Dotted with simple paper planes and sailboats against vibrant washes and drips of color, Martynova’s whimsical watercolor paintings elicit the joys of adolescence. Inspired by her inner child, Martynova believes that these objects of her youth can transcend a time when they were used for play, to symbolize much more. She says, “If placed in the right environment, they are capable of conveying courage, resilience, and inner strength despite their obvious fragile infrastructure.”

Martynova was born in Kazakhstan, and now lives and works in London. After studying both art and law, Martynova committed herself fully to her art practice in 2015. She has sold her works to collectors all over the world in countries such as the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and Germany. Martynova has extensively exhibited her artworks throughout the UK, most recently at The Other Art Fair in London.

Swiss artist Michael Lentz’s abstracts are about experimentation. A practice in minimalism, his ‘Sgraffito’ series is characterized by a simplicity of form, fluid washes of black ink, and a play with texture and form. These works stem from an interest in calligraphy and typography and pull inspiration from the likes of Gerhard Richter, Pierre Soulages, and Richard Serra. He says, “I love the experimental aspects of abstract art,

His extreme close-ups of these powerful women, skillfully rendered in oil paint, are transformed on a monumental scale. Thomas offers a closer look at society in the internet age. He says, “It is a bit in the spirit of a blog, where I use iconic images like a snapshot of our century.”

Niki Hare finds beauty in chaos. Her paintings stem from her observations of the world around her, as she breaks down her experiences into a series of frames, maps, and diagrams. Niki plays with layers only to scrape them away, balancing neat typography with dripping paint, neon colors, and collage techniques. “Nothing is static. There is a sense of the temporary, imbalance, discomfort,” she says.

Niki lives and works in Gloucestershire, England and has exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions across Europe. She was a finalist for the 2014 Threadneedle Prize. Her work was selected from almost 1,000 entries for the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Self-Portraiture competition and was exhibited alongside paintings by some of Britain’s leading portrait artists at the Mall Galleries in London. “For me, the most important thing about a painting is the composition; without the balance, the rhythm, and the visual weights, my work can never be perfect,” says Spanish artist Carlos Martín. His serene landscapes also exhibit his interest in how humanity interacts with the natural world, beautifully translating into tiny figures amid a muted beach backdrop. His works are rendered minimally but call to mind the feeling of walking on an abandoned shore with a loved one or the thrill of jumping into a sea of blue.

Carlos is based in Zaragoza, Spain.
