LITTORAL ZONES > Littoral zones are shallow slopes where freshwater species spawn, nest, and feed. These are required for a balanced ecosystem. > New zones with slope 1:5 - 1:10 should be created on southwest facing edges > Can be constructed or infilled on existing edges

INFRASTRUCTURAL CHANGES

REDUCE FAST TRAFFIC > Access is important but fast traffic should be reduced to encourage a better use of the east edge. > Proposal: Vester, Nørre, and Øster Søgade made into local/ residential traffic only streets > Proposal: lakeside parking on west side made into pedestrian/cycle acces only and repaved with permeable pavings

NEW PUBLIC/GREEN EDGES

EXPANSION OF PRIVATE/PUBLIC SPACES > When traffic has been reduced, there is potential for development of the space in front of the buildings on the east edge. The kind of space developed should reflect the scale of the building/function. > Large public and semi-public buildings (e.g., Copenhagen University city campus) can develop larger scale public spaces. > Residential and small scale commercial buildings can develop private gardens and public terraces.
