Dance Bands, through the Rock ’n’ Roll of the 1950s, and the first emergence of the Rock/Rhythm and Blues groups in the 60s, Punk and New Wave in the late 70s, and the development of Electronica in the 80s and 90s, to the diverse strands of more modern genres to emerge since the turn of the century. In addition to the contributions of the folk, jazz and country music that have always been on the radar of those interested in the more traditional forms of popular music that have flourished in the Town,” says David McPhie.

A Mixed Bag

Keeping the wheels spinning

Words: Paul Chapman

Images: MyhillCycling

I met Chris Myhill (pictured opposite) recently at a cycling event and, after a chat, realised I needed to sit down and find out a bit more about this interesting chap.

Many Brookfield students will know him as Mr Myhill, head of Computer Sciences at the school from 2021 to 2023. Chris (or do I call him ‘sir’?) left full time teaching in 2023 to establish his cycle-based businesses; offering maintenance, race promotion, running the myHill Cycling racing team and, from Spring 2025 guided, and accompanied rides in the Peak District.

It was through the myHill Cycling racing team that I contacted Chris; we needed membership of a Cycling Time Trials affiliated team to enter the local hill climb up to Riber Castle from Matlock. The world of competitive cycling is often difficult to navigate, and myHill Cycling offers support and guidance for people… it’s just a coincidence that someone called Myhill should set up a hill climbing team!

“I like to think a lot of my customers come to me through association,” explains Chris, “I’ve been part of the local cycling community for a good number of years and have made some wonderful friends and acquaintances through two wheels.

“People always prefer to buy from people they know, perhaps investing more in the person involved than the business itself.”

Chris started cycling at 17 in Norfolk, quite a flat place given his love of hills. He started racing and realised he was quite good on the hills, coming to Sheffield as a student in 1985 he fell in love with the Peak District and all it has to offer.

Chris rode with Sheffield Polytechnic Velo Club, Chesterfield Coureurs and Peak Road Club, and helped promote events for local clubs. In 2019 he set up a Sportif (a paid event for people to ride, not a race but a challenge for people to enjoy), this was the first stage of him

setting up the myHill Cycling racing team. “The racing team was a passion project, I always wanted to get into guided rides but in the early days it was more about the events,” says Chris.

“myHill Cycling racing team allows people to find others with the same interest and get together, it means they have more chance of staying involved. Hill climbing is a good way into cycle sports, it’s supportive, often on closed roads and you can compete on a bike that doesn’t need to cost the earth, so is nicely inclusive.

“I really want to get the team to a point where there is a strong team spirit and people start building from each other.”

Post COVID Chris put together a business plan and decided to switch to supply teaching, giving him the time to devote to his new business but still having a partial income. It was when his father sadly passed away that Chris switched plans, today if you ask Chris what he does, he’s a business owner and teacher, in that order. He helps promote local events and has a couple of events each year that he hosts. The

Chris competing for Team myHill Cycling at Macclesfield Gravel Hill Climb 2024.

guided rides are still in the planning stage, launch is set for 2025 and with the maintenance business he has a quiver of businesses that all keep him busy, helped with a few days’ supply teaching as and when the calls come in.

“All is good, but whilst I’m in the garage with the repairs I’m not riding, which is my passion so the guided rides will be starting in the spring,” says Chris.

The guiding business will involve Chris meeting customers at a pre-arranged location, leading a ride around the Peak District tailored to the group’s abilities, stopping for lunch, and then riding back. “I have a detailed knowledge of roads in the Peak District and love creating a route that involves quiet lanes and iconic locations, built for the people I’m riding with.

“My wife’s cousin planned a cycling trip to the Alps and to help get him in shape and comfortable with the climbing I used him as a test pilot for the first rides. It was a great experience, and his feedback was invaluable in shaping the future of the business.

“It’s important to build a package that is tailored to the individuals involved, takes people

on roads and lanes they are happy to ride, being aware of the local environment and cycling accordingly is important. I’ll also be recommending accommodation if required, perfect for a cyclists needs.”

I liked meeting up with Chris, the way he has put together a package of ways to make a living reflects the way many people approach work today, very different from deciding on a career at 16 and sticking with it until retirement.

If you’re in need of bike repairs, need a Peak District guide, or want to search out local two wheeled events, check out the sites below.

Chris is keen to help get people on bikes in whatever way he can so is a useful contact to have.

Finally, the Spring Classic Sportive Chris promotes in March is supported by Brampton Brewery who provide a beer for the riders! Uhm, that's got my interest!

New Year New Gym? Try Iron Foundry

Words & images: Simon Paterson

Iron Foundry Gym and Fitness is now open and ready to welcome the community! I had the pleasure of visiting this exciting new venture, launched by Simon and Florence Goodwin, a passionate local couple. They invited me to explore their gym and meet some of the amazing team members.

Simon and Florence’s journey is as inspiring as their new business. Lifelong friends turned partners; they’ve known each other since they were five years old! 2024 was a milestone year for the couple as they opened Iron Foundry Gym and Fitness in Whittington Moor and celebrated the arrival of their first child, Robin (and yes, I did get to meet him, and yes, he is adorable).

Simon is a fitness enthusiast with a wealth of experience, having trained with weights most of his adult life. His time serving in the forces as part of a special ops team has given him a laser-focused understanding of hitting goals, both in life and fitness.

“I’ve played a lot of sports from rugby and boxing to cricket, but my heart lies in the gym. I enjoyed training as a body builder for a while, but now I train for fitness and to feel good,” smiles Simon.

Florence, a former primary school teacher (for 8 years) decided to follow her passion for fitness by retraining as a personal trainer. Her dedication and purposeful approach shine through in everything she does, making her a fantastic motivator for gym members.

“Being a new mum, I’m passionate about helping fellow mums and mums-to-be in the area achieve their fitness goals,” says Florence

with a smile. “We go through so many hormonal and physical changes, and I’m loving being back on my own fitness journey. I’m also really excited for what 2025 has in store!”

Florence understands that one of the biggest challenges new mums face is finding the time to work out. That’s why, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 10am and 2pm, mums are welcome to bring their babies along to the gym.

“It’s all about making fitness accessible and stress-free,” she adds.

Walking into Iron Foundry Gym and Fitness, I was greeted with a warm smile and instantly impressed by how spacious and inviting it feels!

Spread across two floors, the gym boasts an impressive range of equipment, from treadmills, bikes and climbers to dumbbells, kettlebells, squat racks, and Smith machines. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, there’s something for everyone here.

The gym also offers an exciting variety of classes, including Spin, Irox, Kettlebells, Mum’s and Minis, and Glutes and Core, catering to a wide range of fitness interests and goals.

With the New Year upon us, I asked the team at Iron Foundry Gym and Fitness for their top three tips to help you crush your fitness goals in 2025. Here’s what they had to say:

1. Invest in a personal trainer (PT): “It’s a short-term investment for a long-term gain. A good PT will create a personalised program for you, helping you hit your goals so much quicker,” says Florence.

2. Set goals and stay consistent: “No matter

how tough your day has been, show up. Consistency is the key to seeing results,” advises Simon.

3. Be patient and find your rhythm: “Progress might feel slow at first, but stick with it. Eat well, stay focused, and find a routine that works for you,” adds Charlotte, Iron Foundry’s new gym assistant.

With anytime gym memberships starting at just £30, Iron Foundry Gym and Fitness offers fantastic value and the perfect place to kick-start your 2025 fitness journey. Why wait? Your goals are closer than you think!

The Power of the Badge

Words: Press Release

In 2020, Chesterfield FC was potentially in serious financial trouble. Covid was heavily impacting on attendance income, performance on the pitch before Covid was poor, and the owner had abandoned promotion hopes for the club and put it up for sale. The future looked bleak for one of the world’s oldest clubs, when the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, an organisation established in 2009 to improve the life and outlook of local people, stepped in to buy the club and its new stadium.

‘This book differs from conventional, written football club histories and is a welcome addition to the genre. Using extensive interviews with people at the centre of it, the narrative dissects Chesterfield FC’s recent history, both good and bad. It also examines the Community Trust’s central role in improving the local community and in saving and reinvigorating the club.’

Stuart Basson Author and football historian

‘I loved the feeling of reality of the life and issues within a professional football club. It’s a must-read for anyone associated with any club as owner, employee or fan.’

Danny Wilson Former Northern Ireland international who made 634 League appearances as a player and 1066 games as a manager

‘This is a fascinating book that highlights passion, commitment and value in people, history, local business and the wonderful work of individuals to help the local community.’

Keith Hackett Author and former FIFA and UEFA referee

‘This book gives a great description of life in a lower league club. It is written from the viewpoint of an ordinary fan in the crowd and is at once gripping, knowledgeable and very informative.’

Sam Hird Former Chesterfield FC professional and now Player Services Executive at the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association)

‘I read Bob’s book with great interest, particularly the struggles the academy faced during its six years out of the EFL. I came through the Chesterfield youth system and it was a great learning experience for me, leading as it did to top level football after the excitement of the 1997 FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.’

THE POWER OF THE BADGE

This unprecedented move inspired local man and Spireite, Bob Littlewood, to start researching the history of the relationship between the club and its community. The book’s title, The Power of the Badge, came organically from his interviews with Community Trust staff, an often-used phrase within the Trust’s employees. It describes how children excluded from school, people reluctant to access healthcare or those needing support with cancer or mental health issues are encouraged to get the help they require.

Kevin Davies Former player with six professional clubs.Capped by England at under 16, under 21 and senior levels. Now a TV soccer pundit

The book covers the last 45 years of life in Chesterfield, detailing the miners’ strike and job losses due to the demise of the local steel, engineering and manufacturing industries. It discusses the social effect of the associated loss of leisure and welfare activities, and the work the Community Trust is doing to redress the balance. The Trust provides a wide range of sporting, educational and community-based activities and integrates with NHS, education and social care services to improve health and wellbeing across the town and beyond. In 2023 the Community Trust won a Health Service Journal national award for its work helping excluded children regain confidence and continue their education, which was described as ‘unique and life-changing’.

The book has a chapter on walking football, invented by Chesterfield’s Chief Executive John Croot at the Community Trust in 2011 and now played by millions worldwide. It also includes a chapter on women’s football at the club, which

was effectively banned in the UK until the 1970s and is now popular at junior, professional and international levels. The book is an easy read and provides an interesting commentary on local life, not just for football fans.

The books are available from the club shop at the Whittington Moor stadium.

Explore History With The Museum On The Move

Words: CBC

The Chesterfield Museum team has been staging a range of roving exhibitions across the borough – and there are lots more events planned this year.

During February half term you’ll be able to take part in some traditional games at Poolsbrook Community Centre. From Medieval quoits to a Victorian mini theatre, there are plenty of handson activities for everyone to enjoy.

In March you can discover the ‘Extraordinary Women’ of Chesterfield in West Studios. This exhibition will include incredible stories of local women, and artworks created by students at Chesterfield College will explore ideas of feminine identity.

Step back in time to discover the Tudor period at an interactive exhibition that includes replica Tudor objects, mysterious Tudor items to identify and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. The exhibition will be hosted at Hasland Village Hall in April.

Together with Duckmanton Primary School the museum will be holding a Viking extravaganza with lots of fun activities including weaving, shield making and rune writing, plus there might even be some invading special guests.

During the summer holidays you’ll be able to step back to Medieval Cestrefeld – with lots of fun activities and games. You might even be able to go shopping at a medieval market stall. This interactive exhibition will be held at Mary Swanwick School from late July until early August.

The Museum on the Move programme is being delivered by Chesterfield Borough Council thanks to funding provided by Arts Council England. It is helping residents connect with history and culture whilst Chesterfield Museum and the Pomegranate Theatre are closed for a major renovation project.

Chesterfield Ladies FC Goals Galore!

Words & Images: Michael South

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all! Well that's Christmas over. The tree is back in the loft. The mince pies are all gone, and I can't even remember where all the Baileys went! Anyway, let's get back on track with the footy and chart Chesterfield Ladies path on winning this league.

First up to report on was the Ladies 2-1 win against Stamford AFC. A strong display by the blues who continued their unbeaten league campaign with the help of new signing Olivia Walker (28), who made her debut between the sticks as regular keeper Stokes remains out following her injury the other month. Previously at Everton, Worksop and Doncaster Belles before joining the Blues, Olivia was signed to help win this league and progress the club forward. Goals against Stamford came from the

boots of Abercrombie and Fowler. Prior to this game, the team had a few games in hand. The Blues at the final whistle, secured another 3 points on the board.

Next up came Nottingham Trent on the first of December. Following Romy Sheppard and Jordan Atkins goals which secured the 2-0 victory the blues moved back to the top of the East Midlands Women's Regional Football League.

14 days later came the County Cup quarter finals game against Long Eaton United. A hat trick for Sheppard and 2 from Fowler and a single goal from Barham ended with an epic 5-1 win sending them through to the semis which could result in being drawn against the Chesterfield Ladies U23 side or the Chesterfield side. Could it be an all blue final!?

Now if winning 5-1 was impressive, then the next game was even better. Sunday 22 December turned out to be a bitterly cold and extremely windy day. The windiest game I've ever been to with my camera. The blues hosted Basford Utd and won with a very convincing 7-1 game. The scorers in this one were; Jordan Atkin, Kelly Fidler, Imogen Fowler x2, Romy Sheppard, Millie Standen and substitute Georgia Williams all got on the scoreboard. It was goals galore at the Staveley Miners Welfare ground!

Unfortunately the first fixture of the new year was postponed. Freezing temperatures meant the home game against Rotherham was cancelled.

So now let's move to my five questions for the team, to get to know the squad a little better one member at a time. This month I asked the goal machine that is Imogen Fowler and here's what she said.

1.What was your first football match you went to and who took you? I honestly can’t remember but it was most likely a Derby County game with my dad.

2.What's your best memory playing/managing footy? I don’t really have one. I’ve been a part of lots of great teams and won some great things but I’m hoping this is the season where I get my best memory.

3. What's the best goal you've ever witnessed? In person, I would say Alessia Russo’s back heel goal in the 2022 euros, the atmosphere was so good.

4. Favourite film? That’s a tough one. I’m torn between Love Actually, 10 things I hate about you and Shrek 2. All quality!

5.Favourite band? I’d say The Smith’s with Madness being close second. But I do just love music from the 80’s.

Thank you Imogen for that. Next month, flick back to this page to see who's next to be asked my 5 questions.

At the time of writing Chesterfield Ladies sit top of the league with a game in hand, nearly half way through the season. Not bad is it? In fact the next game the Blues have is the massive 6 pointer against second placed Sheffield FC Women. Fingers crossed the Ladies remain unbeaten in this league come the 90th minute. I have no doubts on that one.

See you next month though to find out.

All the best Ladies for the coming fixtures!
