Done by: Shamma Abdulla Al Falasi ID: 200705489 Under the supervision of Dr. Mercedes Sheen

2011-2012

About the topic: I’ve chosen to do a survey about the satisfaction of ZU, Dubai Campus food services. The target audience are Emirati female students, who are studying in Zayed University, Dubai Campus. The idea of the survey is relevant for student who spend pretty long hours in the campus due to their heavy schedule. So that, those students are spending two meals time, which are breakfast and lunch, in the campus. This group of people can evaluate the food services more than others. I’ve chosen this topic because I can observe a really big difference in food services between this campus and the previous one, and even between recently and first years of being in this campus. So I thought about getting a high percentage of people satisfied, and less complains. I’ve build my survey starting with a question that request a demographic information, which is age. Then a question requesting the hours spent per week (approximately), and that leads to the following question that ask about kind of meals the students have in campus. After that, a question asking about if students can observe a wide difference in costs between all the restaurants available in campus. After those 4 questions, a satisfaction rating scale is provided, that asks for a satisfaction score for 6 different areas. The areas are, overall cleanness of the restaurants, quality of services, convenience of locations, friendliness of the staff, availability of various kinds of food, and cost. I’ve surveyed 10 different Emirati, female students of ZU, Dubai campus. I distributed some copies in the atrium, and some were sent by email to some of my classmates, who I know that they spend long hours in campus. The results were calculated using excel, and illustrated in graphs.

Survey’s Graphed Results

As shown in the graph, from the 10 students I’ve surveyed, 1 student was between 17-19 years old, 4 students were between 20-22, 3 were between 23-25, and 2 were between 26 and 29 years old. That means that there was a mix between new students, undergraduate ones.

In this graph, hours per week spent in campus are shown. From the 10 I’ve surveyed, just 2 of them spend about 7 to 10 hours a week, 1 spends 15 to 18 hours a week, and the rest, who were 7, spend more than 18 hours a week. Those ones are more likely to have their breakfast and lunch in campus due to the long hours they spend in.

This graph shows that 8 out of 10 students usually have their breakfast and lunch in campus. Two are mostly doing the same. This means that they are the right target audience that can be asked about the food services.

In this graph, it seems that they rarely observe a high difference in prices of different restaurants in campus. That’s because 6 out of 10 student answered as “not sure” if there is a really wide difference. Whereas, 3 said no, and one student said yes, there is.

The last one, is the most important graph, because it measures the satisfaction of the 10 students I’ve surveyed. When they were asked about their satisfaction on cleanness, 30% were very satisfied, and 70% were somewhat satisfied. In Quality of services, 20% were very satisfied, 70% were somewhat satisfied, and the remaining 10% were neutral. In convenience of locations, 10% were very satisfied, 30% were somewhat satisfied, and 40% were neutral. In judging the friendliness of the staff, 30% were very satisfied, 60% were somewhat satisfied, and 10% neutral. Whereas with the availability of various kinds of food, 10% were very satisfied, 40% for somewhat satisfied, and 50% for neutral. Finally, with the cost, the highest percentage was for Neutral, where 60% felt that costs are fairly convenient.

In conclusion, I can say that I’ve proofed my hypothesis, which was about finding that most students are being satisfied about the food services, because there has been a really major effort in building higher qualities of services by the University. Survey Sample:
